I just put my maternity stuff into HR yesterday- going off at 37+4 but I work mainly from home so no awful commute into London anymore, makes a big difference. When I told my manager she did laugh and say that I may want to review that closer to the time!

ClaireBear1986 · 08/12/2017 14:16

I only walk about 20 mins either way each day, from the tube to my office. But as I walk over a bridge crossing the Thames, it can be very very cold.

So I purchased this maternity jacket:

direct.asda.com/george/womens/maternity-clothes/maternity-shower-resistant-parka/G005754436,default,pd.html

I got mine with a discount, so paid £18 but still very reasonable at full price of £30.
It looks good on and is very snug. Plus it can also be worn as a normal coat after pregnancy, by just removing the maternity panel.

I love it :)

Sam91TRS15 · 08/12/2017 17:03

I have a maternity jacket from my DD but as she was born in July it's so thin I haven't even bothered taking it out of the loft.. I have a big ski jacket which still fits so hoping thatll do until the weather improves!
I am writing up my thesis right now so I have been working from home since the end of September most days. But I'm struggling to focus so could end up writing up until baby arrives!

Parney · 08/12/2017 17:05

@Liv I teach too and had DS at 37+1 almost this time last year! Luckily my waters went on a Sunday evening as I’d had such fears of it happening in school Xmas Blush This time I’m finishing up now at Christmas which takes me up to our summer holidays. I’ll take unpaid leave from September.

24+2 now and I’m hungrier than ever! I have the glucose test coming up after Christmas, really hope it’s clear.

boatrace30 · 08/12/2017 18:30

I didn't get a maternity coat last time and really regretted it the other side of Christmas! I never felt warm with my bump at all. This time I bought on me in next with £20 by referring a friend. The resale value on eBay is excellent. You tend to get about 2/3 original price so I will sell it next autumn.

I'm working to 39+2 in theory. I teach but part time and desperate to get my a-level students as close to their exam as possible as I'm the only subject specialist in the school. So will be off from Easter to Christmas.

Aspenn17 · 08/12/2017 19:38

I can take 1 year off + 33 days annual leave. So I'm thinking I will 'officially' start my mat leave a few days before she's due, but then take 4 weeks holiday before that so I'll be finishing work at about 36 weeks. That way I still have 2 weeks to use at the end of my year off so won't be going back until just after she turns 1.

MissYeti · 09/12/2017 15:28

@aspenn17 I'm studying primary education, was primary teaching but I don't think I'm cut out for the workload right now so I dropped the qualified teacher status part of the course! Might come back to it in the future but I'm looking more into support work (careers advice, counselling, etc. Depending on what masters I can do and when)

MrsElenaSalvatore · 10/12/2017 12:10

Hi all!

Been intermittently reading these threads but finally believing I'm really pregnant so feeling ready to join in :).

22 weeks today with our first, team pink and feeling her move more and more each day, which is the loveliest of feelings!

Hope everyone's pregnancy is going smoothly! Oh and does anyone have a link to the Facebook group?

MissYeti · 10/12/2017 13:01

Hi @misselenasalvatore! Welcome to the group :D I'll put a message on the fb group for the admins to pop back over and add people again.

Congrats on team pink!

SparklyOwl · 10/12/2017 13:06

Hi @MrsElenaSalvatore if you and anybody else who wishes to join the Facebook group can send me a message with the email address you use to log on, I will send you the link.

LivLemler · 10/12/2017 22:08

We ordered nursery furniture today - not a stick of furniture in what will be the baby's room, so we need everything. It's flatpack so that'll be some fun for our Christmas break... Figured better to get it out of the way now!

MrsDneedsaB · 10/12/2017 22:40

Aww @LivLemler that's great, where did you get your stuff from? I've got a Mamas and Papas hand me down cot from my sister so will just end up having to buy drawers and even then I think I might get the Kallax shelving system from ikea as it's so versatile.

I've informed my company that I'd be taking my 4 weeks annual leave before I start mat leave, starting it officially at 39+5 means I don't have to return until January. 5th March leaving date is getting scarily closer!

LivLemler · 10/12/2017 22:44

So handy your sister could give you a cot! That's great.

