@melissa112 of course you were better off eating crisps than nothing at all! And I doubt all the toast you've eaten has been well-done or burnt, either! I hope that when you have time to sit and read through the link you will feel a little more reassured about how hugely common all these foods are and how MOST WOMEN will be eating lots of them, especially in the first trimeseter when carbs are so helpful for keeping nausea at bay! In fact, the report said that ALL of the women whose cord blood they tested contained some level of acrylamide. It's just part of our diet. I'm certainly not going to stop eating my bowl of breakfast cereal every morning. Or my mid-morning toast! It's what's keeping me going!
I have a huge thing about carcinogenic food as my mum died of cancer in her early forties. HOWEVER, as I have listened over the years to some of the contradictory reports about what you should consume as part of a healthy diet, I have come to the conclusion that the best thing for me to do is to eat in a balanced way. If I have a lot of soy products one day, I don't eat any for a few days. If I have a weekend where I eat a lot of sugary food, I cut down a bit during the week to compensate. Yeah, it's maybe not the best idea to eat loads and loads of crisps for the rest of your life - the fat and salt content would probably do more harm than anything else! But for a couple of weeks it won't have hurt you, or your baby. And don't forget, some people eat crap diets literally their whole lives! I hope you can get it in perspective - it was just a couple of weeks out of an entire pregnancy.
Why don't you have a look online and see if you can see which crisp brands are lowest in acrylamide? That might be a good compromise. (I have been necking Hula Hoops like they're going out of fashion and I never normally eat crisps at all. I wonder what their levels are like!)
@Hurradieweltgehtunter Double congrats to you! That makes two sets of twins on this thread now, which I think is about right statistically! How exciting!
I'm having an early nesting phase. DH is away for a week with work and I am determined that the house is going to be spotless by the time he's back. It's been awful for weeks because I've been too sick to do any cleaning, and DH just doesn't notice or care about mess. However I have just gone mad online ordering beeswax candles and terrariums (terraria?!), and I'm planning to get some lovely throws to cosy our lounge up for the winter. We have a really odd assortment of inherited furniture in our lounge and it's currently a bit cold-feeling and unpleasant to hang out there, so I want to make it a lovely positive space for DS to play in and for DH and I to enjoy evenings relaxing in. Think I'm going to get a load of seagrass baskets to store DS's toys in, too. Go me!
