Due at New Year....anyone else?!

kerm · 24/04/2007 12:36

Have just found out that I am pregnant. Blimey! A bit nervous/scared! DH says scared is too strong a word. Might be from his side of things but I think that I'm scared!
Due 31st Dec or 1st Jan, can't quite work out whether cycle is 29 or 30 days.
First time, so not too sure what to expect!
Anyone else due at new year?

Food seems to make the biggest difference for me, but I seem to have to eat so frequently and don't really manage it, so spend a lot of time feeling nausous (?sp.!)

MamaMaiasaura · 24/05/2007 13:25

I got my seabands from chemist on the Isle of Wight. Think a chemist is your best bet

I am a food monster!! Just been into town to get a bra to sleep in - all disgusting ones.. ended up with a real cheapie £6.59 end of line from JOhn Lewis. Decided not really going to invest till further along (bra i got was 36G ). Did peek at cots and bedding and pushchair travel systems tho .. oo and looked at maternity clothes. THink I will def get some from dorothy Perkins.

Had to eat a BLT and it had mayo - bad norty me but i couldnt resist. Also bought pack for cakes for a treat for the boys tonight.. have eaten one so enough for tonight still but now trying to resist the rest

Sprite has really helped with the sickness too i think.

plummymummy · 24/05/2007 13:39

Maybe it's too early but I haven't been suffering much with nausea - just ever so mild acid, or delicate stomach at times but defo no waves of nausea. Mind you with ds it didn't start til past 7 weeks and it was only in the evening. I have been dizzy though. Whilst painting Ds room I had to stop for a bit as I felt very faint - I think it was the exertion. Is anyone exercising? I would like to go swimming, but I started to m/c just after I went when pg before and I can't see how that could have caused it but at the same time I don't want to tempt fate. Thought maybe I'd get to 7 weeks at least if my body will let me. Skibump are you having a break from running?

Hello all. Haven't time to reply to everyone, clock is ticking till ds wakes up and wants attention!

Calgary - can I just say that phoning the doctors at 10 weeks to get an appt at 11 weeks would be a little optimistic where I live. You need 2 or 3 weeks for a "non-emergency" appointment round here!

MamaMaiasaura · 24/05/2007 13:51

Southampton Sailed to IOW a few weeks back and ds was a bit icky so I got seabands when there. Where are u?

Calgary99 · 24/05/2007 13:54

Thanks everyone,
seabands and crystallized ginger are on my shopping list for my way home tonight. Let you know how it goes.

Plummymummy, I have been exercising but only 3 days a week and very light intensity compared with what I used to do. My norm since I found out is 30min on the bike and then weights. I definitely don't have the endurance nor the energy I had before I got pregnant and with the nausea (which I still get while exercising) it's about all I can do. I'm going to wait for the all clear at 12 weeks before I go back to more rigourous workouts.

Calgary99 · 24/05/2007 13:57

Fruitful,
Thanks for suggestion - I'll call around 8weeks to be certain --hey, that's only next week :O Yay!

Sorry I missed you on the list - that makes 25 of us!

plummymummy · 24/05/2007 14:11

Do you mean an exercise bike? I would like to go swimming 2 or 3 times a week ideally plus an antenatal yoga class but I am getting twinges so think SPD is returning which rules out most exercise but if it does return I will go to an osteopath to see if they can alleviate it enough for me to continue exercising.

Calgary99 · 24/05/2007 14:41

Yes, I use the exercise bike at the gym. It's easy to change the intensity for what I feel up to doing and as long as I sweat I figure I'm getting some exercise.

It sounds as if swimming and yoga would be a great routine for pregnancy (I'd swim, but I still need to learn how and figure with the queaziness it's not the time to learn.) What is SPD?

angelcake99 · 24/05/2007 16:26

Hi, I'd like to join you ladies if thats okay.

I am about 7+2 and quite nervous really! Already have Ds who is 2 so pleased that he is going to have a brother or sister! due date is 11th jan so far, not had scan yet though, and i am driving myself mad worrying already!

barristermum · 24/05/2007 16:55

Hey angelcake - welcome. We all know how you feel on the anxious front - there will be some serious rejoicing by mid July if we are all still here.

Awen, your BLT is NOT something to feel guilty about - wld be astonished if mayo not made with pasteurised egg.

Was in court today with load of colleagues and we all went for lunch as hearing finished and they drank LOADS of wine and were most astonished by my uncharacteristic abstinence - I was actually asked directly if pg (cheeky buggers) and had to lie and evade and suggest was going to work v hard this afternoon and cd not indulge. Felt SO self conscious.

barristermum · 24/05/2007 16:57

Just adding Angelcake in!

