Thought I'd start up a new thread as the old one has run out of space.

My results after the nhs screening came back 1 in 6 chance of down syndrome, so I took the Iona test on Friday which I had to pay for.

Has anyone else had high risk results?

bobcat85 · 04/02/2018 08:33

@petwepanwendy Happy Birthday for yesterday.

@Sparklesdontshine when do you get the Iona results? Hope you don't have to wait too long.

12 weeks today, feel like I've reached a milestone. Scan tomorrow, starting to feel nervous but at least it's at 8.30am so it's out the way early.

I should have the results mid week so not too long, I just can't stop googling and worrying Sad

bobcat85 · 04/02/2018 09:08

@Sparklesdontshine I know it's easier said than done but stop Googling. You'll only see the negative stuff and it'll make you feel more anxious.
I hope everything is ok and I'm thinking of you.

@Gem173 that sounds like the perfect day!

@CumbrianExile I wouldn't even need to be pregnant to get that annoyed, except it's usually over the dishwasher. The whole 'if I keep doing it wrong, eventually I won't get asked any more attitude' winds me up.

@Bobcat85 Snap - I'm 12 weeks today, scan on Wednesday. It's a massive milestone. Now I feel like we can start telling people, I really don't want to. It's weird.

@sparklesdontshine Sorry, no experience with anything. Keep focusing on the 5/6 chance all will fine. We'll all be keeping our fingers crossed for you this week.Flowers

gkeen369 · 04/02/2018 11:08

I hit 12 weeks yesterday and it does feel like a milestone but also an anticlimax as I still feel sick and getting more and more tired everyday!! My scan is Wednesday too so It'll be a busy week for us! Good luck and looking forward to seeing your scans xx

SpriteGirl · 04/02/2018 11:14

@Sparklesdontshine a friend of mine came back high risk on her NHS screening so paid for a Harmony test (same sort of thing as you've had I think?) and the results came back fine and her baby is fine.

I had my scan on Thursday, the on screen measurements were low risk I just have to wait for the combined results with blood. They said if it's high risk they'll call within 2-3 days if it's low I'll hear in the post so I'm hoping the phone doesn't ring!

Gizzymum · 04/02/2018 11:36

@bobcat85 @Kiki275 I'm 12wks today too but scan on Tuesday at 10.40.

StrawberryLemonade · 04/02/2018 12:26

sparklesdontshine Sorry you have this worry :( keeping everything crossed for your results. I’m not sure what Iona is but assuming it’s a blood test? Were you offered any other nhs testing?

CaffeineDragon · 04/02/2018 12:32

@Sparklesdontshine Will keep everything crossed for you, but just to say if it is - friends and someone from my other MN group have had downs babies and they are amazing little characters, but I do understand it's a lifetime of additional stresses, support, worries and care required. Either way, we are here for you. x

milney25 · 04/02/2018 14:12

@Sparklesdontshine I'm sure it's going to feel like a long few days, I hope you have some other things that will help occupy your mind. Will be thinking of you the next few days Thanks

spydie · 04/02/2018 18:36

Hi ladies, hope you are all well. Not been on here for ages, been really busy. Have tried to catch up... really sad to read about the losses, love and hugs to you lafies. Hope you are ok too #sparklesdontshine.

I'm now 13 weeks and been feeling much better. Had scan on Monday, lovely to see baby! Feels so much more real. Also think I've felt first little pops a couple of times led in bed in the morning.

Had results back from NT yesterday, downs was 1 in 300 something. Classed as low risk, but also have low levels of PAPP-A so have been booked in for growth scans from 28 weeks as it can apparently be sometimes linked to poor growth, stillburth or pre-eclampsia. So you know, panicking slightly! Have googled too and seems it's not that uncommon but slightly worried as it can also be linked to DS. I'm seeing consultant at 20 weeks due to previous birth, and also worried since I want to do absolutely everything to avoid an induction, and have now read about woman being induced due to slowed growth etc. I guess it's just more to be anxious about Confused

BertieBotts · 04/02/2018 18:47

Next scan/appointment is on Wednesday, so I'll join FB after that all being well :) Sounds like a few of us have scans on that day.

I've arranged to pick up a baby bath and changing table after that if all goes well too. Bit scary! But exciting. I think I might ask DH if he has time if we go after the scan to a baby shop and buy just one small thing that we've picked out just for our baby. That would be cool since the other things are more practical really and it would be nice to have something personal and feel like this is really a person.

