Morning all, new thread for today.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bensonbluebird · 14/04/2007 19:25

Welcome Westendwoman. I was measuring a bit small but the last midwife I saw says everything is fine. The next step would have been to send me for a scan, have you done that yet? Have you consistently been measuring small? if so then it could just be the way you are carrying. If it looks like the growth has slowed down then I think that is more of an indication that they might need to do something about it. That said I think both measurements and scans are notoriously unreliable. Measurements are only really a good indication if it is the same person has measured you each time and they measure you properly (from the public bone) and use a proper tape measure. Do you feel everything is ok? (difficult question when you are bound to be worried by being told that the baby is small) I'm inclined to think that how you feel might be the best indication of whether anything is really wrong or not.

Glad you are feeling better Scoot. Think I will have to ban superglue too. I think I may also be entering the losing it faze of pregnancy. Last time in my last month I lost my watch, a £20 note, can't remember what else. This time I have lost an umbrella which I have had since I was 13 (and which was truly hideous)and my buggy lock. Nothing too important yet...

The weather has been fab hasn't it? went to the city farm this morning and for a run about in the woods this afternoon. Long may it continue, though I am really glad I don't have to go through the summer pregnant.

westendwoman · 14/04/2007 20:08

Bensonbluebird - it was at a scan that I was told the baby was small although I was sent for another scan 2 weeks later and they said baby is growing on 9th Centile and amniotic fluid & blood supply are fine. My 1st baby was just under 7lbs at full term so it's probably just genentic. The obstetrician has freaked me out a bit by saying they will induce at 39 weeks as it is dangerous for small babies to go over term He said 'sometimes the babies die'. I didn't really want to hear these two words in the same sentence.

AbbyLou Not sure exactly where Skegggy is but I live nearer to Scotland than that. The bit of the map with a fog cloud on it in fact.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 14/04/2007 20:11

Abbylou, Glad dh is ok. I'm in the Charante, SW France, about an hour inland from La Rochelle and about 4hrs SW of Paris. It is lovely here, we are very happy.

Westendwoman, I always measure small on the tape measure, this is my third pregnancy and with all of mine I have been 3 weeks behind on measurements. ds was 7lb 10oz and dd was 7lb 7oz so I think I must carry my babies in my back. Probably why my back hurts so bloody much.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 14/04/2007 20:15

Nice obsy there then. pah, tact?
I was induced with dd, 11 days late, FWIW don't believe all you hear about inductions, mine was fantastic, I loved it and I will be able to have an elective induction at 39 weeks this time if I want to.

scootermum · 14/04/2007 20:44

Evening all,
oh tyg-Im so sorry re the frocks-totally forgot to go and get them .Will refund you your p and p on Monday...duh-It just shows that I am not a functioning human being..I have some of those trousers-are yours the ones that tie up at the waist?Ideal pg wear IMO!
Ur DH has certainly got some stamina, in at dawn-I'll give him that!Last time I managed to stay up past about 3 was last years v fest and that was really only as the next door tent were being raucous, so there was no point in going to bed..least you know he will be able to cope with the sleepless nights when the baby comes[hmmm]

All this talk of pools...sigh..might take dd to the lido tomorrow if it stays warm-I cant swim though as no fitting swim suit..very jealous anyway..

Welcome on Westendwoman..hope it warmed up where you are in the end..

Sending you all the best Sam..let us know how its going..

We have been to the beach today-so DD could have her first walk on sand and a paddle-she was so cute-a bit nervous at first as she has only ever seen the sea from her buggy when very small-but she got into it and we couldnt get her out in the end..lovely as well as so warm but not blowing a gale on the coast for once..(P and T coped admirably with sand too!)I had a lie down on the blanket-and got stuck as back seized up and couldnt flip whale like self over-I now know exactly how a beetle feels when it gets stuck on its back!DH had to practically winch me up much to the amusement of onlookers...my feet have really swollen today too, which can only be a precursor to my face swelling, like it did last time-to balloon like proportions-the one thing about being pg that is guaranteed to make me cry..I hate it!
Know what people mean about wanting this to be over now-I just want to skip the swelling part and get on with the next bit...

Did anyone win any money on the National? Not a penny in the Scoot house...

DH fussing now as predicted by me last week, as he hasnt done enough revision yet for his exams-so now he is spending all day tomorrow in the library, leaving me with dd to mind-which I wouldnt be bothered about but am knackered and could use an hour or two on my own if im to avoid becoming very tetchy..hey ho-either lido or park it will be I think-plus Tescos which will fill an hour or so..

Going to bed in a bit with my book..wild!

