Well after spending hours getting tightnings every 5 minutes for about 3 hours last night (lying down, standing up, sitting) I finally fell asleep. I think it brought the baby down because this morning for the first time I stood up and my right hip didn't feel like it was going to fall out of place. If you had talked to me around 8pm I would have told you last night was the night though. I'm going to try to go back to bed, even though the sun is up. I hate being awake at 6 am with no energy to do anything.

Scooter--Yup my babies stay in the nursery at night. I don't get how hours after giving birth women can possibly rest with a baby next to them. Here we can choose to have the baby room in with us full time, part time, or just brought for feedings. We aren't allowed to leave the baby alone for anything at our hospital, so if I have to go to the bathroom I have to call a nurse to the room to stay with the baby! With ds he was with me all day, and brought to me for feedings at night, actually the last night I just told them to give him formula so I could get a decent nights sleep. Some people think it's mean to send the baby away, but I say if there are nurses that are paid to take of the babies, I should take advantage of that and get as much rest while help is there. I'm starting to understand why no one has homebirths here. Hospital stays are like vacations.

MKG · 01/05/2007 11:03

By the way my boobs are are leaking massive amounts of stuff.

BefnalBub · 01/05/2007 11:17

Morning, morning! yay - first day of freedoom today!

AbbyLou · 01/05/2007 11:42

The pains are back! I've cleaned the hallway and kitchen and don't know if I've just overdone it or what but I hurt like mad now. On the left hand side of the bottom of my bump I have a permanent pain, a bit like a stitch really and the lower backache is back. Dh just popped home between jobs to make a couple of phonecalls and has gone to work very hopeful of some time off later today. I've told him it's wishful thinking. One thing I have noticed is that over about the last 12 hours my bump has gone absolutely rock solid all over and I remember that from last time.
SOH please tell us the whole story of your escapades yesterday. I don't mean to laugh but it made me smile at the thought of what might have happened. You have a certain way of putting things which is really funny.
Last thing, for some reason I must have had my mind elsewhere whne I posted my stats. My EDD is 12th May, not 10th.

cameroonmama · 01/05/2007 12:33

Hello to all on the first day of May, now its really hotting up, c'mon babies out you all pop! And that includes all you supposed-to-be April babies.

TYG I am in awe of your shopping expedition, go girl.

April I just cannot believe how some people can be so thoughtless, the same with your bus ride LW. Though that said when we spent some time living in London when dd was small, a lot of people helped me with the buggy down the stairs on the tube, all kinds of different folk too..

MKG I can't believe how many freebies you have managed to get and frankly your hospital sounds like a right cushy number.

Lg&t, please keep calm, no labouring before next friday perrrrleeeaasse.

juliewoolie · 01/05/2007 12:34

Abbylou I had that last week bloody hurt like hell - but it only seems to happen when Ive overdone it. So I suggest you put your feet up switch on the telly and have a rest.

AbbyLou · 01/05/2007 12:45

Just what I've done Julie! It's easing off a bit but just feels hard and tight if you know what I mean. The baby has got hiccups again, it's the fourth time in about 24 hours. It feels realy weird.

notsolilKel · 01/05/2007 12:58

oooh I am so happy - got my secret shower gift!! So who is it up in Leeds then?? C'mon, show yourself..... My baby's going to be the most stylish one in Nero with that bib/blanket combo - funniest bit was I nearly wept when I opened the card with the little baby feet on it. Something about DS' wee little feet and toes just makes me melt inside. Sounds like a fetish I know but really they are just so wee and sweet...

ALou, STOP CLEANING THIS INSTANT! I went into labour 24hrs after cleaning my kitchen floor last time (3 weeks early!).

juliewoolie · 01/05/2007 13:07

I know exactly what you mean Abbeylou. There was something on her a couple of days ago about hiccups and babies coming. I think you just need to chill out for the rest of the day. The housework can wait finish watching daytime dross on the telly and then have a bath. JUST RELAX!!!!

twelveyeargap · 01/05/2007 13:25

Very much regretting said shopping trip. Could barely walk by bedtime last night with the pain in my lower pelvis. Have either shifted the baby down (good outcome I suppose) or have just brought on late SPD (more likely). Hardly slept last night. Was huffing and puffing so much and whining in pain with every movement that I woke DH up numerous times, which I feel bad about as the poor sod has to do a day's work.

