Due at New Year....anyone else?!

kerm · 24/04/2007 12:36

Have just found out that I am pregnant. Blimey! A bit nervous/scared! DH says scared is too strong a word. Might be from his side of things but I think that I'm scared!
Due 31st Dec or 1st Jan, can't quite work out whether cycle is 29 or 30 days.
First time, so not too sure what to expect!
Anyone else due at new year?

Sickness back with a vengeance today

Anyone got any experience of introducing a baby to a family where three cats are very much in charge? I think we'll have some interesting times in 7 months, especially as all our cats are very cuddly, and will miss the attention!

PBirdy · 04/06/2007 14:42

Hello All!

Gosh, quite a bit of reading to get through after being away on Friday and then the weekend! I had a horrific two day work trip to Paris, Eurostar at 7am, straight to the office then straight to a function which was ON A BOAT so I couldn't do a runner (I was so mad!). Not to mention all the french champagne, fois gras and soft cheese surrounding me all night. I finally checked into the hotel at mid-night and then backed up for a 9am meeting. I am thinking that really work needs to be told the news sooner rather than later.

Aaah, getting that rant off my chest has made me feel better! I have my doctor's appointment today - my DH and I are Australian so we are in a private hospital - long story but at least his work pays for it. I wonder if the doctor will do a scan or if I have to wait and book that in else where? I have been feeling really excited about this appointment and now feel really nervous.

Calgary99: my heart goes out to you sweetheart and I am sure that this is a very difficult time. Take care and hope to see you back when you are ready xxx

Barristermum: thanks for your tips for the tube, I will give it a try and let you know how I get on! What sort of law do you practise? I am an employment lawyer (solicitor)

Beller: I am a sleep walker too! Very bizzare that we are. I have also heard that lack of morning sickness means a boy, but then my MIL said that she only got MS with her girls so who knows!? Congrats as well re: setting up a nursery, I wish you every sucess with it.

MrsMcJnr: You are so sweet with your long posts remembering everyone's news. Thank you for remembering my appointment today - I will let you know

MrsRabbit / Pussycat: Welcome to you both and CONGRATULATIONS! I have also had similiar experiences with things on the internet freaking me out, so I am sticking to this website at the moment (oh yes and of course the odd look at other websites!) This chat thread is good and supportive.

Spud01/teenagersagain/iwillbe: congrats and welcome.

gingeme · 04/06/2007 14:51

Wow just had a count up there are 37 babys due next Dec-Jan. Thats way bigger then the Oct 06 I was on last year. My ms seems to be easing a bit now thank goodness. Getting my apetite back a bit too.
PBirdy that was some weekend you had. I hope your resting today.Good luck with your appt today.
Bettymama home births are brill. Will you have a pool too?
What times your appt fruitful? Let us know how you get on.

Bettymamma · 04/06/2007 14:57

oh PBirdy foie gras and soft cheese yum! Good luck with your appointment today. Have just read barristermums tube tip. Always carry water and food with you as well. Having been stuck on a tube 8 months pg for a few hours during the July 7th bombings I would recommend this at any stage!

Bettymamma · 04/06/2007 15:03

You've had homebirths gingeme? how did it go? what was it like? was it scary? I had a relatively easy birth with my dd and am very interested in it (but have been told so many scare stories). The midwife actually suggested it to me as well.

teenagersagain · 04/06/2007 15:07

mummyto2littleprincess- I am 8 weeks & will be having my 1st scan on thursday. I phoned up the fetal care unit myself as I didn't want to wait wks for the midwife to refer me, as she couldn't see me for my booking in appointment until next wk & given my age(42) I felt time was of the essence.
So if you know which hospital you are likely to go to, I'd give them a ring & see what they say.
as for ms, i have had it for 2wks now, although it has got steadily worst...

Thanks for the welcome pbidy, gosh 37 mums 2 be already...what was happening in april/may??

barristermum · 04/06/2007 15:10

OMG bettymamma - how traumatic! I'm impressed you even go on tubes anymore.

Pbirdy, I do criminal law - lots of sex drugs and violence, and mostly on the Western Circuit so I probably pass BWMum hurtling thru Waterloo either end of the day. I live in North London. Mrs McJnr is a solicitor too - don't know what field. Hope your appt went well and fruitful's and plummymummy's too. Was so so sorry to read Calgary's last post. Plummymummy, my doctor told me you would be very unlikely to see any hb before 8 weeks - so it's great others have but don't be downhearted if you don't.

Mrs McJnr - why wobbly day? Are you alright now?

Awen - horrid dreams - I've got very vivid early mornings too - last night dreamt I had baby and went back to work within 10 days as I had some case on and my childminder was calling me saying baby needed me and the judge wouldn't let me leave - woke up feeling guilty about being working mommy without even a bump yet!

Jenswish - good to hear from you again and hopefully in better spirits.

Beller - glad Dad was stalwart - all is looking most optimistic.

birseed - bravo for partying.

