Hi All - sorry hope you don't mind me starting a new thread but my laptop won;t let me put a message on the other one - I think cause it is so long!!

Anyway glad you are all ok - Pandabear - think it is quite common for you not to feel baby if you are active all day - if I have a really busy day I get worried and then I sit and relax and he goes into overdrive - its grosse sometimes like I have an alien inside my belly!!

Have midwife appointment today just routine but am going to ask if she thinks baby will be huge - everyone on hols acted like I was ready to give birth and were stunned when I told them I had 14 weeks left but then again the BA lady asked if I were pregnant when we checked in and all the mumsnetters I saw at last meet up did not tthink I was huge!! I haven't put on anything other than my big bump and inflated boobs though so thats a relief so far!!

Sam if you still have the UTI try to drink as much as you can - cranberry juice or flat lemonade are supposed to work well.

Tonic water is still keeping the reflux under control to an extent and other than clicky hips and being sooooo bloody hot all is ok inthe Twinkie Pregnancy so far.

Going to check out the pool tomorrow when I have my 38wk appt. I will look out for plug sockets, got to have some music!

I've got horrid crampy pains again this morning, just hoping nothing is happening. My ds who 99.9% of the time works from home has gone out to a job 2hrs away today. Trying not to worry myself in to labour, my last labour was only 4 hours from start to finish so a bit anxious about him being away....I need to get a grip!!

Eidsvold I think I would lie down and die in 35c! My internal furnace is raging now and it's not even sunny!

Riebee · 20/10/2004 09:19

Did I say my ds works from home?!! as you may of guessed I meant dh...Doh pregnancy brain!

arwenevenstar · 20/10/2004 10:13

I am hoping for a waterbirth. I wanted one last time, but it was occupied and by the time it was free, I was ready to push and they wouldn't have got me in in time!!!

I picked up my TENS yesterday, there is no gas here, so was feeling a little nervous that if (BIG IF) I went early and was caught out, it'd be epidural or nothing!! (Bad epidural experience!!)

Still, other things to occupy me today, our boiler has been leaking water everywhere overnight thanks to the tiler that came yesterday and doesn't know his red valves from his green!!!!!!!!!!

So, one cellar swimming in water, one leaking radiator causing my office carpet to be ruined and half a day later (all managed in pigeon French too!!) and the only sodding waters that break are the boilers!!!!!!

Ironic eh.......still, something to laugh about later

..........oh AND I had to cancel my reflexology session cos I was waiting for the plumber!

Still, worse things happen at sea.......albeit it feels like I AM at sea today with all this water

arwenevenstar · 20/10/2004 10:15

oh and PS..........you can laugh, it's okay, maybe it'll keep our spirits up!! I can see a great Giles cartoon in my head!!!

arwenevenstar · 20/10/2004 10:30

oooh, I suppose I might still get my waterbirth eh? only in the cellar!

webmum · 20/10/2004 12:41

38+3 here and nothing moving, but I'm happy, as the house is full of builders and the longer the baby stays inside the better.

On the negative side, dd1 managed to get german measles, even thought she had the MMR 2 years ago!!

Stuck in the house all week, with the builders, and had to skip yoga and probably aquagym as well!!!

At least Im feeling well....

PandaBear · 20/10/2004 13:35

Hi All - 37 weeks today and feeling achy all the time. Does anyone else have sharp pains underneath their bump, and in the pelvic region? Don't know whether that means baby's head is engaging or just that it's the joys of the last few weeks of pregnancy. I finish work next Wednesday, and can't wait. I have no desire to be here anymore but if I'm at home I'm on my feet for longer than at work so it's probably best for me.

Finally started to get the baby things ready and my hospital bag, scared me witless!!! Glad to hear you're all ok - if a bit fed up.

rosies · 20/10/2004 14:10

bunny, so is it diagnosed as athletes foot? i would suggest tea tree oil... pure, not any of the body shop blended stuff. tea tree is safe to use undiluted on skin conditions, good for spots and the like. at your stage in pregnancy and the amount you will be using, its ok to. you can make an ointment of it, use e45 lotion, get a small jar, like those small individual jam jars. i would suggest making up 15ml, adding 6 drops of tea tree. apply morning and night.

so long as the infection is fairly localised and you explain that to the therapist and why you want treatment, i am sure it can be worked round.

yes, acupressure has techniques too but i am not as familiar with them, although i am studying acupressure. trouble with studying is that they tell you pregnancy is contra indicated (which in reality, it isnt). acupressure works on the yin and yang principles of upwards and downwards energy... so there are points that can help induce labour.

