@TheScaredyKat I feel for you. I love older houses, and the characters they have, the space too, but the amount of problems they cause is unreal!

Trying2bemum · 29/12/2018 16:56

Fantastic news on the scan @StargazyDrifter , glad to hear the nausea is subsiding.

Glad to hear your gp was so helpful @wombatron. My best mate is an obstetrician and she took prescription anti sickness medicine in her first trimester - if that makes you feel any better about it. I know what you mean about being grateful when it's been so difficult to get pregnant - but equally pregnancy can be tough so don't feel guilty about feeling sorry for yourself right now xx

HchyScott · 29/12/2018 16:57

@TwinkleDay it’s crazy the cost of everything! Although we won’t need to worry as our plan is to win the lottery tonight then we will be sorted 😂

Michelle0507 · 29/12/2018 16:58

Too nervous to look at buying yet, Partners Mum has offered to take us pushchair shopping - I don't think she knows how expensive they are. I was a Nanny for many years so I've used various pushchairs, Mammas & Pappas Urbo was my favourite. I'm not into iCandy.
Excited to do the spare room up though.
A friend who's like my Mum (I lost my Mum in 2012) has been buying some clothes for the baby which made me even more nervous, gosh I'm like a broken record!!!!x

Trying2bemum · 29/12/2018 17:03

@StargazyDrifter I feel the same re baby stuff. I feel nowhere ready to even think about that stuff! I went into jojo yesterday to look at maternity wear in the sale and chickened out of buying anything. Think I need to get to my nhs scan and hopefully then will feel more reassured

@Michelle0507 I'm struggling with sleep a bit too - I wake at 5 ish and have to get up to wee and then just can't get back to sleep! I swear by the Headspace app for meditation but even that doesn't seem to get me back to sleep. Also a bit concerned re the cat - baby situation! Ours sleeps in our bed and is the apple of our eyes, spoilt rotten...

@Twistering I've had the odd bout of being ridiculously horny too! That seems to have subsided. I'd read that sleep orgasms are more common in pregnancy. I am a bit scared of orgasms right now which is probably really silly.

@Onestep2 Off the dick! Hahaha

ReginaPhalange89 · 29/12/2018 17:13

I've just ordered myself a maternity pillow so I guess that maybe counts as a baby purchase ! Only 9+5 but couldn't wait lol

I won't buy anything else though for a while yet. Which is a shame with all the sales on! I don't think I'll have to buy much this time though, dd2 will be 2 years 4 months so should be out of the buggy mostly , and we have a sling if not. We have an oyster 2 , there's a double version so I'm currently trying to find out if the seat units are compatible then I could maybe just buy a second hand chassis !
Probably rearrange the bedroom, we do have plenty , 4 bed, OH is reluctant to give up his game room/gym though lol

ReginaPhalange89 · 29/12/2018 17:16

I was also off the dick but we finally did it last night ! It was a long 7.5 weeks I'll tell you ! Haha

Michelle0507 · 29/12/2018 17:21

@Trying2beMum we treat our 3 like babies, it's very rare Pablo isn't in bed with us, I vowed to not even allow them upstairs! Ha, who was I kidding you try and stop them. I worry they'll feel pushed aside or will get less time because of the baby. None crazy cat owners I'm aware you'll be like WTF!?! Lol!

Just sneezed and oh my the pain in my left hand side near to my hip sure made my eyes water!

FuzzyPixel · 29/12/2018 17:29

Oh no, I'm with ooh @Michelle0507, except I have dogs not cats. The plan is to spend some time teaching them how to retrieve named items, help load the washing machine etc so they still get their daily training bits and they're included in the process. Dogs are important to me so I'm keen to make sure they feel integrated. Cats can be trained, but I'm not sure they appreciate it as much as dogs do. Grin

ReginaPhalange89 · 29/12/2018 17:33

My cats don't even acknowledge my wee one haha ! We don't allow them in bedrooms at night though, they're left in the living room/kitchen with the door closed . I can't bare them coming in to our room and jumping up on the bed , it annoys the life out of me lol

Jxtina86 · 29/12/2018 17:38

Another cat owner here- we have two. One is not bothered by anything, sleeps downstairs of his own accord. The other is another story. She cries if DH spends more than a minute in the bathroom and she can't get to him. She wakes me up at 4am every day for fuss. She's a diva to be honest lol. We're planning to start shutting her out of the bedroom from around 20 weeks so she gets used to being apart from us but I'm not looking forward to it! Ear plugs at the ready I think...

Trying2bemum · 29/12/2018 17:38

@Michelle0507 totally get you. My DH is worse than me - it'll probably end up with me in bed with baby and him in the spare room with the cat hahaha

@ReginaPhalange89 the jumping up is v annoying !

