Has anyone used/does anyone use bump bands? I saw one on jojmamanbebe that you can use with trousers you already own to help transition to full maternity wear that might be too big initially. I think you can use them aswell to give you a smoother look under/over clothes aswell. Just wondering if it's worth it and how much use I'll get out of it. Would be nice to get some use out of my jeans/trousers that fit everywhere bar the waist and stomach. Here's the link:

TheWanderlust · 26/09/2018 10:33

@ballanj I've been given 3 and for the life of me cannot work out how to use them so that they stay up. I'll be watching to see other people's recommendations!

ladycarlotta · 26/09/2018 10:45

@Marmite2018 you poor thing! I'm so sorry this is still going on. Sending you rehydrating thoughts.

@ballanj happy birthday! Enjoy the holiday.

I'm having a bit of an 'oh shit!' moment with the pregnancy. Like I just realised it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING. There's a baby in there and it's going to come out at the beginning of March. Yikes.

Velcro88 · 26/09/2018 11:02

Hi all! I've been away for a couple of weeks and luckily started to feel loads better. The headaches have passed and although I'm a bit tired it's nothing like before. I'm wondering if I'm coming down with a cold now, but I'll take it after feeling almost human again! I'm 18 weeks today. I've also tried to catch up on the thread - happy birthday for yesterday @ballanj! Sorry to those who are still feeling rotten, hopefully we'll all be feeling more human soon. Not sure about that glow though. And very exciting to hear there might be some bubbly baby movements! I've not felt anything yet but anterior placenta so may not for another few weeks.

Seen some lovely scans here. I guess everyone has had their early scan now? When's the first 20 weeker? Mine's booked for next Wednesday and the scanxiety is building. The trouble with feeling human is that I've been feeling like I'm not pregnant again! Also things like eating cured meat and drinking a bit of wine and jumping in the pool.... it's got me worrying! That Expecting Better book has become my bible!! So reassuring.

So on one hand I'm convinced everything has gone wrong and on the other I'm looking at buggies and snapping things up on fb marketplace (found a great as-new glider chair for Β£30, Β£200 new!). Keen to spread the cost and keep my eyes out for what I want on the second hand market over the next 5 months. Trying not to get carried away until I know if everything is ok though! Has anyone else started down that slippery slope?

melissa112 · 26/09/2018 11:37

@Velcro88 glad to hear you're feeling better and hope you aren't getting a cold! I've been feeling the same, worrying that's there's nothing there anymore but also researching prams and car seats loads!

@ladycarlotta I had that feeling too. It all became real (despite my worries about something gone wrong) yesterday when I was driving to work. Not sure why but it suddenly hit me.

@Wineandchoccy hope you feel better soon and manage to get some rest

After feeling really fed up the past few days I had my 16 week appointment today at 15+6. Asked midwife to check for heartbeat as she said she doesn't routinely do it at this check incase they can't find it but she would if I wanted her to. She spent a while (or so it seemed) trying to find it and the whole time she couldn't I was mentally booking in a private scan! Eventually she found him and ahhh I feel so happy now! Had a few tears on the way home as id convinced myself something had gone wrong.

cardboard33 · 26/09/2018 12:55

@velcro88 Exact same. I want to work out what we might want to get now then keep an eye on prices for black friday/post Christmas sales as well as charity shops etc as that seems like the sensible thing to do. But then don't want to get too into it as husband feels it's way too early and I don't want to get carried away given it is quite soon and I don't feel pregnant.

People at work are starting to know now as I'm relying on the gossip mill rather than telling everyone, and someone yesterday was like "March. That's quite soon..." And I was like don't say that!! But it is in the context of our jobs as we need to plan a year ahead... So I've already got lots in the diary that I know I can't do.

cardboard33 · 26/09/2018 13:00

@melissa112 so glad your scan was positive!! You must have been so happy to hear the heartbeat given everything you've been feeling (or not feeling) recently. Did you discuss your thoughts at all? I'm no expert given this is all new to me too but what you've described is kinda how I feel atm too.

@ballanji happy birthday! It is weird that our lives will never be the same after March... I sort of feel ready though in the sense that most of our friends have kids or are pregnant so if we weren't also having one then we'd need to find new friends!!

LittleKitty1985 · 26/09/2018 13:22

@Velcro88 Fortunately one of DH's best friends is selling us some of his baby stuff for v cheap, including a bugaboo pram for Β£100 (Β£900 RRP)

Velcro88 · 26/09/2018 13:28

@melissa112 @cardboard33 glad I'm not alone in this then!!

@LittleKitty1985 that's amazing, what a great friend! I think we've decided on a bugaboo too. I was wooed by the Fox but as that's new and shiny this year we'd be lucky to pick one up reasonably second hand!! I think we're going to go for the cameleon πŸ‘πŸ»

I've found prams and car seats are just a whole other world of confusion!