i was trying to get a complementary health forum started on MN, so that questions and answers dont get so lost!

rosies · 20/10/2004 14:16

arwenevenstar,

as i am trained in maternity reflexology, i work the whole foot during pregnancy... your uterus, ovaries, pituitary etc etc, all still need working and hold important hormones that help balance the system.

riebee,

dont worry about not liking your feet being touched... if its because they are ticklish, let me assure you reflexology uses a firm pressure that does not tickle. i expect its more because you perhaps dont like touching feet so cant imagine how anyone can? feet are brilliant to work on and pregnant ones are so fascinating

bunny2 · 20/10/2004 17:50

rosies, a complementary health forum would be good. Thanks for the info on tea tree, I have a bottle of it so maybe I'll try applying it directly to the nail. It really isnt the prettiest foot in the world but I expect reflexologists have seen worse!

Twinkie · 21/10/2004 10:58

Ooohhh they are gong to give me a sweep on the 3rd if nothing has happened by then - have also been put down for a water birth - am getting excited but a little nervous now!!

Does anyone else have strange pains down below - not lump contracting but right inside sort of pains??

OP posts:
eidsvold · 21/10/2004 11:07

me Twinkie.. strange feelings down in my pelvis....... backache and very strong braxton hicks on occasion... period type pains too.

Riebee · 21/10/2004 11:43

me too twinkie- have had lots of pains low down like period pains. yesterday had sharp pains in pelvis that felt like baby was poking my bits.

have seen Midwife this morning and she said it's just babys head pushing down, she said she could feel my bump tightening but cant say I've felt it much. I'm 38+3days according to her wheel thingy.

Gingernut- checked out the pool room...you were right no plug sockets, they have got a portable CD though so thats ok, think I'm going to try the pool, just hope they don't nee to use the seive for fishing out you know what!

Discomonkfish · 21/10/2004 14:04

Hello ladies, I've only recently found this board...I've been going on to babycentre.co.uk. I'm due on 16 November, I posted a question on another topic and Flossam mentioned I might like to chat with everyone else due around the same time. Hope you're all feeling ok.....this is my first and I'm starting to get really scared about the birth now....

Twinkie · 21/10/2004 14:12

Discomonkfish - I am on my second and am a bit nervous but to be honest I didn;t think having DD was the worst thing that had ever happened and it is true that you forget it as soon as they are passed into your arms although I do remember wincing a bit when they were sticthing me up but was just too mesmerised by her by them to really take much notice of how much it hurt.

I think the best thing to do is say it has to come out somehow and be completely open when it comes to your options - never discount anything - you could be a really brave woman who has nothing or a woos like me who has everything twice but no matter what you have an how it goes try and relax, enjoy it as a momentous occasion in your and DHs life and do not think you have failed if all goes tits up and you have to have any sort of intervention.

It will be fine - am soooo excited!!!

Riebee · 21/10/2004 14:32

Hi Discomonkfish- I'm new to mumsnet, only discovered it a few days ago and I'm already addicted

I'm on my 3rd baby so it can't be all that bad!!! having said I am still nervous about the birth (EDD 3rd Nov) It's been 7yrs since my last ds and I am with someone else now so it all feels quite new again. Can't wait though!
Just make sure that the midwifes know exactly what you do and don't want, things don't always go to plan but at least they will know what you prefer and will do their best to stick to it.

gingernut · 21/10/2004 14:50

Hi all, I did get the tummy bug and was feeling pretty rotten yesterday. dh was a star, took a day off work and took ds out for the day. Feeling much better today so hopefully the worst is over. We have decorators in at the moment, doing dining room, hall, stairs and landing, so there is no escape and we need to keep ds out as much as poss.

Discomonkfish, Twinkie's right, when the time comes you just get on with it. I wrote a birth plan so they midwives knew what I was aiming for...in the event it went pear-shaped but ds and I were both OK at the end despite the fact I didn't get my waterbirth! LOL at your waterbirth in the cellar, arwenevenstar .

I'm getting occasional sharp pains low down too - think it's the baby's head pressing down a bit IYSWIM.

PandaBear · 21/10/2004 15:03

Welcome Discomonkfish. It's perfectly normal to be scared sh**less about the birth. Me too! This is my second baby, but ended up with a c-section with DD, so I've got no idea either!! I guess the only thing I've taken away with me from last time, is plan plan plan, but don't have any expectations!!!

