Lovely to hear about all the newborn cuddles on this thread. Grin

@Alice0606 it's my first too, I know just what you mean about everything feeling like something!

@shutupanddance1 I'm glad baby has dropped for you, hopefully it won't be too much longer now!

Afm, I had reduced movement again yesterday, second time. The trace looked healthy but because I'm 2cm dilated they asked if I wanted to induce. Shock

I'd prefer to give baby time to get out on her own terms, so have got a scan later today to check everything looks OK and if so will continue on until the situation changes. I reckon it'll be fine, hopefully, but was pretty taken aback by the offer to induce!

Watchingmasterchef · 06/06/2018 07:25

@addy How many weeks are you now ?
@alice it’s my second but I am feeling very much like I did when it was my first ! Yesterday I thought I was in labour because of back ache although keep reminding myself - you definitely know when you’re in labour ! And if you don’t at first , you will ! I think am nervous because I want my c section to happen and second babies can be quicker so I’m watching signs like a hawk and feeling like a massive attention seeker

ClareB83 · 06/06/2018 08:46

I had something like morphing while in hospital but after that just paracetamol.

@Shutupanddance1 good news that baby's dropped.

Cookie1831 · 06/06/2018 13:08

For those that have tried colostrum harvesting did it bring on many tightenings? I only started doing it properly yesterday after a few half hearted squeezes in the bath for the last week and collected a few ml but last night and today again when I have done it have been left with quite a lot of discomfort does it get less the more your body gets used to it? I didn’t try it with my previous DC as seems to have only become popular more recently x

Lali1 · 06/06/2018 15:27

@Cookie1831 the midwife at bf wirkshop mentioned that harvesting colostrum can make uterus to contract so I don't think it will get less , but rather more...alsi mentioned not to do it more than 10 min at a time... for same reason.
I didn't try yet as I don't want to bring the birth date closer.
Hope this helps.

Addy2 · 06/06/2018 15:52

@watchingmasterchef I'm 38 weeks.

My midwife didn't recommend colostrum harvesting. What's it for? Good news is that scan came back clear as expected so no need for induction yet. Grin

Northernbeachbum · 06/06/2018 18:55

Well we're home and have mainly relaxed on the sofa since. It's so lovely to be back. I'm pretty sore but dp isn't letting me do anything really so fingers crossed for fast healing. DS is adorable though so I'm happy just cuddling him all day Smile

@dinosaursatemydaffodils I hope all goes well tomorrow for you

Great news @addy

@shutupanddance oooh baby will arrive soon then hopefully

Shutupanddance1 · 07/06/2018 04:57

@Northernbeachbum sounds lovely and exactly what I did when DD1 was born!

Have my 39 week antenatal appointment today, excited as I’ll have a scan for a quick check to see what baby is at in there! It’ll be the first appointment that my DH misses tho, he just couldn’t get time off work as he’s dealing with a rather large issue this week. I don’t mind but I know he feels disappointed - I’ll have DD1 with me tho so I won’t feel lonely!

Cookie1831 · 07/06/2018 07:26

Yeah I know it can bring on BH but these seem to last hours only doing it for 5-10 mins max am not sure if will continue or not, ah baby cuddles on the sofa sounds lovely x

Cookie1831 · 07/06/2018 07:27

@addy it’s to have a little reserve built up for baby in case it struggles to latch has low blood sugar is in NICU etc xx

Elpheba · 07/06/2018 08:04

How much colostrum have people been aiming to take in? I've got 4 x 1ml syringes at the moment. Would I take it all in? If I get more out before baby do I stockpile that at home? Am aware you only get 24 hours once it leaves the freezer (my labour was longer than that last time!) and I'd be devastated if it had to get chucked after the effort of getting it out!

Flyingfruit · 07/06/2018 09:48

@elpheba our hospital said you label it all with your hospital number and name and the date you expressed it and they have a freezer that they put it in.
I’m impressed with how much you’re all able to get it’s taken me 4 days to fill a 1ml syringe Confused

ElizabethLemon · 07/06/2018 10:12

I’m also impressed with the amount of colostrum you’re all getting, well done. After my c section when ds was in scbu my midwife came and milked me (😅) for about 40 mins and only got about a third of the syringe.

