Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Has anyone tried harvesting colostrum antenatally? They spoke about it at our breastfeeding class this week and I’m not sure whether to try or not.
Good luck everyone with their inductions-excited to hear more baby news!

SparklesandBubbles · 28/05/2018 10:33

@SylvesterTheCat I definitely find that baby moves slightly differently towards the end (it can't do the major somersaults it did before!!) but in my mind as long as he/she is still moving and having regular moving times roughly at similar times of Day then it's fine. Trust your instinct is the best advice - if you are ever doubting it or just have a niggling 'feeling' things aren't quite right it's best to contact your midwife and get checked.

SylvesterTheCat · 28/05/2018 10:55

Thank you @SparklesandBubbles and @WreckItRach . I have a check up appointment with dr in a week so I'll see how I go until then- I don't have any strange feelings that anything is wrong (and I'm feeling pretty good). It's still moving at the normal times of day like after eating/drinking. Just much smaller movements.

Northernbeachbum · 28/05/2018 12:55

@Sylvesterthecat I've had more internal feeling movements since baby has turned around so his limbs are facing in. Can still feel him but it's different.

@sparklesandbubbles hope today goes ok for you and @jadeward89 I hope things are progressing for you

I'm planning to @flyingfruit just need to get the syringes off the midwife this week. I thought I might as well, my boobs are leaking at the moment so no point wasting it.

My stash of lovely muslins arrived this morning, worth the panic purchase Smile

What kind of bags are people using for hospital bags? At the moment we have a rucksack of baby stuff and a carry on fliggt suitcase for me but I'm not sure if it looks like a stupid amount of stuff. I've been decanting things into a 'just in case' bag to stay in the car but I don't want DP having to travel the 50 mins home and then come back if we forget something

Shutupanddance1 · 28/05/2018 13:12

@Flyingfruit I didn’t with my first and don’t think I will this time either as I plan on EBF like last time. I’ve checked in the shower and I do have colostrum there so that will do for me Wink.

I’ve a small rucksack with the bare essentials for labour and then a roll on suitcase for hospital stay which will stay in the car until I need it. I’ve labelled baby’s first outfit etc and popped them in individual sandwich bags so it’s easy for DH to find on the day.

Northernbeachbum · 28/05/2018 13:16

Hmmm wondering whether to rejig things in that case, having an ELCS so definitely staying in overnight but don't want to look like a fool with too many bags.

hoopdeloop · 28/05/2018 13:21

I have a carry on suitcase packed with stuff and the changing bag with a variety of outfits because we are still waiting to see how long I go and this baby might be huge and not fit in all the cute wee newborn outfits! I’d rather have more stuff than need to send someone to go and get it, especially if a long drive is required

RockinRobinTweets · 28/05/2018 13:24

I have 2 bags at the moment but the hospital advise 4 for an elcs - 2 each for the theatres and ward.

I’ll repack the day before but bags at the moment were packed ages ago for just in case I go into labour.

I need to buy food but not too sure about what to get.

SylvesterTheCat · 28/05/2018 14:29

Yes what to pack for food!?! I suppose fruit is a healthy option but will have to think carefully so I don't end up with a banana-scented baby when the first outfit goes on. Snacks for DH too- I wonder if one would have time to wizz up some sandwiches in early signs of labour.

Having written earlier today about baby not moving much I'm noticing it heaps today. Maybe I've become more consciously aware of it since posting my concerns.

SylvesterTheCat · 28/05/2018 14:33

... a tip I've heard along the way on these June threads (but can't remember who posted it!) is to prepare ice cubes of Ribena as it can be a godsend when you need a sweet pick-me-up when in full labour apparently. Also frozen bottles of water can be very cooling (and you can drink it as it melts). Straws, I've heard, can make life easier too.

Has everyone written their Birthing plans/preferences? (I haven't! Another thing on the must-do list).

Shutupanddance1 · 28/05/2018 14:39

@Northernbeachbum you won’t, you could bring in your main case with you and then leave extra stuff in the boot of your car and send your DH out for it?

@Sylvesterthecat - I’ve got oat biscuits, bag of mixed nuts and fruit, tuc biscuits, and I’ll probably throw in some squash so I don’t get bored of water. I am also thinking about packing some ham sandwiches, I’m sure they could be frozen in advance and lamped in at last minute Grin

Northernbeachbum · 28/05/2018 14:43

We're going to put a cool box in the car with fruit and things like that in. Then cereal bars in the suitcase......this may be why we have so much stuff 🙈I do like the idea of a banana scented baby though @Sylvesterthecat

We have got a variety of sizes of babygrow too just in case. Still need to do birth plan......over 38 weeks so probably should have by now

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 28/05/2018 15:37

I have a giant suitcase. They haven't said to bring a separate bag for theater although I'm planning on asking on Friday at the pre-op. Our hospital try and have you waiting on the post natal ward so my plan based on what the community midwife said was just to grab the things I needed, dressing gown, slippers, hat for baby, nappy once we got there. Will pack a separate little bag if needed though.