Velcro88 · 26/09/2018 13:31

@melissa112 well done for asking the midwife! I had resolved to but I lost confidence in the room because she was just obviously really busy, which was silly of me really. It must be so lovely to hear your little one's HB! And reassuring too. πŸ™‚

Wineandchoccy · 26/09/2018 13:37

@Velcro88 My scan is next Thursday, feel so nervous already.

I am working from hone luckily I feel rubbish just wondering how much I will miss if I go and lie down for an hour.

Velcro88 · 26/09/2018 13:47

@Wineandchoccy I'm sure an hour out would do you a world of good. I say go for it and I'm sorry you're feeling so rubbish. Will have my fingers crossed for you next Thursday!

I'm just off to get my flu jab and book the whooping cough.

LittleKitty1985 · 26/09/2018 13:54

@Velcro88 yeah this is a chameleon, looks good!

ballanj · 26/09/2018 15:34

@melissa112 I have my 16 week check tomorrow (bang on 16 weeks exactly) and I have no idea whether they will offer to try and listen to baby's heartbeat. I might ask the midwife if she doesn't mention it as I'd love to hear it if they can find it!

Also, I know they make you give urine, take bp, do bloods, weigh you etc. But wondered do they feel you?! As in your bump, to see how things feel?! I'd just like to know if they can feel my uterus as I find it hard to determine hard stomach from wobbly bits πŸ˜‚

ballanj · 26/09/2018 15:36

@cardboard33 yeah I'm the same as you, have lots of friends with children but just as many without children too, so will get the best of both worlds once baby's born!

ballanj · 26/09/2018 15:39

@Velcro88 @LittleKitty1985 I think I'm decided on a bugaboo aswell. Very fortunate that OH's parents very kindly said they'd pay for our pram after we'd had our 12 week scan. It's one less thing we have to think of funding. I'm intending to start a list after my 20 week scan on 30 October and take it from there. Hoping to grab lots we might need in Black Friday or January sales.

Bluebelltulip · 26/09/2018 15:39

ballanj when I was pregnant with DD my urine and bp were checked every appointment but weight only at booking in. At my 16 wk she did feel my tummy to check my uterus had popped out of my pelvis.

melissa112 · 26/09/2018 15:55

@cardboard33 I didn't have a scan today, it was just the usual 16week appointment but I think if I hadn't have asked the MW to listen to the heartbeat she wouldn't have offered but did say she would listen to it at each appointment going forward.

I did discuss my concerns with how I was feeling but she did say it's quite early yet to feel movement and that they only tend to worry around 24 weeks which seemed long to me! I did feel reassured by the heartbeat but she said it's the time when your sickness may have ended or be better and a lot of women feel like this at this point.

@ballanj the MW didn't take any bloods (but mine was at GP so not sure if others do?) Or weigh me as she has no scales in the room. Which I did find odd. I weighed myself before I went and have put on 300grams since my booking in appointment but she didn't seem concerned either way.

She didn't have a feel of the bump but I wish I'd have asked now actually as I feel the same as you about the wobbly bits 🀣 I think if I were you I'd ask about the heartbeat. I think a lot maybe don't even mention it if they don't do it as standard so would be worth an ask.

ballanj · 26/09/2018 16:08

@Bluebelltulip see it's funny isn't it, you had your pelvis felt but that wasn't the case for @melissa112 I think it must just depend on what information you give the midwife and whether or not you raise any specific queries. I think I will ask to hear baby's heartbeat if they don't offer it, but mindful that they might have trouble finding it.

orangekitkat13 · 26/09/2018 16:17

@ballanj my midwife and a feel of my belly and did the heat beat and 16 weeks, hopefully yours does too. She didn't take bloods though which I was expecting.

We are planning the same in terms of Black Friday/Christmas sales. Finding it quite hard not to buy lots of little bits now though!

ballanj · 26/09/2018 16:30

@orangekitkat13 I'm the same in terms of buying things. I think I'm just waiting until the 20 week scan so as not to tempt fate, even though I'm a rational person and know that buying a baby grow isn't going to jeopardise this pregnancy! Funny how we all think isn't it.

melissa112 · 26/09/2018 16:50

What are your thoughts on having a pram in the house before baby is born? We were planning on getting the pram after the 20 week scan but then decided to wait until black Friday and see if we can get a deal. My mum and nan nearly fell off their chairs that I would have the pram in the house before baby was born? Does anyone else feel like that? Do you order it to pick up just before baby is here?

I'm also finding the crib stuff a minefield. What do people use for when the baby is in your room with you for those first months? I know there are loads baskets. we were looking at a Snuzpod but not for the co sleeping thing, just as a bedside crib. But then not sure what baby would sleep in during the day.

I'm probably just rambling out loud 🀣 I know it's early to think of this stuff but I want to research now and then try and get a good price later on

melissa112 · 26/09/2018 16:51

Moses baskets, not loads**
