Crikey!

Glad all's well with your lo though and let's hope that it continues to be so.

Take care of yourself.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 15/04/2007 17:26

Wow, Julie, that must have been scary. Very pleased to hear all is OK. Fingers crossed your LO stays put for a few more weeks.

MKG · 15/04/2007 17:59

Julie,

Good to hear that everything is ok.

MrsJaffa,

Thanks for the thoughts I hate the last two months of pregnancy.

Lwatkins · 15/04/2007 18:38

HELLO!!!!!

Am back in sunny old Bristol, missing my home already though sob, sob! Never mind, think positive - 3 weeks left till I can go back home!

Oh I've missed so much I'll never catch up but would like to say a huge congrats to everyone who's naughty babies have arrived early. I hope your enjoying them. I hope the rest of you are all ok too, I will attempt to try and catch up whilst eating my HUGE plate of scampi and chips (yum, yum) but can't promise I'll do a good job!

I'll be back in a few hours, I mean seriously ladies I've never known chatterboxes like you. Have some consideration for those of us who are ahem, pregnantly challenged in the 'using of ones mind' at the present time.

LW x

cameroonmama · 15/04/2007 18:48

Gosh, Julie that sounds terrifying but I am glad everything is ok, you sound very calm.

Lovely to hear everyone has been enjoying the sun and to hear Arlen's fabulous progress.

We have had our last official childless weekend away probably for eternity as noone will want to look after 3 children.. The dcs went to PIL, who are very ancient, all had a ball, all woke up at 5.30am and we are now paying the price, bedtime is early tonight! In the meantime dh and I went to a swanky hotel in Henley on Thames, blew far too much money, felt like total country bumpkins even our Ford Focus wasn't prestigious enough to place in the hotel forecourt but got whisked away to an underground cave Our naivety showed once more when we thought the valet man was so kind to take our car and park it only to find out when checking out that we were charged 15 smackeroonis for the priviledge! It was a 40th birthday party and I managed to stay up until midnight! Not bad for a country bumpkin. But it was soooo hot, I couldn't cope! Imagine the shame of it, 7 years of living in the heat in sub saharan Africa and the girl can't cope with a measly bit of UK sun.

I am also yet to tour my labour ward but it is a very small country hospital and apparently is quite quiet, but I may transfer to a community hospital where I went last time where they do lovely things like bring you steaming mugs of hot chocolate at 3am in the morning, when you feel like crap and the shower is clean

ShowOfHands · 15/04/2007 18:48

Woohoo, you're back and you survived the stroppy sister!

What precisely is scampi? I've seen it on menus.

ShowOfHands · 15/04/2007 18:49

Hey cameroonmama I look after my three godchildren for one weekend a month and am happy to do so! Don't despair...

cameroonmama · 15/04/2007 18:53

SOH, what an amazing godmother you are, almost fairylike in your qualities, where can I get one?

cameroonmama · 15/04/2007 18:55

Welcome back LW, I didn't realise you were in Bristol, I'm just down the road. Will you come back after the baby comes?

ShowOfHands · 15/04/2007 18:56

I can be hired for gingerbread and earl grey. Aah I love looking after them, it's great fun.

cameroonmama · 15/04/2007 18:57

I make the best gingerbread in the west country

Pinkjenny · 15/04/2007 19:04

Anyone else's feet and ankles like balloons?

cameroonmama · 15/04/2007 19:06

Pink, I never normally swell up but after a weekend in Henley I look like some OAP, anyone got any tips?

Pinkjenny · 15/04/2007 19:11

Apparently we have to raise our legs higher than our heart. The problem is after lying on my back for a significant period I start to get a bit out of breath and my lower back starts to hurt.

I've been putting cold flannels on my ankles which seems to have helped a little bit.

I never normally swell either, only a bit occasionally in my fingers, but this weekend has removed my ankles completely. Not attractive at all.

Work clothes are definitely a problem if the weather stays like this. I've been to New Look today and bought a white and a black vest, £4 each from the Bloom maternity range. I am sick of buying maternity clothes but had no short sleeved tops really. They're quite nice, show off my newly acquired bingo wings to great effect.

largeginandtonic · 15/04/2007 19:21

Evening ladies.

Have been on the tour, was quite funny. Lots of anxious looking couples, no screaming womaen in labour on the ward though. Two couples were hysterical, one woman kept asking ridiculous questions about private rooms and if you were private did you have to give birth in the same room as everyone else??? Another couple, the husband kept asking where the showers and baths were for his wife to use after the birth!!!! DH and i mooched quietly......the pool they have there was nice though. The wards were clean and much nicer than Portsmouth. You can have tv, internet and phone on the patient line service right next to your bed (yahoooooo)

I will be in theatre and on to the postnatal ward anyway, no labour room for me this time Baby still breech and headbutting my ribs.

Lwatkins nice to have you back my sweet. Glad you survived the little sister

DH has made ricotta and spinach stuffed giant pasta for tea, i smell it mmmmmmmmm

Kids all off tomorrow for an inset day, so we are all going to toddlers. People yay!

AbbyLou · 15/04/2007 19:22

Wow Julie, glad everything's ok with your lo. I bet that gave you a real fright.
SOH the countryside around near you looks beautiful. Dh is desperate to go on a barge holiday but I just can't see me doing it with him, let alone a 2 year old and new baby! I think his idea of stopping at every pub on the way maybe scuppered with 2 kids in tow!
I agree about maternity clothes, I feel like if I but any more now it will be a complete waste of money with only 4 weeks to go. I have 3 short sleeved tops and nothing cool for the bottom half. According to weather it's going to cool down on Tuesday - I normally love the sun but here's to a few cooler days to recharge the batteries and get washing of t-shirts done!
Well, maternity leave officially starts tomorrw as everyone is back to school round here. It feels brilliant actually to have no new term folder to sort out tonight. I spoke to my friend at work earlier and she was stressing over plans not done and preparation for Sats - I felt really smug!

