Re pillows, last time round I got a dreamgenii one as it was recommended, and liked it, and then was given a v-shaped pillow which I found great for early days trying to breastfeed (and for snoozing on the sofa).

The v shaped pillow was fatter, the dreamgenii thinner. Depends on preference really.

MrsDneedsaB · 07/11/2017 14:12

Ive got a DreamGenii pillow, I love it. It’s £50 tho so quite pricey. Has a little pillow that supports your back too to try and help avoid you rolling on your back. DH is jealous of it cos I cuddle it more than him hahaha he calls it my pregnancy sausage 😂. Currently I’m in Dubai on a work trip and gutted I didn’t pack it - pillows placed around me is just not the same.

Such a shame so many of you haven’t been able to hear the heartbeat, do you know anyone with Dopplers that you can try out? I wouldn’t necessarily say they were worth splashing out on and borrowing would be easier - you could get addicted to listening and can make you worried if baby is hiding from you. I only got mine as I had a gift card for amazon so I think of it as “free”

How’s everyone feeling? Is anyone having foot pains? I’ve hurt a metatarsal but not sure how and wondering if it’s preg related.

MrsDneedsaB · 07/11/2017 14:15

Oh also ditto on what @Testar0ssa said about the dreamgenii being thin - if you like a good fat pillow this wouldn’t be a “sturdy” enough choice for you. I’m on the verge of finding it too thin when I have bad hip pains as I feel I need to prop my leg up further (I end up just doubling it over)

ClaireBear1986 · 07/11/2017 14:18

I also have a Dream Genii now and definitely slept better with it last night. Not sure how supportive it will be when I get bigger, but atm it is ideal.

I bought a Doppler (biggest mistake of my life) at 12 weeks, and ended up having a nervous breakdown as I couldn't hear the heartbeat all weekend. Was convinced something terrible had happened.
Turns out I have a tilted womb which the Sonographer said makes it near on impossible to hear the heartbeat at that stage. I threw it away in the end, as thought it would do more harm than good.

No foot pains here, just tiredness, bad skin, greasy hair and still feeling sick in the morning.
How are you doing @MrsDneedsaB, apart from your foot pains?

MrsDneedsaB · 07/11/2017 16:17

Oh no @ClaireBear1986 that sucks that you’re still feeling sick in the mornings!

I’m doing ok really, I’ve been told by multiple people that I’m having a dream pregnancy so far and I guess they are right in some ways but there are things that they couldn’t see like the horrific round ligament pain I was suffering from week 10 until this week.

However I’ve had it far easier than a lot of you girls so I shouldn’t really complain or jinx myself hahaha

ClaireBear1986 · 07/11/2017 16:27

Its not too bad as I'm not actually sick luckily, and only really seems to be on the tube. I just make sure I have a lot of water with me.

Compared to a lot of pregnancies I read about, I can't really complain either.

Wish my skin would go from dry and spotty to glowing now.
A number of my friends have warned me that the Pregnancy Glow is a complete myth though :(

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 07/11/2017 18:07

Pillow chat has been well timed - I had an awful sleep last night and my back has been suffering all day today!

When to mothercare and go a Dreamgenii today as this was all they had but I just couldn’t go another few nights while waiting for something to be delivered

Aspenn17 · 07/11/2017 18:27

I've been looking at the Dreamgenii too as I think I will need something to stop me rolling onto my back! Has anyone tried the Kit for Kids Cuddle me Pregnancy pillow?

LivLemler · 07/11/2017 19:52

A friend bought me a dreamgenii as a present. Haven't started using it yet, but must give it a go...

ScarletSienna · 07/11/2017 20:28

I have a full length pillow that I bought last pregnancy but not needing it yet. Still no bump really so maybe later it’ll be useful. I’ve borrowed a friend’s Doppler and I wish I hadn’t. At the weekend I couldn’t find the heartbeat and I was panicking. But midwives cannot always find it so me as an untrained person has less chance. I did by chance find it later in the day and I’ve now told myself that it is not worth the worry so it has gone in a draw. The anterior placenta means a lot of placenta whooshing noise too.

olicat · 07/11/2017 20:44

No heartbeat for me at the 16 week check :( midwife absolutely bollocked me for not going to a and e after the shaky episode though! It's so tricky as I felt fine immediately after and I'm always paranoid about being treated like a paranoid first time mum.

I am so keen for a pillow, feel bruised from being on my left so much as I usually switch between left and right!

FairfaxAikman · 07/11/2017 21:09

What do you mean by shaky olicat? I’ve been a bit light headed lately but have written that off as normal pregnancy

olicat · 08/11/2017 08:00

Fairfax I mentioned on the last page - weird experience where I woke in the night shaking uncontrollably. All fine now though so just hoping it doesn't happen again.

