Sorry, can't think of a more exciting title!

Such a chatty bunch that we're racking up the threads now. Can anyone share the link for the Google Docs spreadsheet? The one I tried didn't work.

Thanks!

@TwinkleDay we went the other week and there was no meat 😂 that was a fun wait...

TwinkleDay · 03/02/2019 17:11

@BirthdayKake oh really! I mean it's a buffet, that soely does one thing for goodness sake... I have a cheffing background too.. how can I go so wrong ?

BirthdayKake · 03/02/2019 17:16

God knows!

Yukka · 03/02/2019 18:12

First time mums, just found this deal . . .tempting to go for it but just going to look at compatible prams.

www.pramworld.co.uk/maxi-cosi-cabriofix-pearl-familyfix-base-bundle#.XFctxbgS81I

RooKangaroo · 03/02/2019 19:03

Hello all! Hope everyone's had a good week.

For those looking at prams for the first time, I really found that nothing compares to actually being in a shop and playing around with them.

I remember doing a bit of internet research and thinking some were prettier than others, or some features sounded good, but it all went out the window for me when we went to try them out. Some just don't push in a nice way (at least for me and DH), while others were tricky to collapse or seemed very flimsy.

I think ours is the M&P Flip XT, or something like that. I have no idea if it's the best we could get, but it's been absolutely fine and reliable, and I've liked it.

@Yukka just think about whether you want extended rear facing for car seats (it's recommended up until 4 years) as that pearl isn't rear facing. They do do a 2 way pearl but that's not in the bundle

pusscous · 03/02/2019 19:26

For car seats, I would advice you to check the new regulations coming in, baby brain has forgotten the name. But basically a number of highly rated seats won't be meet the standard and that is why there is discounts on them. We found this out as we have an insurance claim for our dds baby car seat that was damaged in a house flood, it covers like for like, but the seat though good won't meet the new regs.

pusscous · 03/02/2019 19:39

Basically from sometime in 2018 I-size was meant to become the regulation for baby and toddler seats, R129, replacing R44. Car seats have a stamp/ sticker indicting which law they comply with for your info. This change might have been lost, forgotten or not publicised in the wake of the Brexit chaos. It's up to you as a parent to decide which you get, I just think for longevity it will best to get a R129 new reg seat as it could do a second child, and they have better safety features as well.

Yukka · 03/02/2019 19:49

@Squ1ggle thank you - I missed that bit. god there's so many bloody things to tick of the checklist.

All my sisters have had maxi cosi, icandy, phil and teds type combinations so I'm quite familiar with those but the silver cross and Uppebaby ones look good too.

Chatting to DH over dinner - no matter how we go about this, we just need to accept the cost and not be worried buy it. Most of these things are a 3-4 year usage and not things we'll throw away in 6 months.

ReginaPhalange89 · 03/02/2019 21:06

Thanks for all the well wishes.
Sorry to be a Debbie downer but I'm really struggling to stay positive. I'm trying to look on the positive numbers side that there's a 97% chance everything is fine but I just have this horrible gut feeling that it's going to be bad news 😭 I wonder if everyone with high risk results feels like this. I can't bare this wait for another 10 days or so to get results.

My excitement has completely gone. I can't bring myself to look at baby stuff or think about names . I've barely slept because I wake in the night and it's all I can think about .

Sorry for the ramble. I know there's nothing anyone can do or say, I just have to wait it out.

I might go quiet on here for the next week or so, I just can't focus on anything . Hope you all keep well and I will check in when I can 💕

Giraffe888 · 03/02/2019 21:15

It’s completely understandable that you feel as you do @reginaphalange89 we’re all thinking of you though xxx

Giraffe888 · 03/02/2019 21:17

There’s a lot of people saying they’re not buying anything until after 20wk scan. Am I being naive in thinking everything is ok? I know 20wk scan checks everything, is that why people wait? In case something is wrong? X

BeckyButterfly · 03/02/2019 21:28

@ReginaPhalange89 I would feel exactly the same. Sending love and I have my fingers crossed for you.

@Giraffe888 I constantly worry there’s something wrong because that’s the way I am 😂 I just know that they check for anomalies at the 20 week scan so I’m waiting till after that to know that we have a full bill of health.

HchyScott · 03/02/2019 21:39

@Giraffe888 yeah I think lots of people wait because problems can be picked up at the 20 weeks scan. We haven’t really brought anything other than bottles due to that reason. I think it’s our final bit of reassurance before we really go all out buying. Although I’m going to a baby show next Sunday 5 days before my scan so if there are bargains to be had I will probably go for it!!

