Hellooooo !!

And as for DH administering perineal massage at point of baby crowning - I think that's a bit of a non-starter. he has absolutely no plans to be anywhere near the business end.

Looks like I've been doing the massage wrong too Annie - a light rub with Wheatgerm Oil after my shower or bath every day!! Will need to get my thumbs 3cm up my vagina from now on (come to think of it I'll need to cut my nails )

kiteflying · 14/06/2007 15:02

OK, TT you are guilty of making me laugh at my desk just as my t...t of a manager walked past. It was worth it though.

Babylovesmuffins · 14/06/2007 15:05

Hahaha TT!! We start Hypnobirthing 8th July - can't wait for the Rainbow relaxation... Hope DH doesn't find it all a bit "hippy-trippy"!!!!

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 15:18

Well I do think that I probably spend most of the class with my best Roger me Moore eyebrow on (ie one halfway up my forehead in cynical/quizzical manner...)a la . The thing is, the biology part of it is great and makes so much sense to me. A lot of the imagery used in the relaxation part is what does not appeal to my really rather non hippy-trippy attitude. As far as I'm concerned though, even if it doesn't work out too well in labour I think that if I learn to relax myself in general it'll do me the power of good going forward in life. For example, the old adage of 'sleep when the baby sleeps' etc is all very well if you're the sort of person who can drop off anytime, any place etc. That's not me. But if I can get myself relaxed very quickly through a familiar process I think I will be able to take advantage of times like that to snooze. Hope this makes sense !

Oh and BLM, don't worry about him listening to the relaxation bit - it's the birth affirmations that made me nearly fall off my chair...
I quote
"I see my baby smoothly moving down my birth path"
"My baby's chin is tucked down for an easy birth" (WTF ????)

I like the idea of using the Hypnotherapy in other situations TT - I also find it very difficult to switch off, whilst DH is asleep by the time his head touches the pillow - bless!

kiteflying · 14/06/2007 15:32

BLM are you going to the same programme of classes as TT? I realise (at least I think) you are in Scotland but thought it might be the same programme?

Mrsshuvel · 14/06/2007 15:42

Shhhh I'm being sneaky again.

Has anyone had any dreams about the birth yet. I dreamt i'd had the baby and he was lying on my chest but i couldn't remember the birth. I felt very frustrated and then DP woke me up with my shreddies with banana nesquick.

Not looking forward to this perenial massage thing at all. DP doesn't want to do it as he thinks he might get carried away. He hasn't wanted to come near me incase he hurts the baby. I've tried explaining that he can't.

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 15:46

Shreddies and banana nesquick ? Now was the nesquick used on the shreddies instead of plain milk or was it a glass of Nesquick ?

MrsS - we have felt a bit weird about it since LO has started moving, even though we know nothing will hurt her/him - but just cos it seems somehow wrong if s/he is awake.

Babylovesmuffins · 14/06/2007 15:51

Hi Kite, I'm not 100% sure but I think Hypnobirthing is a registered course and they have qualified "teachers" all round the country that deliver the courses. You're right, I am in Scotland

kiteflying · 14/06/2007 15:51

Actualkly maybe you didn't mean that [slopes off after admitting too much]

BabyMadandBIGbump · 14/06/2007 15:51

Mrsshuvel I keep dreaming about having my baby on the kitchen floor with no one around but DC (six week holiday) as they are in the dream pestering for a drink when I'm sitting on the floor shouting for help basically! And while I was TTC I kept dreaming about a baby girl, 9lb 2oz, black hair, and I'm holding her in the air, she is wearing a white dress and only one white sock on! we'll see!

Mrsshuvel · 14/06/2007 15:55

Definitely on the shreddies TT.

Thats exactly what i meant Kite.

Oooh that'll be interesting to see if your dream was right babymad - fingers crossed not the kitchen floor bit though!

Babylovesmuffins · 14/06/2007 16:04

Kite I think this is the course I'm doing www.hypnobirthing.co.uk/ I should really have found out a bit more about it before handing all that money over - apparently it helps you stay calm in the face of labour and to overcome any feelings of pain...

MrsS I've had a very vivid dream a couple of weeks ago about the baby's head crowning between my legs and I was watching it come out!! (Not quite sure how I'd get into a suitable position to do so but anyway).

Which reminds me - when I did the hospital tour they told us that if we gave birth in the birthing pool we could just reach down and pull the baby out ourselves if we wanted

kiteflying · 14/06/2007 16:10

Babyloves I read on another thread about someone doing just that and they said it was fantastic to see baby taking her first breath as she reached the surface.

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 16:10

No, no BLM......there IS no pain my love !! Your body is just doing what it was designed to do. It only causes people pain if they expect it to hurt. Dearie me, you've got a lot to learn about hippobirthing

OP posts:
tokentotty · 14/06/2007 16:11

Oh, and my friend's sister pulled her baby out herself.....and it wasn't even a waterbirth. One word. Euuuwwwwww !!

Hersetta · 14/06/2007 16:13

Must admit, when i first read the description of the massage I though that's not a bloody massage - not one you'd want at the Red Door Spa anyway !

Wait till i tell Dh that it's an internal massage I can guarantee he'll suggest him doing it with a body part that is not his finger!

Just had an ice cream so am feeling much cooler - despite temp now up to 29.2 degrees in the office.

Babylovesmuffins · 14/06/2007 16:17

Ahhhhh... TT that's where I'm going wrong!! Must recondition the mind. Bring on the training!

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 16:21

Before you know it you'll be visualising opening flowers and all sorts BLM

OP posts:
Babylovesmuffins · 14/06/2007 16:22

I wish I had the balls (??) to think I could deliver the baby myself but it just seems like so much responsibility... Maybe the Hypno will help me see things in a new light.

Hersetta I can't believe you're working in those sort of temperatures. Poor you. I'd be writing a complaint letter and then trying to work from home instead. It sounds unbearable...

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 16:27

I tell you what though - was seriously trying to employ some relaxing breathing this morning when I went for my waxing. Sweet baby Jesus !!! That was something else I can tell you. Not sure if I can go through all that again before I've had the baby. Nearly went through the roof
