Morning all, new thread for today.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Gingerbear · 12/04/2007 17:13

InTheseShoes - We went to Chester Zoo on BH Monday!
I am also a possible breechie (last scan 2 weeks ago was breech, midwife thinks now head down) , previous emergency c-section, and hoping for a VBAC - didn't realise we were in the same predicament.

MKG · 12/04/2007 19:07

Hey everyone!

Went to the doctor today. My appointment was 2 hours long!! Typically I'm there for all of 15 minutes nope 2 hours. I told her about my issues and she did an internal exam. Apparently I'm getting a lot of discharge due to a non-syptomatic yeast (I think you call it thrush) infection. So that is solved. Then I was given a non-stress test, and because this little lump didn't want to move they had to give me juice and were on the verge of sending me for more tests when he finally decided to kick it in gear.

I am having some contractions, but apparently nothing that is doing anything to my cervix, because it's right where it should be for 33/34 weeks.

We did talk about C-sections because since I don't know anyone that has had a vaginal delivery besides myself I'm a little concerned. She said that I will not need a section unless:

a. I have preterm labor
b. show signs of fetal distress
c. have a breech baby
d. the baby is more than 8 lbs.

So I better have a perfectly healthy, head down baby, that is born on time, and weighs between 6-8 pounds.

I'm going to lay down now because my fanjo is killing me from the internal exam.

juliewoolie · 12/04/2007 19:51

Hi all,

bit new to mumsnet have been reading threads on and off but thought i would introduce myself. I am 33+2. defo starting to panic about getting my gymnast out have placenta previa but my hospital wont tell me if i have to have a c-sec until 36 wks. Its so nice to hear everyone having the same issues as me. Am heading to the new primark to stock up on nighties. Is anyone in the east London area need to find some mummy friends to hang out with. Good luck to you all.

scootermum · 12/04/2007 19:58

Good Lord-afterpains for a year?!I had never even heard of them really--blimey thanks for the heads up-am going to take everything they offer me after the birth then I think in that case..

Feel a little better this eve and am going to try to eat some pasta..

I hope I will be ok tomorrow as its Friday so my day off anyway from work and no CM.Just DD and I so if im still sickly it will be a bugger..cant do much anyway as will be in awaiting the arrival of my beautiful Phil and Teds from largegandt!

Am considering what to buy cm for a present to say thankyou for all her hard work looking after dd-its her last day on my last day next Thurs..was thinking about some beauty salon vouchers-She is saving madly to take her 4 kids to Disney so maybe she would prefer a bit of a bonus but would it be a bit horrid to give her extra cash-she might be a bit embarassed-and I really want to get her something just for her..What are everyones thoughts?

God.If its not cricket on telly its football..going to finish pride and prejudice and try to stay awake for question time in a bit and leave dh to it!

Glad Arlen is doing so well Lupins-its so weird hearing you and April talk about buying clothes for the babies-just cant believe they are here!..Its great though

scootermum · 12/04/2007 20:02

Welcome on Julie..lovley to have a newbie at this stage in the game...
Quite a few Londoners or surrounding on the thread-but Befnal might be your nearest bet?

I wonder if we have all bought the same pj's from Primark-my ones are white with red flowers and I got a pink pair I think with a blue gingham trim-any snaps?

Mrsjaffabiffa · 12/04/2007 20:10

Hi julie, Oh a newbie........ yey. Congratulations on your pregnancy and finding mumsnet.

OHHHH, I want to go to Primark. boo hoo!!!!

MKG, Really glad you got chance to talk to someone about your plans. I'm baffled to the pre-term and the over 8lb thing leading to a c-sec? Sorry to sound stupid but are c-sec's the norm there then? What about all the American crazy loud ladies on labour and birth etc on the TV.

MKG · 12/04/2007 20:23

Welcome Julie!!!

MrsJaffa,

We have a C-sections rate of 25%+ here, so it's quite common. She told me that in her experience women that have babies over 8lbs end up going through labor and pushing and still need C-sections, so she encourages women for C-sections just to prevent a terrible experience. She said that depended on the woman and her pelvis also though. I think premature labor they prefer C-sections because they don't like to do vag deliveries if the baby is too small.

VBAC forget about it, I was just talking to a friend of mine, and my sister in law, who both may want to be pregnant again soon, and their doctors told them that a VBAC was out of the question in their professional opinion, and finding an insurance company that will cover almost impossible.

scootermum · 12/04/2007 20:45

No word from SOH then?A little worried now--

Off to bed-TYG can you text me if there is any word re SOH (or anyone) tomorrow? as wont have access till DH gets back from work..
Will get it by climbing the hill ..

Have a nice day tomorrow all..

(will never make it till the beginning of question time tonight, never mind the end-am knackered!)

drkgpink · 12/04/2007 21:00

Evening all, had mum up all day today, nice to see her but drove me mad with "don't lift that" "don't you need to put your feet up". THink she forgets that up til a week ago I was working my ass off at hospital.

saw mw today, absolutely no confidence in her assessment of position: a, she wasn't feeling deep enough and b, we went from fully engaged head to maybe frank breech to ? cephalic 4/5. Needless to say I'm off for a scan next thursday when I'll be 37 + 2 she also said any regular contractions and to go in saying there is concern over presentation - think she might be hedging her bets a bit.

