Oh no @FairfaxAikman that is not what you want to hear!! I keep being told about babies who brought all of the mothers insides with them as they came out. Why do people feel the need to tell us now? I guess the only positive, it’s unlikely to happen and then we can feel most relieved afterwards??

Oh well done @MrsDneedsaB, I might check that out now. Thanks!

boatrace30 · 17/11/2017 19:01

For those of you having baby no.1 I’d massively recommend the Chicco next2me crib. Or any next to bed crib! Much bigger than a Moses basket so lasts and just so convenient and easy to comfort baby. Literally my best baby buy

MrsDneedsaB · 17/11/2017 19:36

Oh noo @FairfaxAikman that’s so not what you need! People keep telling us about and the downsides and you just think...how is this helpful? To anyone!?

I’d love a next to me style crib @boatrace30 but I just don’t have the space for it. We’ve got a Moses basket with a stand and will have that in the corner of the bedroom until they’re too big for it and will then hopefully transition them to the cot. I want to try and get them sleeping independently as soon as possible because my sister had real nightmares with her son - all hopes and dreams right now haha

FairfaxAikman · 17/11/2017 20:07

Thing is, Gran is a former nurse so tends to be a bit medical. It was all in a factual manner rather than a scare story one.

Aspenn17 · 17/11/2017 21:43

Good luck tomorrow MissYeti!! Ooh I was going to wait for January sales but I might have a look at the Mothercare Black Friday sale now a few of you have mentioned it...

Had such an exciting evening! DH just felt the baby kick for the first time, about 4 or 5 times! Up until now I've just had really faint flutters but tonight I think she must be in a good position because I've felt much stronger movements! We watched an action film and I ate half a pack of strawberry laces so I think it might be a combo of the adrenaline and sugar that's helping too! Wasn't expecting him to be able to feel her for a few weeks yet!!

olicat · 18/11/2017 14:27

So exciting hearing about people's 20 week scans/finding out the sex/feeling movements! I'm really unsure as to what i can feel due to anterior placenta but am 18 weeks today so hoping I'll feel something more definite soon.

I'm keeping an eye out for the sales, really want a babyzen yoyo but don't know if they get discounted a lot as think they sell quite well anyway. Just would be perfect for living in London and not having much space!

Fairfax I HATE when people give you horror stories when you're preg. On The flipside, my friends sister had her first baby earlier this week: 6 hour labour, at home in a pool, zero pain relief. Was absolutely fine afterwards. While I feel like this is an impossible dream it's nice to hear a good story about a first birth!

MissYeti · 18/11/2017 22:28

WE ARE TEAM BLUE AND I CRIED SO HARD!! OH thought it was hilarious and took photos... Git 😂 we went shopping after and bought some really cute boy stuff!!
Wasn't expecting much from the 3D peek but my god does nugget look like his dad! 😊😊 it's been a very good day ❤

Oh and I made my gender reveal baubles for the fam, hopefully gonna deliver them on Tuesday So I don't have to wait to tell people. One thing pregnancy has taught me is that I'm awful at keeping secrets!

Huge Congrats MissYeti! So exciting!! Gender reveal baubles are such a great idea.

In terms of the whole positive birth stories thing, 2 of my friends who had babies this year had really good births, in the birthing pool, super chilled, weren't in labour for too long, few stitches but that's it. 1 had a C section and also recovered really quick and said it was fine. Trying to only listen to those types of stories!

Woken up this morning with a really painful red nipple, got shooting pains the whole way through my boob.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 19/11/2017 13:33

MissYeti congrats on your boy!! Love your baubles, such a fab idea Smile I soooo want to find out but determined not to!
Fairfax ignore the horror stories. I personally think birth involves a little bit of knowledge and a very hefty dose of luck. You could read every book ever written and do a hundred hypnobirthing courses and go to every antenatal class, and still end up with an emergency section, and likewise you could spend 9 months stressing and worrying and then pop baby out in ten minutes and be off round the shops two hours later. There's no way to know. The best thing you can do (IMO) is know your rights re birth & postnatal care (I think you're not in the UK?- so might be slightly different for you), have a basic knowledge of how positioning can affect labour, know about potential interventions/pain relief and how you feel about them all. Things that will help you feel more in control and less like it's all being done 'to' you.
Fwiw my first labour was fine, planned homebirth, regular manageable contractions from midnight, rang midwives about 3, they arrived half an hour later, baby born perfect at 5.45pm. No stitches, no problems, everyone happy. Second labour was exactly the same but 3 hours from start to finish. There are plenty of good stories, I think people just worry about coming across as smug. My philosophy has always been 'plan for the worst, hope for the best' Smile

Thelostsock · 19/11/2017 15:53

@FourForYouGlenCoco I will be remembering your birth stories from now on, and ignoring all others! They sound perfect. Thanks Smile

Sunshinesaz86 · 20/11/2017 15:41

Congrats on the scans sam and mrs and congrats on team blue missyeti very exciting.

Have they changed the midwife apps these days? I'm sure I got seen at 24/26 weeks last time but my next appointment now with me is to be seen at 28 weeks?

DaisyLand · 20/11/2017 15:53

Is it your second pregnancy Sunshine? If so you only get the 28 one I think and neither you'll be seen in the 30w one.

