Have just found out that I am pregnant. Blimey! A bit nervous/scared! DH says scared is too strong a word. Might be from his side of things but I think that I'm scared!
Due 31st Dec or 1st Jan, can't quite work out whether cycle is 29 or 30 days.
First time, so not too sure what to expect!
Anyone else due at new year?

How exciting, notlong till monday. Have u had a 'dating' scan yet? If they dont see hb it is likely they will book u in again i think.

plummymummy · 01/06/2007 10:56

feels more scary than exciting. Will be thrilled if get hb though.

MamaMaiasaura · 01/06/2007 11:00

sorry didnt mean to offend I understand is scarey - felt scared too but also very excited.

skibump · 01/06/2007 11:00

Plummy - how exciting about the scan, my first was 6+4 and there was a clear heartbeat so fingers crossed you see it (and more importantly that it's in the right place)Emma's diary describes our beans as 'grey and jellylike' Sounds attractive doesn't it ...We have jellybeans! about your visit to the docs - you could always change tho if you don't like what they're proposing (tho it doesn't sound as if the admin would imporve )

Congratualations Mrsrabbit, that's fab

Beller, I think a doula would be a really good idea, that way you get your sister's support as well . Just a warning tho, I had ds just before 38 weeks, completely normal, natural, spontaneous labour - took us completely by surprise (thought the 1st would be bound to be late...)

skibump · 01/06/2007 11:02

Sorry, me too (x posts) Understand it's scary as well

skibump · 01/06/2007 11:03

Awen, how u doing? Has your headache shifted?

MamaMaiasaura · 01/06/2007 11:06

went days ago thanks for asking. Having weird dreams. Norty one and a really horrible one last night. 9 weeks tomorrow. Stillnot heard from midwife.

How are you? You're about 8 weeks now arent you? Cant believe how active you were in your last pregnancy, puts me to shame

skibump · 01/06/2007 11:15

oooh, tell us about the dreams (telling it helps it go away)

Yes, I'm 8 weeks tomorrow. V tired, otherwise all going well & still feeling 'pink and fluffy'

MamaMaiasaura · 01/06/2007 11:20

Norty one was about a very dodgy ex who is seriously not my type anymore

Horrid one was really was mixed up between my ds and nephew getting murdered. Really horrid and realistic. Went back in time 3 times, 3rd time managed to stop it all. Was a man who had a black dog and said that if my ds stayed behind after archery he could have a pet of his own.. first time ds gets killed. Next time nephew stays behind for ds, he gets killed. NExt time i get nephew in car and my ds goes in my friends car. Then it all got mixed up and nephew was actually an older version and was my ds and the younger child was my dd (havent got a dd yet) and ds was protecting her. Really horrid dream.

MamaMaiasaura · 01/06/2007 11:20

8 weeks tomorrw .. little fingers gorwing and elbows and lots of exciting stuff!

plummymummy · 01/06/2007 11:27

Oh sorry - the wasn't directed at you Awen. It was more me musing over the fact that it feels more scary. Encouraged that you and skibump got early hbs. Some hope at least. Skibump - I don't think I have much choice. I will write letter of complaint if I need to though. I just want to get through the first trimester, then I can don my boxing gloves. What annoyed me was when the dr said I will have to be assessed for homebirth (which is what I said I would opt for if the said hospital was only choice)and that the fact that I had ventouse delivery before might rule it out. Surely every birth is different. I've had some pretty vivid dreams too. Erotic ones are good

skibump · 01/06/2007 11:29

, but ok in the end, you saved them, you are a hero

Elbows & fingers heee, think I'm still a bit stuck at 6 weeks as that was when I was last scanned, and I'm still a bit worried that beanie is ok since then. Really should arrange a scan for next week to check

skibump · 01/06/2007 11:32

Plummy, I want a home birth, but have to be refered to a consultant because of my AGE even tho everything went really well last time. Ok I'm old, but still! I heard on the radio yesterday that stress can affect babies in the womb from 17 weeks, so get your fighting gloves on early

plummymummy · 01/06/2007 11:44

How old are you skibump? What does age have to do with it ffs. Surely if you're young enough to conceive, you're young enough to give birth naturally at home. How did they manage years ago before hospitals ffs? As with any woman, I suppose if it's not going well they will transfer you to the hospital but I still don't see what age has to do with it. Unless you are a 60 year old woman who's had ivf.

