So maybe my wish for a Pisces for a water sign household is off the mark and I know where I am with a straightforward Aries!

I'm very headachey. Going to book a pregnancy massage, sure it's back tension. Which in turn has made me feel sicky again.

LittleKitty1985 · 18/09/2018 20:52

Who's been doing pelvic floor exercises? I know I probably should (although the evidence for them isn't hugely compelling imo) but I haven't much so far, I think I need to build them into my daily routines

Gronk27 · 18/09/2018 21:02

@littlekitty1985 (good year!) I have when I remember. Not sure I'm doing them exactly right.

I just wanted to pop back on and ask for hypnobirthing tips and recommendations.

Sorry to be a pain ladies, I’m feeling quite anxious.
Looking more into high blood pressure I think I’ve been having signs the last few weeks. I will randomly have shortness of breath.. for example, two nights ago I was reading to my eldest and was struggling to breathe properly. I’m having heart palpitations every now again (I have always had them so this I wasn’t noticing as an issue) and having severe headaches which last all day and night and will have the same one even after a full nights sleep. Shall I wait until Monday for my next BP check up or shall I call someone sooner?
I’m not overweight, I’m within my normal BMI. I’ve never suffered from high BP with my last two pregnancies.
Any help or advice would be fantastic, please x

ladycarlotta · 18/09/2018 21:04

I had an appointment with a consultant today because prior to this I had 3 consecutive MCs. She thinks - and I'm happy to agree - that since I don't have any obvious risk factors, if this pregnancy has hung on this far it's likely to be ok. Kind of sad to have lost 3 just to dumb luck, but on the other hand that means I don't have to be consultant-led for this pregnancy, which would have limited my birth options. I got to hear the baby's heartbeat - it was galloping away 😊 and she said if I thought I could feel it moving, I was probably right.

@villagefete I had my first drink last week. Like you, I've been really reassured by Expecting Better - I reckon a little drink here and there won't hurt after first trimester. I'll definitely be indulging in a few mulled things at christmas.

@littlekitty85 Oh gosh, I hadn't even thought about pelvic floor stuff! Perhaps I should get to it.

Bluebelltulip · 18/09/2018 21:07

VillageFete I think I'll probably have to the occasional drink this time.

Littlekitty1985 I've been doing them since last pregnancy, dropped in frequency prior to this pregnancy though. I tore last time so continuing them post pregnancy was stressed by midwife and doctor.

My fil is hoping that I don't go overdue again this time as the family is rather aries heavy.

Spud2019 · 18/09/2018 21:15

@7415N1d0r1391117 I reckon if you saw your consultant today and they checked you you're probably in a good place unless you develop any of the pre eclampsia signs they tell you to call immediately for before your next appointment (this is the NHS list www.nhs.uk/conditions/pre-eclampsia/) or start to feel worse. Hopefully they'll monitor you nice and closely now they've spotted it's raised, most people I've known end up with bed rest if it gets to a level where they are worried, and sometimes early induction. I'm sure bed rest is awfully boring but it sounds fun to me tonight, so sleepy :-)

I have the lowest blood pressure in the world (like getting dizzy/falling over low) and still get surprisingly breathless when pregnant. Always assumed it must be my bump pushing stuff but that is probably not a proper medical explanation

1986mumof5 · 18/09/2018 21:16

@villagefete I very rarely drink alcohol even when I'm not pregnant (not by choice btw but hardly go out and usually have to drive early next day) but in all my pregnancies I've had a glass of wine/champagne here and there. Ive never had any adverse effects. When I was pregnant with my first (12 years ago!!) I didn't know til I was nearly 10 weeks. It's was Christmas and new year just after I conceived and I went on a three day bender pretty much ( I was 19 lol) and my eldest was fine. I don't think there's anything wrong with the odd tipple at all.

LittleKitty1985 · 18/09/2018 21:20

@VillageFete I've not drank alcohol at all and I'm not intending to, if I have the willpower. I was a v frequent drinker before pregnancy so I don't want to start rationalising that one drink is fine because then I may end up having a large glass of wine most nights! Confused

NotDoingThat · 18/09/2018 21:34

@VillageFete I picked up DP's beer and had a sip early on - completely forgetting I was pregnant!

