BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT

Just to say I was induced on 30th April, but held out for a May baby (just to stay on this thread!!)
Baby boy was born after about 2 hours of active labour, tiny as predicted, 5lbs 15 oz at 39 weeks but healthy and doing well. Still trying to agree on a name.

ShowOfHands · 06/05/2007 15:25

Another one! Congratulations westendwoman. We're all going to have popped by mid-May (apart from me and MrsJB who are going ridiculously overdue together). Again, more details required.

MKG, I tried the just having sex method and after a year and a miscarriage I decided to find out exactly why I couldn't get and stay pregnant. Got pregnant on the second cycle of trying with Fertility Awareness Method. Had no idea that your cervix turned blue during pregnancy- just read about it online. My God the things gynaes, midwives etc have to be faced with. I hope it pays well.

MKG · 06/05/2007 15:28

Westend--Congratulations!!!

How many do we have left, and has anyone heard from Jessinwa since she moved?

SOH--It's a gross blue color too. It looks all bruised and nasty. I made the mistake of looking online and I got actual fotos and again I was grossed out.

Daisybump · 06/05/2007 15:44

Just crashing from June and looking for babies......MKG...you need to put out a 'call' for lulumama or Mars.....or call your midwife. Don't know if this is normal, but it might well be if you're ready to go...hope this is it for you and good luck.

congratulations and good luck all round Can't believe it'll be us lot soon enough!!

aprilmeadow · 06/05/2007 16:10

Only been to AT once SOH and managed to get lost! DS is being fairly good as a big brother. Most of the time he leaves her alone but when he is in 'sh**e' mode he gets in her space and wont leave her alone. He does give her lovely cuddles and kisses.

aprilmeadow · 06/05/2007 16:10

Congrats WEW!! Have added you to the birth stats!

AbbyLou · 06/05/2007 18:48

Hi everyone, still here. I can't believe how many posts I have missed. I'm not even going to attempt to catch up now so will start again from scratch here.
MKG I know I had some irritation down there last time. I didn't look but when the mw examined me she said my veins were very swollena nd blue which is normal as more blood rushes to the area. Could it be this?

Mrsjaffabiffa · 06/05/2007 19:25

Congratulations westendwoman.

MKG, It could be a veign. Sorry for TMI but I have a good one that goes a lovely bluey purppley colour at the end of my pregnancy. I have read about the cervix changing colour too though but it did say you would need a spectrum to see it?

Cam, I'm so sorry about the plane disaster it is so sad. I will be thinking of your friends.

Lupins, you know where we are to chat. Poor you, stand your ground though, he is being unreasonable and I agree he musn't use the children to get at you. Maybe a few days with your Mum will show him what he's missing.

SOH, I don't think they'll let you on ANY rides. I'd go if I thought I could cope with the walking.

Been to a BBQ this afternoon, tired though now.

Hurray for baby SKY and baby WestEnd. That's fantastic news. Can't wait to hear more.

Thanks for the birth story DrKG. So glad it all turned out ok, despite your setbacks.

MKG - sounds like you might be next! I would try not to worry about what you saw "up there", given that we don't normally see it... From what the others have said, it sounds like it might be normal, from what the others have said. Lots of blood around the area could deffo make it look blue, couldn't it, if there are lots of small veins.

Lupins, I'm glad you're thinking about going to stay with your mum. It will do you good to get away from the situation to have a think. Just feel so for you.

Cameroonmama, my thoughts and prayers with you and your firends' families. How very sad.

Walls of nursery finally finished... DH still has the woodwork to do. Dying for it to be done so I can finish the curtains and set up the room.

SOH, sounds like some serious nesting from you too! I'm list making as well. "To Do ASAP", which included things like getting the "birth room" ready and putting all the things needed into a box so they're easy to find. I also have a final list of things for my labour/ hospital bag so that everything for me is in one place and can be easily packed up in the event of transfer. Then there's a list of things for DH to do when I go into labour, like putting the hot water on, as you mentioned and finally the Birth Plan. I feel a lot calmer now that I just have the lists done. I don't think I'll go into labour until I feel everything is ready. M/w is visiting on Tuesday so I aim to have it all done tomorrow. Hopefully it will be the last time I see her before the birth.

scootermum · 06/05/2007 20:36

Or and this is pretty gross so apologies in advance-it is possible to get piles there, MKG,specially when PG...grim I know..

Let me know if you need anything Lupins-you do sound very calm but I know it cant b easy..have you tried telling him you really need to talk to him-no shouting but a proper discussion-he is out of order messing Willow around like that though..

Cameroonmama-im so sorry to hear about your friends, that is really awful..

congrats to Westend..lovely news..now if I were a bettig woman In woul lay odds on SOH, or MKG next what with all the nesting going on...

I wouldnt go to Alton Towers SOH-its knackering at the best of times, plus there are always tons of ques for the rides-bad enough when you can go on them, but no fun at all if you cant go on at the end of it!They wont even let you on the tea cups in your condition!

I need to do my birth plan I think..and re check my bag as no real idea whats in it..

