Have just found out that I am pregnant. Blimey! A bit nervous/scared! DH says scared is too strong a word. Might be from his side of things but I think that I'm scared!
Due 31st Dec or 1st Jan, can't quite work out whether cycle is 29 or 30 days.
First time, so not too sure what to expect!
Anyone else due at new year?

Good morning ladies. Feeling very tired today and a bit sicky too.Feet up Skibump and thats an order.
Im off to my parents for a week. Hopefuly for some rest. Ill try to pop in during the week on my Dads pc if I can.
Have a good one all

Calgary99 · 25/05/2007 11:18

Good morning everyone,

Congrats on the scan skibump!
I'm envious, I just got a pack from the Clapham Midwives group yesterday which says that my first scheduled appointment is for June 27th - Ugh - that's at 12 weeks. Will be calling them next week to see about going in earlier.

I agree with skibump and Katyt1 about the drinking aspect. I don't think getting sloshed is a good idea but a glass here and there shouldn't be an issue - otherwise France and Italy would have serious problems.

fruitful · 25/05/2007 11:45

Skibump, it is excellent that there is a heartbeat and your bean is growing. Sometimes your body just forgets that its not supposed to do periods... I had blood and icky clots with dd (who is now 5; I can't believe I have a 5-yr-old!).

Goingfor3 - I am exhausted too. At not-quite 5 weeks. And feeling sick. And bone-tired. What is that all about? I was expecting to have to worry that I wasn't getting any symptoms for about 3 weeks!

skibump · 25/05/2007 11:54

Thx fruitful & everyone, I'm feeling much more +ve. I obviously have a tough beanie, it's hanging on even though things are probably collapsing around it. Hope it's got a tight grip

MrsMcJnr · 25/05/2007 12:06

BeckyAu ? the deception is quite stressful I found especially as they?ll later find out you were lying to them! This time, I?m telling people on a needs must basis when I can?t get round it. I have actually been surprised when people haven?t even asked why I?m on softies but most people have asked. I guess, given today?s headlines, if people know you are TTC, you could always say that is why? Otherwise, get someone who knows to get your drinks!

Barristermum ? that is true. When I MCd in March, I was so glad a few close friends and family knew. It was exhausting having to tell people from scratch. I of course hope that this is never something that happens to you I was at a champagne tasting with clients the night I MCd actually, it was pretty awful, had I known the outcome, I would have drunk the champagne rather than swirled it round my mouth and then spat it out ? always an option for you, at least you get to taste the stuff even if you don?t swallow it! Virgin G+Ts are the way forward! That said if entertaining at home, I am addicted to 0% Cobra beer ? yum! No Bank Holiday for me but all my clients will be on hols so at least it should be quiet!

Birdseed that is a tricky one ? give that sauna a wide berth! I was at a Hen when pg before and managed to avoid the Spa by saying it was ?the time of the month? and I didn?t feel like it, seemed to work and was only a half lie as it would have been that time had AF turned up! Don?t envy you that porridge pan! It is lonely at this stage I think; I think you naturally feel a bit introverted too. It might be nice to share with your S&BIL you are so close in dates that it might be just the support you need.

Housemum you are due on my b?day now! DH and I did that with wine at a wedding and as he was drinking for 2, he was totally plastered! PMSL it?s not essential to be devious as a lawyer but it does help! I?m like you, boobs grew a couple of sizes immediately but now my waist is definitely going my trousers are very tight today and I haven?t put on any weight yet. I can also see that I look different; the bit just under my rib cage is sticking out! This is my 3rd pg (though 1st baby) and I can?t help wondering if because the last time was only March and I got to 10 weeks that my body just knows what to do this time and has just let go, that said, I think most of it is bowel distension and bloating, the baby?s only a couple of cms!

Hello letsgo it is exhausting! That?s why I can?t be bothered this time!

Hey Lilyloo ? a special secret between you two is lovely when I was last pg, I felt I had a secret smile all the time!

Awen poor you hon I can empathise; I have felt like that before. Sounds like a migraine. I find that I know whether I?d prefer heat or cold and put either an ice filled cloth on my head or a warm one, worth a try! Have you had any ginger biscuits? The ginger helps with the nausea. I think you can safely use Tiger Balm on your temples but I haven?t tried that as I hadn?t looked into whether or not it was safe. Hope you feel much better soon.