LupinsBigLump · 14/04/2007 22:31

AM Ella is gorrrrggggeous, well done you xx, and thanks for my lovely card, can u text me you addy pls

LGT thankyou for lovely card

Welcome West, hope you have an enjoyable last few weeks, if they were that worried about babies size they would have you in straight away, the fact that the blood flow and placenta are fine is a good indication that it isnt too much to worry about, also it is hard for them to be too accurate on sizing - they thought Arlen was going to be 2 3/4 lb as it turned out he was 3.4lb - quite a differance

Abbeylou - we had the same problem with our one of those pools, how often were you changing your filter, apparently they only last 2 weeks, problem was that b&q stopped selling them in august as it was supposedly end of season and they were getting xmas stuff in, we got an algea brush from the local ppet shop that was good for keeping it a bit cleaner

Sunny sam, so glad to here your good news, hope everything goes well this time, altho will probably be a while until you can relax and enjoy your pg, hugs to you

Pebble well done on win, I have been plaing on bingosuk for a over a year now and when they found out i had had Arlen they sent me £100, couldnt believe it - quickly banked that b4 it got blown on bingo

I am soooooo chuffed with my little man he had a go at breastfeeding today and did brilliantly, we tried this morning and he latched on after about 10 minutes of mouthing and just having nipple in his mouth, then when i went back this afternoon he latched on and sucked for about 5-10 minutes then fell asleep absoluty knackered, bless him he has also gone upto 3lb 8 oz - omg he's huge lol, he has go no more monitors or wires and he has gone back in incubator as his jaundice level was back up, he just gets so much better and improving everyday, cant believe he was nearly 2 months early and is now 9 days old, dd also had had her 1st hold of him today and she was good as gold really careful and gentle

Going to have bbq tomorrow if dp cheers up grumpy git, enjoy the sunshine all, going to get to bed - really need to start expressing at night but at the same time am trying to make the most of my last few weeks of sleeping all night - I know that will come to and end once little man arrives home

MKG · 15/04/2007 00:26

At 34 weeks should I be walking around feeling tightenings all day? I just want this baby to come today.

I'm done I tell you . . .I'm done.

LupinsBigLump · 15/04/2007 06:16

Awwww MKG I feel for you the last bit is the worse (well apart from the beginning if you had ms) maybe your lo will make a slightly earlier arrival,

AbbyLou · 15/04/2007 09:07

Morning all, hope everyone had a restful night.
Lupin your little man sounds like he's doing so well. I bet you were chuffed to bits when he breastfed properly, makes you feel a bit more like you're doing somethng 'proper' for him. Glad his big sis was allowed her first cuddle!
Call me mad but we're off to Ikea Nottingham in a bit - I know, it's Sunday! My sister is here and doesn't get the chance to go very often as it's too far and she desperately wants some vases for the table decorations at her wedding - what could I say? Gives me an excuse to go round the big Next looking at baby stuff and need to get ds some sandals now the weather is warmer. It's a bit gloomy here at the moment but it started like that yesterday too so I'm sure it's going to warm up.
Hope everyone has a lovely day, after braving Ikea we're just going to have a picnic i the garden and await the arrival of dh back from Blackpool.

Pinkjenny · 15/04/2007 09:13

Hi girls

I too, am done with being pregnant.

Went shopping with my mum yesterday, picked her up at half past nine, and got home at twenty five to six. When we had to prise my wedding and engagement rings off and my ankles had totally disappeared, we finally had to concede that, just maybe, we'd overdone it a bit. The mind is willing, but the body definitely isn't. And I'm only 34 weeks. Another five and a half weeks seems ridiculous.

I also think I've got this Carpal Tunnel thing. The fluid in my hands is crazy, they are so stiff and claw like.

I got a letter from the doctors surgery yesterday, saying to contact them to make an appointment to discuss my blood test results. Apparently, 'there is no cause for alarm'. I must have a reputation at the GP surgery for being slightly over-dramatic.

On a more positive note, ordered my Bugaboo yesterday, which comes in 5 days, and ordered all my nursery furniture. Got my nightie for the birth in Primark, bright pink with white spots (sorry SOH), with a secret support thing in it to stop me sitting on my norks. Also got a pair of pjamas. Mum bought all my bottles and sterilizer etc yesterday, but wouldn't let me see what she'd bought. So cute.

And apparently I now can't eat a meal without slopping it all down myself.

And I hate the heat. Mrs JB, come and collect me immediately and dispense me into your pool.

largeginandtonic · 15/04/2007 09:38

Oh we are a cheery bunch arent we! The last few weeks are slow and boring, you want to do so much but just cant manage it.

Welcome western nice to have you with us for these last couple of weeks. You could be any time now!

Sam i remember you, another crazy that wanted 6 Very sorry to hear about your little boy in December. Fantastic news about this pregnancy though, will be keeping a close eye out for you. Do you chat to Kitty at all? She has just had her #6.

