We're pretty early but thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone else is here already.

I'm 4+1, apparently due around 2 May. Would be great to have some company :). Already obsessing over every little thing. The next 8 weeks are going to drag!

Lindyj0 I think cramping is normal as your urterus is growing, I've had a few period cramps every so often

HerSymphonyAndSong · 17/09/2017 08:41

I've had quite a bit of period-like cramps and twinges. When I had what I thought were really bad cramps though it turned out to be wind! Blush

timeisnotaline · 17/09/2017 09:29

Muffin no do not tell work! They cannot legally end your employment due to pregnancy but while on probation it's very easy for them to claim some other reason and you will not be able to do anything about it. Tell them well before 25 weeks though as they may have forms you need to submit by then, I seem to recall something like that.

Lindyj0 · 17/09/2017 09:37

Ha ha, I wondered if it could be wind @HerSymphony but there was no evidence of it. The cramps are completely gone now. They were so painful, I thought Smudge was a goner.

smu06set · 17/09/2017 10:03

I also have cramps this morning making me panic. No blood or anything yet but ow they hurt!

Dorotha · 17/09/2017 10:18

Definitely don't tell your work during probation. Some employers are really ruthless with pregnant ladies. If you want to know more about your rights, check maternity action website.

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 10:31

Anyone else really dizzy and lightheaded?

Kirstipops · 17/09/2017 10:37

Not yet Ladypug but I did have that first time around. Had the mildest of nosebleeds this morning, which I remembers being an odd preg symptom from last time too! I had my first legit smell aversion today - took my daughter to a public toilet yesterday while we were out, I was crouched down and holding her steady on the toilet and nearly heaved down the front of her at the whiff of her peeGrin The joys and glamour!

Kirstipops · 17/09/2017 10:39

Smell aversion yesterday even.

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 10:53

Gags kirstipops the smells are the worst aren't they?! I had awful nose bleeds last time! I had one whilst driving with no tissues etc, I was on a motorway trying to steer with blood all over my hands and face, was a nightmare!!! Had to pull into a lay by and use my sock!!!!!

Freshlysteamedfanjo · 17/09/2017 11:34

Muffin don't tell work! With my first I started working as a self-employed consultant for a company when I was 10 wks pg on a 6 month contract. I didn't tell them, they then offered me a permanent job- I still didn't tell them til I was 24 wks. You legally have to tell them by 25 wks. Also you should be entitled to SMP/enhanced maternity by the time you go on Mat leave (I think there is something about being there 18 and/or 24 wks by the time you go on leave).
How long is your probation period?

Freshlysteamedfanjo · 17/09/2017 11:36

Btw I should add I told them after they interviewed me but before formally accepting the perm role.

Freshlysteamedfanjo · 17/09/2017 11:36

But regardless, you will be there nearly 8 months by the time you go on ML

PhoenixDown · 17/09/2017 11:48

Fatigue has hit me like a train today. Not looking forward to starting nights tomorrow 😭

MegsMog · 17/09/2017 12:03

ladypug I'm feeling pretty dizzy today, actually. We're flying home from hols today, flight already delayed by 20 mins...

I've been going to bed around 8pm whilst away. So tired!

PocketNiffler · 17/09/2017 12:32

Muffin - last time around I didn't tell work until after the 20 week scan (I did actually tell my boss at 16 weeks, but nobody else guessed). I was massive later on but at 20 weeks I could still hide it with long cardigans and scarves.

Doublechocolatetiffin · 17/09/2017 12:57

Thank you everyone, I will keep on taking it one day at a time. I really would love daily scans though if funds allowed!

@muffin it sounds like a good idea to wait to tell them for a bit. Give you time to get through probation - it's horrible that you have to consider these things, but you never know how people will react.

I slept badly last night so am shattered today, it almost makes me feel better though because that's how I'm supposed to feel!! I also get moments of dizziness and I remember horrible nose bleeds from my first pregnancy - blood everywhere and no means of stopping it!! I'd never had a nose bleed before that.