Dont worry re the name Pink,DD was Daisy till a week before we had her, then DH changed his mind..I had been calling her Daisy since week 12!So she ended up Lily which hadnt even been on any of our lists at all!

I have just got back from a BBQ as well Mrs JB-all the rage today!Spent most of my one on all fours as BH murder still today.Luckily it was friends from DDs antenatal class so they were very understanding!
Perhaps we can up the anti Mrs JB and April and add Lily into the sale, 3 for 1?She has been a terror this aft!

scootermum · 06/05/2007 21:18

Have just seen on another thread that PreggersPoppet might be in labour-so it might be another May baby before long-she was on here the other day wasnt she?

MKG · 06/05/2007 21:20

Hey still here, definitely not a vein and definitely not piles this was this was the cervix.

Internal tomorrow, I'll get down to the bottom of it. See ya all

scootermum · 06/05/2007 21:32

Intriguing MKG..let us know what they say then..I aint going near any mirrors I tell you-just in case-have always been a bit squeamish..

anneme · 06/05/2007 22:44

Congrats Sky and Westendwoman - looking forward to hearing more...

Cam - thought about you when they said that plane was from Cameroon. how awful, we are thinking of those families.

Lupins - someone said yesterday (can't remember who) that your partner might be feeling depressed/finding it hard to come to terms with double fatherhood etc. Whilst that does not excuse his behaviour at all it is worth keeping in mind so that you do not lose everything over a short term issue iyswim. Having said that, your priority has to be to yourself and the children - Arlen's birth is still v recent and you need to look after yourself. Going to visit family might well be the way forward. Good luck and we are all here - remember that.

Lwatkins · 07/05/2007 00:24

Hello all my lovely May mums

I'm home, I'm home, I'm home! Wow, feels good to say that lol - have waited long enough! Loving it, can't begin to tell you all how much happier and relaxed I am now. Just getting my room all sorted now with all the crap I've filled it up with from uni. Didn't realise just HOW much stuff I actually had for the baby, wardrobe is full.

Have a m/w appt at 10:30 tommorrow morning, then mum is taking me to buy my pram. Getting a Silvercross 3D, oooo can't wait I just want to play with it

Had my family all round today for a Birthday Sunday lunch. Got bought a beautiful bag from my Gran, and loads of money from everyone else.

Congrats to SKY and WEW on the arrival of your babies! I am definitley no where near ready to pop, no signs, no niggles - nothing. Not minding at all now though as I'm at home and just so much more comfy. Don't seem to mind being pregnant whilst at home - doubt it'll last.

I'm already close to killing my sister. Came back to find my wardrobe of lovely non-pregnancy clothes empty. Little madam had nicked them - ALL! Including 2 pairs of £65.00 jeans that I worked my arse of for last summer. Oh we had words!

Hope your all keeping well and babies are behaving. Did have a quick skim through and just wanted to say Lupins I'm sorry about your dp. Have a big (((hug))) and I'm thinking of you. Cam, sorry to hear about your friends.

Catch up soon lovelies, LW x

largeginandtonic · 07/05/2007 05:23

Morning all, im up at some ungodly hour that by 4pm i willl be regretting....

Just couldnt sleep, was woken up with a BH and feel a bit sick. Sure it is all last weeks of prg niggles and nothing is imminent.

Lupins....Gunnislake is not far from me! Really hope yoou do manage a visit to your mums, im sure it will shake him up and give you time to rest and relax. Make sure you tell him exactly why you are going though. I cant wait to see you, im sure the baby will need to be forcibly removed from me in 2 weeks anyway so will def be able to meet. You can deliver him right?

Cameroon im so sorry about your friends, you must be on tenterhooks waiting to hear for sure. Sending you lots of love and hugs.

Westendwoman.....fab news on your little one arriving! I take it it took a little while to get things going then all went crazy?

Pink my last 2 were not named for ages, im so rubbish normally. Went to bed calling them a different name each night for a long time.

Lwatkins glad you are home, hope you managed to sort all your work out before you left. Naughty wee sister you have jean stealing like that, obviously you will need them back washed and freshly ironed to wear the day after giving birth

MKG it could be your cervix, it looks like avery thick white ring normally but can take on a bluish tinge. It is very firm and like pushing the end of your nose. You should not be able to see it with a mirror and sitting on the toilet though. If the baby's head is well in the pelvis then you either have an anterior\posterior or central cervix. Posterior can be almost impossible to reach, central easy to reach and anterior very easy to reach with 2 fingers just inside the vagina, but still tucked away from view. It could be a vein, they can go very blue and swollen in pregnancy, but are really just a swollen area. A cervix is unmistakable, get checked out tomorrow for sure. It could be a prolapsed cervix, it does happen. Usually after birth and post menopausal women. Varying exercises are used to tighten up the muscles and restore it to it's rightful place. Im sure it is just a preg thing and all will be well with good pelvic floor exercises after this baby is out! He will come out eventually you know.....

