Sorry, can't think of a more exciting title!

Such a chatty bunch that we're racking up the threads now. Can anyone share the link for the Google Docs spreadsheet? The one I tried didn't work.

Thanks!

That's good you've got a plan Regina, I really hope the harmony brings you reassuring news xx

Trying2bemum · 02/02/2019 16:20

Thanks Stargazy xx it sounds like the second trimester glow is here for you!

I've noticed more tummy pains the last couple of days - am sitting now and getting occasional shooting pains down the side of my bump. Hopefully all is okay but it's really unnerving.

We're with the in-laws this weekend. His dad and grandma have both been going for the bump! Feels very strange, not sure I'm a big fan of this..

StargazyDrifter · 03/02/2019 00:07

Regina glad you've got a plan, thinking of you and, as you say, still every chance of a good outcome.

Trying2bemum hmm I wouldn't be sure at all about the bump fiends either! I can imagine that's quite hard to navigate though. Hope it's a nice weekend with lots of lovely treats and attention for you.

DH and I went to a classical concert tonight, Christmas present tickets, and there was some unexpectedly intense and very loud piano in it. We were right at the front and I could have sworn I felt the baby fluttering around, probably wondering what all the noise was. I don't think they can hear well until 23 weeks but can start making things out from 16-18 weeks, according to Google anyway.

I've had a few vertical shooting pains too, best I can describe it as is if you had a pen resting on your tummy vertically and then sat up quickly without removing it. Feels kind of hard for a moment, then goes away. Definitely unnerving.

HchyScott · 03/02/2019 08:52

@AIDE2424 we really like the oyster 3 but just want to check out the mammas and papas one before we commit. Just wondering where you saw good deals for it?

TheScaredyKat · 03/02/2019 11:35

@ReginaPhalange89 I can't imagine what you're going through, still the biggest chance by far that all will be fine. We've all got everything crossed for you. x x x

We haven't seriously looked at Prams yet, will start looking after 20 week scan which is now only 5 days away!!

My lovely Mum has offered to buy it for us though which I'm unbelievably grateful for as things are a bit tight at the moment.

Went bra shopping yesterday as the girls have been getting seriously uncomfortable. Got measured and fitted in M&S, I've gone from a C cup to an E/F cup so no wonder I've been so bloody uncomfortable!!!

DianaBlythe · 03/02/2019 11:53

@ReginaPhalange89 - thinking of you as you navigate your way through things.

I have to say I hadn’t realised Wales was unusual in offering free NIPT for high risk women. So much variation area to area.

I had a bit of brown bleeding yesterday, just in my knickers and on wiping and stopped really quickly but gave me a bit of a fright. Been having a few nosebleeds last week and my teeth bled a bit on brushing last night and had some blood stained ear wax. So basically bleeding out of all my orifices but only in a very minimal way and feeling well in myself. Think I can feel movements now but still doubting myself! Spoke to the obstetric assessment unit and they were lovely and not too concerned but happy for me to call back. I think if I have any more bleeding from funny places I’ll ask if the GP will check my platelets next week. Going on holiday next weekend and don’t really want to explore the Spanish healthcare system...

StargazyDrifter · 03/02/2019 12:52

DianaBlythe I also have nosebleeds and bleeding gums, and cuts take longer to stop bleeding... but earwax?! I have put my symptoms down to taking aspirin daily. Do you take it, by any chance? I've also read on here that very light bleeds can be caused by the baby kicking the placenta and breaking some of the vessels. Your hols sound lovely! Probably worth getting an EHIC and/or insurance sorted out, if you haven't already.

SnailorSwift · 03/02/2019 13:51

I'm another one with nosebleeds @DianaBlythe and @StargazyDrifter. Have been having them daily for weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️ and cuts that won't stop bleeding for love nor money. I'm on aspirin and clexane though so that's why. Very conscious of not doing myself a proper injury as I would be in trouble! Aspirin alone can definitely have a similar effect @StargazyDrifter.

SnailorSwift · 03/02/2019 13:51

Didn't mean to hold everything 🤦🏼‍♀️

DianaBlythe · 03/02/2019 14:13

Aw thanks both. Not on any aspirin or LMWH but seems like it’s pretty common anyway.

Have taken out Ravenhall’s pregnancy travel insurance as we’re going to the US in March which is after the age of viability so didn’t want to take any chances and wanted insurance for baby as well as for me just in case.

Finding all this pram talk useful but a bit overwhelming! Maybe we’ll test drive a few after the scan. MIL and FIL have very generously said they’d buy it for us but I don’t know if they know how much a travel
system sets you back! I don’t think it was like this when we were little!

SnailorSwift · 03/02/2019 14:17

Yes think it can be @Diana my sister is a nurse and trainee midwife and says the increase in blood volume during pregnancy can cause nosebleeds etc.

StargazyDrifter · 03/02/2019 14:19

I agree, the pram talk is a little overwhelming and DH and I are a bit lost. He's reading up on them today and we have an appt at John Lewis in a couple of weeks to try some out. Wanted to go with a bit of prior knowledge though.

So far, I've been thinking of the following:

  • is it easy to push and fold (esp in London);
  • can it serve as a cot and upright seat;
  • can the seat face out and towards me (not sure if that's even important);
  • is it easy to remove covers to clean.

Not sure if they are even the right questions, but feels like a start.

