Into months 7 and 8 of our pregnancies now.. this will most likely be our last 'pregnant' thread before we all have our babies!!

How did we get here? Feels like just yesterday we were waving hello from the TTC boards.

If anyone new would like to join please do, we also have a very busy (private) Facebook group for everyone due in August 2018.

Massive congratulations @birdy !! All the best for you, Anna is a lovely name!

birdy1978 · 08/07/2018 10:11

Thanks for all the lovely messages. We’re hoping to get home today - feeding is going well and she’s doing great. I got to meet her twin brother last night. He was tiny and so lovingly wrapped up by the team here. Hospital is unbearably hot - I’d not recommend having a baby in a heatwave! Hope you’re all keeping cool, x

@birdy1978 Anna is so beautiful and must of been so so emotional for you. I'm glad the staff with you were respectful and that your dear little boy was treated with dignity and lovingly cared for.
Thinking of you and your family at this amazing, emotional time.xxxx

SpriteGirl · 08/07/2018 10:49

@Birdy1978 your girl looks so precious and adorable! It’s amazing to know she’s doing well and that you are all being cared for under the circumstances. My Thoughts are with you and your son xx

Anyone else got braxton hicks? I have got severe lower back pain so bad that I sometimes can’t move. Every so often I get the same sort of tightening pain that’s in my back around the front under my bump where I think the cervix is. It’s not too painful but uncomfortable it’s so hard to describe in words. Baby has been very active today aswell. I told my mum and she said it’s probably braxton hicks and to try stay in a comfortable position. If it gets worse to let her know. I’ve taken paracetamol and it’s done nothing. Just wondering if this is normal at this stage (32+4) im sure it is.. but as FTM I’m quite weary.

BertieBotts · 08/07/2018 20:10

Yes I get BH I think it's best to be active during them personally, unless you think they've been caused by overdoing it.

I don't take painkillers for them but you can use a heat pack to ease them (as if you'd want to at the moment!)

BertieBotts · 08/07/2018 20:10

I suppose you could try the opposite, a cold compress/frozen peas :)

Birdy lovely pic!

Emmasmum2013 · 08/07/2018 20:22

@Gem173
Could the lower back pain be related to the possible water infection you were saying about yesterday? How did you get on with that? I know they can cause pretty wicked kidney pain that can feel just like back ache and can radiate round the front too.

If it just Brixton hicks then I think the advice is to change what you're doing. So if you've been active, try to rest or have a bath. If you've been sat down then try and go for a little walk and see if they ease off. Hope you feel better soon!!

Gem173 · 08/07/2018 20:46

@BertieBotts @Emmasmum
I will try the cold compress and I guess be more active seeing as I’ve been sat down most of the time aside from the odd chore.
Funnily enough the burning when i wee has totally gone today. I’ve been keeping hydrated and other than my privates feeling like it’s about to fall out and braxton hicks I’ve been okay. Thanks for the advice xx

peterpanwendy · 08/07/2018 21:00

Ive been getting lots of under the bump pains too, assumed it was BH and agree that changing what you're doing helps!

I have been so uncomfortable today. I have no idea how I'm going to survive the rest of my time at work. 2 weeks 2 days to go. I'm so hot and uncomfortable! Want to be able to enjoy these last weeks but I just can't while this hot and this exhausted :(

MamOfFrankie · 08/07/2018 21:03

I am with you on that one! Very excited for the Sunday where I don't have to think 'bugger, it's work tomorrow'. Classrooms are so uncomfortable in this heat as well - like they have been deliberately designed as sweat boxes.

BertieBotts · 08/07/2018 23:01

Oh gosh yes, actually, that's a very good point - important to get checked for UTI/kidney infection especially if you've had back pain - no messing around here, don't leave it if there's even a slight suspicion of that because it can be really very dangerous. My doctor was VERY clear about that (I do have previous kidney issues but IIRC my midwife was quite concerned about UTIs in my first pregnancy which was pre kidney issue).

If you don't want to see your GP/midwife tomorrow, at least go to a pharmacy where they can give you a UTI test strip, even if the burning has gone. Best to rule it out. My kidney issues were not during pregnancy but I ended up in hospital on a drip just because I felt fine and didn't connect the dots until I suddenly was very much not fine!

