I’d rather stay on mn for now but potentially Facebook further down the line Smile have had both positives and negative experiences of the fb groups. Maybe I just have trust issues Blush
I haven’t caught up today as been really busy but I’ll try and read back!

spydie · 28/12/2017 21:29

Thanks Gizzy.

I'd rather stay on MN. Didn't have a very positive experience of a FB group last time I'm afraid!!

pestov · 28/12/2017 21:34

Seriously struggling with constipation here too. I did wonder to myself whilst seemingly pooping pebbles if this is what it feels like to be a drug trafficker! It certainly wasn't this bad or early last time around Confused

TheGrumpySquirrel · 28/12/2017 21:39

I have stopped taking my iron supplements and the constipation has eased. You only need vitamin D and folic acid.

Think I'm doing ok. Bit crampy on and off tonight which has worried me slightly. Getting more tired every day. I'll be 6 weeks on Saturday. Just counting the days till I can go and get a scan (trying to hold out till 8 weeks).

TheGrumpySquirrel · 28/12/2017 21:39

Oh and pears, and coffee 👍🏼 did the job

Gizzymum · 28/12/2017 21:50

I'd rather MN than Facebook until they're here if that's ok? When my last group went to Facebook I had to hide them from my newsfeed as I was missing stuff from all my real life friends (if you know what I mean). Now I probably miss loads from my antenatal/postnatal group instead. I find MN much easier to keep track of.

Peoniesandcats · 28/12/2017 22:05

@E2017 sounds awful, would definitely speak with HR first then have a chat in your 1:1 with your manager to address what was said. Hopefully that will stop the office gossip.

I've got my booking on 12th and 12 week scan on 23rd Smile had to call/chase the antenatal clinic to make the appointments today as I hadn't heard anything.

Hortonlovesahoo · 29/12/2017 06:43

Thanks girls! I’ll have a look for the laculose in the chemist.

@kiki275: I’ll give the Licorice tea a go!

I’m happy for either MN or FB.

StrawberryLemonade · 29/12/2017 07:16

Have a google about liquorice tea before anyone tries it - I can’t remember the exact reasons but it’s definitely in my head as something to avoid in pregnancy!

Hortonlovesahoo · 29/12/2017 07:54

@strawberrylemonade: good catch!

Taken from livestrong:
“Unsafe During Pregnancy. Licorice root may mimic the effects of estrogen, a female sex hormone, and may induce premature labor in pregnant women. Consequently, women who are pregnant should not use licorice root or any derivative or whole licorice. The safety of licorice root in nursing women has not been evaluated.”

I’ve been drinking peppermint and licorice tea a lot!

StrawberryLemonade · 29/12/2017 08:11

In my last pregnancy I was eating a liquorice stick and my friend told me off - I had no idea liquorice wasn’t safe! Although guessing tiny quantities is probably fine. Just might be best to avoid the tea just in case! Smile

milney25 · 29/12/2017 08:39

I had my booking in appointment yesterday, everything feels a bit more real now. I got the appointment for my 12 week scan, three weeks today, I was hoping it would be a few days earlier as I'm incredibly impatient!

I was wondering if anyone recommend any tracking apps? Although I'm conscious I should wait until 12 weeks...

Gizzymum · 29/12/2017 08:50

I didn't know about liquorice either and my DH got me some for Xmas (I don't particularly like it but had been eating bits).

I use the Glow app - the chat room bit is American so I ignore that but it's ok for days to go/today your baby is the size of a....

amzq87 · 29/12/2017 08:54

@milney25 I use the bounty one - didn't even think about waiting, just downloaded it alongside the mumsnet one haha!

It's got good articles, offers, does a days to go, shows you what little one looks like and also tracks estimated foot size x

Gizzymum · 29/12/2017 08:58

I also liked Pregnancy+ (the image is a little baby's head in the womb). I just updated that app for this pregnancy and it said my EDD is 19th Aug which is 3 days later than a different calculator I used. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Babydreaming · 29/12/2017 09:33

@gizzymum it might be that some calculators adjust for different cycle lengths. Most generic ones based on 28 day cycle but some adjust so for example if I use one that doesn’t adjust it puts me as 6w5d according to my LMP but I have 31 day cycles so actually if you adjust for that I’m 6w2d :) if that makes sense?

Kiki275 · 29/12/2017 09:44

Sorry I missed the guidelines on that as I don't particuarly like the taste. NHS says its fine in moderation - just avoid the herbal remedy licorice root
www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/foods-to-avoid-pregnant.aspx#Liquorice

Saying that, I'm using the Flo app, it had a survey about what women should(n't) do during pregnancy. One said you shouldn't pump your own gas (or do it with caution). Another said you should avoid stairs as your centre of gravity is thrown out and you may fall. Seriously WTF!

