@Shampooeeee I was certain it was going to be a boy, partly because I'd read that bad morning sickness is more associated with girls, & I've barely felt sick at all. (This is in the book Bumpology, it's apparently the only science-based theory for working out the gender through symptoms)

Newbie2703 · 13/08/2018 09:37

@shampooeeee I've got a strong feeling mines a girl, not sure if that's just because I want a girl so bad. My mum has a strong feeling it's twins !

wordsmithereens · 13/08/2018 09:41

@Shampooeeee I have a hunch it might be a girl but will probably be eating my words at 20 weeks! Think it might only be wishful thinking. It's also one of the reasons why I want to find out, cause I think if it is a boy it'll give me more time to come round to the idea and focus on bonding.

ladycarlotta · 13/08/2018 10:02

@shampooeeee I kind of think of mine as a boy but I don't know why. I guess part of me hopes it will be as my grandfather died a few months ago and I'd like to use his name as a middle name. But I'd be thrilled with a girl too.

I think we'll find out. I didn't think I'd be so... nosy? about what was going down in my uterus, totally imagined we wouldn't even tell people til like 16 weeks, but it turns out I'm desperate to micromanage. Think it'll help DP feel more involved too. It shouldn't make a material bit of difference as we'd be quite common-sense gender-neutral with it while it's little (a baby's a baby, as far as I'm concerned), but it would be nice to know SOMETHING about it.

Added myself in. @gronk27, we are EDD twins for the minute Smile
Still feeling really sicky all day, no actual vomiting though. Just feeling rubbish. And weepy. It's my birthday this week, and due to uncontrollable circumstances, it's the first for ages where I won't have my husband or Mum with me. Mum is ill and can't travel, and husband has to work, but will be back for a lateish dinner. If I feel up to eating a proper meal. Plus my DD is bored of me and wanting to be back at school. Might stick her on Minecraft and stay in bed all day!
I need to ring the hospital today, and check I am finally on their system. Maybe get my scan date as well!

Marmite2018 · 13/08/2018 10:28

We won't be finding out but I'm sensing boy but I'm not sure why. My mum is set on it being a boy, she had very similar symptoms when pregnant with my brother! I don't mind either way although from a boy heavy family so it would be nice to have a boy as I feel it's all I know!

Got my scan date through for the 30th today. Feeling nervous and excited. Need something to confirm I'm not making this up (although the sudden sick episode brought on by the smell of bananas this morning can mean only one thing in my eyes!).

Has anyone been having really bizarre dreams? I dreamt last night that we went for the scan and they had a "guess the baby" walk through before having your proper scan and it printed out a picture of two babies suggesting it was twins, then it was confirmed by the sonographer! Terrifying! 😱😱

ladycarlotta · 13/08/2018 10:29

@NatashaRomanov ooh happy birthday for when it comes! Can you get in something self-indulgent for the day? That is also doable with nausea? If it were me I'd just be entirely lazy and selfish and watch a box-set that only I like.

wordsmithereens · 13/08/2018 11:03

@NatashaRomanov Sorry you're having to spend your birthday alone, that's a bit rubbish. Seconding the indulgent box set idea, or whatever else would make you happy that isn't food based! Have some early Flowers

Newbie2703 · 13/08/2018 11:16

I would really like to keep the sex as a surprise but got a feeling it's going to be so hard with buying clothes. I haven't seen many nice unisex clothes. Do people normal just buy them once the baby is here ?
Also has anyone got any experience with reusable nappies. I'm very into helping the environment so I definitely want them but not sure which ones are best was looking at bambino mio anyone used them before ?

Bluebelltulip · 13/08/2018 11:35

I bought neutral stuff before hand then got girly bits mainly as presents, they grow so quickly it's not long until you need to buy bigger stuff. Also much easier to stick with vests and sleep suits in the newborn days.

Murphyrocks · 13/08/2018 11:36

@Newbie2703 there are some nice unisex things around if you look in the right places, Little Bird from Mothercare has some great bright pieces and John Lewis does a good unisex range. My ds was dressed in whatever and is still dressed more in girls stuff than boys as boys stuff is so boring! Not dresses/frills or anything, but most boys stuff is just really dull so anything a bit more interesting tends to be labelled as girls!

Newbie2703 · 13/08/2018 11:38

Thankyou I haven't had a look in those 2 so I'll have a little look :)

ladycarlotta · 13/08/2018 14:47

@Newbie2705 H&M is quite good for some unisex bits, and Zara. TK Maxx is good for a rummage for pricier brands - I found some sweet Picalilly (sp?) sleepsuits and also Panda & Sparrow stuff which is made from bamboo and objectionably expensive usually. I like Newbie too for quirky prints.

Not that, ahem, I've been investing. Well, maybe one or two bits. But tbf I have other babies to buy for too.

I'm planning to just get sleepsuits and vest for newborn, and see what people buy for us.

Newbie2703 · 13/08/2018 15:32

Thanks @ladycarlotta I love tkmax I'll take a look there. Just had my booking in appointment it's all so overwhelming !

ladycarlotta · 13/08/2018 16:37

It is a bit! I'm not sure when exactly it'll feel real. I have my 12 week scan a week today and am so looking forward to it but also finding everything quite enormous.

Bluebelltulip · 13/08/2018 18:16

No wonder we fill threads quickly, rough count of the list is 36.

thefirsttimer · 13/08/2018 18:22

We're planning on finding out what we're having as soon as possible. I'm a bit of a control freak so I wouldn't handle not knowing! Did want to do the blood test at 10 weeks, but couldn't justify spending £200+ just to find out a few weeks earlier. We'll be getting a private gender scan though, a place near to us offers them for £49 from 14 weeks, so that's much better!

MistakenHoliday · 13/08/2018 18:40

We're finding out too - I have NO patience!

We might even plump for an early private scan for it, the suspense was too much last time!

fanks · 13/08/2018 20:16

I'm not if we will find out, found out all the other tones but I would quite like a surprise Smile

Just seen this company on tv I wonder if the sweets work?

Shampooeeee · 13/08/2018 20:35

@Newbie2703 I used cloth nappies with DS. Mio solo are good (and good value if you buy in the Aldi baby event) but you really want a range of different brands. You will find different styles fit/ work better for you at different times (as baby grows/ summer vs winter/ how much they are moving etc). Eg when DS learnt to undo Velcro, I was glad to have some nappies with poppers!
My faves were Wonderoos and Bumgenius elemental.
Also birth-to-potty is a bit of a myth. BTP nappies are ridiculous on a newborn. I had a set of Charlie Banana newborns to get through the first two or three months.
Feel free to ask if you have any other questions. I did a lot of research whilst pg last time and I like to share the knowledge!

HidCat · 13/08/2018 20:49

We're planning on using a lot of what we had with DS regardless of sexy. In an ideal world everything would be regarded as neutral but as boys and girls tend to be different shapes it's not so easy. I accidentally bought DS a pair of girls trousers and the fit was all wrong around his legs. Vests and sleepsuits though are my go to until several months in!

@Newbie2703 @Shampooeeee I'd love to know more about reusable nappies! My OH is adamant he'll only use disposables but that doesn't stop me using them when he's not around. I've only really looked at the Asda ones so far.

HidCat · 13/08/2018 20:50

Sex not sexy 🤦🏼‍♀️