Other than that not touched a drop- have already made it through birthday and never was a big drinker. It's been a piece of cake compared to going old turkey smoking when I found out (baby was a surprise!)!

I don't think there's anything wrong with the occasional drink, but I really haven't missed it on those special occasions so far. A glass of bubbly at Xmas might be nice though so shrug.

Wineandchoccy · 18/09/2018 21:36

@VillageFete despite my name I hardly drink at all since having dd so I don’t miss not drinking when pregnant but I’m sure an odd drink won’t do you any harm.

NotDoingThat · 18/09/2018 21:40

@1986mumof5 that's reassuring- the week before I found out I was pg (week 4) could have been used as a training video of what not to do/ eat/ drink when you're pregnant- hot tubs, soft cheese and all!
Fortunately everything looks healthy- babs probably wasn't implanted then I think!

PurpleFlower1983 · 18/09/2018 21:57

I’ve discovered alcohol free Old Mout cider - it’s good!

Gronk27 · 18/09/2018 22:00

@villagefete I intend to have a celebratory glass or two.

1986mumof5 · 18/09/2018 22:01

@notdoingthat yeah I think babies are more resilient thank we think. Don't get me wrong I err on the side of caution with most things but I disagree that expecting mothers need to walk around as though they're carrying a temperamental bomb!! I mean with my youngest I had three other children to look after too as well as home educating them and working graveyard shifts 5 days a week until 38 weeks pregnant. I completely understand women who have had previous complications being more cautious and taking it a bit more easy and definitely feel blessed that besides a few scares I have had 4 trouble free pregnancies labours and births. I slipped in water whilst 38 weeks with my third and she was engaged. I literally broke down thinking of her poor soft skull and rushed to the labour suite to get checked out. Her heart rate was exactly as it should be and she came 8 days late perfectly healthy. As long as you are sensible there's no reason why you can't enjoy yourself whilst pregnant which includes the occasional drink, late night, night out if you feel up to it and if anything feels strange or untoward get it checked out x

ballanj · 18/09/2018 22:02

@VillageFete I've been reading Emily Oster aswell. I drank during my first trimester on occasion (mainly to avoid suspicions, I found it more stressful having to make excuses than just have one small glass of wine) I was a very frequent drinker before I got pregnant and right now I'm having one or two glasses most weekends. Always with food and I drink slowly. I personally really enjoy the taste of a good wine and once my appetite came back I enjoyed having a glass of red with my meal. I think you have to be comfortable with whatever you choose to do, don't worry about what other people think and it's entirely your decision and no one else's. My close friends and family have not batted an eyelid and have even said it's good for them to see me relaxed about it. Everyone is different of course, I have friends who wouldn't touch a drop and friends who would drink regularly or on occasion. Whatever you choose to do, enjoy!

toastfiend · 18/09/2018 23:22

I'm another who, although not a frequent drinker, has been enjoying the odd glass on occasion. I abstained during the first trimester but have had a small glass of wine on two occasions since then and just drank it slowly.

I'm finding my headaches are eased with paracetamol but I'm getting guilty feelings about taking it so frequently. I'm trying to stick to no more than 2 tablets a day and only when desperate, but these headaches are just disgusting! Fine when I'm lying still isn't the dark but the moment I move they're absolutely terrible.

I'm dreading tomorrow. Out late at a work thing tonight, just got home and I'm up at 6am for another work thing tomorrow. They've been great so far but I'm so paranoid they'll think I'm taking the piss I'm worried about saying "I'm going to be too tired to do that." I've been told I can work from home tomorrow afternoon if needed so that's good, I'm just doubting myself and feeling like a lightweight, but I've never felt tiredness like this before!

I'm another who has been really breathless but with a normal blood pressure. Midwife just told me to go to the GP if I find it gets significantly worse or I am breathless when resting. It was the first thing that alerted me that I might be pregnant so I'm guessing it's just normal for me. Makes me feel terribly unfit though!

ladycarlotta · 19/09/2018 00:12

@toastfiend I'm so feeling you on the anxiety about saying 'I'm too tired for that'. I feel absolutely overwhelmed and blindsided by my tiredness, but I feel like such a baby for mentioning it. I'm used to being physically pretty capable, in terms of walking everywhere, swimming a lot, but since being pregnant that's felt impossible and I've found it a bit disabling and frustrating. I just need to get over myself, take more buses and more naps, but that's not always possible.