TMI... I’m having some poop issues. I was able to go twice while still in hospital but haven’t been since we got home on Monday. Tried last night but it wasn’t happening! I’m taking one dihydrocodeine tablet a day as well as iron so I expect that’s what’s causing it. I’m drinking about 4 litres a day but does anyone know if I can get something BFing friendly over the counter?

Watchingmasterchef · 07/06/2018 10:22

Elizabethlemon
Fibrogel is just natural ingredients and should help counteract the iron etc

Northernbeachbum · 07/06/2018 10:40

@ElizabethLemon I've been eating almost fruit and veg exclusively (only for that reason) and it's working well with a fybrogel too.

Elpheba · 07/06/2018 10:45

It is definitely coming faster with practise. First syringe took two hours over a few days to fill. Then took advice about a bath and actually expressed in the bath and onto a spoon and it was soooo much quicker. Took 20-30 mins to fill one syringe that time.

ElizabethLemon · 07/06/2018 10:55

@Northernbeachbum I have been eating a lot of bread and cheese 😒 so that probably hasn’t helped!

Thanks masterchef. I will get some fybrogel!

@Elpheba that’s great, well done. And yes the hospital should have somewhere to store your syringes, just pop them in a storage bag with your name, the date etc..

Justanervousmess2018 · 07/06/2018 11:32

@ElizabethLemon I can't say I'm not craving other foods like mad....it's been torture. Fybrogel isn't tasty but definitely does the trick.

jadeward89 · 07/06/2018 11:44

Thank you everyone for your congrats. We have named her Indianna Willow 😊 We got home Tuesday evening but I had to go back yesterday for my Anti D injection somehow in the rush to make sure Indi was breathing properly the blood that was taken from us both got mixed up (she was born in 1 push so was in a bit of shock and though she was breathing she needed a touch of help to have a big breath, that was the longest minute of my life).
The big kids are thrilled to have her home and are already arguing over who gets to have a cwtch.
Hope you are all doing well and babies are settling in. Good Luck to anyone having their babies soon and congratulations to anyone I have missed (not getting notifications for some reason) 😊

Justanervousmess2018 · 07/06/2018 15:35

@jadeward89 what a lovely name!! Glad the big ones are loving having her home

hoopdeloop · 07/06/2018 15:38

Congratulations to all that have had their babies, hope you’re all enjoying snuggles and managing to get a little sleep!

I’m only slightly jealous of you all Wink
Midwife has agreed to start the sweep process because of my SPD, so hoping that with this being my second child, my body is a bit more responsive as I needed five wth DS1

Cookie1831 · 07/06/2018 17:29

Aw great news jade
I managed 6ml over 24 hours haven’t done any today but planning on getting some syringes tomorrow I think any amount is good!

Alice0606 · 07/06/2018 18:53

Awwww, newborn cuddles sound so lovely! I’m desperately looking forward to mine, but despite being 40+1 bump seems to have other ideas.

I had a bit of back pain on Tuesday and was woken early yesterday by a few contractions, but then they stopped. I had a sweep done yesterday, apparently my cervix is starting to soften and she could just get a fingertip in. Absolutely nothing since though. No spotting, no show, no contractions and bump still hasn’t dropped. So frustrating just waiting!

Local policy is sweep at 40 weeks, repeat at 41 weeks and book induction for 41+5. I’m hoping he arrives before we get to that point.

Anyone else overdue yet?

SparklesandBubbles · 07/06/2018 19:28

@ElizabethLemon I just ate quite a few prunes and dried apricots. Did the trick for me and I didn't need anything else.

@jadeward89 - gorgeous name for your little girl. Bet you are glad to be home and that your bigger children are loving having cwtches with their little sister. Sounds like it was a super speedy birth (even quicker than mine and I only had 2-3 contractions before he came out!)

@hoopdeloop sounds positive about your midwife starting sweeps. I didn't have one with DS1 but they seemed to help get things moving with DS2.

@Alice0606 good luck with the sweeps. Google acupressure points for starting labour. Your DP could do the ones round your heels and ankles. I had 2 sessions of reflexology and I think it really helped.
