Due at New Year....anyone else?!

kerm · 24/04/2007 12:36

Have just found out that I am pregnant. Blimey! A bit nervous/scared! DH says scared is too strong a word. Might be from his side of things but I think that I'm scared!
Due 31st Dec or 1st Jan, can't quite work out whether cycle is 29 or 30 days.
First time, so not too sure what to expect!
Anyone else due at new year?

Skibump - how did yours go?

Beller I'm in a good position with clothes in that I've lost a bit of weight since last summer - enough for all my clothes to be annoyingly loose. But rapidly returning to a comfortable fit now!

Plummy - a friend asked me to babysit tonight and I had to say I couldn't as I needed to go to bed at 8:30!

Pbirdy that scan sounded FAB.

I'm a SAHM so no work to tell. We told the kids though. Dd announced that she was going to tell her class in 'show and tell' so I guess her teacher knows too now! Ds (2) pulled up my t-shirt and peered in my belly-button for about a minute before shaking his head and saying "noooo!" in a "you're joking aren't you?" tone of voice.

Bettymamma - idiot boss, huh?

Awen - hassle those midwives! Keep phoning them, you're pg, you're allowed to be a nuisance.

Welcome Lozza! How many weeks were you when you mc'd? I've also heard that once you've seen a heartbeat you're a lot less likely to mc (I'm hanging on to this theory, anyway).

fruitful · 05/06/2007 15:02

Off on school run now.

plummymummy · 05/06/2007 15:41

Oh fruitful - it's excellent news that you saw the heartbeat am so pleased for you. The low implantation - did they give you any stats or idea at all what chances are of successful outcome? I heard a heartbeat increases successful outcome to 90%. Surely that is a very good percentage.Terrible bedside manner - I agree Try to rest (difficult I know)til the next scan. Keeping everything crossed for you.

PBirdy · 05/06/2007 15:57

Fruitful: I have also heard that the most important thing is to see a heartbeat and the chances are good once that is confirmed. I understand that you feel nervous - the sonographers' bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired. It seems to be the way with a lot of health professionals.

That said, I hasten to add that we have some lovely health professionals on this thread!

I have my fingers crossed for you that all goes well.

fruitful-scan sounds lovely!! Hope all is ok and not too low? whats placent previa?
welcome Lozza- yep...all scary, i havnt really had any syptoms..so sometimes wonder! Although boobs are still sore..and tummy expanding...so looks ok!

Bettymamma · 05/06/2007 16:20

BWmum - I am vjealous of your boss. My boss is normally nice. (I forgot to mention he and his wife can't have children so I know this can't help.)

PBirdy - have you tried to say again. I always cry when I tell people - hello!?

Fruitful - fantastic that there was a heartbeat! Can't believe the insensitivity of the sonographer. I wonder how these people sleep at night. Vaginal scan - ohh that doesn't sound fun. Have you got a date for the next one?

Beller - some people just have no symptoms. You often hear about women who just didn't know for months. Oh how lovely!

plummymummy · 05/06/2007 16:49

Slick addition pbirdy I make no apologies for some of these "colleagues". I remember being told that it was good news that my hcg was back to zero as my body had cleared it (the pregnancy) thoroughly. I stared at the nurse in shock and said "actually I quite liked having the hcg and didn't want my body to clear the baby". She looked at me as if I was on another planet. I suppose I was just a number.

plummymummy · 05/06/2007 16:52

Fruitful - looks like you and I are having scans in the same week (week commencing 18th).My son's birthday is on the 20th so I hope it's good news as I don't want to be on a downer on his birthday.

BWMum · 05/06/2007 17:09

Fruitful I'm really glad you saw the heartbeat - that must some encouragement (someone else mentioned that once the heart starts beating the risk of losing it goes down?). I hope everything is fine when you have your next scan, will be holding thumbs for you.

fruitful · 05/06/2007 17:16

My next one is on the 20th. Going to find someone to look after ds and make sure dh comes with me to hold my hand!

people reckon that the mc risk after seeing hb at 6 weeks is 12%. Goes down to 2% if you see a hb at 8 weeks.

Beller, placenta previa is when the placenta grows over the cervix, which means the baby can't get out and you have a high chance of a major haemorrhage and premature birth. Ds was born at 34 weeks and I lost 4 pints. Was hoping not to go there again!

I've been googling the risks of low implantation and have now completely scared myself out of my head and need to go and hide under my duvet.

fruitful · 05/06/2007 17:16

Where is skibump?

MamaMaiasaura · 05/06/2007 17:27

Fruitful - fab you saw heartbeat. I had placenta prevaria with ds and as pregnancy progessed placenta moved up and out of the way. Think the sonographer sounded like a right cow. Try not to worry as the placeneta has plenty of time to move up as your uterus expands.

Thanks for all advise about midwife. Chickened out of calling again and guess what... She called She said booking in appointment in 2 weeks on Thursday and then will book in NUchal Fold. I am also allowed to have baby at hospital I want apparantly, will ask about home birth tho very unlikely.

Am knackered today. Did 4 hours of iron, had kitchen ceiling re-plastered to lots of cleaning. Been feeling sick too and unable to get to all my lovely food

MrsMcJnr · 05/06/2007 19:21

Hello to everyone and welcome to any newbies I missed!