BadBadBeans · 19/09/2018 06:22

@Shampooeeee thank you for the recipe - it sounds delicious and has me craving stir fry now! I had smoked tofu for the first time the other week and I loved it, so might try it with that!

I just woke up from the world's most vivid dream in which Louis Theroux had marked my end of year English exam (it's been 12 years since I sat an exam at uni) and had scored me very highly - go me! And then I was having a very realistic bleed on the toilet, which was a less fun part of the dream. Brains are mad.

@VillageFete with DS I had two mouthfuls of champagne and that was it. I feel a bit more relaxed about this one but I haven't drunk anything yet. To be honest I really like Becks Blue and I find it scratches the itch for a nice cold lager. My husband has also taken to drinking them since DS as it means he can have a useful evening while still having a cold beer!

Continuing the nesting theme, I went and spent a whole morning in Ikea yesterday! Got a massive bright rug for the lounge, which is starting to look much cosier. Can't remember if I said but I'm.doing it as a surprise for DH who is away with work this week. A happy consequence of this is it's so much easier not having to agree on the things I'm buying πŸ˜‚

BadBadBeans · 19/09/2018 06:28

@7415N1d0r1391117 - gosh I wish I could make my phone copy and paste your username πŸ˜‚ - I had palpitations in my first pregnancy and they did an ECG on me. I was fine but I was glad they checked me out. I'm another one suffering from shortness of breath this time round, despite being towards the bottom of the healthy BMI scale and being reasonably fit usually! But the headaches would make me call the midwife for advice, as that was something she said to contact her about. Just give them a ring today - it won't take a moment, they won't mind, and it will give the medical decision about whether anything needs doing to a professional rather than leaving it with you x

pushit · 19/09/2018 07:53

To the tired mummas @ladycarlotta and @toastfiend and everyone else... please don't worry about saying you're too tired for stuff. Obviously you want to keep work happy but listen to your body, I learnt the hard way and ended up in A&E after fainting with dodgy levels. I hate this culture that says pregnant women should just crack on and stop being a sissy. It's hard work growing s baby.

On the exercise front I've gone back to Zumba as my energy levels have returned!! (No jumping, I take it very easy) still blimmin knackered a lot of the time but I'm finding sleep easier now too I'm 17 weeks.

frenchgal · 19/09/2018 08:33

@LittleKitty1985 where are you getting your evidence from?

From what I read there is fairly good evidence re pelvic floor exercises during pregnancy ?

Interested to see other studies !

www.cochrane.org/CD007471/INCONT_how-effective-are-pelvic-floor-muscle-exercises-undertaken-during-pregnancy-or-after-birth

LittleKitty1985 · 19/09/2018 08:54

@frenchgal Did you read this section of the abstract?:

Quality of the evidence
Overall, studies were not large and most had design problems, including limited details on how women were randomly allocated into groups, and poor reporting of measurements. Some of the problems were expected because it was impossible to blind health professionals or women to whether they were exercising or not. The PFME differed considerably between studies and were often poorly described. Evidence quality was generally low to very low.

Hi everyone.
Trying to catch up as been away for a long weekend on my hen do. I chose to tell them all and they were all really supportive. I was worried It'd be a bit of a damp firework with me not drinking but really enjoyed myself.

We had our second dating scan on Friday (the day before I went) and got to see baby. I was surprised how active it was as it was really flailing its arms and legs around. It's got really a pronounced nose and lips, no idea where it's got those from! ☺️ πŸ˜‚ Feels a lot more real now. Just got the wedding and honeymoon to go now and then I can't wait to have her/him.

Does anyone have any opinions on what gender it'll be from the scan photo? 😊

Feeling rubbish this morning, DD isn't well and didn't sleep much which has meant my morning sickness has returned. Taking her to docs soon as can't keep her temperature down so very worried and feel on the brink of tears. Just wanted to moan somewhere.