It's my last week at work now. Every class I teach this week it's going to be my last time. I feel a bit emotional about it, even though I'll be glad of the rest (and possibly going crazy... I'll have to set myself all kinds of tasks...)

StrawberryLemonade · 09/07/2018 08:17

Ive been getting under bump pain too. Not the same as my BH which are very tight across whole bump (but are also becoming uncomfortable!). I did quite a lot yesterday walking etc and kept having to stop due to stitch like under bump pain. Settled when I rested. I think it might be a sign I’m trying to do too much. Still feels like there’s so much to do though! I’m fully aware I could get an induction date for next week and the house isn’t sorted yet!

samb1979 · 09/07/2018 13:13

I've been having under the bump pain for a while, only realised that little one doesn't like me wearing certain styles of bottoms! Wearing a lot more loose stuff but I would definitely go see someone! It puts your mind at rest of nothing else. I had to leave work today as I've got the most horrific headache (not been sleeping at all, but then again who has in this heat!?) think I've been over doing things, as I can hardly move this afternoon. Feels like I have a nasty head cold but without the symptoms! Thank god for an understanding boss!!

Gem173 · 09/07/2018 15:44

Hope everyone is okay and coping despite some aches and pains they may have. I decided to self test myself with a urine stick and the results didn’t look too good (may have been because I read them wrong not sure!) Anyway I made it to 3pm and my back was in a lot pain and I didn’t feel so well. Anyway got sent home and have a doctors appt to test my urine at 5:40pm and will prob get it sent off to check my kidneys. Hope everything’s okay :/

Gem173 · 09/07/2018 16:24

Do you ladies think it would be silly if I ask the doctor to be signed off for a week to rest my back as it’s in agony?
I hate taking sick days and feel bad about work and leaving people to do the job. But my back is just ridiculous. I’m not sure if to be signed off I have to ask or if the doctor has to suggest it :s xx

peterpanwendy · 09/07/2018 17:08

@Gem173 you can most definitely ask, the worst he can say is no and even then you can self certify for a week. If it's really bad I would take some time off. I had 3 days off last week because I was poorly and I feel much better for it. Hope it I eases soon. Ask him about taking cocodamol if paracetamol isnt helping x

BertieBotts · 09/07/2018 18:14

Hope doctor's went OK and it's not kidney related because that's really sore even when not pregnant. Also I know they tend to do that thing where they ask you to stand still and then they tap/lightly punch your back where your kidneys are and if your kidneys are infected that might have REALLY hurt so fingers crossed - but if it is that you're likely to be in hospital by now getting a scan done to check them and hopefully some strong medicine to sort it all out.

Gem173 · 09/07/2018 18:28

I saw the doctor, been given antibiotics for water infection as the urine test came back that I have an infection. She sent it off for it to be looked at to make sure it’s not kidneys but can’t rule that out yet. She told me to take 3 days off work and then after a week of taking antibiotics (nitrofurantoin 2x a day) if my back still really hurts then she will sign me off till I go on mat leave xx

Emmasmum2013 · 09/07/2018 18:43

Hope the antibiotics work quickly @Gem173 and that cures your back too.
And it's really good that they've said they'll sign you off til mat leave!! Get some rest and plenty of water

StrawberryLemonade · 10/07/2018 07:27

Hope the antibiotics kick in soon Gem! Doctors are generally quite nice about signing you off as long as it’s a genuine reason which this obviously is! Legally you have to self certify first though :)

Gem173 · 10/07/2018 13:00

Thanks ladies, I definitely feel abit better today. My back pain has lessened but deffo still there. Have been to my last antenatal class today so that’s it.. I should be prepared for my baby boy to come into this world.. except mentally I’m not haha and although I’m not scared of labour etc I am a little nervous about the pain and the after care (ie, my body going back to normal, the bleeding etc). My midwife was lovely and reassured me everything will go okay. But there’s always doubt at the back of my mind. Just wish little one would hurry up and get here now so I don’t have to wonder about ifs and buts!
