Sorry, can't think of a more exciting title!

Such a chatty bunch that we're racking up the threads now. Can anyone share the link for the Google Docs spreadsheet? The one I tried didn't work.

Thanks!

Wow loving all the bump pics! You've all got
Such a lovely bumps - makes mine feel really inadequate as I haven't popped yet at 16+4! Will take a pic later when I'm back from the shops!

Going to have to google this nub theory thing too - only a few more weeks now till our scan and we find out what we're having!

BeckyButterfly · 26/01/2019 10:09

Going completely off topic here but does anyone else find it crazy how few places do maternity clothes and those that do seem to have very little available? I looked on the M&S website because I figured they would definitely do maternity clothes and they had one pair of leggings, one blouse, one dress and a few nursing bras...!

ReginaPhalange89 · 26/01/2019 10:15

@beckybutterfly yes ! Most maternity clothing is so boring as well. Plain or stripey seems to be the only option lol. I hate that no stores have them either it's all online now 🙈

I'm just going to live in leggings/jeans and t shirts for the next few months when the better weather comes around I'll likely be in stretchy maxi/midi dresses the whole summer !

FuzzyPixel · 26/01/2019 10:16

Yes BeckyButterfly - 15 weeks here, definitely bumpie but still no maternity clothes because I'm struggling to find something. DH is keen for me to shop which is unusual but I cannot seem to find the right thing!

ReginaPhalange89 · 26/01/2019 10:20

New look have 2 for £12 on some basic t shirts/long sleeve t shirts. I ordered some the other day and they seem ok.

Also ordered this from H&M , I had one similar last pregnancy and lived in it with leggings! It's so soft and comfy

Asos have a fairly good range. As do topshop.

StargazyDrifter · 26/01/2019 11:42

Morning!

BeckyButterfly I share your frustration about maternity clothes. I'm so new to this, and it would really help to see and try lots of things on. I'm not enjoying the online shopping so much. Will have to maybe get myself to some of the big flagship shores, rummage and take it from there. Then I should at least have an example of what works for shopping online.

TheScaredyCat sorry to hear about your PGP trouble. I'd be a bit annoyed if the physio just gave some friendly advice! Surely there's something abuut strengthening the core to help? I'm still waiting for my NHS referral. Have been a bit better lately so held off on going privately. But probably not for much longer.

I had my 16 week MW appointment yesterday, wasn't really that helpful. They didn't do the heartbeat, talked me through booking appointment blood results (which I've already had twice) and did a urine/BP check. I asked about cramps and was told they are a sign that 'someone inside isn't happy' and to either not stand or sit so long next time. I can't help but feeling this isn't quite the full picture! Told not to wear underwired bras whereas I think more recent advice is they are fine if well fitted. MW also said to drink Tropicana with my vitamins as it helps iron absorption. Not heard that before - is anyone else doing this? Basically I was left with the impression that they're not very interested in me until after the abnormality scan at 20 weeks 'then we really know it's a viable one' she said. I didn't like that but I'm a big touchy mess anyway at the moment. No help on cord donation - "just tell them at your birth", whereas I'm sure from online research you have to let them know in advance. All in all, a bit underwhelmed.

TheScaredyKat · 26/01/2019 11:54

Is anyone else really struggling to sleep on their side?
I asked the midwife about it on Thursday and she said it's ok to sleep on your back at this stage as bump is so small there isn't much weight there to weigh on the blood vessels and cause any harm but I'm still worried. I slept on my back last night though and actually slept properly for the first time in months! It's such a relief, I actually feel a bit human again today

Chinks123 · 26/01/2019 12:29

@StargazyDrifter your MW doesn’t sound friendly or helpful at all. Is this the one you’re going to have throughout the whole pregnancy?
I have no idea about the bra advice but I was told last time to drink fresh orange juice with vitamins and I am still doing it now. I can’t remember why exactly..but I’m definitely getting enough vitamin c!

Sorry she didn’t seem interested, especially when you’ve been looking forward to hearing a heartbeat it’s rubbish.

StargazyDrifter · 26/01/2019 12:38

Chinks thanks, that's kind. No, we never see the same MW twice in my Trust. It's a big London one. Good to know about the orange juice - do you have the freshly squeezed one then? I wouldn't normally class Tropicana as fresh! It's meant to help with the absorption of iron.

TheScaredyKat I woke up this morning in a panic because I was on my back! Reassuring to hear, and it was a very good sleep for once. DH said he'd never seen me jump out of bed so fast before. 😂

Chinks123 · 26/01/2019 12:49

Oh right @StargazyDrifter I’m up north and have the same one from booking right the way through. I have Tropicana with no bits but now you’ve said it I suppose thats not exactly fresh orange juice..it has a lot of sugar. It’s what they recommended though. I was on iron tablets last time, but they said my bloods were fine so far. I think as I go along I’ll end up back on them, or have to drink that awful liquid iron Sad

ememem84 · 26/01/2019 12:51

Yes vitamin c helps with iron absorption.

