Right, had tentative look at NCT and they have advertised the classes for September due date already!! How early are people booking this?

It seems ridiculous to book it before 12 weeks but the local one to me is only a couple of miles away in the next village (ideal location given we are rural) - nothing else nearby. So I would really like to make sure I get a place but feel extremely hesitant to book anything as seems tempting fate.

Does anyone know what they are like about refunds if you miscarry?

It's a 20 week course (eves) starting in June and £230.

Megan2018 · 28/01/2019 12:23

Sorry not 20 weeks! 20 hours!

TwittleBee · 28/01/2019 13:01

Megan I didnt book mine till quite a while after 12 weeks, I remember it came round really quickly. But then there are a lot of courses on offer around our area, although they do get fully booked. Maybe email and ask? They are really friendly. I am tempted to do another one but I know DH will say it is a waste of money to do it all again.

Welcome and congrats aj90x and yes totally normal to not really have any symptoms yet!

Welcome aj90x congrats and absolutely normal not to feel much. Might be just around the corner for you, or might not come at all.

I just had a packet of salt and vinegar crisps. Omg the most delicious thing I have eaten all month!

PastaSauceHoarder · 28/01/2019 13:37

I had three packets of ready salted crisps this morning. Now I never want to see them again in my life. 🤢

I'm really fancying some cold cooked chicken... Going to grab some on the way to work later.

Tefiti2 · 28/01/2019 13:42

Is anyone else really struggling to cook at the moment? The smells and the thought are really making it difficult, yuck! There’s only so many times my 5 year old can have oven food....😂

TwittleBee · 28/01/2019 13:45

Tefiti2 Yeah I am! Cannot look at red meat at all and can just about deal with chicken by cooking the fillets whole in the oven or slow cooker. I certainlycannot stomach standing over a hob atm!

boodles with you on salt & vinegar crisps, must go get some S&V pringles

PastaSauceHoarder enjoy your chicken!!

@TwittleBee

NCT woman emailed back and said they do full refund if pregnancy is miscarried, but can delay payment if use direct debit anyway. She says there are plenty of spaces now but they are often booked by 12 weeks, next nearest one is nearly an hour away so I think I'll probably book next week and then ignore it.

I think DH and I will really need it - the NHS class is a single Saturday and is in the city so an hour away - unlikely to meet anyone local via that and I think we need the support as we are both clueless. Will probably do that too but don't want to rely on it.

One of the downsides to living rurally I guess!

stroan · 28/01/2019 13:57

@tefiti2 I can just about handle staying in the kitchen long enough to make toast. Every smell makes me gag, even the clean dishes in the dishwasher.

If DH cooks something that smells strongly, I have to go upstairs for the night and burn candles.

TwittleBee · 28/01/2019 13:58

That is so brilliant they offer that refund Megan - certainly book it up. I am really close to my NCT group still (actually 3 of us were due same time for baby#2 but then I had to go and MC... urgh)! But yeah lessons are good too, really varied I found actually - a lot of people claim they only focus on hypnobirthing but our's didnt but then again I think that is because everyone in the class was keen on learning everything in detail (they will tailor the course for you). What DH and I appreciated the most though was the relationship advice post baby - we were given a really good lesson that focused on our to stay positive together and rationale despite lack of sleep and still enjoy time as a couple or on our own (they threw out the scary stat that 1 in 7 people split up post baby and actually 2 couples were very close to divorce with 1 couple still looking like that they might...)

thanks @PastaSaureHorder I don't have my MW yet, will see the consultant nurse on Wednesday, depending how today goes I will ask to see her sooner.

@Megan2018 - for me, NCT was brilliant, I moved to a rural area and didn't know anyone nearly due, my friends kids are all older. I see a small group every few weeks still and OH spends at least a day a week with another dad who is SAHD. Worht it for us even though at first it seemed crazy expensive and early to do.

aj90x · 28/01/2019 14:22

Thank you that makes me feel a lot more relaxed. I’m such a worrier! Should be just sitting back and enjoying feeling ok!

