We're pretty early but thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone else is here already.

I'm 4+1, apparently due around 2 May. Would be great to have some company :). Already obsessing over every little thing. The next 8 weeks are going to drag!

I was advised last time would probably require elc this time due to failed induction ending in emc last time but we'll see. I would love a natural birth but I will totally listen to doctors and midwives and see what they say, baby's healthy arrival is what really matters.

Dorotha · 17/09/2017 18:32

@PhoenixDown they will probably refer you for CBT and you'll get prioritised because of pregnancy. I think it's a good idea to seek help.

Dorotha · 17/09/2017 18:33

I'm so so tired and sick. Good for nothing all weekend! I just want to sleep but my son wants to play so I spent much of the day just lying on the floor surrounded by wooden railway.. :)

MilfordFound · 17/09/2017 18:43

@motherofboy gosh so even after all that you're brave enough to try it again? Impressive! Have you heard of Mommastrong? Courtney Wyckoff is an exercise specialist working with postpartum women to treat post birth functionality. Her programme really helped strengthen my pelvic floor. But I think it's made me terrified to lose it again!

I lost a lot of blood, forceps and episiotomy. And while the actual birth experience I think I could do again, the long slow painful recovery concerns me. Birth injuries such as yours are pretty scary and worryingly common. I wish I'd been prepared for a slow recovery. Despite the blood transfusions I was still so slow to heal that when my stitches dissolved at 10 days post birth I literally fell apart Sad and it made breastfeeding so much harder as it took a couple of weeks for my milk to come in due to loss of blood.

I know recovery from c section can be bad. But I think I'd prefer to have stitches in my abdomen than my perineum. And honestly even if it's as bad as the weeks of pain from my last birth I won't be worried about long term damage to my pelvic floor.

I'll bring it up at my booking in appt and see what the midwife says.

MotherOfBoy · 17/09/2017 19:06

Yes maybe I am a bit mad milford! Recovery truly was awful tbh. I had to have my stitches removed at 10 days postpartum as they hadn't dissolved and were chasing me a hell of a lot of pain. That itself was like labour all over again as I had internal as well as external stitches! Ow! I dunno I'm just optimistic that as the whole experience (post-birth; labour itself although challenging as back to back and urge to push at 8cm was ok and nothing terrible as far as I remember) was so awful the first time round surely it can't be as bad again?! They did say to me that as I tore so extensively I don't have one single weak spot so although it's more than likely I will test again it won't be as bad. Hopefully. Dunno I just hate the thought of a c section. I have witnessed several in theatre myself and I don't fancy it one bit! I'd rather be the one to hold my baby first if I can manage it. I had a waterbirth first time and pulled him out the water myself which was the best bit. As I didn't have pain relief I also felt him come out of me (tmi sounds a bit gross) which was truly magical. Think I'd feel a bit cheated if I wasn't able to do the same again. But then again it's all up to nature on the day anyway!! I don't believe in birth plans, just birth preferences Grin

Dorotha · 17/09/2017 19:26

I had forceps, bad tearing and blood loss but I'd do it all over again instead of a section. I read so much about gut flora and 'good' bacteria that the idea of a section terrified me. My husbands family are full of celiacs and allergies. I was very lucky that my son's heart rate remained strong despite him getting stuck and I was able to refuse a section.

tiramisualwaystiramisu · 17/09/2017 19:26

Hello everyone - have missed loads of posts, so still catching up! Went to a wedding this weekend via my parents to babysit DS for our first night away from him together! Very strange and missed him loads but had a nice time.

See there's been some chat about birth preferences second time around. As I had emcs at 35 weeks, I would really like to have a natural birth, although I am completely terrified and not sure what to expect

Dorotha · 17/09/2017 19:33

Oh yes - back to back and pushing from 9cm. For 8 hours!
But the second time they just fly out, right?

