Into months 7 and 8 of our pregnancies now.. this will most likely be our last 'pregnant' thread before we all have our babies!!

How did we get here? Feels like just yesterday we were waving hello from the TTC boards.

If anyone new would like to join please do, we also have a very busy (private) Facebook group for everyone due in August 2018.

We have a shortlist of names but not sure which will be the right one. I think we might have to wait until she's here and see what suits.

Last time, we chose a name that we thought was not very popular, but it seems everyone else had the same idea and there are loads of them. I'm quite up for going more unusual this time, so that when I call her name in the park, I don't get all the little girls turning round.

Good to hear from you, birdy. I'm glad that your baby girl is doing well. Your pregnancy has been so different to the norm that some of the discussions on here probably seem frivolous.

somersetsinger · 06/07/2018 09:05

Babies don't need darkness to sleep, BeesKnees. They nap at any time and don't care about light at all. However, at some point, you will want the baby to learn about night and day, so that they do more sleeping in the hours of darkness and shorter naps in the day.

The timing could work out quite nicely as we move into Autumn and the darkness lasts for longer. The problem will come next Spring, when it starts getting light earlier and the baby wakes up with it! So you might want to get a blind for that point.

Emmasmum2013 · 06/07/2018 09:34

@BeesKnees I was going to say the same type of thing as somersetsinger

We used a blackout blind last time (one of them gro-blind ones with the suckers) I think it really helped to get the day/night thing in check.

But yeah, any chink of light that gets through the blinds in the morning and they seem to wake up. So like now when its really light early in the morning, I think its worth having a blind.

Emmasmum2013 · 06/07/2018 10:37

Had midwife appointment this morning. Everything going ok, except I was measuring slightly small but the midwife is not concerned. She said they'll just keep an eye on it at my next appointment.

BertieBotts · 06/07/2018 11:03

Mine is just going to have to get used to being woken in the morning as we invariably sleep with the window open, even during most of winter it's ajar, and directly behind our flat is a huge and lovely wood which is filled with birds so we get serenaded every morning!

DH has started to figure out his usual patterns of movement, he seems to be awake regularly for about an hour between 11 and 12 pm. I wonder if it will be the same when he's out.

BeesKnees9 · 06/07/2018 14:29

Thanks for your tips Smile the babies room does actually have black out curtains but he won’t be in there for a while. The gro blind looks like an excellent short term solution @emmasmum2013, I might buy one closer to the time and if we don’t use it in the first 2 weeks return it!

Emmasmum2013 · 06/07/2018 15:50

Good idea @BeesKnees9
They're good to take away with you as well. I was going to get the same this time but I got one that has velcro things that go around the window frame because we've got shutters now, so we'll see how that works out.

BertieBotts · 06/07/2018 16:34

I think I might put together a pack for DS1 who is 9 (nearly 10) and looking forward to being a big brother, what kinds of things would you put in it? So far I've got the following ideas:

Dr. Who themed book of fairytales
Baby record book aimed at siblings
Peg for nose for nappy emergencies
"Shirt protectors" (muslins)
Book of science experiments to perform on babies
Rain maker (to make sounds for baby)
Hand puppet
Big bro/little bro matching shirts (I can't decide whether to just leave the little bro one in, in case "big brother" is too uncool to ever wear, but I found a little bro one for €1.20 already)
Plain vests and fabric pens, to make his own designs?? - don't know whether to get a tie dye kit instead and do this as a fun activity together during ML before the baby comes.
Pack of haribo dummies? XD With note not really for babies, you'd better eat them quickly.

I had a nice quiet morning at home with my DS, then at lunchtime my waters went, shortly followed by contractions! Drove myself to hospital, handed over DS to his granny and I’m in the labour ward waiting for my husband to get here (stuck in traffic about 2 hours away...). I’m hoping it all dies down a bit and I can keep her in there a few more days. Wish me luck!

samb1979 · 06/07/2018 17:17

Good luck @birdy1978. I shall keep everything crossed for you 😊

peterpanwendy · 06/07/2018 17:20

@Gem173 I get the hard bump and pain underneath when I overdo it. It can be so painful!

@Emmasmum2013 I love Eliza!

@StrawberryLemonade as little as 2 weeks? That's amazing and so exciting!

@BeesKnees9 thank you I am feeling a bit better, still so exhausted!

@birdy1978 oh wow! Good luck!! How many weeks are you? At least you are in safe hands x

Good luck @birdy1978 !! Sending lots of positive thoughts your way x

SpriteGirl · 06/07/2018 18:07

Oh my goodness @birdy1978! Hope all is well and your husband is with you.

Boys names have been the worst! I’ve come up with one this afternoon though just waiting for DH to get home to see what he thinks. I’m not sure if it’s a bit ‘out there’ but we’ll see.

Gizzymum · 06/07/2018 18:20

@birdy1978 good luck! Hope it all goes smoothly.

Gizzymum · 06/07/2018 18:27

As for names, we struggled with DS1 as we like traditional names (which some apparently find a little bland 🤣) but didn't want anything too used. We are in a similar position this time.

BertieBotts · 06/07/2018 18:39

Good luck birdy! Hope your DH managed to arrive.

milney25 · 06/07/2018 18:58

@birdy1978 oh my goodness!! You seem so much calmer than I would be! Keep us posted! X

Stephiewoo · 06/07/2018 19:27

Emmasmum2013 · 06/07/2018 19:31

Oh wow @birdy1978!!!! This could be the first of many, ladies! I do hope she cooks a bit longer for you though. Keep us posted when you can. 👶

szwidix89 · 07/07/2018 00:02

@birdy1978 fingers crossed for you! Good luck!

birdy1978 · 07/07/2018 01:09

Well she’s here: Anna Elizabeth, 6lb 1oz. Labour progressed quickly so by the time I was prepped for a section I was fully dilated so we just went for it. Very quick, forceps, episiotomy and ventouse. Absolutely no pain, the spinal was awesome. No pain yet, I should add- still plenty of drugs in the system.

YouCantBeSirius · 07/07/2018 02:40

Aw congratulations birdy Flowers beautiful name. I hope you are both doing well

Stephiewoo · 07/07/2018 02:46

Congratulations @birdy1978 on the safe arrival of Anna, rest up, enjoy.xxx
