By the way I just read this which could be useful for those just had their babies: sarahockwell-smith.com/2012/11/04/the-fourth-trimester-aka-why-your-newborn-baby-is-only-happy-in-your-arms/

Northernbeachbum · 03/07/2018 14:37

Hows everyone getting on in the heat?

ClareB83 · 03/07/2018 15:09

Wearing just my underwear in a darkened room hoping cranky babies will go down for a nap.

We're in Scotland so it's bearable. What's not is that dd sleeps wonderfully during the day but wakes up every 2 hours without fail during the night. I am so tired, I'm currently letting ds make "snowballs" out of drafts of my last essay (or at least I hope that's what he's using).

Northernbeachbum · 03/07/2018 15:26

Haha i did that yesterday morning @clareb83

@dinosaursate you must be exhausted!!!

DS is starting to have longer awake times, im not entirely sure how to entertain him, he loves the mirror at the moment so just letting him admire himself Blush but he gets cross after a little while (bored?). Does anyone have any ideas?

ClareB83 · 03/07/2018 17:27

I play boopy nose quite a lot. They like contrast, so black and white patterns. And pulling funny faces. Tummy time and time on their playmat or bouncy chair. But pretty much 30 minutes is their limit on anything that isn't eating sleeping or cuddling. At twin club they do manage an hour but with top up cuddles.

Hello, can I join? My baby girl, firstborn, due July, was born 18th June had a week hospital stay and struggling with washing and the heat.. I get panic attacks in bathrooms (my waters gush broke in my bathroom before baby engaged so my ideas of a waterbirth went out the window) but am enjoying being able to wash my feet in the garden in the middle of the day. Apart from that I'm so happy to be home and my baby girl is so strong. I was planning on a natural birth but after I was induced had gas and air and and epidural, then pushed her out with the help of an epidural. I'm so proud we avoided forceps as it was close as I was exhausted. She had no fluid for a long time but didn't need an incubator, just phototherapy for jaudice.

ClareB83 · 07/07/2018 08:37

Of course @Embracethechaos, welcome and welcome to the world for your baby girl!

Welcome @embracethechaos and congratulations hope you are both doing well 😊

Watchingmasterchef · 09/07/2018 18:42

Hi everyone ! Heat is awful !! Anyone else finding baby feeding ALOT in the heat? Underwear all round here and lying on floor in front a fan . Pretty hard to entertain 3 year old especially as can’t put him in paddling pool when just me and baby as too hot outside for us. Lots of CBeebies I’m afraid but tell myself it’s not forever and I’ll make it up to him :(

jadeward89 · 09/07/2018 18:57

@watchingmasterchef wish I could get away with being in my underwear but I don’t seem to stop atm. Indi is just awake more during the day, still having a bottle every two hours even when it takes her over an hour to finish the first one.
She is 5 weeks today, don’t know where the time is going. She rolled from her front to her back the other day too (I couldn’t believe it but she did it a couple of times and i got it on video too) hope all are well 😊

Watchingmasterchef · 09/07/2018 20:27

5 weeks old and rolling ?! That’s crazy ! She must be verystrong and healthy. Mine is 3 weeks and baby acne just starting to clear up a bit , good head control and more and more eye contact. Enjoy him so much !

Embracethechaos · 09/07/2018 22:10

My girl isn't 3 weeks, is allready sucking her wrists/finger/thumb and picking her nose! This evening has been cooler and I've enjoyed more cuddles after feeding as when it was hot I was putting her in her cot a lot as we were both too hot and sweaty. Breastfeeding is going well but if I'm too slow she gets her hands in the way and has scratched my nipple a couple of times. She always had a great latch and its amazing to see her getting milk using her head and hands to massage my boob. Her nails are less sharp than when she was newborn, I couldn't bite her nails off but filing has worked well.