Skibump glad things went well today. Bleeding is so scary in pregnancy isn?t it? Even if it means nothing bad, it?s just the fact of it that worries you. Sending hugs and support. Take good care of yourself! Like the sound of your beanies growth support and HB maybe you will be like my friend Greedy on the TTC Graduates thread ? she?s had lots of bleeding and clots throughout and is now 20 odd weeks. Seek her out if you want a chat, she?s lovely! I read that article and it made me angry, we live in such a nanny state! The only reason for the change in guideline is because they feel some people are not taking the guideline of 1-2 units a week seriously enough! WTF! I?m not drinking at the moment either but later on, if I feel like it, I might have a nice glass of red wine on a Sat night and I don?t want to be eyeballed by the public for it as if I am being irresponsible with my baby

Katyt1 ? hope people are really excited for you! Odd comment about the roller-skates! that said, my Mum was out roller-skating with us when she was 4 months pg with my sis, she fell and my father was furious but my baby sis was fine!

Hey Plummy ? how are you? have to say, I am snobby about drinks from the gun but that?s cos I worked in a bar for years! I like tonic water plus the quinine stops muscles from cramping apparently, my calves cramp quite a lot at the mo.

Goingfor3 hello, I feel like you do I have to say ? apart from the cleaning, evenings are my worst time, I can?t be bothered to do anything

Congratulations Bluebell wishing you a very happy and healthy pregnancy!

Gingeme ? have a good weekend!

plummymummy · 25/05/2007 14:34

Ooh so maybe the drinks from the gun do carry bacteria? I usually avoid them because they don't taste as nice but perhaps my colleague was right after all She's actually very sweet - has 3 grown up daughters and is a bit of a mother hen It's a shame you didn't get to drink that champagne once you had the benefit of hindsight I do think having had previous pgs even if they have ended in m/c that your body remembers what to do next time. Also I think we look for changes quicker than a first timer because we are so keen to see signs pg is progressing ok Skibump - I live in South Croydon so I know Whyteleafe and Woldingham fairly well. Woldingham is very sought after as it has a semi rural feel with fantastic views of the surrey downs. Whyteleafe is fine but part bordering Woldingham has a better rep than the bit near Kenley. Bbabymumma lives in Caterham so she can probably give you some info too. Would also suggest Sanderstead and Coulsdon as areas to look at. Good luck house hunting

MrsMcJnr · 25/05/2007 14:36

I don?t know about bacteria but I just don?t like the idea of it or like you say, the taste of it, it is just not the same ? more soda stream than real stuff!

MamaMaiasaura · 26/05/2007 15:45

quiet in here today

Headache gone now. Had comeback with vengence last night but ok now. Had lovely lie in till gone 11am as ds is visiting his dad.

Had yummy late lunch of bagel with BLT and mayo .. Yummy. Had to undo jeans tho - blaming water retention as still pre preg weight.

8 weeks today resisted buying preg test again so will be 2nd sundayh tomorrw without testing. Boobs still ache esp when bra comes off. Felt bit sick today... quickly resolved when stuffed my face tho!

Plummy - u r right about looking for chances earlier in 1st trimester. Just want to be in 2nd.. meant to feel full of energy, glowing (hopefully) and relaxed.

MrsMcJnr - how are you doing? Was a lovely post from you and thanks for your thoughts re headache.

We have told family already about bean.. told them weeks ago Have told some friends but not all. Would personally prefer them to know and it saves making excuses about not drinking etc.

LilyLoo · 26/05/2007 15:55

Just wanted to pop in whilst i had a quick five mins in between packing up for our trip to Chicago.
Glad it's all looking good on here take care everyone, can't believe i nearly 8 wks already it's going so fast.
Am looking forward to lots of sleep and feeling very lost without the dc's for 5 days
Will take me a day to update when i get back, take care all x

MamaMaiasaura · 26/05/2007 16:05

@ chicago

Have a fab time lilyloo xx

skibump · 26/05/2007 16:47

me too, have a lovely time lilyloo

I'm having a lovely day as dh is having ds almost completely, so no lifting or anything The bleeding is much lighter, so I'm still hoping everything will be ok after all. I still have my only major pg symptom - feeling all pink and fluffy. I've been out and bought all sorts of frivolous girlie things, not like me at all!

Awen, glad you're feeling better, and well done for not testing - you ARE pg, and you know it . I've ended up telling a few people I otherwise wouldn't have in case I need some help with ds while dh is at work. It's a bit rubbish " hey guess what, I'm pregnant, but...." halting the congratulations in mid-flow, but everyone has been really lovely, and it's nice to have the support.

Plummymummy, thx for the tips, I'll have a closer look. Not sure we're moving yet, but dh is working 3+ days/wk in London, and it's 2.5hrs each way from here, so something's got to change.

Spas - I'm supposed to be going in 3 wks (mother-to-be pressie with ds ), maybe it'd be better to postpone it. Why can't we use saunas/hot tubs, does anyone know?

Long post, should stop rambling now. Hope everyone else is feeling good and enjoying their w/e

PinkElephant · 26/05/2007 17:11

So much to catch up on!! Has anyone found their nausea comes and goes? I've had nausea in the afternoon/evening from week 5 up unil now, which is nearly week 7. Now it's suddenly vanished....anyone else had the same?

