That's great news, congratulations @gallopingfeet!

FuzzyOwl · 29/07/2017 10:14

I would just say it isn't convenient to be at home then @OnceUponaMama and they will have to arrange somewhere for you to go for it. I'm sure lots of people refuse to have them at home - people might be there working, children running round (especially in the holidays or if you are a childminder), builders, decorating, all kinds of things.

Wonderful news *Gallopingfeet and I hope you are feeling much more reassured now.

OnceUponaMama · 29/07/2017 10:15

Thanks flatwhite31- I hope the midwife will understand if it comes to it. It's my first pregnancy and I'm getting the guilt of not wanting to 'ruin' things I guess.

Those that have had babies, did you see the same midwife throughout pregnancy and delivery or different ones as you went along?

I think I'm going to get the latest booking in appt possible and really push for the jobs to get finished in the next few weeks.
X

FuzzyOwl · 29/07/2017 10:16

@OnceUponaMama usually the same midwife or same team of midwives whilst pregnant and completely different ones during delivery.

OnceUponaMama · 29/07/2017 10:17

Congratulations galloping! It's so lovely and surreal to see the heartbeat flickering on screen x

OnceUponaMama · 29/07/2017 10:18

OK thankyou fuzzy owl. X

OnceUponaMama · 29/07/2017 10:30

@Excited1203 - it's so awful isn't it needing to do jobs and being pregnant! We have half jobs here too I'm so sick of seeing them all.. I almost painted yesterday as I'm so fed up of things taking ages. Dp said he'd rather him do it- but he is a bit slower. I worry about paint fumes too! I think water based paints are better and I think you can get non toxic paint too which is interesting! I hope you get all your jobs completed soon and no longer have to deal with it!

Flatwhite31 · 29/07/2017 10:34

Fantastic news @Gallopingfeet Smile

I'm a first timer too. Already worrying that I won't cope with the sleep deprivation as I've been struggling with the interminable pregnancy fatigue!

BlueeSpottyTiger · 29/07/2017 11:12

Galloping Aww fantastic news xx

OnceUponaMama · 29/07/2017 11:15

Flatwhite31 I didn't know you were a first timer. You seem so knowledgeable, I assumed you had already done all this before. Congratulations on your first pregnancy too, you'll be a great mum!

Flatwhite31 · 29/07/2017 11:30

Oh bless you @OnceUponaMama! I'm a primary school teacher with lots of teaching friends who are mummies, so that helps! I can tell you, though, that I haven't a clue about looking after a newborn!

BlueeSpottyTiger · 29/07/2017 11:31

I'm really worrying they won't fit me in for my 12week scan before i go on holiday as i calculated my dates wrong (only 2 days out).. I'll be 11+6 when i fly and 13+6 when i come back. I asked the mw when i called for my booking appointment and she said the downs/combined test's can only be done up until 13+6 on the dating scan.I
don't want the cvs(?) Or whatever it's called.

Stuckinstressville · 29/07/2017 11:36

Galloping what super news!

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 29/07/2017 11:37

Already worrying that I won't cope with the sleep deprivation as I've been struggling with the interminable pregnancy fatigue!

You'll be fine! DC1 was a truly awful sleeper (woke every single hour of every night til well past his second birthday), and even then the exhaustion wasn't quite comparable to the bone-tiredness of early pregnancy IMO.

Re: continuity of midwife care - with DC1 I had a team of five midwives and was guaranteed (as close to guaranteed as possible) that at least one and probably two would attend delivery. I met three during my antenatal care (though almost all of my care was with my named midwife), so of course it was the other two who attended the birth. Grin They were all lovely and I didn't find it problematic that I'd never met my actual labour midwives until they arrived (1 hour, and 15 mins, before DS, respectively!). They did have a regular coffee meeting so you could meet them all though.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 29/07/2017 11:39

Posted too quickly. That was with the home birth team, but I think the same principle applied to hospital births too.

Stuckinstressville · 29/07/2017 11:42

I saw different midwives and gps each appt and despite the fastest delivery of 3ish hours end to end I saw 4 midwives.

Sadly that's how Wandsworth is! Tempted to book In with the home delivery team as the same ones come to your house for appts and I am likely to have an even fast labour that even though I live 200 m from
St. George's we might not make it. I can always change my mind at any point but still see the home team.

Countdowntofour · 29/07/2017 11:48

@flatwhite I hadn't even held a baby until I had dd1 😁 once the midwives showed me how to bath and change a nappy I learnt really quickly about everything else.
After 3 daughters I have pretty much no idea about boys though 😂

DancingUnicorn · 29/07/2017 11:54

Nell that sounds like what I have. Team of 6 midwives. Will mostly be seen by one throughout pregnancy but towards the end will meet them all and one of them will be at delivery, whether it's at home or on the midwife led suite at the hospital, which will be my preference (because I'd like to donate the cord blood if possible)

SheSaidHeSaid · 29/07/2017 12:06

No chance to get out of gin tasting unfortunately Excited I'm going for a meal with the girls beforehand so will enjoy that and will just stay away from the gin for the rest. Going with 2 girls, one is very understanding (one who has had a baby) and the other is being difficult about it (not maternal at all). Had the second girl even telling me to just drink the gin coz it won't do any harm... erm no. I don't want to, thanks!

Sleep deprivation - ds didn't sleep more than 45 mins until we sought help at 6 months as my appendix burst- funnily enough it didn't impact as much as I thought - your hormones help with getting up quickly but falling asleep fast.

Excited1203 · 29/07/2017 12:23

Thanks @OnceUponAMama, same for you. I suspect ours will take some months sadly. My partner won't let me do anything, e.g. I said I could finish cleaning the kitchen ceiling, "No, if I fall off a ladder that's ok, but I can't have you risk falling off a ladder." Then I want to drill something with MY hammer drill, "no, what if there's dust flakes, you go upstairs while I do it". It's nice, but everything's slow. It would be perfect if he was faster at doing all this stuff.

Second friend sounds a bit useless @SheSaid. Hope the dinner is nice at least!

Stuckinstressville · 29/07/2017 12:49

We are planning loft and side extension. Which could happen whilst I am pregnant when I am due or just after. We employ a handyman or nothing gets done!

Excited1203 · 29/07/2017 13:08

Oh wow, that's massive. We've put having a back extension on hold as unaffordable. Just need every room's cracks filled and painted. We've had so many tradesmen come and then fail to send a quote or be crazily priced. We had a list of 138 tasks and have done about 20. ConfusedHmmBlush

Excited1203 · 29/07/2017 13:09

(Unaffordable because I'm pregnant I mean, just because we need our money for me to be off with the baby, I'm self employed so no maternity pay.)

Stuckinstressville · 29/07/2017 13:32

Excited we realised we have no room left for the new bean. Second mortgage is going to have to be used EnvyConfused