Jenswish · 05/06/2007 20:58

Hey everyone,

I think my due date is changed. Me and DP tried to work out when last AF was, and I reckon it was on 31st March which makes me now 9+4. (ish) and a due date of 4th Jan Which means my docs apt will be on 12+2 (ish) so I'm gonna call docs and see if they can get me in earlier. Just so I can make sure I'm in the system and see if they can get me an early scan, just cos I'm nervous as hell. (I don't know if its cos of the MC before which just has me nervous as hell) other than sore boobs everything has gone, If I press on the real base of my stomach I can feel something (although it's prob all in my mind)

I kinda feel like by bidding on that little outfit i'm chancing fate, just hope not cos don't think I could cope with getting that through the door if all failed.

Anyway enough of the sadness talk. Welcome to all the newbies CONGRATS

MamaMaiasaura · 05/06/2007 21:08

Mrs McJnr - Fabulous news about your scan

Jenswish - we sound like we are around the same stage 9+3 here. My sickness went for a while. Has come back a bit now. Boobs sore. THink I can feel my uterus too now. Hope you manage to get scan sorted xx

pussycatmomma · 05/06/2007 21:09

just wanted to say fab news mrs mc, will be thinking of you. So great that you got an early scan and got to see the heart beating. I think I wont rest until im further on or like you have the scan to prove it. Good luck everyone.
Hiya Awen, try and stagger the ironing sweetie, 4hrs in one go is too much!!
Apart from feeling really tired (I end up falling asleep for about an hour every afternoon ) and sore, heavy boobs I havent any symptoms.
Its 49 days tomorrow since my last period so does that make me into my 7th week tomorrow or 7 weeks now? the dates thing confuses the hell out of me.
Not heard from midwife yet or seen the dr.
Feeling quite hormonal and a bit weepy still but friend says this is normal. When I tested bfp I stopped taking prozac that same day, and i feel as if i am having a withdrawal effect if that makes sense. Stopped taking it as i was unsure whether it was safe to continue. I may make enquiries with the dr though as I dont need to be feeling the stress of not having my a/d when i have taken them for so long on top of anything else! Any advice gratefully recieved.
love to all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

mummyto2littleprincess · 05/06/2007 21:15

pussycatmomma- your the same as me i wont rest until i have a scan and god knows when that will be iv got to see my midwife on the 13th june im 8 weeks 1 day

MamaMaiasaura · 05/06/2007 21:15

Pussycat - Had put off ironing for weeks . Re the ad's as far as I know (am a MH nurse) they do not really know the effects on the baby. I think what they look at is the benefits of taking them agains the benefits of not. If it means that mum is going to be happier and healthier etc then they may recommend you cntinue. Also depends on dose, they may suggest you take a little less as they ease you off. As far as I know it isnt ever a very good idea to complete stop taking anti depressents without first decreasing the dose. Did your GP or psychiatrist prescribe them? Def speak to them. Hope this helps. x

beller · 06/06/2007 07:51

Mrsmcjnr- thats fab news on the scan!! Great feeling eh, cant wait for my scan..
pussycatmomma- I wouldnt just stop taking them...does depend on what dosage you are on, but i think you should gently cut down? My sister has a panic disorder, and had to come off her medication through her pregnancy,it was good, and she struggled, but i think it depends on the a/d? I would definately go and see the doc? Good luck x
I have the headache form hell today, and feel sick ( havnt had any sickness), just hope its not turning into a migraine Would go home from work, but have a meeting this afternoon that i need to be at...will see how I feel.
Hope everyone is well!
xx

beller · 06/06/2007 07:55

I meant to say..it wasnt good for my sister..but it was different medication xx

MamaMaiasaura · 06/06/2007 09:21

My sympathies beller with your headache. Looking in oneof my many books it said that headaches in early pregnancy often due to fluctuating hormone levels.

beller · 06/06/2007 09:39

I know...went to bed with it last night...woke me up in the night, and still have it...really annoying...has anyone tried for "forheads" herbal stick?

plummymummy · 06/06/2007 09:47

I get headaches when I don't eat. I've got one now cos I haven't had breakfast yet. Pussycatmomma - I don't have much nausea either. I've got fatigue, mood disturbance, sore boobs and hair greasy (usually very dry). I think all pgs vary. I didn't get much nausea with ds and the little I did kicked in around 8 weeks and it was mostly at night. Jenswish - try not to worry unduly. It is so hard waiting though - I agree. When pg with ds my symptoms fluctuated a lot so I don't think you will feel the same all the time. Even when the baby starts moving, some days you feel it more than others. Mrs McJ - glad your temp went back to normal and that you had a good time with your cheeky little nephews Bet your dh was delighted to see the jumping bean

beller · 06/06/2007 09:59

another question? I need to go to the dentist..I have very soft gums, and have to have treatment on them twice a year..now i know I can get free dentistry while pregnant, but my dentist isnt NHS, so do they claim back for it? Or do I have to find a NHS dentist? If anyone knows?? x

plummymummy · 06/06/2007 10:05

I think you have to find an NHS dentist.
