@Gronk27 Gosh, I love it so much that I don’t care deep down. But a sister for DD might be nice? Then again it would be so lovely to experience a son, so to be honest I might be tinged with a little sadness either way. I know that sounds mad.

Kee80 · 15/09/2018 11:25

@VillageFete lovely scan pic. I have no idea about gender either.
I was put forward 2 days at my scan too, which I thought was pretty odd and impossible!

Is anyone having problems with their gums? I woke up and my gum in front and behind my top 2 front teeth is swollen!

ladycarlotta · 15/09/2018 11:39

@VillageFete what a cutie! So glad everything looks good. Mine was measuring 4 or 5 days behind what I thought at the earlier scans I had, but at 12 weeks it was bang on my calculations, so I think they do have little growth spurts in there rather than growing evenly - if it's unlikely you're really so far ahead, yours might have just had a big push which will even out later.

FWIW, I think that looks like a girl, but my nub theory really isn't too hot.

VillageFete · 15/09/2018 11:43

Thanks for your lovely responses. I am thinking it looks a bit girly too? I’ve told my DD now. She is about to turn 9 and was getting suspicious! She is on cloud 9. It was one of the best experiences of my life telling her Flowers

Murphyrocks · 15/09/2018 12:49

@villagefete awe that's lovely, both the gorgeous scan pic and how happy DD is! I think bubba's leg might be hiding the nub? I've got no guess I'm sorry!

I was put forward 4 days too despite knowing exactly when I ovulated as I was temping and using lh strips. Plus the average 2nd baby is 3 days late (average 1st baby 5 days late) so in my head my EDD is actually a week later than what the NHS has given me! DS was 12 days late and I was so utterly miserable being overdue so hoping it'll help having a later date in mind if it happens again.

Gronk27 · 15/09/2018 13:00

@villegefete of course it doesn't matter but I don't think there's anything wrong with having a preference and I think either way you might think of what if it had been a boy/girl. Are you finding out? Your DD must be so excited!

@Kee80 I think gum problems are usual? I haven't had anything but fully intend to make use of the free dentistry (gums are why we get it though as far as I know!) My Mum and various others have been telling me to get to the dentist.

@murphyrocks I didn't know most babies are late. I'm crossing my fingers for a pisces!! (no offence Aries-my best friend and brother are Aries and we're both Cancers so thinking lots of water signs will be more harmonious. If you believe in any of that jazz)

VillageFete · 15/09/2018 13:06

Again thanks for lovely responses! I am definitely finding out, yes. Just a bit confused about dates now? But maybe it’s a case of baby being curled up or stretching and that can throw dates off. My official NHS 12 week scan is Friday, will be interesting to see what date they give me. It’s moved from 1st April to 28th March so far.

Murphyrocks · 15/09/2018 13:36

@Gronk27 I'm afraid so yes, I looked this up when the days seemed intolerably long when overdue with DS! The dating system is antequated (from the early 1800s. Seriously.) and the average baby will be born a few days after EDD, although obviously plenty are still early! I think its skewed because you get babies born really early in the 20-36 week mark, or who are induced early for medical reasons, but they don't let you go beyond 42 weeks so although the 'average' is 280 days after LMP the most common date for babies to arrive is 283 days past LMP.

Sorry about the rambling, hope that makes sense! Data soothes me πŸ˜‚

ladycarlotta · 15/09/2018 14:02

I'd never realised before going through this what a total crapshoot the EDD actually is. I'm never going to set much store by it again.

melissa112 · 15/09/2018 14:06

@VillageFete what a gorgeous scan!

Sorry to hear there are quite a few of us still feeling nauseous. Although after feeling so rubbish yesterday, today I've felt well enough to go to the garden centre with my mum for a brew and a look round and have managed a huge tuna mayo baguette. So who knows! Fingers crossed it's nearly passed!

VillageFete · 15/09/2018 14:18

My nausea has definitely eased off to what it was but i’m getting terrible headaches! Just want to lie in bed all day.

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/09/2018 14:19

Congratulations @VillageFete I would guess girl x

VillageFete · 15/09/2018 14:52

@PurpleFlower1983 Thank you! Any particular reason why a girl? Can you see a nub? I am so crap with all of that, I don’t have a clue.