I'm feeling so uncomfortable today. I'm sure it's just BHs but my whole bump keeps going really hard for a good minute at a time and it's really sore. I'm sitting at work praying that I'm not about to go into labour here. I'm sure that's not going to happen but I would die of embarrassment if it did.

Hope everyone else is OK!

arwenevenstar · 21/10/2004 15:17

Hi,
I'll join in with the pain club too, I am having twinges, but still have 2 weeks to go. Last ds was 10 days over, so am not getting my hopes up although.......ds1 is 22nd of month, ds2 is 21st of month (albeit different months) anyone want to raise a bet for Saturday cos it'll be 23rd of month!!!?? Too much to hope for I think!

Love the name Discomonkfish!! excellent. Don't worry about the birth, I too am a third timer and am so mixed in apprehension and excitement. To be honest I think the excitement etc carries you away and you soon forget.....look how many of us have come back for more!!

LOL at Twinkies "tits up" expression, if my tits ever go up again it'll only be cos I'll be hanging upside down!!!!

We have half term in two weeks time to (yup, great timing) so I imagine she'll come that week, just cos friends will be away and the boys will probably be driving me crazy.....still, if she comes at the beginning of the week then dh will have to deal with the joys of half term hee hee!

Cellar is drying nicely btw!!

Discomonkfish · 21/10/2004 17:33

Thanks very much for the encouragement, I think its just because its fear of the unknown and when I was about 11 I remember them showing us a really graphic video of a woman giving birth. I think it was meant to stop you getting pregnant as a teenager and it certainly worked. It freaked me out that much I've left it until I'm 34 to pluck up the courage....pathetic I know....well it's got to come out somehow I'll see how I cope and if it gets too painful I'll get all the pain relief I can

Flossam · 21/10/2004 21:45

Hello everyone, glad you made it DiscoMonkfish! I'm still busy worrying about my move on saturday to start worrying about the birth really! Its been put to the back of my mind. I know I'm probably bigger than I think and I know that I'm the right size but I can't relate a whole baby being in that bump!!

We have signed the contract and got the keys for our new place yesterday, cleaned up and sorted a few bits out, made this place a complete mess packing today! It's chaos! Got my mum coming up tomorrow to sort us out though. I'm hoping she'll look after me and make things a little less stressful really. Things between me and DP are likely to get fraught but he'll be on best behaviour if she's there!

We might be offline for a while whilest we set up our new internet stuff. Not sure that there is a BT line there, and I'm sure tiscali only runs on BT, so we might have to change providers or have a new line put in... DP looks quite panicked by the prospect of this! So if anything happens with any of you while I'm gone, best of luck to you, can't wait to hear all about it and I will be hurrying back! Speak to you all soon.

eidsvold · 22/10/2004 03:47

ohhhhhh!! Just back from the Gp's where she has told me the head is 3/5 engaged and that it is not long now.... she does not think she will see me at next Friday's appt!!! Thank goodness - heat and humidity back with a vengeance and next week is supposed to be worse!!!! She suspects the strong braxton hicks I had the other day were actually pushing the babe down into position..... time for some pineapple and bouncing on that gym ball!!!!

Hope all is well at your ends!!!

arwenevenstar · 22/10/2004 07:06

Now, that always confuses me Eidsvold. Does 3/5 engaged mean the baby's head has 2/5 left to go (which is what I thought) or as someone recently told me it actually means it is down 2/5 and has 3/5 left (sorry, not wanting to dampen your good news.......the fact your babe is engaged that far is fab and I am really envious) but which is it??

I was told yesterday that I have had an infection at around 34 weeks, something pretty common that you pick up from kissing children etc. There is no cure and for me or baby even if baby caught it too, it is only a problem if you get it between weeks 20 - 26.............so, why tell me????? Surely I have enough things on my mind right now without thinking that there might be a problem for which there is no cure and I couldn't have done anything about anyway, short of avoiding my children!!!! Grrrrrr I really feel that sometimes they give you far more information than you need.

As you can tell I am having a crappy morning. I feel really really tired an heavy today, can't bear the thoought of school runs and entertaining 2 yearold all day. The pressure is excruciating down below and I really just want to go now.

Think I'll join you with the pineapple and bouncing Eidsvold if it is meant to work. I can't wait for her to come now......don't do pregnancy well!!

bunny2 · 22/10/2004 08:41

eidsvold how exciting! Are you going to be the first of us?

Flossam, good luck with the move, I think you sound remarkably calm! I'd be having a fit but then I do tend to over dramatise .

Hi Disco, goo to have you here.

bunny2 · 22/10/2004 08:41

good to have you here!
