Welcome to a new space!
I felt the baby move last night....had been getting sharp shooting pains just below my ribs on one side - I couldn't stand so laid down for an hour or so, and then I was entertained. V special isn't it to feel it again?!

Hi all, I couldn't find this thread for ages.
Congratulations Janos, how exciting a baby boy

I'm feeling enormous now and ready for the baby to come out, not long now hopefully it will be on time 2nd Dec! The baby has dropped but it's head isn't engaged yet. Apparently this isn't uncommon for the first baby.

I'm getting my haircut next week, I can't believe how much it grows in pregnancy.

All the best for your CS honeybunny. It must be great to know exactly when the baby is to be born.

Jimjams how can you know how to control your labour when it's your first, especially if it's going on a long time?

Jimjams · 20/11/2004 19:12

know what you mean honneybunny- but I had very bad adhesions last time (elective) so recovery was bloody awful anyway (first emergency section following 18 hour labour was actually fine!). I only agreed on the basis that I could bail out into section at any time- so won't be getting too exhausted.

MiniB - my first was an induction which is always a slippery slope to them fiddling. In my case a very dodgy junior doctor got hold of me With a VBAC they are more limited in what they can do (can't use syntocinon for example). Also 3 years of living with autism (and dealing with so caled professionals) has made me stroppy in a way I wasn't 5 years ago when I had ds1!

Basically if it all goes smoothly then fine, but as soon as it doesn't I'll be off to theatre.

fortnight · 22/11/2004 12:08

hana-I agree with honeybunny,I can't imagine how a homebirth could be safer than a hospital one. Maybe more comfortable,or relaxing, but safer?I had my 2 in hospital, and personally the surroundings didn't matter to me at all-I just wanted to have the baby,I was so focused I could have been anywhere for all the notice I took of the place.I'll probably be even less bothered this time.
I've had my bag packed for ages, and the spare room is filling up with equipment.I still have to locate a couple of boxes, including blankets and sheets,I'm waiting for dh to get a ladder to go up into the attic....I'm threatening to go up myself but I don't think it would be very wise.

scubamum2b · 22/11/2004 12:14

hana - hope you enjoyed the crappy movies! Started have some rasberry leaf tea, but not had any for a few days, and DH heps out with the oil to help me stretch for when baby does eventually find the escape route.

Last blood tests show i don't need to take iron tablets (must be close to the limit)

going to have a look at the hospital tonight - feel like there is still so much unknown and could possible be so little time to find out

btw, is it just me or do others sufer from the inability to get food from plate to mouth without dropping some on the ever increasing bump? (sitting here with a nice coffee stain on my top today!)

redshoes · 22/11/2004 16:52

I am covered in food I have slopped today!

Nimme · 22/11/2004 20:06

scubamum - definitely. Nice Ribena stain on todays white t-shirt. I no longer bother to change as I'll probably spill something else. Which hospital are you going to to scuba?

jimjams - I hope I'll have some of your assertiveness when in hospital. I felt really out of control last time although all went very well. I was induced with drip, had epidural and then baby a few hours later. All very civilised. That was abroad - very worried about English hospitals - heard so many bad things about inductions and interventions.

Trying out assertivenes on builder to get them out by weekend - not sure it's working. He's saying - oh well we might have to come and do xyz later - and I'm like: No I want it done now - no more b..... dust - anywhere. I want to clean house from top to bottom NOW. Maybe I'll resort to tears.....

Jimjams · 22/11/2004 21:02

Nimme I'm not being very assertive with our decorator! Baby's room is a mass of dust and has no glass in a window and no carpet

TBH I was just unlucky with ds1 (induction). All would have gone well if a junior doctor hadn't got hold of me! Stick with the midwives and senior registrars and you'll be fine!!

PotPourri · 23/11/2004 12:25

Ha ha, Scuba. I am glad I am not the only one who drops food all over the place. I reckon that I am preparing myself mentally for the mess of a baby - sick, snot etc.

I'm a bit worried about not liking the midwife when I arrive at hospital. I have met 6 differnt ones in my care so far and I have only liked one, and a couple were ok-ish. I think I had an image that they were all-caring and mother-like, like my friend who is a midwife. But it is clear that some are just doing their job. Oh well, my plan is to try and stay at home as long as possilbe, so that I won't care who is there or where I am by the time it comes to the hospital. Hopefully I can have a water birth, but I plan to sit in the bath at home for HOURS if necessary!

Nimme, I have briefed and rebriefed DH on my birth plan so that I can leave all the assertiveness to him. He is quite happy to have such an important job (but a bit sick of hearing my go on about my wishes for the 100th time!). I flit between wanting the baby out NOW and wanting it to be 2 weeks late so that I can enjoy this lovely time to myself. I have highlighted my hair and tinted my eyelashes and brows today - the idea is that I will look like a gorgeous new mum in the photos?!? . I have been making loads of stuff (Christmas arts & crafts, lovely handmade toiletries). I swear I have a more action packed day now than I ever had at work - and I have switched off totally now from work after only a week. I could get used to this!

BambiBE · 24/11/2004 14:47

Aha found the lost thread! Congratulations to Janos - hope things are going well. I know what you mean about being busy even though off work -trying to have a relaxing day today but keep pottering around doing things. We have finished the nursery now and all the last bits ie cot are being delivered on 1st Dec and the lounge carpet was put in yesterday, so finally feeling as if it's all coming together. Also having the same problem of food spillage, but then think i've always been a bit like that, what is getting worse however is the indigestion - feel as if I may overdose on gaviscon - and scattiness, I made a complete fool of myself in a gift shop yesterday, when I couldn't find a carrier bag I'd got from another shop, the staff helped me look all over their shop, when I remembered I'd put in the boot of my car before going into the shop

Nimme · 24/11/2004 15:57

Bambi - you didn't own up did you?