Gingerbear - pleased to here your LO is head down currently.

Dejags - moan away, I hated being at work the last few weeks and I only have dh and a dog to contend with at home. How long til you finish??

Scooter - pleased to hear your LO is active again.

Lupins - glad arlen is making steady progress, seeing him have blood tests etc must be really hard, are they heel pricking for the bilirubin or getting venous blood. I hated being the doc doing the bloods on babies when i did paediatrics.

April - ella sounds delightful, 3 pushes and out WOW!!

And finally welcome aboard julie.

Those I haven't mentioned please don't be offended. Hope you're all well and nicely incubating may babies until may please!!!

InTheseShoes · 12/04/2007 21:11

I feel left out - I bought my PJs from the incredibly salubrious QS Fashions - one pair Mothercare, one pair M and S: £6 each. Also two PJ tops from Peacocks (who apparantley are the new Primark)to go with some bottoms that I already have. Now of course I realise that I can't actually give birth in them because they are pyjamas durrrrrr. Need to get a nightie from somewhere.

cameroonmama · 12/04/2007 21:13

How lovely AM to hear you have brought baby Ella home, I feel quite envious and had to stop myself buying babba clothes today.

I don't remember any afterpains, perhaps because I was dosed up after the sections, I take all the drugs they throw at me

Being slightly concerned that all mummies giving birth in May, could end up wearing matching Primark pjs I have bucked the trend and bought a splendiforous pair from Matalan. Its the new Primark don't you know

Scoot its good to hear you are feeling a bit better, I wonder what adventures SOH has been having..

MKG, gosh in america it really is scary that you can't do anything you really want to because everyone is scared of being sued.It really makes me laugh to hear you talk about your fanjo tho!

cameroonmama · 12/04/2007 21:15

cross post there intheseshoes, great minds and all that

aprilmeadow · 12/04/2007 21:48

After pains are not nice!! I hVe some this morning as i hadnt kept topped up on paracetamol - OMG i thought there was another one in there!! All ok now. Apparantly 1st timers get away with not having them but 2nd + timers dont.

Pebble - the tablets are much better. I hate fruit teas etc these you just take with hot water and swallow as you would a paracetamol.

Spent all day trying to find a snow suit/coat thing for Ella. Mothercare had naff all in. I needed Early baby clothes and they had nothing. Loads of Tiny Baby (upto 7.5lbs). Went to Reading and Basingstoke. Managed to get a snow suit in M&P in Basingstoke at 5pm. Not bad considering we left home at 11am!

She makes the cutest noises and is such a good little girl. Feeding still going well.

Hope you lovely ladies are all doing well. Will be at home more tomorrow so i will be catching up properly :-)

BefnalBub · 12/04/2007 21:50

welcome Julie - both Jucylucy and I are in the east end - where are you based? There are quite a few mnetters here - including the nct co-ordinator!

Just been to my last (4th) antenatal hospital class -must say they were superbly run and very interesting. now have the nct class for the next two saturdays with a breastfeeding one in between! not sure how much of it i'm going to need and DP will be able to do a degree in pregnancy and childbirth! He did express an interst in going to the breastfeeding class alone, should I be too tired to make it

Juicylucytoo · 12/04/2007 22:03

Welcome Julie. Befnal and I are east end girls. We're both 33 weeks too.

There is meant to be another London lunch meet-up on April 30th - Have posted on the meet-up thread:

here

Pebblemum · 12/04/2007 22:14

Evening all

My bag is finally ready, all except some pjs in case i have to stay in. I may just have to check out Primark to see what bargains i can find there. I have found some great ones in Peacocks though, they have bright stripey bottoms and a yellow vest top which has 'i need sleep' written on it which i thought was very apt for someone who has just given birth.

I have spent half the day on all fours trying to encourage this LO to shift positions. She has fidgeted a lot but always goes back to where she started Ive been getting a lot of braxton hicks and stretchy achey pains down below all day, ive also felt very tired and a bit queasy, i think shes been trying to pay me back for wanting her to move, she is obviously quite happy where she is

Juicylucytoo · 12/04/2007 22:50

Befnal - there were actually 3 dads at my breast feeding class. DH refused point blank to go. I didn't argue with him though as he was irreverent enough at the NCT classes TBH!

LupinsBigLump · 13/04/2007 06:17

Scoot i got the blue ginghmam withpink trim, and some aqua ones, also aqua spotted lightweight dressing gown

MKG glad evthing is going well

I have come out in awful rash on my tummy and boobs most unsightly

Am sat here expressing at this unearthly hour as my milk isnt keeping up with the amount he is starting to eat, very hard to stay motivated to do it and they do kind of put pressure on you at the hospital, dd said to my mum yesterday that i have no time to play with her because i am at the hospital, feel so bad for her - i have really tried to involve her its becoming a little hard espesially as its the hols and she cant escape to preschool am quite and im still tired and sore from section, she is off to an animal fun park today with her friend so hopefully she will come back a bit happier

Juliewoolie welcome, hope u have an enjoyable last few weeksof pregnancy

DRG he is getting heel pricks - tbh i dont mind them doing it but his little heels and wrists look really bruised from all the needle marks

AM nightmare trying to find early baby clothes i have to agree, glad your are both doing well

Mrsjaffabiffa · 13/04/2007 08:32

Morning all......