@boodles I did as well, I honestly can’t get enough of salt and vinegar crisps at the moment!

abi2790 · 28/01/2019 14:23

Hi everyone. Just had booking in appointment. Funnily enough my midwife is the same midwife that sat with me all night with dd when trying for a homebirth! She remembered me straight away! She also reassured me that I can try again for a homebirth if that's something I choose to do. I'm undecided yet but I think I'm better prepared this time. Dd was very big (I am very petite) and we think that she struggled to move down. If I was to try again this can happen again plus I'm at a higher risk of the placenta getting stuck again. Lots to think about and I'm really not sure of what to do. I have lots of time to think though.

Yippeeayeyeah · 28/01/2019 14:47

Hi everyone. I am currently 6w6d. This will be my second baby- I have a 22 mo DS.
I feel so different with this pregnancy as I am feeling constantly sick.

Karigan195 · 28/01/2019 14:59

Has anyone told their boss yet. Starting to have to take time off work for appts and wondering if I should. Got my first ultrasound tomorrow and terrified I’m going to be told it’s a mmc.

Megan2018 · 28/01/2019 15:00

Absolutely ravenous today, just binged a Subway. Been really good for last 3 weeks but really went for it. Steak and cheese (extra cheese), hash browns and 3 cookies. Didn’t touch the sides! What a fatty.

Megan2018 · 28/01/2019 15:04

I told mine at 5+2
We get on well though and I wanted the flexibility, she has taken the pressure off a bit and its making the time off easier.

I’ve only told her unofficially though, she’s not notified HR or done any paperwork eg risk assessments at my request. I can trust her to keep it quiet and if it goes wrong I know I can be off work no questions asked. It has been a huge relief as my job is quite stressful and I have not been “on it” as usual.

Lp6891 · 28/01/2019 16:11

Hello! Can I join? I am 5 + 3, due 27 September. Was thinking of booking a private scan at 8 weeks, how did you all choose where to go? Are all the clinics much the same?

MyBreadIsEggy · 28/01/2019 16:13

I’ve decided that’s it.
I’m going to die. This child is going to be the one that sucks the life out of me once and for all Confused
I’ve got two poorly toddlers at home, and I’m really struggling with nausea and vomiting today Sad Every time I stand up, I’ve got about 30 seconds between needing to sit back down or run to the toilet/sink/DS’s potty to puke 🤢

stroan · 28/01/2019 17:07

@mybreadiseggy every day feels like it will never end, doesn’t it? Hope the poorly toddlers are better soon.

Megan2018 · 28/01/2019 17:13

Just been for flu jab, hoping I don’t start feeling ill with that now! Shock

PastaSauceHoarder · 28/01/2019 17:23

Right serious question, how am I supposed to eat healthy good foods when all fruit and vegetables make me feel sick?! I've eaten terribly today, feeling really guilty...

What are all of you eating on a daily basis?

MyBreadIsEggy · 28/01/2019 17:25

PastaSauce don’t worry too much at this stage. As long as you’re taking your pregnancy vitamins, your diet doesn’t matter that much if you’re suffering with sickness!
Midwives told me in both previous pregnancies to just eat whatever you fancy or whatever you can keep down! For me that is crumpets and ready salted crisps!

stroan · 28/01/2019 17:35

@pastasaucehoarder yep, a doctor told me in my first pregnancy that the baby will take whatever it needs anyway so not to worry.

I’m mostly eating toast with primula cheese (🙈), crisps and jelly sweets. Not an ounce of nutritional value in sight.

PastaSauceHoarder · 28/01/2019 17:55

Thanks ladies - chips and gravy for tea it is! Grin

Honestly I don't remember food being such a battle in my first pregnancy, and I'm sure I was a lot sicker back then.
