@Milney25 - I use Ovia and I like that app. I used it for TTC and for my last pregnancy.

@Kiki275 - didn't you know that you're meant to crawl up the stairs ;) Some of it really does require just a fair bit of common sense but you could go nuts with some of the guidelines... talking of nuts...

@Riverrose - WE CAN EAT PEANUTS?! shovels them into mouth

@Emmasmum2013 - It could just be a separate suite that's there to encourage a more relaxed and less clinical birth. They've got them here a lot. It's meant to help with easing the stress of labouring mothers.

Crissy83 · 29/12/2017 11:57

Yes I use Pregnancy+ and BabyCentre too! Im also taking some of the advice with a rather large pinch of salt but I like the daily updates on growth etc!

SpriteGirl · 29/12/2017 13:05

Hi everyone. Been a while since I posted. Hope everyone's had a nice Christmas break.

Had my booking in appointment this morning. Unfortunately it wasn't with my own midwife as she was off but the midwife I did see was very nice.

As my BMI is on the low side the consultant may want me to have extra scans. I am also aware that I have fibroids in my uterus and depending on the position and if they grow in pregnancy I might be offered a c section.

I also have a choice of midwife led delivery room but I want the option of an epidural so I've told them that today.

Emmasmum2013 · 29/12/2017 13:12

Me too Crissy83, the growth pictures are good to look at and see what is developing and when.

@Hortonlovesahoo - yes I think thats the idea.

Aspergallus · 29/12/2017 13:20

Hello, can I join? I'm so very old at 41 and if all goes well this will be DC3. I have DS6 and DS3, will be 7 and 4 on arrival of this one.

All pregnancies have been a bit hard to achieve with countless chemical pregnancies in between, hence my late start (and hopefully completion!)

Due on 31st Aug although never reached 40w previously -39w, then 37w. Already feeling utterly horrible so pretty sure this one has stuck for now. Tests immediately turn darkly positive now so hormones rising as they should.

How can I have forgotten, third time round, the nausea, the dizziness, the exhaustion, the tachycardia, the palpitations, the feeling too warm, the sore boobs, tender tum...really want to keep this quiet as long as possible given my age and the risks but it's going to be hard. From memory, in the past, I have only started to feel reasonably well again about 16w.

Am I the oldest here now?

StrawberryLemonade · 29/12/2017 13:39

Hi Aspergallus! Wouldn’t worry even if you are the oldest I think there’s quite a wide variation Smile

I’m really nervous now cos I’ve booked an early scan for later on today. After saying I wasn’t paying for one here I am!

All being well I’m expecting to be consultant led probably as I had ICP last time and had to be induced at 37 weeks. My local unit only has delivery suite anyway not a midwifery centre so doesn’t really make a difference for me. I needed epidural and an instrumental delivery last time too so I’d rather have Doctors on hand!

Babydreaming · 29/12/2017 13:44

@spritegirl I have the same BMI related issue! I had an extra scan last time and they did think my baby wasn’t going to be super small. I had to have growth scans every few weeks after that. He was born at term at 6lb15oz though so not too bad! It was nice to have extra scans on NHS although didn’t make me really worried he wasn’t growing properly!

Babydreaming · 29/12/2017 13:45

Sorry i meant DID make me worried.

Looks like this thread isn’t filling up fast! I can make another?

Hortonlovesahoo · 29/12/2017 14:00

@babydreaming: good idea!

@aspergallus : welcome to the thread :) I think your body has a great way of amnesia post pregnancy so you don’t remember!

Here it is! Apologies to the newbies who I haven’t added on but I was doing it from my phone so difficult to go through and add all the due dates etc!

LadesC · 29/12/2017 15:41

@strawberrylemonade ... i had Icp in my last preg too and ended up being induced.

Asper im 41 in about 5 days so almost with you!

Got antibiotics today as have been so ill over xmas with awful cough and pretty much sofa bound for days.

Hana327 · 29/12/2017 17:31

@E2017 that is appalling behaviour it clearly states that you don't have to tell work until a certain point in your pregnancy if you don't want 2!

I have had horrible All day sickness and I am now on anti-sickness tablets as I can't keep food or water down without them! I know that this can be a good sign as it shows the hormones are working but not great when you feel terrible!

WeAllShine · 29/12/2017 19:14

Hi everyone, I’ve been reading but not able to post as having a pretty shitty week. Flew over to stay with my parents for a week on Saturday (I’m in Germany too BertieBotts Smile ) and ended up in a&e that night with DD2, viral tonsillitis. She had fever around 40 for five days, had to go back last night and they discovered a chest infection too. So she’s on antibiotics now and thankfully getting better. Then I started bleeding this morning so spent hours in the hospital again getting checked out, was pretty rubbish as they weren’t even going to scan me as no one available but I was so upset a lovely nurse took pity and spoke to a consultant who agreed to do it unofficially...the sac is there, embryo and a heartbeat but it’s smaller than my dates suggest so not totally convinced all is well but wil just have to wait til we are back and can see my gynae.

Welcome to all the newbies and hope everyone is feeling ok despite morning sickness et al!

SpriteGirl · 29/12/2017 22:06

@Babydreaming thanks for the info. Yes it’s a double edged sword. Nice to have the extra scans but of course you worry your baby may not be ok.

amzq87 · 30/12/2017 09:57

Sounds like you've had a rough one @WeAllShine - love and hugs to you and hope all turns out well x

Lphil93 · 30/12/2017 10:15

Guys I need your advice... I'm due August 2018. I've been working for my company for nearly 2 years and when I told them I was pregnant they basically said after maternity I have to return doing 6 days a week or not at all. I've ready my contract... it's well within their rights to say that unfortunately...

I was planning on having maternity then quitting but then surely they'll make me pay back my maternity pay?

Anyone have any advice?!?!?

SpriteGirl · 30/12/2017 10:32

What does it say in your maternity leave policy about paying back maternity pay? I’ve never heard of this to be honest. Some of your maternity pay is statutory and therefore rightfully yours by law. You then have whatever maternity package your employer offers on top of this. Most employers require employees to be in post a minimum length of time before they qualify to receive the employers contribution but once you’ve met that you receive it and that’s that. It’s yours whether you decide to leave or stay after. But this may depend on your company’s own policies so you’ll need to read up on this and maybe seek some advice on employment law from an independent party (i.e. not your own HR department).

SpriteGirl · 30/12/2017 10:40

Sorry I stand corrected I have just asked my husband who is a head of service. He says yes some contributions are given on the basis that you are returning and therefore some may have to be paid back. But this may depend on the length of maternity leave you take, he isn’t sure.

Hettyturnip · 30/12/2017 10:41

I’m a teacher and for us there’s a minimum time to be employed to qualify for enhance maternity pay. Then you can choose whether to received it monthly (on a declining scale) or receive it once you return to work. Once you’ve had the money you are required to work for at least 1 term, if full time, or more if part time depending upon your hours. I was considering leaving work after mat leave, but we need the money so i’d have to go back for a bit.

My friend (non teacher) had full pay for a year as her enhanced mat pay (amazing) and didn’t have to pay it back when she left at the end of the year!!!!

You really have to read the contracts carefully as everywhere seems to do it differently.

amzq87 · 30/12/2017 12:03

I'm in the NHS - I have to return to work for a minimum of 3 months after maternity leave or I have to pay back what my employer contributed to me (everything minus stat mat basically) - I think it must vary employer to employer though x

Lphil93 · 30/12/2017 12:24

Thanks guys! Guess I'd better start looking into it :(