Northernbeachbum · 10/07/2018 12:01

@jadeward89 5 weeks and rolling, wow youll be chasing after her in no time

Its so much cooler here today so both DS and i are much happier. Usually i love the warm weather but its not the same when you cant chill out in an outdoor pool uninterrupted

On the whole DS is being a star with eating and sleeping but still having a few cranky times a day that can last hours (usually in the day thankfully). Im getting driving signed off tomorrow which will be a life saver as it will make him fall asleep in no time

Shutupanddance1 · 10/07/2018 17:31

Hi everyone

Coping here in the heat - I have AC tho so it’s easier for me - however most of the classes/mums and tots groups have been cancelled for the summer so DD1 is a bit fed up being inside.

Baby is waking 2 times a night for feeds atm which I feel is pretty good. BF is going so well, only had a few days of pain but it’s been pretty smooth sailing, she’s such a good baby Smile. Although my mum has finally went home today (she came before I had DD2) so I may fall apart next week Grin

Jonsnowscodpiece · 16/07/2018 13:44

Hi everyone, can I join? Smile

DD2 was born 8 June, I had an ELCS after a prolonged labour with DD1 (4) ending in EMCS. Although this time I developed a migraine on day 2 and nearly had to go back to hospital as it can be a complication with the spinal which requires treatment, luckily I got better on my own.

Other than that all going well, managing to breastfeed this time which is nice!

Hope everyone is doing ok! Anyone using a sling? I've hired a Caboo to try out which is pretty good actually

Embracethechaos · 17/07/2018 07:53

I went to a sling meet up yesterday. You can hire slings but I didn't. I've been using the pram as I've had dizzyness and migraines half my pregnancy and in the weeks after. My baby is 4 weeks today and I feel ready to carry her in a sling. However I only tried on one £70-50 sling which I loved but not worth the cost. Might go to another meet up and try on a caboo.

ClareB83 · 17/07/2018 09:02

Welcome @Jonsnowscodpiece!

I think Amazon Prime Day has some good deals on slings. It's in til midnight tonight I think.

jadeward89 · 17/07/2018 09:34

Hi @Jonsnowscodpiece 😊
I’ve been using a ring sling that my mum made for me when I had my first and another she made for herself that was passed on with DS2. I love the slings but they did take some getting used to when I had my first but now I love them 😊

Shutupanddance1 · 17/07/2018 11:47

Ditto - I’ve been using a ring sling and I have a structured carrier as well for when she’s bigger.
I’ve found that taking out the pram etc is such a faff that I’ve only used it when we went to shopping centre

Northernbeachbum · 17/07/2018 14:18

Im using an ergo baby adapt, as hes been growing it has been getting easier. Id love to have a caboo as well as i watched a demo in jojo maman bebe the other day and it did look so simple but DP has put a ban on me buying other carriers/slings (i bought and then sold a few before sticking with the ergo adapt.

Ages ago someone on here was talking about reusable nappies, we're looking at doing that now and just wondering on brand suggestions? Some of them have such lovely designs and im trying not to be swayed by that Blush

Embracethechaos · 18/07/2018 07:48

I've got littles and bloomz. They have pretty designs and help with my babies nappy rash. I got one bambino mio but I prefer littles and bloomz. However, at 4 weeks old she now wees out the side of them when feeding and lying on her side. My girl does seem to have a huge bladder and save up her wee until she's comftable. I've heard lots of mums wait till babies are older, the reusables to swamp her at the moment. We use both, she can curl up in the fetol position better in disposables.

Flyingfruit · 18/07/2018 11:31

We are using reusables. We have close pop in newborns which are nice and slim and just like a disposable really. Because our guy was big we are also using some birth to potty nappies, tots bots all in ones which are good but take ages to dry. And bumgenius elemental day which are a pocket nappy and are my favourites. I also have some little lambs but they seem massive on him.

Northernbeachbum · 18/07/2018 14:36

Thanks :-) how did you decide what brands to try? I love the close pop in colours. Are birth to potty the way to go?

Flyingfruit · 19/07/2018 12:12

@northernbeachbum if you go on the nappy lady website, there is a questionnaire you can fill out and she tells you what she recommends for you. That’s where I started then I just added a few I liked the look of!