Plus, to add to that, when I was "admiring" the dresses from Boots I discovered the stupid cow at the cash desk had left the security tags in not one, but two items. AND they're the tags with the dye in them, so I can't break them off. SO . My local Boots is tiny. I don't think they have those kind of tags on anything. Means I'll have to go to Brent Cross or something.

SKYTVADDICT · 01/05/2007 13:30

What a pain TYG. I had to take some rollerblades back to a shop last year and they set off the security alarms on the way in!

Thanks LG&T but I think we will leave the sweep up to the consultant, LOL. I would be up for it but I really cannot see DP having a go! I will mention it to him though.

AbbyLou · 01/05/2007 13:52

Just had a sleep for about 50 mins and feel a bit better. My sciatica has come back with a vengeance though. I've stopped cleaning but keep glancing sideways at the Everest-sized ironing pile.....
TYG how annoying about the baby clothes. It's a wonder you didn't set any alarms off. Sorry you're not feeling great today either, I guess we've just hit that wall now!!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 01/05/2007 14:23

Hello everyone. WELL IT'S HERE!

May that is NO baby yet.

Oh, SOH you sound like you had a day of it, you are soooo funny though, I just love the way you put things. I think you should write a book. One of those No Crap, this is how it is type pregnancy books, I'd buy it, it would be hilarious.

LG&t, Waters or Wee!!!!!!

Why do I keep expecting my waters to break meaning the first sign of Labour. Hey! They were broken for me with ds and with Maddie they broke just before I was ready to push so why on earth i'm expecting it to start that way this time I have NO idea.

Elkedee
lg&t is right, I will rave about my Induction, It was FANTASTIC!! I am a no pain Labourer though, so I go as far as I can and then have a peridural. So it's birthing with a good magazine for me. dd was over and done with, In arms, little pain, easy peasy within 2.5hrs of starting Induction.

BUT............. I am in France and there ways are very different here, they have a no frills, no fuss, no crap attitude here. Suits me down to the ground but it wouldn't suit many in the UK who like the whole Au Naturel, active birth business. I would imagine if they want you in at 7pm in the evening then they will go the pessary route over night, this can be a bit long winded, but go with the flow, try to rest at the beggining, do what you can and go as far as you feel comfortable with.

There, did I rave enough.

TYG, I hate it when shops do that, it's such a waste of time and energy going back because some nupty had their mind on something else at the time. I had a barny with Mothercare after ds was born as I bought 2 newborn vests, they removed the tag part but left the inch long metal Pin part in the neck of the vest. Fortunately I noticed them just as I was about to slip the vests over his head. I wrote to head office about it as I was so stunned that the staff were not MORE careful with baby and children clothes items. I got a letter of appology and a £20 Voucher in return.

Hope you're next SKY, you've done your time now, the buzzer has pinged. Common baby SKY.

scootermum · 01/05/2007 14:35

largegandt-see earlier post re, well the post...still quite teary over it!Thankyou so much!

SOH-Blimey lady-please be careful on the river..sorry you couldnt make it yesterday though..

That is annoying TYG-same thing happened to me in Mothercare with my new change bag-when I took it back for the tag removal I laid it on thick about having to trog all the way back there and they gave me a ten pound voucher-might be worth a go..(must confess, I was passing anyway but pays to be a bit cheeky!)They are lovely things in Boots though...

You are right MKG-there is no rest with the baby next to you-or someone elses baby next to you after you've given birth-but I dont think they ever give you the nursery option over here-not in my hosp anyway...in fact on the second night in hosp, when I got to sleep for the first time since having dd, I got shaken awake by an angry midwife because I hadnt woken up when DD did and she was crying!Felt very told off and was then bolt awake till we went home and I finally collapsed and slept for the first 5 hours we were back..it would be good to have the option I think, wether you used it or not...