And hurrah and welcome to all the newbies.
big hugs all round.

beller · 04/06/2007 15:15

pbirdy- does anything in particular set your sleep walking off? Mine is quite stress related...or anything scary in a book or tv...
Im excited about the nursery, but have now started to panic as i will be doing everything at once..im worries as i dont know where i will be living when beany is due...if i do have enough money (talking to my ifa and dad though, so unfounded worry), and doing all this when becomming a mum for the fist time....Eeeeek, one thing at a time would be better, but not really an option..
Sounds likeyou had a really busy few days, hope you can put your feet up now!
Fruitful- good luck with the scan tomorrow, hope eveything is where it should be

birdseed · 04/06/2007 15:49

beller,
my nuchal fold scan is 20th June. I will be 11+6. should have been 12+3 but they changed my dates when I went to EPU.
What about you?

Housemum · 04/06/2007 16:30

Hi Teenagersagain & Spud - I find the age gap works pretty well with the 14 & 4 year-old - it will be interesting to see how the new one fits in! DD1 alternates between adoring and tolerating DD2, depending on whether or not the youngest is trying to get in her room and mess up her stuff! (Which to my mind looks messed up enough on its own - I think she has a carpet in there under everything else...)

DD2 wants to be like DD1 - she hasn't twigged yet that when DD1 is playing on her Wii she gives DD2 a controller with no batteries - DD2 is convinced she's playing.

Have got nuchal scan date on 28th June so counting down...

Just thinking about birthday plans for myself next year - the big 4-0, but considering I may still be feeding as little one will be around 3 months old, I won't be planning a big boozy one. Have dropped heavy hints (and brochures) to DH about family hotel breaks/Centre Parcs - any recommendations?

Bettymamma · 04/06/2007 16:44

Housemum - CentreParcs very good especially with small babies (and would keep teenagers occupied as well). They have everything there. If you go, try to book a deluxe villa though (especially if its your 40th!) because we were put next to a group of 8 13yr old french exchange students who rampaged every night until 2am unfortunately.

Can we start listing nuchal scan dates! If this is too much just ignore me.

teenagersagain · 04/06/2007 17:00

housemum - I agree with bettymamma, centre parc's are great for kids of all ages, my older ones ( 2 cool dudes ) actually get enthusiastic!!
But, word of warning...we live near the sherwood forest one & it gets pretty booked up, so book soon if it's at a popular time.. i.e.half term hols etc

BWMum · 04/06/2007 17:08

Wow, there are so many of us on here now! Congratulations to everyone who found out recently that they're pregnant!

There do seem to be quite a lot of lawyers too - I'm a solicitor as well, specialise in employee incentives. Had to come out and tell our head of department last week as someone left and they were doing a big work re-allocation thing. I just don't want to be pulling all nighters at the moment so it had to come out, even though it was earlier than I would have liked (we're currently on 9 weeks).

After that, I had a wonderful weekend with almost no MS and feeling like myself again. Then on Sunday I suddenly realised I was feeling fine and started panicking that maybe there's something wrong with the baby. There's no pleasing some people!

My doctor wrote to the hospital about two weeks ago but I haven't heard from them yet about my booking in appointment. I know it's early days, but it's a really popular hospital (Kingston Hospital) and she warned me that if you don't apply early, they won't be able to take you. I'm really worried that the letter will have got lost in the bureaucracy and I won't be able to go there (the alternative is St Helier which I've only heard awful things about). Does anyone know if you can just phone the hospital to make an appointment or do you need the letter from your doctor?

MamaMaiasaura · 04/06/2007 17:09

Strill havent heard from midwife. Is this normal? JUst want to book in for nuchal fold scan and sort out which hospital (homebirth is unlikely unfortunately)

I have already left 2 messages, last one was around Tuesday/Wednesday last week so dont want ot leave another.

Am super sensitive at the moment, easily reading the wrong thing into things and very ditzy. Sorry if i have been doing that here too

MamaMaiasaura · 04/06/2007 17:09

BWmum - Whata professional thread with all us medical types and all you legal ones.

BWMum · 04/06/2007 17:14

Awen - does seem to be! And I think we're quite international too. I've spotted two Aussies (I think), Scots girl in Oz and I'm from South Africa!

Housemum · 04/06/2007 17:15

I'll let the side down then - I'm a stay-at-home-mum! OK, I did work once upon a time, and I have still got my certificate from the Chartered Institue of Bankers that means less than the paper it's printed on...

mummyto2littleprincess · 04/06/2007 17:25

jusr rung up my hospital they dont take self made scans so its up to my midwife who i dont see until the 13th june
i cant wait that long

Housemum · 04/06/2007 17:36

Mummyto2 - Unless you have problems, it's unlikely you'd have a scan earlier than 12-14 weeks. So if you have the MW appt next week you should get one in that time frame. Try to relax and chill (and not think about pregnancy for a week??!!)

mum2sons · 04/06/2007 18:21

Hi again,

Mummytolittleprincess, I had the same problem re scans so booked it privately. I am not sure where you are but there is Pinehills in Hitchin and also in Harpenden in Hertfordshire, both doing private scans. Lots of places in London too. Mine cost £100. Crazy that we cant have walk in EPUs .

Homebirths are FAB Bettymama. Had one with DS2 in october 2004. My eldest was born in hopsital, forceps (totally medicalised against my wishes labour). Will be having a homebirth with this one hopefully.

Also have big age gaps DS1 is 12 and DS2 is 2.8. The hardest thing is when you get the little one to bed finally is not having any "me" time. It is amazing we even got to make this baby at all!!
