@Baby160P

Placenta is the whooshing noise you hear

Your heart beat is much slower than babies and your no when your on your heart beat I.e on your sides where the arteries are I was picking that up at first but babies heart beat is very fast I find it around 153 usually and that's 100% baby then

Rowse · 27/09/2018 17:00

Welcome and congratulations @beckyxo!

It's a long appointment where they ask you specific questions about your health, the fathers health and family health history. Hearing issues, heart issues, whether you've had chickenpox, if you smoke, if you've been to a zika area recently. That kind of thing.

As mentioned below they do a urine test, and you'll also do this at every midwife appointment. Mine sent me for a blood test at another part of the hospital at the booking in but nothing to prepare specifically.

Yakadee · 27/09/2018 17:14

@beckyxo - congratulations and welcome! I bet that was a surprise 😊

Just found out my work maternity pay policy has changed from 7 to 20 weeks full pay - result!

I also got some stuff from newlook in the sale today - 6 tops / jumpers for £37! 20% off in mothercare too - much be my day!

Hope you're all ok today. Xx

Lulabell1 · 27/09/2018 21:06

@Lulabell1 - lovely scan pic, congrats on your boy 😍

I had an appointment at 16 weeks and don't have one now until 28 weeks x

FrowningFlamingo · 27/09/2018 22:22

@bubblybrit - glad to see you back! I was a little bit worried something had happened with your pregnancy but didn't like to PM to ask!

@yakadee weirdly my leg hair has stopped growing completely. But I am getting a bit of a hairy tummy Confused

We moved into a new 'fixer upper' house in April so joining the ranks of the house refurbishers. We'd saved money in advance for the works so have had to scale down the plans a lot to allow us some buffer for my mat leave. We'd been trying for a year so to be honest weren't expecting to conceive the month after moving Grin

bubblybrit · 27/09/2018 22:30

@FrowningFlamingo. Thank you for thinking about me. Baby is doing good. Started to feel a little flutter here and there. Mixture of excitement and nervousness for next scan on Wednesday. How are you getting on? I wasn’t able to catch up on the last thread as it moved so quickly!

FrowningFlamingo · 27/09/2018 23:00

I'm ok thanks. I've been feeling lots of movements for a couple of weeks even though I'm only 20 weeks now and it's my first. I'm sure my dates are off as I got my BFP far too early in my cycle too... at 12w scan he was really uncooperative but they said from what they could see he seemed only a couple of days ahead of my dates but I'll be interested to know what my 20w suggests!
My scan is also next week - on Monday. Fingers crossed they go well for both of us!

Wames90 · 28/09/2018 06:57

@Lulabell1 I had another appointment this week with my midwife when I was 21 + 5 and will see them about in 4 weeks time (not sure if this is because it’s my first pregnancy). I got my mat B1 for work this week and booked in for my whooping cough and flu jabs.

1stTimeTina · 28/09/2018 07:04

Hey as if we're half way!!! This is flying! I had 20 week scan on Tuesday , all healthy but the little tinker had the cord between its legs so we couldn't tell gender , booked a private scan for Sat to confirm 😊 she was really rough on my scan and my stomach was so tender for a few days after...! I used to be pretty active and a bit of a gym bunny but in the first trimester I was so ill and couldn't walk to the end of the street without feeling sick. I'm much better now but haven't been able to get back into exercise. Even cleaning the bathrooms gets me out of breath and lightheaded 🙈 does anyone have any suggestions on getting back into it? Xx

emalady · 28/09/2018 07:29

@FirstTimeTina I was never quite up to gym bunny levels but was doing quite a bit and stopped due to nausea /exhaustion. I'm walking more again now, started pregnancy yoga and restarted pilates plus have had one session back with my trainer who is taking it easy with me but getting me to do some gentle strength work. That sounds like loads but I feel like I'm being very chilled!!

powkin · 28/09/2018 08:29

@Lulabell1 I had an appointment at 16 weeks and another at 22 weeks, but was just meant to be sometime after the 20 week scan. I have a handout with the all the maternity dates and visits and what they are for. I have a specialist midwife but don’t think my schedule is different because of it, it seemed generic to the hospital!