I do have a separate bag which will live in the car until baby is here, with a present for ds from the baby and vice versa, more bottled water and ready made formula in case I hit the same issue breastfeeding as I did last time.

I have bottled water as I found last time the midwives weren't great at refilling the jugs and they didn't like you doing it. A couple of protein type bars and clear instructions to dh that as soon as I feel up to it, he has to go to my favourite deli and bring me a giant baguette stuffed with brie, salami and spicy relish, possibly two.

I have written a birth plan but only because the consultant insisted and was going to write it for me if I didn't.

WreckItRach · 28/05/2018 15:57

I've got DH's large gym bag and then a rucksack solely for food and drink. It's so hard because you don't want to look like you're bloody moving in but don't want to be caught short either! I do need to buy a bigger water bottle.

My induction is at 11am tomorrow but my mucus plug has just gone yay!!! So I know it's unlikely but hopefully things will progress naturally tonight, if not at least hopefully I will start a bit quicker when the pessary is in!!
You can have a bath after losing your mucus plug can't you?

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 28/05/2018 16:00

You can have a bath after losing your mucus plug can't you?

Yes. It's only if your waters have gone they advise against or at least that's what I was told.

SparklesandBubbles · 28/05/2018 16:18

So it looks like I am going to be induced. I stupidly mentioned baby hadn't been quite as wriggly so they now want to induce. Of course now I'm on a monitor it's doing blinking somersaults and avoiding the monitor!! I'm not feeling very happy about being induced just yet!! Ahh what to do and say! Advice is I still have the pessary.

Re bags: I bought a v small one with me today. My husband is bringing in a carry on type case with baby stuff in and another bag that has all my bits and pieces in it + I have a snack bag. I've got things like snack a jacks / flapjack mini bites etc. I know there is a tesco across the road so I figure I can send DH out for cold energy drinks if I really need one.

Cookie1831 · 28/05/2018 16:46

Good luck with those getting induced so exciting!
Not ice cubes full cartons of Ribena or juice with a straw they turn into slushes as they defrost yum!
Well my cinema trip was going really well it was empty got a parent and child spot the kids were good until 3 miles from home the 5 year old vomits popcorn everywhere so I had to strip him at the side of the road and now scrub the car bleugh!

RockinRobinTweets · 28/05/2018 16:51

Yay for your mucus plug wreck

Ds arrived 24 hours after I lost mine so I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Are you going to refuse induction sparkles

WreckItRach · 28/05/2018 17:15

@RockinRobinTweets that's the sort of news I love to hear!! Thanks!
@SparklesandBubbles are they inducing you straight away? How are you feeling about it? Good luck lovely.

@Cookie1831 that's awful, poor you!!!

SparklesandBubbles · 28/05/2018 17:38

I've been having extensive conversations with the midwives here and I keep more what if questions. I'm just waiting to now see the doctor. They do want to induce me straight away but I'm waiting to speak with the doctor first. At least then I hopefully will have a 24hr period for contractions to start. Keep your fingers crossed for me ladies! x

@WreckItRach hope losing mucus plug kick starts things for you. I lost mine on Thursday night and have had a few tightenings but nothing major. Everyone is different though so keeping my fingers crossed for you

ElizabethLemon · 28/05/2018 17:56

Rach, my labour started within 24 hours of losing my plug so fingers crossed!

I asked the midwife this morning whether we would look ridiculous coming in with a suitcase and she said not at all, most people do. We will be getting a taxi at 7am to go into the hospital, along with the wheely case I’m going to feel like I’m going on holiday! The midwife also suggested my husband pack the bag so he knows where everything is, shutup’s sandwich bag idea is genius!

Re movements, I definitely feel fewer big kicks and swooshes. It’s mainly a kind of pressure moving across my tummy and then some internal bigger movements. Sometimes I can see him moving and not really feel it at all. I went in yesterday because I was worried he hadn’t been very busy and the trace was fine, the midwife said to always go in though. The community midwife said this morning that she’s predicting a 9lber 😨 if she’s correct then no wonder the movements are as big as where is he going to move to, he’s taking up every inch of space available!

ElizabethLemon · 28/05/2018 17:58

Aren’t as big* 🙄

WreckItRach · 28/05/2018 19:21

Good luck @SparklesandBubbles !!

@ElizabethLemon I have my fingers crossed then!!
How do you feel about a 9lber? Will they let you go over or not because they are predicting a bigger baby. I've heard they come out easier when they are a little bigger!

Northernbeachbum · 28/05/2018 21:16

Looks like so many babies are on a mission to be may babies :-) hope you get things the way you want @sparklesandbubbles

ElizabethLemon · 28/05/2018 21:47

@WreckItRach I’m booked in for a c section on Thursday so won’t be pushing the potential 9lber out! It’ll be a shock if he is that big though, my 1st was just over 5lb.

I don’t think he’s going to fit into all the lovely clothes I bought earlier on in my pregnancy 😢!