Murphyrocks · 15/09/2018 16:11

@Villagefete looking again there is something visible that could possibly be a nub, in which case I'd agree with @purpleflower1983 that it looks girly, but I'm not sure at all if it's a nub or not! You see that bright white line between the legs running horizontally? Could be a nub...

ladycarlotta · 15/09/2018 16:57

^yup, that's what I thought. Everything looks very parallel with the spine rather than angled away from it, which in my limited understanding points to girl.

Gronk27 · 15/09/2018 19:02

@villegefete the headaches are horrible aren't they? I've got a stabby uterus today.

@murphyrocks thanks for the info!!

Do any experienced MNs know if I should be ok to carry out an acting job which will be fairly low key energy wise but still having to 'perform', where I have to 'present' and be on my feet most of the day at 26-28 weeks?

Also anyone else freelance and know how to guarantee getting the full amount of MA?

VillageFete · 15/09/2018 20:02

@Gronk27 I too am an actor by trade! I also help run an acting agency and I freelance with a very well known media company (Don’t want to say too much incase I out myself)

Do you have the number for maternity allowance charity helpline? They are amazing and will talk you through it all. I can give you the number if you like?

Gronk27 · 15/09/2018 21:42

@villagefete no way! Brilliant! I was doing a bit of research and it seems to say if I earn just over Β£100 a week in October and November which I certainly will I'll be fine. The other bit I found confusing where you have to earn over Β£300ish in 13 weeks or in a week?! Either way the number would be helpful. Can always have a google, I didn't know such a think existed!

VillageFete · 15/09/2018 22:47

They are brilliant. Check the website out as it’s only open certain days and times.

From memory you qualify for full rate of
MA providing you’re up to date with your self employed NI contributions.

Gronk27 · 15/09/2018 23:04

@villagefete thank you! According to the gov website you have to have earned a certain amount I think but I'll ask the helpline.

HidCat · 16/09/2018 03:50

@XxsimonexX congratulations! Must have been a shock to realise you'd skipped the first trimester, how are you feeling?

@1986mumof5 congratulations to you too, looking forward to hearing your insights.

@VillageFete Fab scan pic - I'd go with a girl as there is a white line horizontal to the spine that looks like the nub to me. As for dates the variation could be that you ovulated and / or implanted a couple of days later than expected. Sperm can live several days before the egg appears.

EDD are just a guide really but I remember last time feeling put out that not only had my midwife primed me to go over my EDD (I was a day early), I was told that first time labour would be at least 10hrs and mine was 4.5 from first contraction to (assisted) birth, would've been quicker but he got stuck. Don't trust the averages ladies πŸ™ˆ.

@Gronk27 In theory you should be fine, as long as pregnancy progresses well. I work in theatre and it happens all the time but is a very personal decision.

I'm struggling tonight as I have a cold and can't get comfortable. Managed about 1 1/2 hrs sleep before needing to pee and been awake ever since so now sitting on the sofa feeling crap. Nausea is back but for some bizarre reason antacids make me sick so can't take them. I think it's all just the bug making me feel crap - I've felt pretty good all week.

PurpleFlower1983 · 16/09/2018 07:26

@VillageFete The line between the legs looks like a nub and looks horizontal so I would lean girl but at 12+2 that’s still early so there’s plenty of time for it to rise.

Wineandchoccy · 16/09/2018 09:25

I’m so tired I couldn’t sleep at all last night pregnancy insomnia sucks Sad

toastfiend · 16/09/2018 09:53

Another tired person checking in here. I was on my feet all day yesterday and rushing around at a work event and I ached like hell when I got home last night. My sleep is constantly interrupted by needing a wee every couple of hours or so, so whilst I get to sleep OK I'm then up and down like a jack in the box throughout the night, which makes for very broken sleep!

@Gronk27 I'm really sorry, I'm actually not sure, it was given to me by a friend and has no noticeable branding on it so I'm not sure where it's from exactly I'm afraid! It's a big U-shaped, 12ft beast of a pillow though with a plain white cotton pillowcase. I've seen a few on Amazon and Wowcher that look the same and they're not horribly expensive. It's fairly unwieldy but amazingly comfortable and although aforementioned new tiny bladder means I'm getting very broken sleep, I sleep much more deeply and comfortably with the pillow and get to sleep much quicker. I highly recommend it. Smile

XxsimonexX · 16/09/2018 09:59

@hid cat I’m feeling ok having no symptoms at all. Went for a gender scan yesterday I’m having a boy 😊 so in 5 days I’ve found out I’m pregnant then found out I was 16 weeks then the day after found he’s a boy xxx