PhoenixDown · 17/09/2017 19:35

Thanks @Dorotha I hope so. I definitely need some help before I feel even worse. I am worried I'll end up with AND. :(

I am v v lucky to have has a quick normal birth last time so hoping for it to be straightforward again this time, but who knows! What will be will be I guess.

timeisnotaline · 17/09/2017 19:40

I would mention your preferences to the midwife from the start, if only because I think it's likely you will get pushback that c-sections are only for those who need them as a medical neccessity and you may as well get used to standing up for yourself on this topic from the start :). (I had a preference for the labour ward as opposed to the birthing centre - midwife told me it would be selfish of me to take a bed from someone with more complex needs)

Kirstipops · 17/09/2017 20:31

Last time I was admitted to hosp to be induced but went into labour before they even put the pessary in, lolz. 14 hrs of contractions, (no birthing pool available in busy October, sob) 30 mins of pushing with gas & air, catheter, episiotomy, forceps and voila, my lovely little nutcase came into the world. Ideally next time I'd labour mostly at home with the old reliable TENS machine again (a lifesaver last time, along with some natal hypnotherapy breathing) then head into hosp to pop out the baby in a pool. Man I really want a pool Grin Has anyone had a homebirth? That'd be ideal but I couldn't risk it after needing assistance last time.

MotherOfBoy · 17/09/2017 21:08

Eesh dorotha I thought the pushing not pushing was hard enough for 3 hours! Doesn't bare to imagine 8!!

Oooo homebirth. I've toyed with the idea as the hospital is miles from where we are and would take over an hour to get there (having said after dc1 I would never birth anywhere other than a hospital!). Only option here realistically is MLU or homebirth. I want MLU really but no idea what to do with DS. And not sure if I will be low risk enough after what happened last time. We'll see.

NancyNoo32 · 17/09/2017 21:10

I also had forceps, episiotomy, blood transfusions etc. Had a really long labour and was pushing for hours before they prepped me for a c-section, but they managed to get her out with forceps. The spinal they gave me was hands down one of the best moments of my life, going from all that pain to nothing in a second! Not sure what I want this time, the thought of going through all that again terrifies me and love the idea of an elective c-section, but not sure if 'having big headed babies' is a reason to qualify Grin (I'm sure that's the reason I couldn't get her out!)

5 weeks today.

scoutcat · 17/09/2017 21:23

Hi everyone! 4 weeks +1 today! First pregnancy too. Grin impatiently waiting to get to 5 weeks, after seeing those mc stats!

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 21:34

Welcome scout I found out at 4 weeks and I'm finally 5 weeks tomorrow, we're a great bunch on the May thread :-)

scoutcat · 17/09/2017 21:43

Thank you @LadyPug! I've heard May is a lovely time to have a baby! Is this your first or do you already have children?

Kirstipops · 17/09/2017 21:50

Hi scout :) I had my lg in October so being heavily preggo in springtime will be interesting :) My husband and I were talking about names today, jeez we really struggled to come up with many last time and only had one agreed name by the time I went into labour, luckily it was a girls name! It'll be tricky to come up with another name that's meaningful to us both!

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 21:52

Hey Scout it's my second!

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 21:54

Hi kirsty we're the same, winter baby so spring is new to us too!

timeisnotaline · 17/09/2017 22:50

I really want to jump into planning but I suppose I should test at 5 weeks and if it's still positive call the gps. But last time pregnancy sickness hit at 6 weeks so that doesn't leave much time to get organised :(

MammaBear18 · 17/09/2017 22:53

Welcome scoutcat!

We're struggling with names to be honest as we're both teachers! I'd find it very weird to teach a child with the same name I have chosen so that limits the pool... Plus all the mean ones get crossed off straight away Wink

scoutcat · 17/09/2017 22:55

@MammaBear18 I know what you mean, I'm a teacher too! I already have a list of names I'd not want to call my children!

muffin93 · 17/09/2017 23:42

Thank you so much everyone. I think I'll wait until I've finished my probabtion, should be the end of November and wait a week or two before telling them.

They seem to be a really good company but you just don't know what people will do when told of such things.

I would check my contract but they are currently being signed by the boss so until I get it back I just don't know.

I'm getting really bad morning sickness but luckily I have previous with feeling sick so it's not arousing suspicion... yet

LadyPug · 18/09/2017 07:32

5 weeks today!