MrsMcJnr · 24/05/2007 17:00

Barristermum - I have never really noticed before how most of my working life revolves around booze - guess I always liked it that way but it is making things VERY tricky at the moment! I do not have the image of being an elderflower wine type of girl!

BeckyAu · 24/05/2007 17:07

Me either! I do love a good wine yet my DH has organised a surprise something with my friends for my birthday in a couplke of weeks when I won't be drinking of course so that will look very strange! Any views on which white lie works best: "I'm detoxing ttc", "I'm on antibiotics" or just pretending that a diet coke or orange juice has vodka in it? Do any of you ladies have any tips? I hate to deceive but am just too scared to let the world know about this just yet

barristermum · 24/05/2007 17:13

There is a school of thought that says if the unthinkable happens (god forbid etc etc) you will need the support of a few close friends (I am telling my parents on Fri cos DH and I are taking them to France champagne-tasting this weekend so wd just look too bizarre if I were abstaining and wd want them to know if devastated in the future - will feel a bit like our English setter dribbling in front of them begging as they enjoy their champers tho')

However, if that's not an option, I favour the pretend you are drinking approach - tonic without the gin or vodka etc and make sure DH is always the one refilling your glass. You may even appear drunk by osmosis!

birdseed · 24/05/2007 17:34

I have had another tricky one today - am bridesmaid for my sister in a fortnight and my sister thought that it would be a nice idea for the bride and the bridesmaids to go for a sauna the weekend before as a bonding thing!....I got asked by one of them what date suits and have just said that I will leave them too it, and left it at that....haven't heard back from that e mail yet!

Housemum · 24/05/2007 17:35

Becky - the antibiotics one is used so often that people see through it. Perhaps you can have one glass of wine, and just raise it to your lips without drinking? Make sure DH is drinking the same, and swap surreptitiously with his glass from time to time, so it looks as if yours goes down. Or as you say, have shorts minus the short but make sure that only you or DH get them so you don't get a real one!

Awen - mayonnaise is fine unless it's home-made. Seeing you are in Southampton, it's pretty good down there for baby shops isn't it? I remember going to Baby Needs (we're in Basingstoke so not that far away!)

Just amended my date on the list following yesterday's app't:

birdseed · 24/05/2007 17:41

Hmmm!...got so engrossed in reading your responses that I forgot about the porridge I was cooking as an after work snack...so will have a welded pan to deal with later!
Managed to salvage some of the porridge though, so not all bad!

I was feeling pretty down in the dumps last night as I don't really see anyone socially and my job is a bit lonely too. I feel too nauseous in the evenings to make any plans. So DH suggested telling his brother and his wife about our news this weekend. They live vaguely nearby, are just a year or so older than us and are pregnant too but 3 weeks ahead. Seems a bit early as are only 8 1/2 weeks (haven't told anyone apart from dr and dentist so far!) but on the other hand I agree with what you are saying barrister mum.

Anyone got any suggestions/opinions?!

BeckyAu · 24/05/2007 17:43

Thank you ladies for your advice - I think getting DH to get me "vodka" and something all night is the best option so thanks for that. I am dying to tell people and keep thinking about what you said Barristermum about if the unthinkable happened (I hope it doesn't happen for any of us) then the support would be there... I was thinking about waiting til the nuchal scan on July 2nd but maybe I won't after all....

BeckyAu · 24/05/2007 17:44

And Birdseed... it sounds great if you do tell them - then you won't feel so isolated?

letsgo · 24/05/2007 17:54

Hi All

I've not been on here for a while but glad to see the chatting's still ongoing.

I too am expereincing difficulties with the not drinking. I have said that I'm detoxing and also that I have tonsilitis (this was because I was supposed to be going to a party and couldn't face it and also because I was supposed to be doing a 10k run)

Visited my parents a week ago and kept falling asleep and had to say that I had been working hard. I said the non drinking was because I had a headache! Phew this is exhausting

letsgo · 24/05/2007 17:57

Birdseed - I have told a couple of people. I think it's good to have someone to chat to and makes you feel less isolated

barristermum · 24/05/2007 18:15

housemum - you are so devious - real gift for subterfuge.

birdseed - get stuck in traffic for the sauna - uless housemum can suggest something even more elaborate and fabulous. In the meantime chin up and keep talking to us at least, where all feelings can be expressed.

Have to go ladies - but all have lovely bank holidays - shall have to set aside a couple of hours on my return on wed for all the chat in the meantime!

birdseed · 24/05/2007 18:30

Thank you all for your support.
I will talk to dh again about telling his brother. He was initially reluctant because he was worried that it would be tempting fate, but seemed keen last night.

Have a great bank holiday barristermum, sounds like you are off tonight - very impressed!