Toria73 · 03/02/2019 14:42

@Regina. I’m in Scotland too & I ended up paying for the Harmony test as I was really underwhelmed by the way Forth Valley handled my nuchal test; they didn’t take blood samples because the midwife didn’t see the point as you’d not know which twin’s blood would be showing the markers. I used Ultrasound Direct & has the results back within the week. I think they have a few branches in Glasgow. 💕

StargazyDrifter · 03/02/2019 14:49

Toria hope evening is going smoothly with the twins. I was looking at some nursery room designs today (basically I have no idea what even goes in a nursery!) and thought of you when the twin room popped up.

cravingmilkshake · 03/02/2019 15:05

Has anyone got a list of names- we are struggling for boys. So glad to be finding out next week!

Mine so far are:

Girls- Matilda, iris, Isla or Eliza.

Boys- Arthur, Max(imillian) and Ralph. My favourite is Ralph but husband isn't too much of a fan!

Jxtina86 · 03/02/2019 15:20

@ReginaPhalange89 have got everything crossed for you - can't imagine what you're going through but hoping you get good news from the harmony test.

@cravingmilkshake snap on two of those babes! Maximillian is our number one boy name and Matilda is on the girls list.

Have had a few thoughts about prams - the Oyster Zero or 2 is looking good from what I've seen and read online so will be number one to test but like others waiting till after the 20 week scan before we go for an actual shopping trip. Have started buying a pack of nappies here and there - planning to get a few different brands to try out. I wanted to go down the reusable root but DH can't get his head around it 🙄 don't think he realises how bad it's going to get with the fortnightly bin collection...!!

Toria73 · 03/02/2019 15:29

@stargazey I’m good thanks. You sound so much more organised than me if you’re looking at nursery stuff. I’ve just been trying to find a new (well new to me car) that has a massive boot for a double buggy. I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to fit into my mini, sure I can put seat back but will never reach the pedals 😂

Toria73 · 03/02/2019 15:32

Ps I could be wrong but I think the only essentials for a nursery is a cot & a baby,

RoseBud2016 · 03/02/2019 16:08

Regina I hope the wait goes quickly for you and the harmony test comes back with nice low risk results. Such a worrying time. Flowers

Re pushchair talk:

We bought a Sola2 for our DD from M&P and it’s still going strong after 19 months of daily use and being thrown in and out of the car.

However, in hindsight I now wish we had bought a pushchair that converts into a double as now we are going to need to shell out on a whole new pushchair to cope with a newborn and a just turned 2 year old! So I’d recommend looking at pushchairs that have the option of converting into a double if you think you’ll have more children relatively soon after this one.

We have our hearts set on an Uppababy Vista as our new double pushchair. It’s very functional, has loads of different configurations and is very pretty.... the perfect combination for us.

DianaBlythe · 03/02/2019 16:12

@Toria73 I was kind of thinking of the cot as non essential as baby will be in with us for 6 months, thought maybe the cot would come later when I’ve figured out what they like!

But then I wasn’t sure if that was weird. So the nursery would have storage, a chair and some kind of change table/chest of drawers situation. Probably will get a cot...

FuzzyPixel · 03/02/2019 16:17

Hi all - sorry I've been quiet, it's been a busy week!

Sending good thoughts to you Regina - wishing a positive outcome for you.

We've been browsing for prams here too. We found a lovely local shop who said they're willing to price match, which was great. They're really friendly and have been in our local town for over 100 years. Lovely people.

We looked at a Silver Cross Wave, which initially was our favourite. Both our parents had Silver Cross prams, so it felt quite trustworthy as a brand, and the prams just felt impressive and like they're good quality. In hindsight, for us, the wave is probably a bit bulky and is a bit heavy when folded down. We have an Auris, and I think we'd struggle having much room in the boot with a Wave.

We liked the Egg. I can see us taking that on dog walks, and it being quite good on public transport when needed. Great small fold too. I loved that it had an adjustable seat riser. We're both quite tall, so this made a bit of a difference to us.

We also looked at M&Ps Ocarro, Oyster 3 and iCandy. We had a quick look at a Bugaboo, but my DH ruled it out quite quickly because he would push using the side of the handle (weird) and it didn't feel as good as the others for him.

We're still browsing. We would quite like to see a few others like the Uppababy Vista.

We looked at some nursery equipment too, I think we're going to find a three piece set we like from either Mamas and Papas or Silver Cross, and ask the little local store to price match.

Toria73 · 03/02/2019 16:18

@Diana you might be right, I was just thinking that without a cot or a baby it would just be a spare room rather than a nursery. 😉I’ve only got a 1 bed flat so I def need to move before the year is out but I’m planning on having them in one of those cribs with side down so they are level with my bed for the first wee while.

StargazyDrifter · 03/02/2019 16:33

Toria73 my DH refers to those as 'side car for the bed'! We are also thinking of getting that for a bit, so the nursery is likely to remain a spare room if we don't get our act together! Your earlier post did make me laugh.

The changing table thing seems quite key as I'm likely to have a c-section and bending is probably going to be harder.

I've fallen down a bit of an Internet rabbit hole today about what babies do and do not see/appreciate, like colours etc.

TwinkleDay · 03/02/2019 17:07

How to make a hungry pregnant lady angry... go to Toby carvery on lamb day- OH looking forward to lamb not me, didnt pre book -however to be told the wait for a table was two hours!!!

We never go on a Sunday but wat a disappointment! Ended up at a stone house in the end but was a good half hour away!