MotherOfBoy · 17/09/2017 13:05

Hi all, sorry I haven't posted in ages! Haven't caught up yet... we moved house on Tuesday so everything has been a bit manic in the Mother household. Finally starting to get a bit settled but boxes everywhere.

Sickness has approached, I avoided it last time but have on off waves of nausea now, such that at times run to the loo thinking I'm going to vom. No actual sick yet but I think it's only a matter of time 😔 Majorly craving crisps, especially doritos. Haven't been eating much (or at least not much good food!) lately.

Finally registered with a GP. Seems in our new area you see GP first so I have an appt at 6 weeks on Wednesday. Then midwife should be at 10 weeks I think. Different to last time when it was straight to midwife at 8 weeks!

Hope everyone is well, will try to be more active on the thread now that the house move is done with!

mrscordy · 17/09/2017 13:55

Hi everyone! I'm so glad to find this forum. I have a funny pregnancy story, I've actually had hypothalamic amenorrhoea and found out 3 weeks ago I was pregnant without having had a return of my periods! By my calculations I think I'm due in May but unfortunately could not convince my GP to let me have an early scan to get the dates more accurate.

Anyway sickness and tiredness is a bummer, absolutely feel hungover the whole time! Doesn't help that I have an exam in 9 days time to prepare for. Does anyone have any good coping tips? This is my first time and I'm completely clueless and still not announcing to my more experienced friends and family until I have had a scan.

CaptainsCat · 17/09/2017 14:37

As if morning sickness wasn't bad enough, whilst throwing up after lunch at the in laws, some toilet water splashed up into my mouth!! Argh Confused

MooChops89 · 17/09/2017 14:54

@PhoenixDown I feel your pain, I'm on clinic this week (nice break!) But got 4 nights the week after that 😣 when are you planning on telling work? I thought the earlier the better in case anything were to happen, was thinking of telling just the manager this week but is that TOO early do you think? I'm 6+3 today.

MilfordFound · 17/09/2017 15:27

Is it too early to be thinking about the birth?! I think I want a c section this time, I've just been doing some reading and it seems my local trust don't offer elective c sections without clinical need, so don't follow the NICE guidelines.
I might be entitled to one due to clinical need. After my last birth the midwife suggested that I'd be offered a c section next time. I'm still a bit conflicted over it, obviously if I was going to have a straight forward delivery with no forceps and no PPH then I'd rather that, but I don't think I want to take the risk.
Is a c section something I should bring up from the start? Or does it get discussed later on?

Catndogmummy · 17/09/2017 15:54

@Milfordfound this is my first but I have a strong preference for an elective c-section. I spoke to my midwife about this at the initial appointment but she suggested that without a medical need they would not agree to it as 2 consultants would need to agree it could happen. She said that she'd refer me to a specialist midwife to discuss further but I suspect she thinks that the midwife will be able to convince me otherwise. I suspect because an elective c- section will cost more money to the nhs that they'll want to avoid at all costs!!

smu06set · 17/09/2017 16:09

I had my DS caesarean under General, keen to avoid that this time round! I think I would prefer not to have a c section as you do recover much quicker and not being able to drive is a big issue when you live rurally! No idea whether having had one c section means I'll be offered another...

MotherOfBoy · 17/09/2017 16:31

My friend has recently requested a caesarean for second baby due to PPh last time, general anaesthetic, HDU for a week and blood transfusions. Midwife wouldn't consider until I think about 28 weeks then she had to see a consultant midwife and a consultant obstetrician to agree to it.

I was told last time I'd be offered caesarean this time round (PPH, blood transfusion, v bad tear requiring remedial op, recotocele and 6 months pelvic floor physio) but it's actually the last thing I want despite all that. I'm hoping perineal massage, better position for crowning and more pelvic floor physio will help! 😬