Did you enjoy your leaving pizza Befnal?

All that cleaning sounds suspiciously like final nesting to me Abby!

Did your DS have the MMR yesterday Lilkel? If so how was it?DD has hers next week and I have managed to wind myself up into a total panic about it, even though I know that she needs it and the liklihood of ill effects isnt that high..just pg paranoia going into overdrive I think..she is having it either way as we cant afford the seperate jabs and im sure she will be better jabbed than not..

Feel dreadful today as am really made up with cold-have been sitting out in the garden reading Grazia to try to sunbathe myself into recovery..

Must go to see midwife now-DH coming-first time he has been to an appointment with me since the scan so will be a novelty...

tata for now..

Pinkjenny · 01/05/2007 14:57

Hi girls

Back from my meeting. Boring as predicted. Then I nipped to Mothercare to take back all the stuff my colleagues bought me. They also bought me a dressing gown from Debenhams, which I don't need I wonder if they'll let me exchange without the receipt in there?

Scoot - Finish work on 11th May, I think Juicy and I are the last ones standing when it comes to work. I work from home most days though so its not so bad for me. Having said that I am out every day this week!

Why oh why do I have no leaky norks and no Braxton Hicks? Is she destined to stay in there forever?

Am I the only breechy left?

Questions, questions. I'm off to wait by the window for the ice cream van. Fancy a 99er.

Hello to all that have just joined our beautiful thread. xx

MKG · 01/05/2007 15:03

Scooter,

Wait a minute . . .. You are in the room with other people and their babies over there?! And there is no nursery?!
How do you ladies sleep in a hospital over there?
Scooter I am so at that midwife on your behalf. If it were me I would have told her to f!#k off. Here (at least at my hospital) the nurses are very supportive of making sure that us mommies get good sleep with ds one of them told me "this is the last full nights sleep of your life"

MrsJaffa I am with you on the induction I loved mine. I didn't do the whole pain relief thing, but I loved it, and although the idea of being hooked up to monitors and IVs isn't that appealing to me, I would do it again. It was nice to be told "ok we're breaking your waters, ok you're in labor" there was no sitting at home wondering thing.

notsolilKel · 01/05/2007 15:06

Hey Scoot, the jab went fine yesterday thx for asking Tho I gather you won't see any side effects till 7-10 days such as mild rash or glands swelling a bit while antibodies are formed. IMO the jab is a modern necessity and not enough proof for me that separate jabs are worthwhile so I'm quite happy even if there is a slight reaction - better than catching the real disease!!

However DS had raging tooth pain this morning - had to leave playgroup with him as he wouldn't stop screaming. And you know it's bad when a biscuit just makes them cry harder... poor lad. TG he is napping well today!

23 days and counting for me (if we last that long!) whoopee!!!!

p.s. Pinkjenny still at your fab shower and thoughtful mum providing party frock. Lovely, lovely, lovely!!!

AbbyLou · 01/05/2007 15:06

Just woken up again. I came downstairs after the first sleep, couldn't decide what to do, sat on the settee and I've just woken up again! Oh well, I must have needed it. I have left the ironing now but will try to get it done in front of the telly tonight. My belvoded Chelsea are playing and I certainly need no excuses to stare at Jose Mourinho all night!

notsolilKel · 01/05/2007 15:09

MKG, yeah it's a little 3rd world over here compared to the US when it comes to giving birth! No separate rooms with telly, spare chairs, coordinating furniture, etc etc. And no nurseries. Just a mix of midwives (some fab, some horrific).

I managed to escape some of the madness by getting an "amenity" room (single room) last time, which was especially grand because I ended up in hospital a full week and think I would have gone bonkers if I'd been a typical 'ward' (communal) room. And DS was taken care of for me, because he was in Special Care. I'd have given anything to have avoided that of course, even if it meant no help whatsoever!!!

Lwatkins · 01/05/2007 15:10

HAPPY MAY EVERYONE