@FuzzyPixel wow if you can get them trained like that that would be amazing

Trying2bemum · 29/12/2018 17:38

Bless her @Jxtina86 - ours is like this with DH. They spoon in bed every morning, it's ridiculous

FuzzyPixel · 29/12/2018 17:45

Thanks @Trying2bemum. They're quite well trained anyway so this will just be a new take for us. Before the pregnancy, my main hobby was doing a degree course in Canine Behaviour and training as well as assisting in training classes - unfortunately, I've been too ill to continue those things on top of my usual day job which is quite fast-paced anyway. One of my best friends is a qualified behaviorist and is doing an assistance dog course in the new year, so if I'm well enough to go then I will. I've helped with some assistance dog training before and it's great stuff. The big thing for me is that it'll help build communication with the dogs and help change their routine, preparing them for the new addition. Smile

Onestep2 · 29/12/2018 17:45

@reginaphelange87 whooohooo go you hahaha

I'm another one that is renovating the house before baby! We need new kitchen, bathroom, flooring, new carpets throughout, all 3 bedrooms all done up and new furniture, new doors..... pretty much everything

We also have an open plan hall and stairs which obv won't be practical for when baby is scooting about so will need a joiner in to seal up the stairs too

Cannot wait till it's all done n dusted!!

Jxtina86 · 29/12/2018 17:48

@Trying2bemum she does that too! She's all over me when he's not around but the second he comes in, I'm old news! However since being pregnant she has become a little more possessive of me - she lies with her head or paw on my stomach and she also went through a phase of attacking DH if he tried to touch me if we were lying in bed...!

FuzzyPixel · 29/12/2018 17:50

I'm loving hearing of house renos @Onestep2. Have you spoken to your DB since #offyoufuckclaire lost her mind?

Trying2bemum · 29/12/2018 17:53

That's so impressive @FuzzyPixel

Lol @Jxtina86 😂 that's sweet she's being more protective of you. Mine is oblivious 🙄

TheScaredyKat · 29/12/2018 18:19

That's amazing @FuzzyPixel that your dogs can do that! We've tried to get our cocker Sid to recognise and bring named items but haven't got far, generally everything is a ball. Any tips gratefully received!

Nobody panic. We'll be fine money wise as long as the house doesn't throw up any more surprises. Even if it did this child is going to be so spoilt by it's over excited grandparents it definitely won't be going without anything

AnnaBegins · 29/12/2018 18:24

@Jxtina86 the infant car seats which click into travel systems can usually be seatbelt secured or you can purchase a separate isofix base. Non-travel-system car seats are either seatbelt or isofix, not both. You can get group 0/1/2 ones if you want to be cost effective and not have a travel system.

AnnaBegins · 29/12/2018 18:26

If anyone wants sling or baby carrier advice I'm happy to help, I love slings! And I'm qualified as a babywearing "peer supporter" (basically I can give advice to friends and you know I've had some proper training but I'm not a professional!)

Jxtina86 · 29/12/2018 18:41

@AnnaBegins thanks for the info, very helpful! I only heard about isofix when a friend had a baby and I was like what do you do if you don't have a car?! And then was thinking about what we'd do when visiting parents who live miles from train stations and not on a bus route lol.

Michelle0507 · 29/12/2018 18:42

Love that other people's cats spoon in bed and cry if they're locked out of the room. We tried locking ours out and Pablo pulled the carpet up trying to get in!!! We shut the youngest in the large spare room whilst we were having work done and she pulled all the carpet up by the door we couldn't get in!
We bought ours as a renovation the porch will be finished, new internal doors & nursery then that'll be it for a while as I don't think we'll have spare ££!

Jxtina86 · 29/12/2018 18:44

@AnnaBegins just saw your sling post too. I feel like a sling will be a must for me - prams & London buses just fill me with dread! Would you recommend buying a sling in advance or wait and see what works best with actual baby? I have found a sling library near me which is handy for when required!

AnnaBegins · 29/12/2018 18:57

Oooh @Jxtina86 glad to be helpful! You can go along to the sling library before baby arrives to see what you like best and practice with a doll rather than your own precious child Grin for newborns I think something stretchy is most comfy, like a stretchy wrap or close caboo. But for some a buckle carrier is preferable - something like a connecta or Integra can be used from birth without faffing with an extra insert. Lots of choice, and ok some can be expensive but sounds like you'll get the use out of it! Buying secondhand is always cheaper too (facebook sites generally more reliable than eBay where there can be cheap Chinese fakes).