Am going on a hospital tour today with dh. Am hoping it wont scare the bejesus out of me, sure it will be fine. Am still gearing myself up to this section > Looked on the calendar at the dates, it was horrifying. DD has her adenoids out and gromits in next weekend (poor thing). Am 36 weeks today, so it could be in 2 or 3 weeks depending on the consultant decision. I will push for weeks 38 as then i will get 4 weeks rest before going back to Portsmouth instead of 3.

Happy sunday all, no sun here only rain

ShowOfHands · 15/04/2007 10:08

Good morning all.

Sunnysam, of course we remember you and what happened in December- heartbreaking. Very pleased to hear your good news and await updates with baited breath.

Hello to new people too. And Lupins, it makes me to hear of Arlen's progress, sounds like he's doing fantastically. He was born at the same gestation as DH and looking at his baby book and albums from the first year is hilarious. He starts off as this wee scrap of a thing in an incubator and then he gets home, bulks up a bit, discovers food, becomes determined to catch up and every photo is DH With Icecream or DH Covered in Yoghurt. It's so lovely to see. I'm sure there'll be very similar albums with Arlen making up for a small start! My mum was a neonatal nurse for years and always comments about how preemie babies eventually have the best appetites.

Just thought I would buck the trend and say I'm actually still fairly content to be pregnant. I know that I might change my mind in a week or so when I hit 37 weeks, but I'm hanging on for a homebirth and every day she's still in there is one closer to being allowed a home delivery. And while the weather's nice and I can mooch about in the garden halfheartedly tickling the weeds (because gardening isn't cleaning now is it?) it doesn't seem so bad. I will admit to the 'slopping food all over me' illness that seems to dominate the last few weeks. No idea what's wrong with me but the day hasn't started until I've smeared at least two food stuffs over my ill-fitting maternity tents. Oh and I have toothpaste on my bosom too. I think I've lost all concept of my own proportions.

AM, just had a look at Ella. Is it possible to be broody and pregnant? Well done, she's beautiful.

I need to get on with some housework. El Midwife is coming on Wednesday to have a snoop round (says she doesn't care really but she has to fill in a report to say we have running water and a light). Obviously what I heard is 'I must polish everything including the curtains and clean the tin cupboard out incase she looks and then there's the washing machine which hasn't been serviced and I might rewire the kitchen a bit' etc etc. I promise I'll take it easy.

Ooh I'm having a baby soon. Can't quite believe it. I wonder what she looks like? DH I hope.

Juicylucytoo · 15/04/2007 10:45

SOH - you're not alone. I'm in no rush for the pregnancy to be over. The crap bits get me down (like there is NO comfortable position for sitting down), but I'm quite happy to wait another 6 weeks before launching into parenthood.
The weather is FAB today. Off to the lido and then a slob out in the park. LOVE London in Summer. (well summer weather )

ShowOfHands · 15/04/2007 11:07

Didn't know lidos still existed! I did read in Kensington Gardens that the Serpentine is a lido in summer. DH was in the middle of lecturing me about how the 2012 Olympic triathlon swim leg is going to be in the Serpentine. Twas lovely, sat and ate strawberries in the sunshine and watched impossibly beautiful Londoners running around the park in designer gear with little designer dogs. Wandered to Speakers Corner too and listened to a mad Jamaican man talk about the war and blues music. Strange ol' place London. Also saw how the other half live (nose pressed up against shop windows on Savile Row). Got in trouble at Horseguards as well but that's a different story entirely and I'm no longer allowed to talk to policemen.

twelveyeargap · 15/04/2007 13:50

Lidos in the UK

I am a huge fan... There's one quite near me, but I don't think it opens until May, unfortunately. When we are rich, I will bug DH to put a heated pool in our back garden. We could go bathing in the ponds at Hampsted Heath, but I think I prefer a nice chlorinated pool.

westendwoman · 15/04/2007 14:34

Hi everyone. We finally have some warm weather, yeah!! Mind you I till want to crawl into bed rather than sit in the sun.

Glad yr all enjoying your (Sun)days.

Should be a warning on Mumsnet about how addictive it is.

scootermum · 15/04/2007 15:07

I used to love the swimming ponds on the heath when we lived in London-nothing like an al fresco au naturel swim-(by which I mean natural pond not in the nud although some of the ladies in the ponds used to go in the buff-and loads of the men in the mens one-not that I was ever seen to be peering through the trees at the mens pond lol)

Good lord its hot-dd and DH have flaked out-dh is claiming he got sun stroke yesterday-ie he cant be arsed to go the library to revise-meanwhile I have braved Tesco-bedlam as people fighting over last BBQ bits, organsied the dd's bedroom drawers and tidied up the shed so we can get stuff in it now instead of opening the door to have everything fall out..
Just sitting in the backyard now and contemplating going next door to the pub for a lime and soda..I should be doing my NVQ really but feck it for once..