ShowOfHands · 15/04/2007 19:31

Oh dear our inlaws want us to go on a barge holiday with them once the baby is here. Could be interesting. Have been on lots of narrow boat holidays, they are fantastic amounts of fun.

LG&T didn't realise all hospitals don't have that Patient line thing by the bed. When my friend had her third last year the midwives activated the Internet, TV etc for free (not sure how).

Very pleased with myself. Just won two wrap slings off ebay, one for me, a bigger one for DH. Happy.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 15/04/2007 19:41

Hey LW, great to have you back!!

SOH your are doing it again! lol,
Anyway it is a breaded shellfish normally deepfried but can be oven cooked, served with chips and sometimes peas and lots of tare tare sauce. Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm Naughty but nice.

lg&t, your tour sounds great, at the questions. Dormitory births sounds exciting! I'm sorry your little monkey hasn't turned yet, you are very calm about it.

cameroonmama · 15/04/2007 19:43

Wow I didn't know about that patient line thingy, it definitely wasn't in my community hospital, a cup of hot chocolate at 3am is not the same thing.. I shall be investigating.

LOL LG&T at the couple asking about the private rooms, my dh asked if there were any private rooms at the hospital and the midwives gave each other one of those glances.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 15/04/2007 19:44

oh I forgot, I phoned my bf when she has ds2 on one of those patient lines. OK I was calling from France but I was 6 minutes on the phone and it cost me 22?

Mrsjaffabiffa · 15/04/2007 19:45

had, even and sorry it didn't like my Euro symbol.

twelveyeargap · 15/04/2007 21:03

I'm officially bored of being pregnant today. I feel fat, hot, tired, lethargic... I cannot find the energy to do anything at all. I haven't fed my family proper food for two days. We're subsisting on cheese sandwiches and nutella sandwiches. No matter what way I lie, the baby hurts me by poking me in various places. Bored, bored, bored. I just want to lie on my stomach and read a book.

My mum is coming on Tuesday and now I wish she wasn't becuase it took me two hours to do the Tesco online shop becuase I couldn't think straight. Don't know how I'm going to actually get meals done.

Moany, moan, moan.

twelveyeargap · 15/04/2007 21:11

Did I mention I feel like I need to go to the loo CONTSTANTLY?

OK, I'll shut up now. I am very much aware of how lucky I am...

drkgpink · 15/04/2007 21:22

Hello all, think I've just about caught up after a few days away from the internet. Seems whilst on mat leave I've been too busy to get to the computer!!!! Had our last night out for a while, managed til 11:30 not bad for 36 1/2 weeks I think. Fantastic weather here in sheffield as long as you're not pregnant!!!

Pink Jenny - yes my feet are swollen and sore, the sanctuary mum to be foot spritz is soothing and it smells nice!!!

Julie - what a way to avoid the parents meeting, pleased everything is ok, take it easy!!

Abbylou, I'm from skeggy too, parents still live there, what a small world.

Scooter - let me know when you're going to be in sheff, a meet up sounds good.

April - ella is gorgeous, how strange to think that the picture below was taken only a few hours prior to her arrival!!

LG and T, very funny about your friends baby William Ruben, how did the staff keep a straight face at that one I wonder??

Finally welcome westendwoman.

Hope everyone gets some sleep and their not too hot tonight.

scootermum · 15/04/2007 21:25

Evening all,
Well have just spent the last hour at the emergency Drs with DD-she has been sleepy and floppy all day which I put down to the heat, but when was undressing her noticed a rash which failed the glass test-so off we went-she is fine but better to be safe than sorry..

Scary, Julie-glad all is well...

Welcome back on Lwatkins..

Bonsoir Mrs JB..

You can give birth for me MKG-Im ruddy petrified now-made mistake of watching baby channel yesterday, programme following someone in labour-have officially got the fear...

Have made soup, and got all newborn baby clothes down from the attic in prep for washing-though must say they have been in those vacume bags and smell very fresh indeed to say they have been up there over a year..
SOH Do you remember a while ago I mentioned I have a few breast feeding bits, freezer bags and what not that you could have if you wanted as I wont be using?(Was going to give you them in London if we met)Have them here ready to post if you still want them plus some clothes for Mathilda if you'd like, (DD had about 3000 baby gros it seems and I wont use them so someone else might as well have em if they want and as I will be posting to you anyway...no pink, promise..)So if you still want the bits drop me an email on [email protected] tomorrow and send me your address? Also APRILMEADOW-I have a preemie cardie that might suit Ella, (pink so no good for Arlen, Lupins)so if you send me your addy to the above email I will send that if you like?

Got quite sentimental getting all DDs tiny things out..and got very excited about Mae coming..

Got to send all the emails out re the bumps and babes group im co ordinating now-then put the clean sheets on the bed-then get in it, am knackered...

Will text you in the morn to see if you are still on for tomorrow TYG...

Re the barge hols BTW-Great fun with mates/kids but I counsel against going with inlaws-a week stuck on a small boat with MIL and FIL going 4 miles an hour and messing about with locks and I was quite ready to chuck myself in, it was certainly no picnic...The breaking point arrived when FIL who fancied himself a boatman nearly steered us over a weir despite us all yelling at him from the stern or whatever you call it that he was going the wrong way-we had to be rescued by a very cross lock keeper in front of alot of tourists in Stratford apon Avon..Meanwhile MIL in floods of tears...shudder to think...
