I’m still managing to hide my pregnancy at work with loose tops. No way i’d be able to hide it from people who knew me but I just started a new supply job and so I think they probably just think i’m a little chubby. Told a friend they didn’t know yet and she was like ‘how on Earth are you hiding that bump!’ 😆

Surprisedmom · 15/10/2018 23:14

@Celebelly I specifically asked about sizes and to see the charts on the computer after my 20 week scan as baby’s dad is 6’3” and I was worried about size (seems he’s big but not massive and very long legged). The hospital didn’t print it out for me but did say the info was sent to the midwife, so perhaps you could ask at your next midwife appointment to see the percentile measurements?

Since2016 · 16/10/2018 05:33

Honestly I wouldn’t worry re a big baby. Shouldn’t really have any bearing on labour unless you’re measuring weeks ahead and off the charts. Plus predictions can be way off - DD was predicted to be 8-8.5 pounds and came out (6 days late) at 9.11. Her size had no bearing on my labour experience - that was just my body!

Place marking 😊

emalady · 16/10/2018 07:12

I did have a bit of a panic about labor the other day looking at DHs big head. Didn't make things easy for myself there!!

I don't think I'm all that big, although I have got a bit fat, but people keep asking when I'm due and looking surprised when I say Feb. It is very strange the way people feel ok to comment on your body in ways they normally wouldn't consider.

Lulabell1 · 16/10/2018 08:06

I think also people think ohh thats far away when you say feb but its not really when you think about it just sounds it because its next year so we all just must look big to them! Only my belly had grown thankfully!

I dont no why but i just keep thinking about when it hits feb and i start seeing all the labour comments from eberyone saying its started soooo exciting ha!

Baby160P · 16/10/2018 11:20

My MIL regularly told me from day one that all the male babies in the family have been bigger than 10lb....

I've mentally prepared myself that it'll be HUGE!!!

We found out we are having a boy last week and he was on the 50th percentile (so far)

AliceRR · 16/10/2018 11:29

@Baby160P The consultant told us after 20wk scan that all babies develop at roughly the same rate up to that stage and that it’s later that the baby grows either more or less than average so you wouldn’t know at 20 w stage whether baby is going to be big or not if that makes sense. That’s what she said.

Notquiteagandt · 16/10/2018 11:40

@AliceRR yeah I was worried at my 12w scan that baby was small. But they booked me in for growth scans for various reasons which start at 26w but they would have more idea at my 20w scan. But at 20w scan said the exact same shes still small but that its only after 25w or so that they can get a better idea of size. Things may change.

My family has huge babies. So its a bit of a shock to be told im having a small one. But so long as she is healthy all I care about. Someone has to be the biggest and someone the smallest.

twiglet · 16/10/2018 11:50

Back from my 24 wk appointment (2 days early). All measuring fine 🙂
Got to listen to his heartbeat was so fast! Midwife said my BP was low when she said 58/110 I said that's really good for me! I had a different one as mine is on holiday.

Also got my baby box form so will be posting that today, for any other Scottish posters it's really good had a cute hooded jacket.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 16/10/2018 12:05

Re braxton hicks - I've been having them since 16 weeks! I get a few a day. They start off in my chest and squeeze, which is an unpleasant sensation!

@lanalawr. I have been getting dehydrated too, I knew it was important to stay hydrated but I didn't know quite how important! I wish I'd caught it before it had become an embolism but catching it at all was literally a life saver!

Thanks :-) @Lookingforadvice123. And @bubblybrit and twiglet and @Fredthespider

@Lulabell1. It's vile isn't it! My Grandad had one and unfortunately didn't survive it. They think I might have been slightly prone already, I'm just hoping I won't be a lifer on thinners 😔

@powkin. Zoned out might be the wrong phrase...I remember zoning in more than anything. I was sat using my laptop on the sofa and I had the sensation of your heart almost stopping - I then gasped for breathe and leapt off of the sofa quicker than I've ever moved! Once I'd stood up I couldn't regulate my breathing, it was fast but my heart felt like it was trying to stop so I thought "Shit, I need an ambulance". I've never phoned an ambulance for myself before. I then called my Mum and husband. My BP was fairly normal funnily enough but my heart rate kept jumping from 80 odd to 126!

@Pepper123123 I have bladder problems too, since I was 17 😔 So they just have to lump it at scans!

@AliceRR. I normally get palpatations so I assumed it was normal - it's definitely better to be safe!

LookingAtTheStars89 · 16/10/2018 12:07

@Notquiteagandt. I'm having growth scans - 28, 31, 34 and 37 weeks.

AliceRR · 16/10/2018 12:16

@Lookingatthestars89 oh my gosh that sounds so scary

LookingAtTheStars89 · 16/10/2018 12:40

@AliceRR. Not the best day ever 😂.

Yakadee · 16/10/2018 13:18

Did everyone get told what centile their baby was on at the scan? Thankfully all ok with baby but nobody mentioned it at mine? X

Since2016 · 16/10/2018 13:45

@yakadee is it on the print out?

OP posts:
Leonora94 · 16/10/2018 13:47

@Baby160P My MIL is doing my head in about how big my baby will be...."DH went straight into 3m+ clothes so your wasting your money buying new born..." "DH was 10lbs and the worst birth out of all of them" "Theres no waY your having an average sized baby" "Your much bigger than my friend at work" ect ect ect...have to keep saying "Well I'm not giving birth to DH am I?!" Baby girl is bang on normal size if anything slightly smaller - leave me alone! lol

Celebelly · 16/10/2018 13:47

@Yakadee I got zero details! No printout or anything. All I know is everything looked fine. I have my midwife appointment next week so I guess I might get more info there.

Notquiteagandt · 16/10/2018 14:07

Mine was on my growth charts and the scan reports @Yakadee

It said 5th percentile on mine so I queried it with my OB as I was worried. Only reason they spoke to me about it.

Baby160P · 16/10/2018 14:23

@AliceRR interesting to know, I'm mentally
Preparing for a big baby.

@Leonora94 literally sounds like mine!!
Although I embarrassed her the other day with the sentence 'oh well RIP vagina' 😂

hayley013 · 16/10/2018 14:41

IME whatever calculations they make at the growth scans aren't overly accurate, though I do imagine it'll define whether baby is generally big or small. I was terrified with DD, being so small-framed I was told at growth scans to expect a 9-10lb baby, didn't help I was so big and everyone was sayin wow she's gonna be a big one 😳 she arrived on her due date at 7lb 12 and was tiny! I've heard of this happening to loads of other people too so wouldn't get too concerned on the weight they give as such, though it is good to be offered the extra checks.

Lookingforadvice123 · 16/10/2018 14:46

Place marking, will have a proper read later!

I'm having BH too, I had them from about 20 weeks with DS so not surprising!

twiglet · 16/10/2018 14:48

I only know that he's 60th percentile as the sonographer said he was measuring 2 days further along and we were commenting on his big feet..... So she said not to worry that he was 60% in one but 50 in the others.

Midwives measurements today were normal.

Since2016 · 16/10/2018 14:51

I know this one will be big - family history and DD’s size! I have a growth scan at 32 weeks. Like I said previously though - it’s all guesswork really - she was much larger than predicted! The record in my family is 10.7 - my littlest brother!!

lanalawr · 16/10/2018 15:06

@Yakadee I didn't and didn't get a printout either. I have brief notes from the scan that say the head circumference measures a few days behind gestational age and femur length a few days ahead. I didn't get a printout like others have posted last pregnancy either. Midwives like using fundal height to track size but that's not accurate either. It's often a case of wait and see for most pregnancies (unless it's tracked by growth scans later - and even they can be off).