How long is this weather going to go on does anyone know?I love it but I was already facing a challenge clothes wise for work this next, last! week, but if its going to be this hot I am going to be sartorially challenged to say the least..My office is like a ruddy oven at the best of times and all my work clothes are going to boil me to death..God knows what TYG will make of me tomorrow!
You may want to hide once you see what garb I eventually put together tonight!

So glad Arlen is doing so great Lups! But you are right really-get some sleep and recovery in now ready for him coming home..betcha cant wait...(hell I cant wait and he isnt even my baby!)

Chin up MKG-Best of British and all that..not long now eh?

Ikea on a Sunday..you are certainly braver than me..that said if its hot maybe everyone else will be at home?I need to go to Ikea but am putting it off for now-My nearest one is Enfield where on the openeing day I believe someone got stabbed in a fight over a cut price settee-nuff said-will be taking DH with me when I go..

Enjoy the tour lgandt..I might go on the one at my hosp this time-not so long since I was there with dd I suppose but didnt really get where I was TBH-even when I go now I get lost..

enjoy the rest of the afternoon Mummies..

scootermum · 15/04/2007 15:11

Aand you can go in the Serpentine on Boxing day SOH-If you are a total mentalist...

Has anyone heard from Tam of late..hope she is ok?Plus I want to ask her a pertinent question about suitable compost for Blueberry growing...God Im a geek..Benson you were a gardener as well right?Do you need to grow Blue berries in Peat as is it acidic soil they need?

twelveyeargap · 15/04/2007 15:36

Really? In the ponds? Maybe I should try it before I knock it.

Am hot. Phew.

ShowOfHands · 15/04/2007 16:12

I go swimming in the Wash on boxing day. It's very bracing, followed by a brisk stroll along the beach and it sets you up well for Bubble and Squeak afterwards.

I live on the river, well not on it, but you know what I mean. Our balcony looks over the river and we have a boat mooring on this river here and am a stone's throw from this bit of the broads . I guess I could fling myself in either one of those if I get too hot. Quite a few pleasure craft and swans to contend with though. Have been out in my canoe today to the supermarket (I kid you not) and it was beautiful weather. Not a sunny person usually but at the moment I'm enjoying being able to laze about and paddle up the river.

MKG · 15/04/2007 16:18

I just want to give birth. I like that part. I would give birth for everyone else on this thread if someone would just be pregnant for me.

The worst part is that I can't really take care of ds the same way. Transferring him to the carseat to stroller/shopping cart, and back again is exhausting, and everytime I pick him up out of his crib I get the worst tightenings in the belly.
I feel like a crap mom right now.

Only 6+- weeks to go. Hopefully it'll be earlier.

I'm glad to hear that everyone else is doing well and having a good time. We're in the middle of a terrible rainstorm that supposed to last a few days (possibly snow!) So I'm stuck inside, which gives me an excuse not to do too much.

ShowOfHands · 15/04/2007 16:32

I'll swap with you MKG, could do another 9 months of pregnancy easily. Terrified of the end bit.

MKG · 15/04/2007 16:50

Now if science could only catch up with our needs.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 15/04/2007 17:07

Lovely pictures SOH, it looks really beautiful.

MKG, don't think anything I could say would make you feel better. I am Very ready to have my baby in my arms and not in tum but the more we think about it the longer it will drag...................; I'm trying to keep busy to make the days go faster.

juliewoolie · 15/04/2007 17:19

Hi all,

well there was me panicking about our folks meeting each other today, when I didnt need to worry at all as have just spent the last 24 hours at he Royal London.
Sitting scoffing the last of the hot cross buns yesterday afternoon when all of a sudden felt something not quite right down below. Had started to bleed. I have placenta previa so knew this could happen. Phoned the labour ward and they said come in with my bag of course as we have been so bsy decorating the most i have got organised for my bag is a few toiletries and getting a bag out the cupboard to put everything in, no pyjamas or nighties bought yet all mine dont fit so that was fun defo off to Primark this week to invest in some gigantic sized ones! All I can say is to the first timers like me the wards are like ovens industrial sized ones and very noisy not really the most comfortable of places. Advice is defo take a pillow from home hospital ones thin and nasty also invest in some ear plugs and an eye mask, the ward I was on was where you get put if you come in for obs or are being induced etc. So it meant the lights dont get turned off until after midnight and they are switched on again at 5.30. The outcome is my Little one is ok still kicking like a mad thing had one lot of steriods got to back for another tonight to make sure the lungs are devolped just in case. It does mean that the chances of having a natural birth are pretty much up the spout, but hey ho at least everything is ok

Enjoy the rest of your day ladies.