Lupins I'm glad you liked the card, you are very welcome and I'm pleased to hear Arlen is well. get someone to check out that rash, could it be a reaction to something?

AM, I'm sure I warned you about the after pains. naughty you not keeping your paracetamol up. Really hope to catch you later this evening, I know it's hard with a teeny one the hours just slip away.

Really starting to worry about SOH!

Am off to the toddler group again today with Maddie, it's miles away so I'll catch up tonight.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

anneme · 13/04/2007 10:08

Morning all
thank you v much for all helpful comments etc re breach/big baby....will try all diff things to turn it and then there will only be one thing (size) to worry about. I seem to remember a link to a utube vid of a couple trying to turn their baby by hanging off the sofa iyswim - will have another look at that. I guess, to be fair to my consultant, she has seen my notes which detail the patchwork that was required after a 3rd degree tear last time and is keen to avoid it. Time will tell....

I am knackered - previous 72 hrs have been rather stressful. Firstly hosp appt with all that news and then glucose test (v tedious but managed to type lots of addresses into computer so will be able to send out baby announcement cards and, in the future, xmas cards without the hassle of writing envelopes) THEN on Wed DS (aged 3 1/2) was just about to come inside to get in the bath when he fell over in the garden. LOADS of blood and it looked like a HUGE gash on his top lip. Whizzed him down to drs (2mins down the road) and they sent us to casualty. 3 stitches later we came home. DH, who had picked him up when he fell, looked like something out of texas chainsaw massacre. DS was so good - hardly cried at all and just sat on my lap firstly with a wet cloth pressed to his mouth and then for injection and stitches. Much more stoical than his mother (I had my eyes closed). Poor little boy - I have bought some arnica cream for when it begins to heal up but if anyone has any ideas for oil/cream that will reduce scarring then that would be great. He cheered up yesterday because we went to the Noddy show in Peterborough - quite scary being in a room with so many under 7's.....Can't remember who it was who was talking about their DS rampaging around but just to let you know it is normal (I hope!)...I could do without DS's focus on his willy at the moment. He has taken to asking other people if they have a willy - and informing them that his poor mummy only has a hair willy (ie pubic hair not some kind of weird addition to my lower regions that that might suggest...) Oh, the joy.

On a much more jolly note - lovely to read your birth story AM and so exciting to think of you and Lupins buying clothes for baby who is here already! My LO is NOT ALLOWED to arrive until next Thursday evening because we are away Wed pm.

Off to visualise turning baby. Am hoping today will be a little calmer than the rest of the week....

largeginandtonic · 13/04/2007 10:13

after pains....sob...they get progressively worse after each baby as your uterus is not as elastic and needs to work harder to get back to it's pre pregnancy sate. Paracetemol and brufen alternatively every 2 hours is what the lovely Kitty has said to me (kitty has just had her 6th babay too!!)

No word from SOH im going to text her in a mo.

DRpink i have a friend whose little boy born by elective section, was rh+ and his mommy rh-. He was very jaundiced and under the light at hospital for a week. There is a point to this story i promise....he had very high levels of Billiruben in his blood, obviously. They took ages to think of a name and when i went to see her after a week she said we have one...William Ruben > They had no idea that he was not inadvertantly (sp?) been called after his condition!!! I still see her now and it makes me

I saw the midwife yesterday, finally. She was lovely and turns out she is the supervisor of midwives for Derriford, useful lady to have as your midwife. The baby is breech still, i knew that. Massive head wedged under my ribs and she told me his position is like he is sat in a chair (will try and find a link later) which corresponds exactly with his kicking. She said they do accupuncture at the hospital and could attempt an ECV but as this is my 5th pregnancy it was unlikely to be successful. My uterus (poor thing) is a bit lax so he would just flip back as he has been there consistently since about 28weeks.So it looks like it will be a section. I just have to see the consultant.

Im trying to be happy and positive about it, it may take me some time to convince myself though.

Mrsjb hooray about the post office. so pleased to hear it, i will have a lovely surprise to go home to

anneme · 13/04/2007 10:21

Oooh - hadn't really thought about afterpains....think I might blank that out for now.
Lg&t - good to hear that you have a good midwife - esp after all the hassle you had getting there....your LO sounds annoyingly comfortable where it is - are you going to try hanging off sofas etc? Mine is cephalic (I think) - ie head under my left boob and bum under right boob - nice.

Have just found list when looking for links. I think it is the most recent - thought I would update it...apologies if I make any mistakes though.

Pebble I've got the same pjs as you from Peacocks - thought they would be most appropriate!
For any of you who know Derby or surrounding area, ds are off to Markeaton Park today for a picnic with NCT friends. It's a lovely park but I expect it'll be packed as it's the last day of the Easter hols.