Need a cup of tea and a bowl of cereal i think, hope i dont wake the kids up, it's quite nice being down here on my own. Im one of those weirdos who likes the 3am feed with the baby as we get time all to ourselves

Crazy i know, i know

Westendwoman congrats on your new arrival, well done on holding on till May

Well have spoken to dp, I think the realisation finally caught up with him, I gave him a few home truths, anyway the long and short of it is he said he always loves me and i told him he has to play a more active role in the family otherwise whats the point, what a turn around, he offered and went and did the shopping (gave him a list) he spent lots of time cuddling Arlen even winded him after instruction, sat and watched tv with me anf told me to sit with him so we could cuddle up (oh my god affection) and i got lots of kisses and cuddles , he has even gone and collected hedge trimmers from his mate (our hedge is taking over the path i have been asking for 6months, so it seems the spare room idea done the trick, I do agree with some of you that there is some sort of depression and he did have an appt the other day but didnt get back from work on time so could be worth making him another one, thanks yo all of you, dont know what i would have done without you xxxxxx

LGT I will come and visit anyway, are you staying in plymouth for sometime, dont have the money to get down there atm, cant really ask uncle if its not urgent what with aunt have chemo, would love to meet up, I really love it down by the hoe in plymouth, ice cream van down there does these lovely ice cream clotted cream and fruit thingys mmmmmmmmmmmm!!

Right off to catch up with rest of thread, enjoy the rain all xx

drkgpink · 07/05/2007 08:13

MOrning all, again recently finished early morning feed, I still can't believe how good he is at the mo, last night again half an hour each side woke up to play then put himself to sleep with his baby mozart from prepregnancy, woke at 5:30 and guzzled for an hour and ten minutes. My mum keeps telling me he's going to long, but each nappy he does at least 2 wees over us and he poos every feed so I'm sure he's getting enough, am i right??

Thanks for all the messages re photos, likewise dejags your LO is gorgeous aren't we all lucky!!!

I have tried to catch up a bit.

Lupins - I'm not 100% whats been happening but it sounds rotten, i'm sure you've got the strength to get through.

Lwatkings - glad you're home, must have been rotten in hospital for that long, I was fed up after 1 night. The silver cross 3D is lovely my friens had it in blossom. I have the silver cross linear freeway which is simliar but the carrycot is separate and I am very happy with it.

Sky and WEW congrats on your births

Gingerbear - fingers crossed stays cephalic, pleased you reminded me about mile for maude its on the calendar now, haven't got any sponsors so think I will but something from shop. Recently found out that one of the twins I delivered in barnsley last year died of cot death at 16 months, the mum worked with my dh. Poor girl I can't imagine it let alone having identical boy twins and losing one. I remeber those sleepless nights well the good news is I'm getting more sleep now

Camerron - I'm thinking of you and your friends.

HOpe thats all for now,

Yesterday was mega stressful for me, went to a bbq on sat at KatzG, she rang me yesterday to tell me her DD1 had just started with chickenpox. At over day 7 and with me possibly not immune this is worst case scenario and joshua may need immunoglobulin otherwise if he gets the pox at 9 days old it can be fatal. My mum says i had 3 spots when my brother had them but the GP wasn't sure at the time. We're waiting for my blood results to know if he needs treatment. We're well within the time limit though as the earliest he could catch them due to viral transmission is wed and my results will be back tomorrow, I have spoken to the prof personally and if he needs drugs they will be blue lighted to the house last thing tues night so we are still within 24 hours and it guarantees him no to catch them as its artificaial immunity. Oh the joys and stresses of being a doc. however I'm pleased i was as the Mw on call tried to bullshit me as it was sunday and tell me that as he was out now we just had to watch for spots - WRONG WRONG WRONG thank god I knew the royal college guidelines and told her otherwise if I hadn't been on the ball i hate to think what could have happened. I am thinking carefully about what to do as everything will be fine but if i hadn't been a medic that mw could potentially have made a fatal mistake - should I complain??? Then I hung up on my mum as she told me thats why they don't recommend taking babies out until after 7 days, she didn't seem to understand that its largely irrelevant as if I haven't had chickenpox the timing doesn't really matter that much. Talk about laying on the guilt trip!!!! needless to say she rang back but told me to calm down as my milk would slow down _ hilarious me calm down i was calm until she put her awe in!!! all fine now we were bound to have these discagrements, she keeps telling me to offer him cpoiled boiled water as I'm over feeding him, is this a thow back to the 80's when i was born??

GOing to have a much better day today to distract from waiting for results, going to the jewellers, we have picked out a lovely platinum and diamond crucifix for my born present - oh how lucky he's an april babe not may - diamond's instead of emeralds!!! and he says I can have a silver charm bracelet too maybe the tears yesterday were worth it!!! (musn't let him see this).
We bought joshua a loverly wooden train and letters spelling his name from the international market in sheffield yesterday. WE have a service of thanksgiving arranged for may 20th, my birthday so also getting ideas for presents form other people as they keep asking and as i have a huge family don't want to end up with 50 money boxes if anyone has any nice original ideas please let me know.

Another mammoth post from me, I am a gas bag.
better go shower and put washing on.

Have a good bank holiday monday all.

XXX