Sparklesdontshine · 04/02/2018 19:28

@spydie what was your Papp-a result?

spydie · 04/02/2018 20:18

@sparklesdontshine it was 0.27.

I'm probably being silly, but my consultant appointment has been booked right after my 20 week scan appointment, as in 40 mins later. I'm not sure if that's just genius organisation by the NHS or intentional!! Need to step away from google.

Sparklesdontshine · 04/02/2018 21:22

That's what I'm like, been googling all weekend Blush.

Gizzymum · 04/02/2018 22:40

@spydie that's genius NHS organisation. I've never known a consultant be on time so at least your wait shouldn't be too long... 😜

bobcat85 · 05/02/2018 06:16

Morning everyone, hope you all had a good weekend.

I've had a terrible sleep, been feeling sick all night and DS cried a few times last night as he's poorly again.
Scan in a couple of hours, feeling nervous but going to try and be positive.

Goodluck @bobcat85
Wonderful results @spydie

Think I’ve eaten my own words ladies, threw up this morning before breakfast.. really hoping it’s a one time thing and it’s not gunna be reoccurring! Hate throwing up! Anyway hope you have a lovely day, gunna talk to boss to get some time off for my scan :) xx

peterpanwendy · 05/02/2018 06:54

I thought I had ms bad early-mid jan. despite my anti sickness pills I've consistently been getting 'sicker' and for the past week I've thrown up almost every day. I have now ran out of my tablets but not going back for more as they clearly weren't doing anything! I have been sick twice this morning and am just about to leave for work... feel so deflated just want to lie in bed all day. Cried for ages last night because I'm sick of feeling sick, I know I signed up for this but I am so emotional 😅

Gem173 · 05/02/2018 07:03

@peterpanwendy
Really hope it gets better for you, it sounds awful! I’d be calling in sick!

Babydreaming · 05/02/2018 07:21

@spydie I feel for you with the PAPP-A! I had borderline low in my last pregnancy and have exactly the same in this one. It was a constant worry last time so I was upset to find myself in the same position again.

I would love to say that I had a massive baby but his growth did stop a little later in pregnancy. He had a medical condition (unrelated to PAPP-A) that could have resulted in this though. Having said that, we made it to term with no induction! He was a bit small at 6lb15oz but within normal range!

PAPPa is really confusing as it doesn’t necessarily mean anything but can mean lots of things if you see what I mean! Fingers crossed it doesn’t mean anything for us this time!!

Babydreaming · 05/02/2018 07:23

Also, the consultant I was working with told me that she doesn’t usually see severe problems unless PAPPa is less than 0.25!

misshannah · 05/02/2018 09:31

Oh my the irrational anger has hit me today.

I'm a team leader in HE for PGT programmes, which includes timetabling, but that is being taken from my role in April and centralised - BIG YAY. The other team leader for UG programmes has just started and knows my manager from way back - interview was a farce, but hey ho she was appointed and is supposed to be wonder woman. As timetabling is being centralised this wonder woman won't do any despite the fact she has timetabled before, so really it would be easy for her. So im expected to pick up on my own timetable and hers in the interim.... Wonder woman came in at the top of her grade, me at the bottom despite me having 15 years experience in HE and 7 of those in the same job, but elsewhere (I've worked at 6 Universities). Am i right to be angry as she is paid £11k more, but isn't picking up? OK 2 months but still - she is wonder woman. Even if she just booked some rooms and didn't do the actual timetable (as it's pretty much done anyway) that would make my life easier.

GRRR the hormones are raging today.

spydie · 05/02/2018 09:41

@babydreaming oh no sorry to hear you have it too. What were your levels, if you can remember and don't mind me asking?

My DD was only 6lb 4oz at 41+2 and we didn't have any of this, it was the most uncomplicated pregnancy ever!! But I'm not exactly huge so would make sense.

I'm trying to tell myself it's just precautionary... but with anxiety over the delivery anyway and having to see consultants about that, its just fuelling more anxiety!! And yes I read that levels .1 and below were the ones to really worry about, but (why you shouldn't Google!) Everything I have read anecdotally seems to be from ladies reporting theirs as .3 or .4 Confused

Who is organising the FB group btw??
