Due at New Year....anyone else?!

Have just found out that I am pregnant. Blimey! A bit nervous/scared! DH says scared is too strong a word. Might be from his side of things but I think that I'm scared!
Due 31st Dec or 1st Jan, can't quite work out whether cycle is 29 or 30 days.
First time, so not too sure what to expect!
Anyone else due at new year?

Hope all ok jenswish. Its blood and pain together that are a concern so good that your pain was unrelated. Hope the doctor can put your mind at rest. Lily - I didn't really have the energy and I'm suffering now but dh would take forever to get round to it. Awen - please don't worry as I would rather someone warned me about something than kept it to themselves. Luckily no gloss paint needed as skirting is fine. Got one wall left so will finish up in morning. Ds sleeping in our room tonight. He's a bit confused poor thing.

plummymummy · 22/05/2007 20:32

Oh sorry, just re-read that you had af like pains. It's so hard to know whether it's cause for concern because in early pg there is a lot going on down there so you do get pains now and then. Hope you get appt quickly as being in limbo is the worst thing.

Thanks for the notes, I've decided that seeing as it's stopped it must not be anything, I'm just going to get a docs apt and see what they say.

Am making DP get off his arse in the morning and go to the docs to register the 2 of us as we HAVE to sort it.

Right am going to get him out of his bed.

BTW, weekend I got changed at 4:00pm on Friday to the nightie and didn't get changed again till 8:00pm Sunday when I went for a bath with bubbles, candles and the pg book. hehe

A pregnant womans perogative Jen
Just wondering if anyone thought about the birth yet ? Just that the midwife asked today if i would consider a home birth and i am very tempted. Anyone here had one before ?

MamaMaiasaura · 22/05/2007 21:20

Evening lovelies

Lily - glad u had appt. I had mine with GP, havent heard from mw yet. DOnt think I 2will be allowed homebirth due to section before. Will try for VBAC tho. I would love a homebirth.. altho we do have new carpets teehee - your ditzy preg hormones are in as you wrote June instead of Jan

Plummy - Bet you are tired now! you have been busy. My ds is in our bed at the moment.. He is soo snuggly took me ages to pry myself away from him. He is sooo loving [sigh] He is lots better but have to take him to hosp for ENT appt (been arranged ages) and school wont have him back tomorrow cos he had diarrohea.

Jenswish - let us know how you get on tomorrow. Sorry if tmi but had you had some rumpy pumpy cos that can make cervix bleed? Glad it was only a little and you are feeling relaxed.

Barristermum - good luck with drs appointment. I got an early scan as my dates were really messed up (last AF was 26 Feb). If you are unsure of dates you might be able to get a dating scan.

Katy1 - It is hard to think of much else isnt it .. chores/work seems so mundane in comparison.

Fruitful - how are you today?

Skibump - Hope it goes ok tomorrow xxx

I am ok here, was little nauseus earlier but didnt last. Boobs ok unless prodded or bra comes off Getting all paranoid and wanting to rush out and buy pregnancy test. I wont birdseed .. just want to!! Oo I had a teary strop earlier over house repairs - daft sod me.

Hello everyone else how are you all?
(I feel all proud like MrMcJnr for doing such a long post! )

I'm worrying about all that skirting board that I painted with gloss on Saturday now! Have informed dh that he is doing the skirting boards in the next room.

Imawurzel · 23/05/2007 07:11

Morning all.
Does anyone know what size bra is after 36DD/E? I measured myself last night on one on-line guide and it reckoned i was a 36C,i couldn't get one boob in that!!!
I've got to get some more, was thinking about going on e-bay and seeing what's there.
Also are maternity trousers going to fit all the way through pregnancy?
I'm normally a 14-16, so do i get 2 pairs and they'll last or would i have to buy some more half way through?
Work doesn't do maternity wear.Have to buy my black trousers from new look or dotty p's. (well, they do black trousers but they are crap, thin at ankle and huge at thighs kind)

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 23/05/2007 08:34

cant belive there is a 2008 thread!!! Just popping over from the August thread to wish you ladies lots of luck and hoping that the next 8 months fly bye for you!

