Due at New Year....anyone else?!

1000 replies

kerm · 24/04/2007 12:36

Have just found out that I am pregnant. Blimey! A bit nervous/scared! DH says scared is too strong a word. Might be from his side of things but I think that I'm scared!
Due 31st Dec or 1st Jan, can't quite work out whether cycle is 29 or 30 days.
First time, so not too sure what to expect!
Anyone else due at new year?

Birdseed - have you ever had a sauna with them before? If not, you could always say something along the lines of being really sorry, you didn't want to sound like a wuss, but the only time you ever went in one you fainted and you're scared it'll happen again? Spas can be a problem - you're not really supposed to use hot tubs as they increase your body temperature too much. Massage is a no-no unless the therapist is properly trained, even then some won't massage unless you are between 3 and 8 months. Aromatherapy is out - only certain oils are safe. You can have your legs waxed but I don't really think that's a bonding experience!!

Barristermum - I think being devious is very helpful in parenting - I've come out with some whoppers to tell DD why she can't do something! And the number of times Toys R Us has been "closed" when we drive past!

Perhaps with my sneaky mind I should retrain in law...

LilyLoo · 24/05/2007 19:25

Evening all can't believe we nearly on 600 messages already
Hope everyone ok this evening the list is looking good !
Have really not stopped eating today
Agree about the difficulty keeping up the pretence. Think we are going to keep this secret until we have our 12 wk scan this time. Not really that wer'e worried but would just like to keep this one to us for a while. Maybe it's because it's my third as my last two i told everyone when i was 7 weeks !

Housemum · 24/05/2007 19:54

Lilyloo - I thought I would be like you with number 3, but I just want to tell people! We were lucky, though, and had an early scan so perhaps if I hadn't seen the heartbeat I would still be waiting.

Is anyone else finding that they are losing their waist? I weigh myself daily (I know, a bad and sometimes depressing habit) so I know I haven't put on more than half a pound, but some clothes are feeling a bit tight already which surprised me (I knew the button blouses would be a no-no as each time the boobs have expanded first, but I don't remember the waist going so soon as well!)

MamaMaiasaura · 24/05/2007 20:16

Housemum - I do the same waist is feeling snug tho.. think water retention - cant possibly be all the choc i have been eating.

That aside I am feeling ever so poorly today Am almost in tears typing this - am a wuzz. Headache started early afdternoon and kinda wore off a bit but has come back with vengence. Feel sick with it too. Behind my right eye socket. Dont want to take nurofen cos of little bean. Bascailly dont want to risk anything. Is this just one of those things or a preg sympton? Sorry such a wuzzy.

LilyLoo · 24/05/2007 20:20

Poor you Awen try a couple of paracetamol. Someone on here recommended forehead for the headaches and i found it really helped.

skibump · 24/05/2007 22:55

Wow, busy thread, difficult to keep up with everything! Thx for the support, was good to see the heartbeat, but the bleeding has got worse since then. I've been talking to the hospital and am due back there again tomorrow morning, so (deep breath) fingers crossed again everyone please. Thx Housemum, good to hear you've been thro something similar with a +ve outcome.

Awen take care hunny, hope you're feeling better soon

Yes, I've given up running for now. Actually gone from running about 5km to not being able to run to the end of the road in

plummymummy · 25/05/2007 00:09

Oh skibump hope everything is ok. Try to take it easy in the meantime.

plummymummy · 25/05/2007 00:29

awen hope your headache gets better soon. 4got to answer your question - I live in Surrey (well - Croydon to be precise) Never been to Southampton but always associate it with Craig David or Avid from Bo Selecta! Would like to go to IoW some time.

MamaMaiasaura · 25/05/2007 09:40

skibump - fingers firmly crossed for you and lots of postive beanie thoughts xx

Plummy - IOW is lovely an fab day out for family. I cathc the local ferry and go for the whole day there.

Headache much much better thank you all. Didnt take anything for it, went to bed Still had a bit of one when i got up this morning - same place behind right eye and still there a little but nothing like yesterday thank goodness.

