kiteflying Thanks > just the whole vision of my little baby in his/her room.....arrr! Cant wait!

Hersetta · 14/06/2007 11:41

Hi Kite,

Nope - not at all. if fact I stood next to the seats, hand on bump and my baby on board badge couldn't have been any more prominantly displayed had I stuck it on the end of my nose and still no bugger gave me a second look. Felt very hot and bothered by the time I got off the tube but luckily I had a new train on my overground journey that had air conditioning so felt much better after about 10 minutes - didn't get a seat all tube journey again this morning but it's much cooler in the morning so can live with standing then.

Bought my digital room thermometer in today and currently it's 28.2 degrees on my desk and it feels much cooler today than the last two days.

TT - what strength raspberry leaf tablets should we be buying. Had a look in Holland and barratt and they sell ones that were either 400mg or 640mg - which should I get? Will also stock up on some sweet almond oil and arnica when i go and get the tablets.

Hahahahah I'm going to go home tonight and take a picture of Peanut's room at the moment and let you see what you think of our choice of current decor.....
My Nature's Nest arrived at DH's work this morning which has got me excited I must say. We're going to assemble it this evening after we're back from car shopping. I think DH is hoping that playing with baby stuff will calm me down after my invitable temper/fury at dealing with car salesmen...

Hi Everyone

Have just sneaked on quickly. I'm supposed to be sorting out a manual for my replacement, she starts on monday! That has really brought it home how close we all are.

Have had lots of kicks in the ribs today. Was going to do the kick count but baby had kicked about 20 times before i'd even sat up in the bed this morning. DP says baby has ADHD!

Babymad, your nursery is gorgeous and i'm very we're having baby in with us for a while as we need the rent we get for our two spare rooms. The room my brother is in would be ideal for a nursery and i keep looking in there thinking about it but we need the money if i am to take a year ML.

Glad everyone's feeling better, we should be ok today as its a bit cooler.

Gonna try and sneak back on later TTFN.

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 11:45

Sorry H, x-post there. will check which tablets Betty left me and let you know tonight or tomorrow. Next time I see her (friday week) we're going to be discussing perineal massage.... Have already been told to buy olive oil ready. Eeek.....

Aaarrggh - Hersetta, you did not use the magic words of "Get up you tosser city type with your tossing newspaper and Ipod cloistering you from the world - can't you see I am pregnant??"
(or the politer version I suggested yesterday)

My yoga teacher suggested that if you were going to use the tablets you should really start them very late in pregnancy. The tea can be used as a "toner" without danger of bringing on labour. Not sure whether this matches Betty's prescription, TT?
I used to drink RL tea to get through period pain - it tastes like dirt and is only drinkable with something like peppermint or dandelion in the mix as well.

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 11:53

Well will make further enquiries with Betty next Friday about the tablets but she was very insistent about me starting them at 32 weeks. I think it's more about conditioning the cervix etc rather than hurrying labour on.

i mentioned it to DH last night and said he may have to do it for me if i find I can't reach myself.

Cue his eyes lighting up and him saying "so you want me to rub you down there - every day". He is so getting his hopes up!!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 14/06/2007 11:59

Mrsshuvel Thanks

BabyMadandBIGbump · 14/06/2007 12:49

Has anyone claimed for their "Sure Start Mmaternity Grant"?
I put in a claim 10 days ago and it came this morning and because we are on low income we got the full £500, which I'm really pleased about as I put a few things on my C-card and now I can paid that off!

bananabump · 14/06/2007 12:54

lol hersetta, they are ever the opportunists aren't they! We have decided to give up on actual sex now altogether (sorry if TMI) as it's just far too awkward/uncomfortable/slightly painful, so may start looking forward to nightly massage myself!

funbun, I have spd (hence one of the reasons for the above) so you have my sympathies! Ae you getting help for it? There are supports you can get and apparently osteopaths can work wonders. Mine isn't severe if I'm careful so I'm just taking it easy.

How cool is that Blik site? better hadn't show my dp or he'll have us with little pacman style men all over the walls as opposed to my cute farm animals.

kiteflying · 14/06/2007 14:05

TT, you might have to give an online tutorial after Betty's instructions. I have read the blurb someone posted a link to a few weeks ago and still cannot work out how what is being suggested amounts to "massage".

I have also volunteered the other half for this job in the hope it may lead to better things being on the agenda

jem1969 · 14/06/2007 14:09

I bought some 'special' oil for THE massage from the same place as the hypno CD's. I seem to recall there are very graphic instructions that came with it . I'll try and remember to find them in the mess at home and post them if they look useful.

Annie75 · 14/06/2007 14:15

Ooh - found some useful instructions from Babycentre. Think I've been doing it wrong - thought a bit of gentle rubbing would do the job and lovely though it was, here's some more specific advice :

It may help to try to increase the elasticity of your perineal muscles by doing daily perineal massage starting at about the 34th week of pregnancy. To do this, put some vitamin E oil or pure vegetable oil on your fingers and thumbs and around your perineum. Place your thumbs about 3 cm inside your vagina and press downward and sideways gently until you feel a slight tingling. Hold this stretch for about two minutes. Now gently massage the lower part of your vaginal canal back and forth for about 3 minutes. When you are in labour you can try perineal massage and warm compresses to relax your vaginal muscles.

Blimey...

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 14:25

Try it during labour...... how about bllx !!!

Annie75 · 14/06/2007 14:30

Yeah, somehow I don't think that'll be top of my list of Things to Do...

Washersaurus · 14/06/2007 14:33

Ha ha haha hahaha ha, they must be having a laugh

kiteflying · 14/06/2007 14:33

I think the warm compresses are recommended during labour for when the baby is crowning. it helps relax the muscles - if there's time of course!

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 14:34

Yes, exactly. I mean, I'll be busy in my state of extreme relaxation and self hypnosis visualising flowers blooming and opening. I'll have no time for having a bit of a fiddle with myself with some olive oil that's for sure...

OP posts:
kiteflying · 14/06/2007 14:35

I see those hypno classes are already paying off for you then TT!

Annie75 · 14/06/2007 14:37

Having said that, all the birthing stories in the Ina May book talk about using massage oil during crowning to prevent tearing. That'll give a distraught DH something to do (mawhaha).

Annie75 · 14/06/2007 14:37

Oh yes - how are the hypno classes going TT? Worth the money?

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 14:41

Oh yes Kite, very much so - especially as I'm SOOOOOO good at them....

OP posts:
kiteflying · 14/06/2007 14:56

Janet B's suggestion for the pain of labour is to chant to yourself - my baby is moving down and my body is opening. I liked that. It makes the pain seem like something that should be happening and so doesn't need to be fought against, but I kind of like the pretty flowers opening of the hypnotherapy better! We can all dream.

tokentotty · 14/06/2007 14:57

Well Annie - I'm not sure. didn't embarrass myself as much this week with my failure to complete basic 'mind over matter' type stuff but it did get a bit embarrassing when it came to the "so have you listened to the CD at all" question....

TT: Yes, although I did fall asleep during it, is that ok ?
TT's DH: Me too, although I do remember her doing some of the colours.
TT: Eh ? What colours ?
Teacher: It's called a RAINBOW relaxation. Here's the script.
TT: Oh, seems like I didn't make it past the first paragraph then doesn't it.
Teacher: It would seem not. Perhaps you could keep trying....
