So I bought a Doppler!
Got one on gumtree so I thought I would try it out and see how I get on - I hate this in between bit I can’t feel any movement yet and my next scan isn’t until 21 weeks

Anyway I found the heartbeat 😍

Then I couldn’t find it 5 mins later so I kind of get why the MW didn’t do it

Anyway it just has given me a bit of reassurance and let the DH hear it

ClaireBear1986 · 14/11/2017 14:55

Glad you managed to find it @Whymustyoubringinthebirds.
The in between scan weeks/months are the hardest!!

I also bought a doppler a while back (against everyone's advise) and then spent the whole weekend in tears and close to having a nervous breakdown as I couldn't find the heartbeat.

Luckily when I went for my scan a few days later, they found it straight away. They advised me how difficult they are for an untrained person to use properly, and also that I had a tilted womb so it was unlikely that even a trained midwife would have been able to find it at that stage with a doppler.

The Midwifes in my area do not even listen for a heartbeat at 16w anymore, due to not wanting to panic people if a heartbeat isn't found straight away.

Sonographer at my scan told me to go home, and throw it away. I told her not to worry, it was already smashed to pieces from where I threw it at the wall. Ha ha.

If you are lucky and can find the heartbeat, they must be such a lovely thing to have. But I would never attempt to use one again,
My friend had bought one, and sent it back to the shop without even opening it after seeing how much distress it caused me.

I finally feel that I may have turned the corner, and actually be starting to enjoy this pregnancy. Tiredness no longer seems as bad, skin is improving, sickness has gone and my hair is not so greasy. I never thought I was going to get this point!! I wouldn't go as far to say that I am glowing, but it is a definite improvement!!

DaisyLand · 14/11/2017 15:28

Hello all ! Back from holidays from Barcelona
Think baby likes the sun as it was 20 degrees and kept moving I’m sure he was saying mummy let’s move to the Caribbean Hahaha

If I had a Doppler I’d be like you Claire , husband and a friend who is in uni studying to be a mw have “forbidden” me to get one. I went to the doctor today and heard the hb as I was worried about something going on with baby, she even told me that at our stage sometimes they can’t find so easily the one from the baby. Luckily she did manage to find one so feeling better about my worries. Btw she was 29w pregnant. Can’t believe we’ll soon be at her point :).

I had to go to mothercare my clothes are starting to be little bit tight haha. Unluckily I didn’t like many things , I used to have loads of belly fat before so when I wear pregnancy clothes it felt it was just my belly and not pregnant one , can’t wait to have a proper bump !

Sunshinesaz86 · 14/11/2017 15:58

Hope you had a good holiday daisy glad you got to hear baby's hb.

clairebear I wish I had the pregnancy glow I've got sinusitis and a face full of coldsores definitely far from glowing 😞!! I hope yours lasts and glad your starting to enjoy it.

Sorry to hear about the dicky tum and hemroids mrs that sucks!

Glad you found the HB why

So had our 20 week scan today. Baby was performing for us all looked good thankfully! It flipped the V or peace sign at one point everyone had a giggle. Didn't find out the sex! Even tho it was tempting and DP really wanted too.

SparklyOwl · 14/11/2017 16:11

Sorry @RosesForBadgers I didn’t see it in time to be able to add you.

ClaireBear1986 · 14/11/2017 16:31

I wouldn't go as far as to call it a glow, but its a definite improvement.
Last week I was told by the Engineer at work that I looked like a crackhead. So I am glad to be out of that stage at least. Ha.

Congrats on the 20w scan @Sunshinesaz86, how funny that he/she flipped you the v sign. That's really made me laugh.

MrsDneedsaB · 14/11/2017 19:36

@Sunshinesaz86 good on you for staying strong and not finding out!! Glad baby was nice and entertaining for your scan. My little’un seems a bit quiet this week so think he’s going through a growth spurt, hoping he’s active again for the scan next week.

@ClaireBear1986 another one here jealous you’re feeling better and glowing ☺️ my skin has broken out this week and the tiredness is back (again I think this is bcoz of growth spurt) but like you my hair is less greasy and my nails are beautifully long and strong. Loving this part of it lol!

I’ve been lucky with my Doppler but at the same time am fully aware of the issues with them so would only ever recommend them to a secure mama who knows it’s only a bit of fun. Glad you managed to find the hb tho! It’s a lovely sound to hear ❤️

Thelostsock · 14/11/2017 20:31

Just a quick post to say I cracked and got non alcoholic sparkling rose and red wine from Morrison’s and I’m so pleased! Tastes good and after a long day at work I’m happily pretending Wine

Thelostsock · 14/11/2017 20:31

Oh and I’m also waiting for the “glow” too. My hair has stopped falling out though which is a bonus!

MissYeti · 15/11/2017 07:38

Heard nuggets heartbeat at my 16 (17) week appointment yesterday :D was really surprised that she did it without me having to ask as advice here suggested it was hit and miss at 16 weeks. She hit it right away which was reassuring!
I can understand why people buy dopplers, its such an addictive sound once youve heard it ❤ I'm happy leaving the midwife to find it cuz I'd just stress myself out if I couldnt find it.