There is more info in the NHS www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/antenatal-appointment-schedule.aspx

@MissYeti WELCOme to Team Blue! I love your xmas bauble!

Parney · 20/11/2017 16:35

@missyeti I love the baubles!!

boatrace30 · 20/11/2017 19:06

Yep, the 24week one is optional for second pregnancies though I’m getting one as Midwife seems to be able to fit me in which I am pleased about.

MissYeti · 20/11/2017 19:40

In my notes it says 25 week appointments are for bmi of 35+! Given I was only 30 when booking and have only gained 1kg there's no way I'm over that! Glad it seems to be a normal appointment for 1st pregnancies!

Nuggets just thrown a tantrum, was great watching the left side of my belly wobble as he kicked! He seems to have settled down again now, bless him.
I think we are 90% settled on calling him Milo, what names have you guys got floating about? 😊

harrietm87 · 21/11/2017 13:31

Congrats missyeti!

I had my 20 week scan yesterday and all looking perfect. Managed not to crack so don’t know the sex!

My next midwife appt is 8 Jan when I’ll actually be 27 weeks - would’ve been 25/26 but cos of xmas they’ve pushed it back. My hospital also does a scan at 35 weeks so I’ve had that booked in - seems so far away!

I’ve just started showing as well - bump actually has popped! Got some maternity jeans in H&M at the weekend - my first mat clothes purchase!

MissYeti · 21/11/2017 13:49

Harriet good job holding firm! I couldn't have survived without knowing the gender, I'm such an impatient person!
I popped just before I hit 17 weeks, there was no bump then poof! There it was! Its so cool how it does that

You're so lucky getting a 35 week scan! Weve booked a private 4D one at 28/29 weeks, so exciting!

LivLemler · 21/11/2017 14:17

Congrats on all the scans! We had the 20 week scan yesterday, and thankfully all is as it should be. Mad how much the baby was moving around! They were really struggling to get still images of all they needed, but they could see all was fine. We didn't find out the sex.

They've moved my due date forward by 8 days to 4 April based on the measurements. I'm pretty sure of my dates though, so I'm not thrilled at that as it just increases my chances of being induced. Oh well.

Harriet - I'm so glad you mentioned Christmas! I need to make my 25 week appointment so must make it earlier rather than later and avoid a Christmas related delay.

harrietm87 · 21/11/2017 15:31

Wow liv that’s a lot forward! Is it because the baby was measuring big? I know my dates as I had a scan to check my ovaries before I conceived and the egg was ripening nicely and hadn’t been released - if I conceived when they said I did I’d have already been pregnant then! I think my due date is 5 days after they think. At the scan yesterday the baby was measuring 50th centile on everything, but DH and I are both fairly tall so it makes more sense to me that the baby is actually due later and is really meant to be on the 75th centile or something. Anyway, agree with the induction thing. I’m going to just ignore their due date when it comes to that - you can always refuse.

LivLemler · 21/11/2017 15:40

Yes harriet it was because of the measurements. I couldn't see the screen properly, but DH said everything was coming out at at least the 75th percentile, and many at 85 and 95 etc. I'm a shortarse, but was a big baby, but DH is tall so a big baby was expected tbh. I'm pretty certain of my dates. And scans at 8+4 and 10+1 were bang on. The midwife said this one is more accurate (I'm in NI and we don't get the full detail at 12 weeks that the rest of the UK does Hmm ), but 8 days would've been so significant at my first scans that I just can't believe it wouldn't have been picked up.

harrietm87 · 21/11/2017 16:12

Yeah liv I agree - the 12 week scan is meant to be the dating scan because babies apparently all grow at the same rate up to then, and then growth rates change. I’d be surprised if you were a full week out at 8 and 12 weeks and they didn’t notice!

What don’t they tell you at 12 weeks in NI? I’m from Belfast but living in London - quite relieved not to have their archaic laws re pregnancy rights.

LivLemler · 21/11/2017 17:07

harriet we don't get the NT scan at 12 weeks. Mine (at 10 weeks, but same difference) was literally just "One baby, with heartbeat, in the right place". They measured the crown-rump length but that was it, doubt it lasted 3 minutes. It's presumably because of our, as you say, rather archaic reproductive rights laws. In my trust I was able to request the quadruple test (blood test not as sensitive as combined test in rest of the UK, but good enough for me as a starting point) but a friend in Belfast had a terrible experience when she asked for the same thing.

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 21/11/2017 18:44

Eeeek!! Think I can feel some wooshing about in there - kind of feels tickley 😃

18+4 today

bondbaby · 21/11/2017 20:42

20 week scan for us today (and I am exactly 20 weeks). Resisted the temptation to find out the sex, although sonographer said baby was in such an awkward position that it wouldn't be easy to tell anyway! Trust me to have an awkward child! Can't believe that's the last time we'll see him/her until he/she is here in the flesh!

Aspenn17 · 21/11/2017 21:34

Congrats bondbaby!

I had my 20wk scan today too (I'm 19 weeks today) she's got such a cute little face. Had my whooping cough jab too. I forgot to ask for my MATB1 form, has anyone had this posted to them? 🤦🏼‍♀️ Feeling my little one move everyday now, she's a little wriggler. Finding it very hard to resist spending too much money with all these sales on at the moment....!