We got a set from mothercare. It'll do the job!

ClaireBear1986 · 11/12/2017 10:40

I start my Maternity Leave on 5th March as well @MrsDneedsaB
I can't wait as I am already finding the commute a real struggle.
I will be 33weeks and 4 days.

We attended a Mothercare morning for expectant parents at the weekend, but it wasn't really very good.

We think we have now decided exactly what pram, crib and baby monitor we want though.
So we are going back in Jan with a personal shopper to make our final decisions and buy all the big purchases. I can't wait!!

Hope the weather isn't too bad for everyone. I was petrified of slipping over this morning, so had to wake the DP up for a lift to the station.

olicat · 11/12/2017 13:52

Claire it's ok where I am now but yesterday all the pavements were frozen and I was clinging to DP like bambi on the way to Tesco 😂

FairfaxAikman · 11/12/2017 14:00

Ffs. The professional assessors who were due to check my work station set up was suitable went to our old office despite the fact they were given the postcode for the new one.
Wouldn't mind but we moved five years ago.

ClaireBear1986 · 11/12/2017 14:08

Oh no @Olicat, that sounds awful. Glad you had DP to cling onto.

London is fine so I was please about that when I got to work, but was pretty bad at home (in Essex) yest so we just stayed in all day in our pjs watching TV. Bliss :)

They don't sound the most professional of people @FairfaxAikman. Is the old office far from your new one?

FairfaxAikman · 11/12/2017 14:33

It's a mile away down the other end of the town Centre

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 11/12/2017 17:09

Finally last night baby kicked so that DH could feel 😊

So I had my scan on Friday - all good and still team yellow but I went to book my classes today and the NHS ones are booked for feb so I’ve had to be booked in for 28th March - 18tn April
Due 20th April Hmm

Also the daisy birthing class I want is now fully booked for Jan with no announcement for the next block will be but I would assume would run into late March 😢

OP posts:
harrietm87 · 11/12/2017 19:09

Wow jealous of mrsD and clairebear - I'm not stopping until 38 weeks (last day 23 March) as trying to save my leave and holiday for when baby is here. Luckily I have an easy commute and a desk job but might still regret it closer to the time!

whymustyou that's a shame re the classes. I booked my NCT ones at around 12 weeks and even then couldn't get into the right slot for my due date in my area - had to pretend I was due 2 weeks after I am (hopefully baby will be late...). It's madness!

MissYeti · 11/12/2017 20:12

Are birthing classes compulsory? Only I haven't even thought about it and I doubt there will be anything available now :/
I don't even know how to go about looking for them, my midwife hasn't mentioned anything about them yet

NickMyLipple · 11/12/2017 22:35

So stupid question but when/how do I get a matb1? I don't have another appointment until mid January!

harrietm87 · 12/12/2017 07:39

missyeti no they're not compulsory don't worry - that baby is coming out of you no matter what! My hospital runs free ones I think every month, so you could check with your midwife if yours does? I went for nct cos I've just moved house so no longer in the area where my hospital is and wanted to meet people nearby.

nick I got it from my midwife at 20 week appt- how many weeks will you be at your next one?

LivLemler · 12/12/2017 10:04

MissYeti - my antenatal classes were booked at my 20 week scan appointment, have you had yours yet? If you have just ask your midwife, I'm sure it's different in every area!

Nick - I was told I'd be given my matb1 at my 25 week appointment, which is a bit late! So I rang my GP surgery and they were able to leave it at reception for me.

MrsDneedsaB · 12/12/2017 10:27

I need to question my surgery about my Mat B1 form as my HR department is asking for it and my husbands company is also asking for a copy so that they can be prepared for his paternity leave.

I don't have another midwife appointment until January. I was told at my 16 week appointment to make a GP appointment for w/c 18th December....asked at reception and was told "we don't do it that far in advance" and was told the same thing the next few times I called. I forgot about it and rang again a couple of weeks later and was told I couldn't get an appointment until January! Bloody pointless as it's after my midwife appt and I don't even know why I need to see my GP, I hate my surgery sometimes. I still don't have my prescription exemption and have a feeling I won't get my Mat B1 any time soon after requesting it 🙄