Jealous of the pregnancy glow! My hairs still coming out in clumps and I'm all spotty :( glad some of you are having a better time! Its so strange to think we're all either half way or almost half way through our pregnancies now! Where has that time gone!? 😮😮

Hope you feel better soon mrsD!
And well done for holding firm on team yellow saz!!

Sam91TRS15 · 15/11/2017 12:12

I had my 20 week scan today (21 weeks today) after getting the time wrong yday.. Hectic with two kids not being quiet and falling out but they managed to get all their checks done. It was cool to feel the kicks while seeing the kicks at the same time! He wouldn't stop moving about! Just the same as the other two.. And he is defo a boy, they didn't say but I could see it all haha!
19 weeks to go!

boatrace30 · 15/11/2017 15:52

Just had my 20week scan too! We didn’t find out but convinced it’s a boy as we were told to look away numerous times so feel like it must have been obvious!

OP posts:
Thelostsock · 16/11/2017 08:48

Congratulations on all the scans!!! Can’t believe we’re getting to halfway now

MrsDneedsaB · 16/11/2017 09:11

Aww haha that’s funny @boatrace30 although not necessarily meaning it’s a boy, they have to look between the legs so it would be obvious either way - nothing there = girl, something there = boy.

I’m excited for my scan on Wednesday now! Can’t wait to see how much lil man has grown ☺️ although not looking forward to my jabs, such a baby lol

MrsDneedsaB · 16/11/2017 11:16

Oh also ladies - if you ever suffer from the dreaded piles this pregnancy. Germaloids is a freaking life saver!! 3 applications in and the pain is gone!!

Does anyone know of any ways to ease a mucusy cough? Halls Soothers and Honey & Lemon can only do so much.

Aspenn17 · 16/11/2017 11:47

Congrats everyone on your 20 week scans, so exciting!! Mine is next Tuesday when I will be 19 weeks, DH is away with work at 20 weeks so they moved it forward. Been having more regular very faint flutters/nudges this week 🙂 Also viewing some houses this weekend finally which I'm really excited about!

MrsD, I have such a horrible cough too, had it for 4 weeks now and it wakes me up at night it's so annoying! Got my scan next Tuesday so am going to ask them then. I've thought about cutting out dairy as I've heard that helps with the mucus but being a veggie I get a lot of my protein from dairy so I'm reluctant to do that!

Thelostsock · 17/11/2017 11:25

Just wondering if anyone is going to have a look at the Black Friday sales for baby things? Still nervous that it’s a bit too soon but don’t want to miss out on some bargains

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 17/11/2017 11:37

I did - I said any of the bigger ticket items that I want i would get if they where on offer. So I bought my pram from very as it’s the cheapest I’ve seen it

I’m a bit nervous too but my 20 week scan is only a few weeks away and I suppose you have to start buying at some point - likelihood is even after my scan there will still be some nervous moments like there is now

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 17/11/2017 11:47

I also bought a next to me style of crib a few weeks ago as that was on offer and last week I bought a few clothes as I had just felt excited that day that I am having a baby and that’s the first time I felt like that so I got some basics from Asda

MissYeti · 17/11/2017 12:10

We're waiting for January sales to buy the big stuff. My mums very old fashioned and thinks buying big bits too early is a bad omen so waiting til after 24 weeks when baby has a chance of survival if it's born. Bought some sale clothes from boots the other week cuz I just couldn't resist! They have some lovely gender neutral things in there.

Had my midwife appointment on Tuesday, got to hear the heartbeat which was lovely! Gender scan tomorrow - could Not be more excited! Mum, OH and I will be going baby shopping after woo!!

Thelostsock · 17/11/2017 12:15

Eeek enjoy @MissYeti! Will be so exciting for you to buy gender specific outfits! I thought the same about waiting until then, but will just not unpack and keep receipts. I’m a sucker for a bargain

I think I’ll probably do the same @Whymustyoubringinthebirds and keep an eye out for specifics I know I’m going to get. To be honest though I’ve only really just started looking so no idea if we want a cot, cot bed, Moses basket, next to me, suitcase 😆 there is too much choice and I have no idea what I’m doing!

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 17/11/2017 12:24

thelostsock it is hard - there is so much choice out there!

DaisyLand · 17/11/2017 12:54

I'm gonna wait for Boxing day sales , i'm not in a rush and DH is refurbishing our bedroom so the house in a mess right now.
I'm however, going to London next Friday as I have to renew my passport in my embassy, which is after the 20w scan so I might go and search for some baby clothes. Wont spend too much anyway

Ive signed up for Mothercare and John Lewis baby events so i'll bring the notepad and note things that i want and wait til boxing day

MrsDneedsaB · 17/11/2017 17:44

I just bought my pram in the Mothercare Black Friday sale! Literally 2 hours ago so such a coincidence that you guys are talking about it too haha.

Got £200 off the Mamas and Papas Armadillo Flip XT2, their sale doesn’t start til Monday but if you sign up to an account you get to shop the sale 3 days before anyone else! Most of the pram offers are a free car seat but some end up being a really good deal like mine. V happy with my purchase.

I’m lucky in a lot of other ways that I have 2 older sisters with kids and lots of hand me downs coming my way! So far they’ve saved me £££s

FairfaxAikman · 17/11/2017 18:29

Oh FFS. I’ve always known my grandmother hemorrhaged at the birth of DF’s youngest brother, but she chooses NOW to go into the finer details Confused