Since2016 · 28/09/2018 10:39

Hi all have been a bit quiet recently as I’ve been so worried about lack of movement. Scan today though and all is fine. And we’re having another girl! I’m over the moon. Placenta is at the front wall which is probably muffling some movement but otherwise fine and baby measuring comfortably on the 50th centile across the board.

Massive relief. And so much easier in terms of sorting clothes etc!

Due Feb 2019 - we’re halfway!
twiglet · 28/09/2018 10:53

Got my scan at 11.30 didn't think I was nervous about it but I had a horrible vivid dream last night where everything was wrong with our little boy Sad
So now feeling nervous and worried, I'm trying to be rational (we had a private scan 3 weeks ago and everything looked good) but pregnancy and rational don't always go hand in hand.....

Baby160P · 28/09/2018 10:53

@Since2016 I've been worried too. 10 days to go!!!

Lovely scan pic though very clear!

Yakadee · 28/09/2018 10:57

@Since2016 - we're team girl too! Congratulations x

AliceRR · 28/09/2018 11:02

Hi All I apparently had a high posterior placenta which may explain why I am feeling movement regularly.

We are having a girl too 💕

We are so happy - would have been happy either way but it’s nice to know! also DH wanted a girl as he has two boys and I kind of wanted to give him a daughter as that’s what he wanted!

Lookingforadvice123 · 28/09/2018 12:32

Congratulations all on the scans and boy-bee/girl-bee news! My 20 week scan is Wednesday, I can't wait but I know I'll be so nervous leading up to it. I just feel like it's such a big deal, so thorough. Looking forward to seeing the baby again, I'm planning on having one more private scan at around 30 weeks so the 20 week is hopefully the penultimate. Which feels weird as I had so many with DS!

twiglet · 28/09/2018 13:14

Scan was pretty much all healthy feel a bit of a numpty for being so worried Blush I was showing as being 2 days further along but still around 50-60% percentile.
I do have a low posterior placenta not quite fully covering but not the distance they were looking for so have another scan booked for 34 weeks just to be on the safe side. Sonographer was lovely though and said not to worry about it things often move as pregnancy progresses and see it as another chance to see baby Smile so booked in between Christmas and New year as the actual date worked out for Xmas eve......

Since2016 · 28/09/2018 15:02

Me too @twiglet but hey ho!!!! My next scan is at 23 weeks and then 32 which will feel like such a long gap!!!!!

Now we’re a back to debating names. Our DD has an unusual Irish first name and quite an English middle name. DH keeps making odd suggestions and I am keen on another Irish name. We had chosen Aidan for a boy but now back to square 1!!! We think we have the middle name though...

twiglet · 28/09/2018 15:13

@Since2016 I was a bit worried about it when I first came home, sometimes Google is not a good thing...... But I have never had bleeding to date and it wasn't full coverage.

I'm hopeful that it will just sort itself out rather than bed rest and a C section for 3rd trimester I was hoping to work up until 10 days before my due date to maximise maternity leave!

Since2016 · 28/09/2018 15:55

I wouldn’t worry twiglet - my friend had it and it moved before 32 weeks and she gave birth naturally at 40+7.

I’m in awe of people working up to the end. I’ve saved all my annual leave in order to be off in advance!!!

AliceRR · 28/09/2018 16:05

I was shopping at lunchtime and someone who works there seemed to recognise me and was then suddenly asking about my pregnancy (I have a big bump compared to the rest of me) and touched my bump! I was a bit annoyed and felt she was asking personal questions... I don’t know this woman. Why did she touch me?!

Yakadee · 28/09/2018 17:18

@AliceRR - unfortunately some people think it's ok? I'd never do it (unless it was one of my sisters or friends and would get permission). Nobody has done it to me this time but it did happen a few times with my first x

Lulabell1 · 28/09/2018 18:11