LilyLoo · 23/05/2007 08:55

Morning all.
Whoops that would make me nearly an elephant pregnancy Awen.
Hope ds feeling better today.
Jen , Skibump fingers crossed for you today.
Plummy last time i got some elasticated trousers from Next , they were quite good for most of my pg. But maternity ones with the panel, or under bump weren't much good until much further on, although the ones with the extra buttons in the side tend to last for a bit longer also.

plummymummy · 23/05/2007 09:14

Hi everyone. Wurzel (do you mind if I shorten it?)as lilly says the mat trousers with the elastic in the sides and buttons so you can expand the waist as you get bigger, do last the whole pg. I had a great pair from H+M and I wore them for a bit after the birth too. Very comfy indeed. I am getting seriously into nesting, comfy mode. As soon as I possibly can I put my dressing gown on. Looking forward to buying maternity gear (can't believe I'm saying that!)

I'm so glad that I found this thread. I;m a recent transplant from over the pond (here two months) and am certain that the medical system works differently here. I'm really looking forward to having some 'locals' thoughts as I am a worrier by nature and as this is my first at 37yrs I'm feeling even more nervous.

I just signed up with my local surgery and the GP told me I would be contacted by a midwife at 12 weeks. She also said that as I'm not 40 they would not do an amnio. I'm of the vein that I absolutely want to have the test and possibly CVS if I can find a doctor who is competent and for whom that's their speciality. Does anyone out there have insights into how I would go about getting set up? I've got BUPA and NHS coverage but as I only just arrived in the UK I've really no idea how the systems interact or work outside of the fact that I am restricted by my postal code to a specific group of surgeries (in CAnada I could go see any doctor I wanted as long as they had space - even across the country).

Thanks everyone!

LilyLoo · 23/05/2007 10:18

Whoops meant Wurzel not Plummy.
Oh dear can i blame it on being pg and not blonde
Reminds me of when i was pg with ds and i went to an ante natal with an odd pair of boots on
Plummy thanks for that comment on ttc thread didn't feel right to say it on there.

LilyLoo · 23/05/2007 10:21

Welcome Calgary. You usually get assigned a gp and a surgery where there is availability close to you. Then when you see the midwife you can choose where to have baby from your closest hospitals.

birdseed · 23/05/2007 11:07

Calgary, I have just got through the NHS screening booklet with my first antenatal appointment (booking visit), which in my area isn't done until 12 weeks, and it says that everyone gets offered screening, but only those who have a result giving a risk higher than 1 in 250 will be offerred amnio or CVS. I think that the screening offerred depends on area. My area does a nuchal fold scan at 11-13 weeks, but doesn't do the blood test that some areas do and that you can get privately.

I don't know about private, but it would be worth your while ringing BUPA to see if they cover anything in pregnancy. I read somewhere that most health insurers in the UK cover very little or none.
Otherwise you could look into paying for private consultation to chat about it - there are other threads discussing private clinics eg fetal medicine in Harley street, but I don't know anything about them.

Hope that helps.

Fruitful - congratulations! - I'm sure I saw your name on the TTC board a bit back! ... nice to see that you have been successful too!

Awen - well done for resisting that pg test purchase!....more money for sprite now!

goingfor3 · 23/05/2007 12:00

Hello,

I'm feeling quite normal today. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. I was really lightheaded for most of the day yesterday and am really relieved it has disapered. I feel like I'm counting down the time to my scan, 4 weeks and 6 days to be precise!

skibump · 23/05/2007 14:36

Hi everyone, thx for the positive beanie vibes, it must have worked because.....there was a heartbeat I was sooo surprised, and feels like I've found out I'm pg all over again. Still bleeding a bit though, so trying not to get too excited just yet (ha!) Jenswish, fingers crossed it's all ok for you hunny.

Katy, me too, just got back to my proper size and shape, now I'm digging my maternity clothes out again. Wurzel, last time I got some smart black jeans from Next, they have elasticated panels where the pockets would be, and you can hardly tell they're maternity wear at all. They get me right through last time, tho I think they may have stretched past the point of no return

Awen, hope your ds is feeling better. Mine is snuffling badly, but it doesn't seem to be slowing him down at all.