We have two stores here that sells maternity wear. Jojo maman Bebe. And new look. None have the things I want.

HchyScott · 26/01/2019 12:51

@StargazyDrifter I would be thoroughly pissed off if that was her attitude! Sounds like a very old fashioned approach to pregnancy, I’ve got a young midwife, probably my age, under 30 and I’ve not been told any of that just to keep on taking my vitamins and Not to worry about unproven link between continuing folic acid throughout pregnancy and tongue tie. Sorry you didn’t have a more positive experience, it shouldn’t be like that and such a shame you didn’t get to hear the heartbeat too.

AnnaBegins · 26/01/2019 13:37

Wow new thread again - sorry I haven't caught up, got an exam Monday and I'll catch up after that.

Thanks for the tag Roo, @KentishGal any brand of stretchy wrap is fine, my preference is one with 2 way stretch (rather than 1 way like a moby). Kangawrap are fine as a brand (though kanga is more usually a name for the traditional African back carrying cloth), but pretty much any brand is fine. I like hana as they are fairly light.
Sounds like a lovely thing for the hospital to suggest! They are really easy to tie, practice with a YouTube video (search stretchy wrap) and a teddy a few times. Promise baby won't fall out the bottom! It crosses behind their knees so they can't fall.

Kentishgal · 26/01/2019 13:55

Thanks v much annabegins I hadn't even thought about the one way v's two way stretch so definitely need to actually look at them! Yes good idea about a teddy...stupidly I was imagining I would need to practice on my 3 yr old - my brain has gone to mush.

Yes maternity clothes are a bit hit and miss. I ordered in bulk from asos and seraphine and returned what I didn't want - it still a faff. I want to check out mothercare and jojo but need to go into another town for those!

Stargazydrifter I would be so upset at her saying "viable" - cheeky cow needs to learn some interpersonal skills! Yes I knew to take iron with orange juice/vitamin c...but as you say - I wouldn't have thought Tropicana would have been thr first thought!

I'm really struggling with this bronchitis, which is getting worse not better despite the antibiotics, and terrible nasal congestion - which I know is the hormones but its driving me insane. I read apple cider vinegar is for congestion - and a saline nasal spray. Will give them a go. Been steaming. Any other suggestions much appreciated!!

OneMoreWish · 26/01/2019 14:42

I had a bleed last night- bright red blood at 15 weeks. It stopped this morning and I have been told I only have to go into epu if bleeding starts again

Scared the bee Jesus out of me. Mum here and I haven't lifted my one year old since bleeding started and have spent most of the time sitting with my feet up

BirthdayKake · 26/01/2019 14:50

@OneMoreWish I hope you're ok :( that sounds so scary. Definitely keep your feet up xx

Capybaras · 26/01/2019 15:21

So glad it's stopped now @OneMoreWish take it easy and look after yourself!

Kentishgal · 26/01/2019 15:22

onemorewish - that's frightening, hope you're ok, take it easy today. My friend had a heavy bleed around the same time and all was ok.

wombatron · 26/01/2019 16:28

@StargazyDrifter I'm London and they are trialling community led midwives and I already feel ours will be worlds apart. What trust are you? I'm in the East. My first meeting wasn't 'my midwife' but a stand in. And she wasn't the best but I think that's a clash of personalities and her being stressed

wombatron · 26/01/2019 17:41

One I hope things are ok. Rest up.

For those that were considering... I've had 90% girl from the Nuboligists

Giraffe888 · 26/01/2019 18:06

The nubologists couldn’t say for me which is as I thought x

StargazyDrifter · 26/01/2019 18:13

OneMoreWish sorry to hear about the bleed, hope everything settles down. Keep those feet up!xx

Chinks the iron liquid doesn't sound very appetising! Hope you don't have to get back on it.

Kentishgal poor you with the bronchitis and congestion. ☹️ Hope it clears soon. I've also been full of sniffles lately and have been thinking of how you'd got on the antibiotics. It's just rotten to have all that discomfort as well as pregnancy. Some others on earlier versions of this thread found saline nose spray really helpful. I haven't tried anything yet myself. Just sitting here feeling sorry for myself.

I've been so confused about this iron/orange juice thing today - if a multivitamin contains both iron and vitamin C, then surely they take care of one another? And I'm also very unsure about the sugar in Tropicana given I have risk factors for GD. Looking online, it seems that tea (even decaf) and dairy can also impede iron abortion, so not recommended to have those close to the vitamins. Seems like a bit of a rabbit hole. I'm just going to keep taking the multivitamins and not worry about it for now.

Had a nice day out seeing friends today. Feeling completely wiped out now. Zzzzz. And they said the second trimester is the honeymoon of pregnancy!

cravingmilkshake · 26/01/2019 18:13

Hi guys/ got my letter to say the risk is low for Downs and try, however, this was on the letter- has anyone had this before:

I've had friends monitored for small babies and had more scans. they were induced early, but I don't know if that's what they received. Will your midwife discuss with you?