Btw I realise my post above looks weird, the midwife just didn't listen to the heartbeat at the scan rather than there not being one!

boatrace30 · 08/11/2017 08:00

@olicat - I wouldn’t worry too much about sleeping in your right side. I have to swap sides or I can’t sleep. I think left side is ideal but just not back or front. And left is to do with position of the baby which is nowhere near fixed yet as they have loads of room at this stage

olicat · 08/11/2017 08:01

Ugh appointment, not scan. Starting to believe baby brain is a thing, forgot my keys twice in the last couple of weeks!

MissYeti · 08/11/2017 08:29

Felt nugget move for the first time this morning 😀😀😀 had my hand resting on my lower belly while laying on my left side in bed and got a little bump right in my palm ❤❤ I'm so excited! Long may the wiggling continue!

I haven't needed a pregnancy pillow yet, still sleeping really soundly at the moment but we have long pillows in the loft, I'll use one of those to begin with if need be. Thanks for all the recommendations though, I'll know where to look if the time comes!

Testar0ssa · 08/11/2017 09:47

I’m starting to feel baby move when I’ve got a hand on my lower tummy, but not sure whether DH would be able to feel it yet, as I think I can only feel it as combination of inside sensations and therefore expecting to feel it on hand.

Woke this morning after horrendous, vivid, violent and nasty dreams and now I can’t shake the feeling of unease. Urgh. Pregnancy dreams suck (unless they’re about/with Jamie from Outlander Wink)

FairfaxAikman · 08/11/2017 09:55

Testar never understood the Jamie love.** More of an Ian fan (also loved Willie from season one but he’s not in it now - boo!)

Thelostsock · 08/11/2017 10:43

Just got back from 20 week scan! Amazing how detailed they are, could see the lens on the eye even. Baby didn’t want to wake up so it took a while, but that was nice ☺️. Can’t believe that’s it now until the birth!

Parney · 08/11/2017 16:37

I need to get some sort of pillow for support. Good to read all your opinions!

@thelostsock thrilled that your scan went so well! Good luck to the rest waiting on one.

I’m 20 weeks today and DH has been feeling the kicks this week. I’ve had to hold my hand over his and press down a little bit still magical all the same. He didn’t feel DS until bang on 23 weeks. @yeti delighted you got your first kick!

@Olicat have you had your 20 week scan? They let us listen to the heartbeat on the screen at ours. Hope you’ve had no more shaky episodes. I had one bout of vertigo around this time in my last pregnancy. It was terrifying!!

Sam91TRS15 · 08/11/2017 19:11

What are the kicks like for those around 20 weeks? I definitely get episodes which can be quite strong and it'll be like every few seconds for about a minute! Just seems like so much movement so early on? I woke up on my left side the other night with him doing this that I was worried he was squished cos when I moved to my right he seemed to settle back down? I love getting kicks but as soon as the episode is over I worry the movements weren't quite right like he is getting tangled up in the cord? I'm sure I'm just being crazy though, right??

Parney · 08/11/2017 19:18

@Sam I’m 20 weeks and movements are crazy, like you’ve described. Like a frog jumping about in there! This is new to me as I’d an anterior placenta last time. I just assumed this was normal? Other times there are proper kicks that can be felt on the outside, which I didn’t think baby would be strong enough for yet so I was taken by surprise when this first happened.

Sam91TRS15 · 08/11/2017 19:29

Oh that's good! Thanks parney! I can't remember DD moving so much ever! I don't think I have felt any outside yet but I did get one just a couple of days ago which felt like he had hit a nerve, it was a big jolt and could almost be described as sore! I can't believe we still have 20 more weeks of movements to feel!

harrietm87 · 09/11/2017 08:17

I felt my first proper movements on Tuesday! First baby and 18+2. Now feeling them all the time. They’re like little pokes and flutters, still gentle but unmistakeable. It’s the first time I’ve really believed there’s a baby in there!

Thelostsock · 09/11/2017 08:55

I love everyones descriptions of kicks! My DH finally felt one yesterday, think it was a head butt as was quite big. The minute he puts his hand on my belly baby seems to settle down though, annoyingly! I also find I’m certain he should feel it when he doesn’t, like others have said I think that’s just because it feels so strong on the inside.

So exciting though. Feels so nice when I’m in a meeting at work or bored on my commute and get a little reminder that I’m not alone. Have been told to enjoy it while baby is still too small to give a strong kick to the ribs or bladder!
