@LittleKitty1985 I've been pretty consistent on pelvic floor exercises since ds was born as I had bladder issues (sorry tmi!) and had to have physio to help. My physio HIGHLY recommended continuing with the kegels through this pg to minimise similar issues again and to help with second stage labour. Emily Oster's Expecting Better book also says to do pelvic floor during pg. I worked them into my day by doing them in the shower and when brushing my teeth! Pretty easy to remember once you've got them into your daily routine! Definitely worth it, bladder control isn't issues with a baby/toddler in tow is not fun!

Also @Villagefete I abstained during the first trimester as I think there's some evidence for a slightly increased risk of miscarriage with alcohol but since then I've been allowing myself the odd drink (up to 2 units) if I feel the urge, slowly and on a full stomach. I'm really not enjoying wine though despite usually being very much into my wine! Did have a g&t at a 50th birthday on Saturday though which I enjoyed very much...

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 19/09/2018 09:29

Also, I forgot to say we got a new EDD of the 26th March 😊

Gronk27 · 19/09/2018 09:49

@bluebelltulip sounds like a rough morning. Hope the doctor can reassure you and you can all cuddle down for the afternoon! Flowers

MyMumDimensionJumps · 19/09/2018 09:50

Hi everyone.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in as a newbie and congrats on all of your pregnancies. I'm due on the 23rd.

Is anyone else still suffering with bad MS and nausea? 13 weeks and already sick twice this morning. I'm sure it had gone by now with my first pregnancy, so am slightly concerned it's never going to go away until DC is born. I heard some people are bad til 16 weeks.

Someone mentioned hypnobirthing on here - I can't recommend it enough. My mum commented on how well I coped with labour and lack of pain relief (I would have took it if I could have had it!) And it was definitely down to that.

Someone needs to do a similar CD for coping with MS.....

VillageFete · 19/09/2018 10:13

Thanks for all the replies re - the occasional drink. Glad to know i’m not the only one who thinks it’s fine.

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever Lovely scan! I can’t see a nub so not sure on the sex. How far are you?

Angelmiracle · 19/09/2018 10:25

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever what a lovely scan of baby such clear features! I'm not great at guesses but looks girly unless the nub rises. So glad you enjoyed your hen weekend and you were able to tell everyone. You have a lot of exciting times ahead!

@Bluebelltulip hope DD is ok and the doctor can give her something to help. It is really tough pregnant and getting up with a child. DS has been up the last 2 nights but doesn't appear to be coming down with anything Confused doesn't like the dark suddenly!

@MyMumDimensionJumps congratulations you're very welcome! Is this your 2nd?

I downloaded a sample of Marie Mongan's book. I had an 18 hour labour with DS with gas and air but it was an obstructed labour as he hadn't fully rotated so was took into theatre for a forcep delivery. Registrar said he never had such a calm patient! Would hypnobirthing have prevented it being an obstructed labour or is it just to keep you calm and in control regardless of how you end up delivering??

@mymumdimensionjumps Wecome! I was asking recommendations. Where didn't you get the CD?

Gronk27 · 19/09/2018 10:41

*did!

Nightmanagerfan · 19/09/2018 10:52

Just back from scan - all fine! So relieved. Risk of downs 1:2000, amazing relief after last time. We are so happy! Now to celebrate with a long day at work ;-)

Oh and I’m now measuring 13 weeks and EDD 27.03.19

SquirtlesMumAgain · 19/09/2018 11:04

14 weeks today and just back from the doctor for antisickness med attempt 2... Last ones just stopped working and saw lunch and dinner again yesterday, sigh!

If you're being sick don't feel you have to go through it without help!

Murphyrocks · 19/09/2018 11:05

Congrats @nightmanagerfan! Such great news. I heart baby's heartbeat at my midwife appointment this morning, nice to check in!

Bluebelltulip · 19/09/2018 11:25

Thank you Gronk27 and AngelMiracle DD has an ear infection and because of temp now has antibiotics.