Yukka · 03/02/2019 21:47

@giraffe888 I think it’s really up to you. I’ve had 3 consecutive miscarriages prior to this and then diagnosed with a condition that causes miscarriage (treated this time) so doing what I can to make this one feel real. I’ve felt stuck between letting baby stuff into the house or not. But I have got to the point that I’m enjoying the research online and getting my little plans together. We need carpet in the small bedroom so ordered that yesterday, I think everything else we’ll wait till after my birthday end of feb (40th) and I’ll be nearly 20 weeks then anyway.

Actually as sad as it is tonight we just chatted about what we would do if we bought stuff and lost this one, answer is sell it or store it. Emotionally I need to commit to this baby, we both do, and having some bits slowly arriving in the house will help.

I guess at 20 weeks most women feel fully reassured that’s everything is ok after the scan, whereas I won’t really have that until s/he is here x

wombatron · 03/02/2019 21:47

@ReginaPhalange89 I'm sorry to hear your news. Are you on the FB group? There's a ladies thread there who was similar with a high chance and people had some lovely supportive comments, all of which are valid and true. I hope you get whatever answers and support you need.

I don't really know how to interpret the results of these tests but my NHS and Harmony are completely different 🤷🏼‍♀️

wombatron · 03/02/2019 21:49

@Giraffe888 I have allowed myself 2 small purchases. Both of which would be keepsakes if something did go wrong. But I won't be buying anything until my 20week scan just in case. Annoyed as the excel baby show is 4 days before my scan and I'm sure there will be bargains galore!

ReginaPhalange89 · 03/02/2019 21:54

@wombatron yeah I am, that's probably my post on the FB group lol x

BeckyButterfly · 03/02/2019 21:55

@Yukka I’m the same as you, prior experience makes a big difference. I won’t stop worrying about miscarriage until the little one is in my arms.
I have been doing loads of research online too though and I have made a list of the things we will need so I am planning.

StargazyDrifter · 03/02/2019 23:15

ReginaPhalange89 perfectly understandable that you feel this way, please don't ever be sorry and come and rant on here as often or as rarely as you'd like. There is always someone about. Sending you hugs.xxxx

Giraffe I'm another one waiting until after the 20 week scan. Had three unsussessfil pregnancies last year so feeling a bit cautious. Wouldn't want big purchases around in case it wasn't to be again, but have bought a couple of little trinkets that can either be kept or given away. It's really helped doing lots of reading and research online though in terms of emotionally committing to the baby.

Hchy We're going to the Baby Show in London some time late Feb/early March. Are you going to one of those too?

pusscous thanks so much for the tip about car seat regulations, really, really helpful.

Today we've covered nursery essentials and prams, subject to actually going to a shop for a proper look. Next weekend it will be getting our head around cots. My mum had a sister who probably died of SIDL, a much wanted rainbow baby after a lot of heartbreak for my grandparents, was barely a week old. I know it's ancient history but that makes me a bit uneasy.

StargazyDrifter · 03/02/2019 23:57

*SIDS, my phone has a mind of its own sometimes!

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 04/02/2019 07:55

Anyone going to do NCT classes? Near me we have a few. I'm stuck between NCT and one called Mummas and beans. Really need to make our mind up.

@StargazyDrifter we're also going to the baby show. My mums quite excited to come and start getting bits.

@ReginaPhalange89 it's totally understandable that you feel the way you do. It's much better to talk about how you are feeling and get the support you need, instead of keeping it inside.

SnailorSwift · 04/02/2019 08:29

@ReginaPhalange89 thinking of you this week 💕 pop in when you feel up to it, we are here for you.

Is the Facebook group private or can I search for it?

@ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts have just started looking at classes too. I wasn't going to bother as did the hospital ones with DS but that was 7 years ago.

cravingmilkshake · 04/02/2019 08:33

What about cots for first baby? I've seen the ones in Ikea for around £90 are they good?

wombatron · 04/02/2019 08:34

@StargazyDrifter and @HchyScott I'm going to the baby show at the excel at start of March. It's meant to be good. I feel it's the only way my husband and I will most likely see all we need in one go without traipsing a million shops. I'm going to do some real research on what I would like to buy in terms of pram and car seat and the various costs - if the price beats that then I will be buying regardless of 20 weeks (morbid but depends on returns policy). I keep changing my mind on what I want so will be interesting to see it all laid out - if not perhaps a little overwhelming.