MrsMc - Great news re the scan. I have my second a week on monday ast week 8

Plummy - Oh yes harma companies pay more, depends what grade you go in at. I'm not in sales/clinical research I work for a private company and am sponsored by pharma companies. So I still get patients contact and am involved in taining etc.....love it.

Birdseed - oooh bless, you have some long hours ahead of you

PinkElephant · 26/05/2007 17:12

Gawd - dreadful keyboard!! Can spell honest

Housemum · 26/05/2007 20:42

Skibump - the bit about saunas/hot tubs is to do with raising your body temperature. I can't remember where I read it - it might have been in the "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book (highly recommended - can usually pick up cheap on eBay but make sure you buy the latest edition)

Info re hot baths in general - www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/isitsafeto/hotbathsexpert/

There are a whole load of "is it safe" questions on that site: www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/isitsafeto/

MamaMaiasaura · 26/05/2007 21:46

Pink Elephant, I had the same last week - was my 7th - has returned a little (only when in ned of food ) try not worry as think this is one of those other normal things in preg.

Calgary99 · 27/05/2007 10:07

PinkElephant,
I've had nausea from about my 6th week and now I'm into my 7th. Strangest thing this morning as I woke up feeling decidedly unpregnant - not feeling full and no nausea whatsoever. That got me terribly worried until 2hrs later when it hit me again. Very odd but hopefully as Awen said, it should be nothing to worry about.

MamaMaiasaura · 27/05/2007 12:28

Slept in till nearly midday then dp made me breakfast/brunch ...

Morning/Afternoon everyone Wont be on here as much as half term and will be off out and about (if any decent weather!)

PinkElephant · 27/05/2007 12:33

I take it all back.....nausea has returned with avengence!!

Daft question but is it safe to apply fake tan wehn preggers? Can't cope with the washed out peaky look over the summer

letsgo · 27/05/2007 12:37

Morning to all

My nausea definately comes and goes seems to be worse this weekend and I am sooo tired. Just had cheese on toast which has made me feel a bit better. In fact I might go and get some more

Hope you all enjoy your Sunday and that it's not too rainy where you are. It's certainly chucking it down in Manchester so off to the cinema. Just trying to decide what food to take

letsgo · 27/05/2007 13:05

Pink elephant

Apparently fake tans can cause allergic reactions when pregnant so it is advised not to use them. Although it does say that if you do use them you should make sure you test on a small patch of skin first. Think I'll be testing it as I can't face being all pasty either....

bluebell82 · 27/05/2007 14:43

Hello all- hope you are all feeling fab this rainy sunday!
I am quite new to this 'being preg' lark, I am feeling great at the moemnt except for feeling really tired and having achy boobs.. am I right in thinking that morning sickness isn't just being sick but also feeling sick?? I think I may have 'all day' sickness I amnot being sick but could be if I didn't start deep breathing to control it..

I just wanted to find out if anyone else had crampy pains at all.. the af pains have gone now but I just have nagging twinges on my left side.. I have already had an ectopis where I lost my left tube but to be honest it happened so quickly I have blocked most of the warning signs out of my memory and it was a couple of years ago now..I also have a retroverted uterus which I am not sure whether it can cause pain.. and finally when I had my ectpis I had large cysts on both my ovaries.. these wre also seen during an early scan in sept when I unfortunately miscarried?? So to steel the show but I'm trying not to stress x

bluebell82 · 27/05/2007 14:45

I meant to say that I lost my right tube during my last ectopic, and apologies about the awful spelling!

skibump · 27/05/2007 15:34

Hi everyone. Bluebell, for what it's worth, I had really bad pains last time as everything stretched, I spoke to the midwife about it as I was worried (it really hurts doesn't it!) but everything was fine and she said it was completely normal. That said, it looks like you have a more complicated med history than me, so make sure you're getting looked after properly - have you got a midwife appt yet?

Letsgo, it's pouring down here too, so we're ahving a lazy Sunday stretched out in front of the TV with the papers scattered around. Must go & enjoy it before ds wakes up. Hope it's going well with everyone

Jenswish · 27/05/2007 18:45

Well, I'm knackered, scared and so sick... am finding myself pulling away from thoughts of baby.... I thought it was cos DP wasn't interested but the more I think about it the more I realise it's me. I hope this is hormones.

Anyway hope your all ok!!

plummymummy · 28/05/2007 11:36

I think it's natural and yes hormones probably to blame, but also when it's your first it is scary to think how much your life is going to change (but exciting too). Also if you are worried about whether everything is ok with the baby sometimes I think you detach yourself as a coping strategy.