Dd is at my mil it’s very peaceful Smile

MyMumDimensionJumps · 19/09/2018 12:53

@Angelmiracle

I was lucky enough to find a second hand one on eBay, but think they sell online too. I didn't really read the book, just listened to the CD. I had a forceps delivery too. I found I was still in a lot of pain though, but it just helped me stay calmer and I just sort of followed what the dr said without thinking.

My cousin also borrowed it and my aunt was also surprised how well she coped. I think it's worth trying, as even if it doesn't work, you get half an hour of relaxation out of it each night in the last few weeks at the very least.

ballanj · 19/09/2018 12:55

Hi everyone, pleased to say after a couple of quiet and early nights my headaches seem to have finally shifted. I really do agree with the fact that tiredness has a huge impact on how we cope in pregnancy. But I also feel like some of you guys who feels wimpy/guilty at even being able to say 'too tired' or 'doing that will make me too tired'. I think I need to try and factor in the rest I wouldn't have had do before in order to feel more human!

ballanj · 19/09/2018 12:57

Also, I have my 16 week check next week. Will I get to hear baby's heartbeat? I'm really hoping I do, just to hear it really 😍 and wanted to record for OH as I'll be going alone. Would be lovely to hear before we go on our last holiday as a twosome next Saturday.

Murphyrocks · 19/09/2018 13:10

@ballanj I had my 16 week check this morning, they didn't offer to check heartbeat so I asked; she said she'd try but it can still be difficult to find at this stage so not to worry if she couldn't. Thankfully she did but if she couldn't I probably would've freaked so up to you!

ladycarlotta · 19/09/2018 13:11

lovely scans @assumeitwassomethingclever (what an ace little profile it has!) and @nightmanagerfan. So pleased all's looking good.
@ballanj just had my 16-week with the midwife and she didn't check the heartbeat :( the consult I saw yesterday did though, which was lovely to hear. I think they don't do it as standard at 16w as it can be hard to find which leads to more worry rather than less.

ladycarlotta · 19/09/2018 13:15

oops, cross-posted with @murphyrocks there.

Today the midwife said that as my blood type is rhesus negative, I might need the anti-D shots if baby is positive - she took blood today to establish that. Anyone else had/need anti-D? Sounds like it'll be no big deal as long as I get the jabs, but a bit freaked out that my body could end up hostile to a baby!

frenchgal · 19/09/2018 13:17

@LittleKitty1985 LOL- no, honestly, I hadn't. I am going to plead baby brain. Thanks for pointing it out. Did a quick pubmed later - all seem to indeed point to a lack of evidence.

That's why I was asking - i have religiously been doing them, so was hoping it wasn't a waste of time.

I work in the field of malaria and maternal health in Sub Saharan Africa so haven't across much on this type of issue I must admit.

Wineandchoccy · 19/09/2018 13:22

@ladycarlotta I’m rhesus negative I had anti d at 28 weeks in my last pregnancy and also the morning after I gave birth as dd is positive blood group.

My hospital trust is one of the few trusts in the country that are trialling the new blood test at 16 weeks to establish babies blood group before hand so i may not need it this time.

Be warned if you do need it the letter will say in your arm but I had it in my bum as apparently it doesn’t hurt as much there and I don’t remember it hurting apart from the undignified bending over in a hospital room Blush

Murphyrocks · 19/09/2018 13:24

@ladycarlotta interestingly this is one of the things that has changed since I had ds 2 years ago. I'm rhesus neg too so had the anti-d jabs as standard then but about 18 months ago they brought in this test to check at 16 weeks whether baby is + or -, the idea being they don't give you the anti-d if you don't need it, as actually I didn't with ds as he's neg too!

But no your body won't reject baby, if there's any chance baby is positive they'll just give you the anti-d which will resolve the problem, please don't worry!

Wineandchoccy · 19/09/2018 13:27

@LittleKitty1985 probably not what you want to hear but if you ever want to go on a trampoline or bouncy castle get squeezing children ruin you! Grin

ladycarlotta · 19/09/2018 13:42

thanks @murphyrocks and @wineandchoccy. Bodies are very weird and complicated things. And thanks particularly for the heads up on having it in the bum! Definitely the sort of thing it's nice to be warned of in advance.