teenagersagain · 01/06/2007 11:49

Hi everyone,
Sorry to barge in, but new to mumsnet & not sure of the protocol...so hello & congratulations to you all!
I am expecting my 4th child 10th jan ( ds of 17 & 14, dd of 4) & just wondering if there are any other older mum's out there as I will be 43 when this babe arrives?!?
My GP, a very pretty young twentysomething says there are loads more than you'd think....

beller · 01/06/2007 12:23

skibump- im hoping to have my living arrangements sorted out soon...whether i stay in Brentwood or move to kent...so we will see! Depends where is more viable to open my nursery ( or buy an existing one).
Once i get past the 12 week mark, I will speak to my Doula friend ( who lives near my sisters anyway)..

I have a sleep disorder..im a sleep walker and have very vivd nightmares....Can be really scary..Its usualy stress related...so hopefully the ex xituation will die down..and I wont take little beany for any midnight excursions!
Little beany is due 2 days before my 38th birthday...so im no spring chicken either!!
hahaha

plummymummy · 01/06/2007 12:30

Oh good - a few oldy but goodies here like me Congrats teenagersagain Skibump - just re-read my post and -sounded like I was interrogating you when I meant to demonstrate anger towards your doctor. Sorry! Beller - do you mean children's nursery or plants?

mum2sons · 01/06/2007 12:32

Skibump, I had a homebirth with DS2 and know many women over 40 (if that is what you are) who have had homebirths. It is completly up to you where you have your baby! If you get any crap AIMS is v helpful. www.homebirth.org is also a fab website (I am sure you have come across it before).

Off for my scan later, a bit nervous, worried they are going to tell me it is a phantom pregnancy

plummymummy · 01/06/2007 12:43

good luck with your scan mumto2sons. I'm sure it's not a phantom pg, but can imagine how you are thinking that. Our imagination goes into overdrive doesn't it. I reckon if we could focus enough to sit down and write, we'd be at our most creative right now

beller · 01/06/2007 12:54

Good luck mums2sons!!

Plummymummy- Childrens nursery!! I used to work in a nursery years ago, and have qualified. I have now saved for many years(working in the city),and im in a position to open my own! My dream...and I cant wait...just so weird that I have fallen pregnant just before...my contract at work runs out nxt June..so just in time to get what little Maternity leave they pay ( basic minimun!),and get my skates on to open my school! Even though Ex has done a runner, at least I will have child care covered!

Angechica · 01/06/2007 13:20

Hi folks
I'm 34, a first timer and due 18 Jan! MW appointment on Tues.
I have had a really bad back for 3 weeks - since i sussed that i was pg about the same time ago i have been worrying about this ever since. Never had a bad back B4 in me life!
Apart from that i'm feeling OK ... boring my dh to death by falling asleep on the sofa every night without fail.
Also is it normal to have food cravings already? And, my tummy is so bloated i already look like i have a bump.

beller · 01/06/2007 13:25

congrats Angechica!
I havnt had any weird cravings yet...just constipation , but think i might change my vit tablets, and someone said that pregnacare made them constipated too!

Angechica · 01/06/2007 13:32

Cannot get enough of custard, rice pudding, full fat milk and even semolina. None of these have passed my lips since primary school & i never bothered with that particular aisle in Tescos til now

beller · 01/06/2007 13:35

Blurghhhhhhh
I hate milk, and anything associated with it! Dont even drink tea..just green tea... rice pudding and semolina would be my idea of torture!

birdseed · 01/06/2007 14:15

YEAH! - made it to my sister's bride and bridesmaids pre-wedding dinner thing in a restaurant last night!....never thought that I would be able to get there and feel ok enough to eat and be vaguely conversational...success!

Knackered today though, even though didn't finish that late. But worth it!

Re food cravings - i've had none yet but there are certain food that make me feel sick even just thinking about them, eg asparagus.

Re big tummy - mine is a bit bigger than normal at 9 weeks, but no distinct bump, but often blown up with gas !