Welcome Calgary

Housemum · 23/05/2007 14:44

Hi all

Skibump - my fingers are crossed for you - I had some bleeding with DD2 and she's absolutely fine

I may be sloping off to join the December thread as MW gave me a due date of 29th December. Not sure how she managed that, even if I made my cycle 28 days not 31 it still doesn't come out at that on the pregnancy websites. But I'll take that one as if I am overdue in their eyes it won't be as bad as the dates I had worked on! (And from thinking I was 8 weeks tomorrow, now I'll be 9 weeks on Saturday - it's just tweaking the numbers but it makes me feel better!)

about 5 weeks to go until nuchal scan - just waiting for the appt but will be w/c 25th June. Yippee!

plummymummy · 23/05/2007 16:30

Great news skibump Must have been so lovely to get a heartbeat

gingeme · 23/05/2007 18:50

Good afternoon ladies. Been feeling very sick past couple of days Not too bad todat thank goodness.
Got my date for my scan today Its in 5 weeks time. Has anyone here had there booking in appt yet? So suprised to get the scan date as I usualy have a booking in appt first
My boobs have definately got bigger already.
Imawurzel get yourself measured first. Go to Mothercare or Marks and Sparks theyll do it for you. Well Im off to put my feet up. Dh has got our fans out. Time for a cold glass of 7Up

birdseed · 23/05/2007 20:13

Nice one skibump - really pleased to hear that it was all ok today...what a relief for you!

Housemum - blimey!....being put forwards rather than back...how exciting! When I had scan a few days ago they put me back four days...but am choosing to ignore it unless is confirmed by nuchal fold scan!....just can't face any more time before first 12 weeks are up!

Going home for sisters wedding in 2 weeks time and have to spend 4 days with the rest of my family and look normal, ie not tired or sick, and eat normally, as no one knows yet!....hope I'm feeling better by then, or may be a big challenge!

Calgary99 · 23/05/2007 20:24

Hello Everyone,

Thanks LilyLoo and birdseed for the info. I think I will call at about 10 weeks to see if I can get an appointment for 11 weeks just to be certain to make the period for CVS if necessary.

As DH and I are looking right now for a place to buy closer to my work (crazy how expensive it is here!! but then renting is too)so it means I'll be changing areas and surgery/midwife probably after that appointment.

Congratulations on the heartbeat skibump. I can't wait to hear ours! Can I ask where you bought your seabands? I've just started feeling nauseous since last Friday and unfortunately it starts at about 10am and doesn't stop until close to bedtime. I can only eat/drink so much ginger which helps me a lot so if there is something I could wear all the time I will definitely try them out.

Also, is anyone else out there feeling exhausted? I've been dragging myself through the days basically since the nausea hit me and am wondering how much longer I can expect this. I've read that it could be until the end of the 1st trimester but I'm hoping earlier.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! All my best.

Housemum · 23/05/2007 20:32

Birdseed - I'll probably get put back again at the scan! Though I think if the measurements only differ by a couple of days they keep your date the same.

LilyLoo · 23/05/2007 20:39

Evening all. Hooray Skibump great news.
Gingeme i had my booking in apt yesterday.
The exhaution is a killer isn't it Calgory i find it's worst mid afternoon and would do anything for a quick nap.

Housemum · 23/05/2007 20:40

Has anyone else been depressed by the non-underwired bra selections? I think it's now OK to wear underwires, at least until the later stages, but thought I'd check out the maternity section at M&S as my old B-cup bras were straining, and I'm sure I did read that non-wired were better in pregnancy. Yeeuuughhh! Don't even look at the 2 pack ones - they were hideous! They did have one nicer style so I have ordered it in black, white and pink! this bra is OK this bra is not!

Actually, when it comes to the end, the nursing bra selections in Debenhams/Blooming Marvellous/Figleaves.com all look a lot better than they did a few years back.