How is everyone?

katyt1 · 25/05/2007 09:43

hi all,
i have just given in and told people this time. waited til 13 weeks last time (scan was a week late) but can't be bothered with the pretense this time round.
there's also the 'bad back' excuse for getting out of some things.
carrying a full glass of wine and occasionally lifting it up as if to drink worked for me once. anytime anyone was offering to buy a round, i just held up my glass - don't need another one thanks! most of the time other people are not following what others are drinking so you shd be ok.

plummymummy · 25/05/2007 09:47

I am going on a work drink tonight but I will be drinking alcohol free lager. Everyone will guess anyway because I usually drink white wine but it will make me feel less conspicuous than if I was to have a lemonade.

katyt1 · 25/05/2007 10:24

ds interrupted last post.
meant to finish by saying we told in-laws, and yes mil cried....ho hum
(she's always a bit ott re family stuff)

and comes up with stoopid comments like, 'oh well kt has put her rollerskates away cos she's not allowed to now' wtf?
(aside from the fact i don't have any and never have and pron couldn't and make a t*t of myself anyway)
she gets funny ideas about pg.

anyway, lots to do, ds down for nap, i want to try and get a doze in but must ring docs, vets, library, etc.
kt

skibump · 25/05/2007 10:36

Morning all. More blood, more clots and... still a heartbeat and my beanie has grown from 4.1mm to 6.7mm in 2 days. WOW, I know there's some variation in the measurements, but it still seems like loads to me. Glad it's a long w/e, I'm planning to put my feet up as much as possible and let dh and ds have lots of bonding time . Now I just need to relax about the bleeding, I know it makes my pg high risk, but we've got this far, which tbh is more htan I was expecting.

Awen, about your headache - still. Have you had your bp checked? It might be worth getting it checked out.

Re drinking, have you heard gov advice today? No alcohol AT ALL when pg or even ttc, and all based on no additional scientific evidence As it happens, I don't drink anyway, but it seems a bit draconian to me.

skibump · 25/05/2007 10:39

kt, I think you should get some! Oh no, how about a pair of heelies....

plummymummy · 25/05/2007 10:40

Skibump great news about baby heartbeat and growth Glad you are planning to put your feet up over the next few days. Are they scanning you next week as well. How many weeks are you now? Sorry to hear about the clots

katyt1 · 25/05/2007 10:40

that's great news skibump
try to rest lots and not worry as bubs seems to be doing fine. that does seems like lots of growth! will have to look it up somewhere about how big they are at each stage - had a good site last pg but have lost it since.

i saw that about drinking. tbh, i think our bodies tell us what we need or don't need.
i had a glass of white wine the other night and didn't feel too good after so it's no more white wine for me. but i found it the same last time. i was ok with a glass of red every now and then the whole way through. spirits and beer i went off straight away - never really got back into them - then white wine. so i think if you have some sense/nous/whatever you can pay attention to your body and eat/drink what it tells you will be ok.

just my opinion...

katyt1 · 25/05/2007 10:42

x-posted you skibump, now heelies, now you're talking....! think i would look well-cool in them!

plummymummy · 25/05/2007 10:43

at mil katy. Isn't is funny how some people react! I remember going to a work thing when pg with ds and I asked a colleague to get me a lemonade. She refused to get it for me as they only had it on tap and she had heard that there are germs in the pumps so she bought me a tonic water instead (don't even like tonic water).

MamaMaiasaura · 25/05/2007 10:44
  • yay about the scan ski bump - are you about 7 weeks now? So pleased for you. Sorry about the tucky clots, lots of rest and relaxing xx

Headache not so bad now thank you. Am about to have a nice bath

goingfor3 · 25/05/2007 10:49

Hello ladies,

I feel really exhausted. It started just before I got a positive pregnancy test but seems to be getting worse. As well as feeling really tired my muscles ache too, is it normal to be so exhausted? The only time I feel better is in the evening when I get a neurotic compulsion to do some cleaning.

bluebell82 · 25/05/2007 10:56

Hi everyone I am 5 weeks 1 day just had it confirmed by the GP yesterday and have a scan booked for 6th June due to previous complications..
Feeling great, very tired, few crampy period type pains but apart from that...
Alaos amazingly excited!

skibump · 25/05/2007 10:57

kt, agree with you absolutely, our bodies know best. going43, yes, I've been really bone tired too, it seems to be one of the classic symptoms.

Plummy, you're in Croydon, do you know Whyteleafe/Woldingham at all, what's it like? (possibility of a move and trying to sort out where would be good)

MamaMaiasaura · 25/05/2007 10:59

welcome bluebell when is your due date?

skibump · 25/05/2007 10:59

Welcome bluebell, and many congratulations. When does that make your due date? Add yourself on to the list

Awen, I'll be 7 weeks tomorrow