Ronniebaby · 25/11/2004 22:01

Hiya ladies we all still here then

I hate eating as I have to either sit back with a bib or towel over me, or hold the plate or bowl under my chin, so's not to spill it.

Hope everyone is still ok.

Thought I would just remind us all of our dates etc, as I was curious, (obviously took Janos out )

Oh I need a nosebag or something to eat, it's completely pathetic. Have also just fallen over outside in the street like an idiot. No signs yet of imminent arrival and am totally fed up.
It's a full moon today and supposedly more women give birth/go into labour around the full moon - might be grasping at straws now though!
Good luck everyone. It surely can't be long now...

PotPourri · 26/11/2004 16:34

Ooooh, and do the babies have alot of hair

I have been pottering around the house all week and thoroughly enjoying this time to myself. I swear, I don't think I have ever had such a relaxing time before, even on holiday - probably the last time was during school holidays. I have filled the freezer with lasagne etc for after the birth, have made a fabric advent calendar and 2 Christmas stockings for me & DH (can't begin to tell you what satisfaction I have seeing how cute they are), and I spent all day yesterday making Christmas cards and writing them all out (without new baby - I will post them this weekend second class so not RIDICULOUSLY early). Ooooh, what else, the baby stuff has all been organised for about a week now and I have visited new babies from my ante-natal class friends.

Somehow, I'm not feeling impatient any more, but am on the raspberry leaf tea, pineapple, curry etc to see if I can get things moving. Oooooh, it's all so soon girls. We will have our babies in a matter of weeks!

smellymelly · 26/11/2004 18:08

Just popping in to say hi to everyone, esp. Hana & Jimjams.

And to thank beachedwhale for her lovely message on my other thread!

Although I'm officially due in Jan, I now have an induction date for 14th Dec, thankfully. So I will be bump free before some of you.

Btw - How did so many of you get due dates for 25th Dec?

Happy Xmas....

Jimjams · 26/11/2004 18:15

oh smellymelly you had me all excited- I thought you might have had them!

hana · 26/11/2004 18:45

pp - am jealous of all that you've been doing!! Sounds lovely.........I made a sock for the baby the other day - dd has been a bit concerned that the baby won't get any presents and that Santa won't bring anything either, she also wanted me to put a name on it like hers, but we certainly can't do that yet!!

I am rethinking of when I take mat leave - was going to leave it until the 17th (39 weeks) but prob earlier. Any other second timers taking their leave later this time around?
and I too have a trail of food leading to my mouth from my belly! Complete slob
NImme - you've reminded me that I must must must start 'stretching my bits' as well, urgh. I have some rasp leaf tea as well and have been having a couple of cups a day.
Dec 1 isn't far away pp and georginars........!!

Nimme · 26/11/2004 20:05

Hi all

Well I did resort to tears and it worked. It wasn't because I wanted to but just got so frustrated with builders. As soon as I think I can see the end it moves by another week. If baby stays put until next weekend we might just be builder and dust free.
DH saying I'm getting too stressed and to get my priorities right - so chocolate and TV for me tonight (have already done two loads of washing, some cleaning around the tiling I did yesterday and hung some hooks and and)

I have so much pressure on pelvis, bladder, piles and popping veins that I think giving birth might actually be some relief for me (I'll report back on that post event!)

Hana - also getting some pressies for baby as DD might think it was very sad if Father Christmas forgot.

PP - sounds as if you're having a lovely time - must take leaf out of your book and enjoy these last few days before baby arrives.

It's getting close now - who will be first?

lilymum · 29/11/2004 10:50

Well? Anyone birthed yet??!

georginars, sympathies for falling over in the street. I did the other week, fortunately no-one else around at the time so I was able to hide my humiliation and limped back inside. dh unconcerned as to how I was, but kept asking if the baby was OK. Huh.

Hope everyone is alright...

Bronze · 29/11/2004 18:20

Hello people, can I join you. Theyve all deserted me on Nov. Very fed up and going nowhere
B

honeybunny · 29/11/2004 18:31

Hello Bronze. When is/was your due date? Sorry you're feeling fed up. I'm with you on that one.... feeling fit to bursting, lots of Braxton Hicks and ominous signs but no action. Probably just as well as ECS is booked for Friday so only another 3days of sleepless, twitchy nights to go. Well, until the sleepless nights start with baby!! But somehow thats never as bad as the pg insomnia and aches and pains. Just cant wait to have some snuggles with my new baby.
Hope something happens for you in the next few days.

hana · 29/11/2004 18:37

Oh Bronze, sorry to hear you're still waiting!! Lots of luck.
go eat a pineapple and indulge in some between the sheets activity

OP posts:
honeybunny · 29/11/2004 18:48

Also, a friend swears by nipple tweaking!! Worked 2/2 times with ds1 and ds2

Bronze · 29/11/2004 19:24

So much for bed action I cant even lie down, so have been sleeping? (spending the nights) sat in an armchair. I think Ive tried everything now except castor oil and knowing my luck that would just make me feel crap and do nothing. I was due the 25th. Whos due first out of you lot? Anyone had theirs yet?
I havnt got a hospital date yet so hopefully itll happen before I'm induced. Good luck people
B

hana · 30/11/2004 09:55

Bronze, potpourri and georginars are both due tomorrow....