Emmasmum2013 · 29/12/2017 10:34

There was one on the BabyCentre app the other day - "Is it safe to use a mobile phone while expecting?" The consensus of the article was yes it is safe. Talk about scaremongering and click-bait titles. I can't remember if it was that bad 4 years ago when I had my first, or my level of cynicism for the amount of BS they throw at pregnant mothers has risen since having DD and realising that the stress I felt when pregnant was mainly due to stuff like these apps that put so much pressure on you to do all this extra stuff that is just so unnecessary!
On the Pregnancy+ app, there is a to-do list feature. This week it suggests that I find a toluene and formaldehyde free nail polish (amongst other apparently essential things to spend my time on).
Most nail polishes have been toluene and formaldehyde have been removed from most mainstream nail polish brands since about 2006. But if I was a worrier that might really get to me!

...I've realised this is turning into a rant, sorry.
But my advice to any new mums is to just be as chill as possible and don't worry about all the rubbish that comes up on these apps. They're creating an industry for themselves and making a fair wedge of cash from it too. I think as long as you avoid the no-no foods and smoking, drinking etc... you'll be fine!

E2017 · 29/12/2017 10:40

Thanks for the advise again ladies. Really appreciate it.

I'm sad enough to have 2 apps. Both have interesting articles etc as well as progress. One is The bump, the other is baby centre.

RiverRose · 29/12/2017 10:46

No worries about FB group. Maybe we can give it a few weeks and make one for tgose who would like to join one Smile

As for apps, I have Bounty and Ovia for tracking. I used Ovia for TTC and then to help schedule IVF.

Rules about what to do/not to do in pregnancy seems to change all the time. Nothing like it was 12 years ago with DC#1 and even 7 years ago with DC#2.

One change I am glad about is now being allowed to eat peanuts Grin

Emmasmum2013 · 29/12/2017 10:51

Had what I thought was my booking appointment this morning... but it was just a quick appointment with the midwife at my GPs to see if I can be midwife led. If so and everything is ok, then when I go into labour I can go into one of the midwife led delivery rooms. Which is more like a homely room with a birthing pool and comfy furniture etc.
I think this is a relatively new thing, but does anyone have any experience of this?
The midwife said there was gas and air in there and TENS machine etc, but no bed (which I thought was really weird) and no access to other pain relief but they can always move me if I wanted some at any point.

I asked about the spotting I'd had at week 4 and the on and off pregnancy symptoms and she gave me the number for the early pregnancy clinic at the hospital and said to ring them if I want their advice. I might do a clear blue test later and see how many weeks it reckons and go from there. I don't feel half as pregnant as I did last time.

milney25 · 29/12/2017 11:05

Thanks everyone for the suggestions for apps. I'm going to bite the bullet and download one.

@Emmasmum2013 they mention the 'birthing suite' to me at my booking in appointment, sounds similar, but the ones at my local hospital to have a bed! I'm going to look around as I liked the sound of it. She actually said it's 'less harrowing' 😱😱😱

I asked about spotting since week 4 and on and off symptoms and she seemed totally unconcerned. I have had a scan at the EPU with a heartbeat seen. I had some lower left pain accompanying the spotting and the Gp sent me to rule out ectopic. They were super friendly at the EPU when I called worried about it.

Emmasmum2013 · 29/12/2017 11:10

I've googled it and the ones at my hospital do seem to have a hospital bed... maybe the midwife meant like a proper double bed? Some of the pics from other places look like posh hotel rooms!
I can't imagine giving birth and not needing a lie down afterwards!
I'll ask for more info when I have my proper booking appointment, that's on the 12th Jan. Seems ages off!

milney25 · 29/12/2017 11:18

Yes, when you put it like that they must have a bloomin bed!!

Gizzymum · 29/12/2017 11:20

Most hospitals do tours of the delivery suites and midwife led units I think. Mine did and there was very little difference between the two at mine. The MLU didn't have as much monitoring stuff and only did Gas and air or water birth (I think, my labour was too quick to ask for other pain relief). If induced I'd have to give birth in the delivery suite for the extra monitoring.
The positive for MLU was that the post natal ward only had 4 beds whereas the delivery suite ones were 8 bed.
I wouldn't worry about this stuff just yet anyway. I think people go to look round at about 7mths pregnant.
