mrspage thanks for sharing that gem GrinGrinGrin

I'm loving all the inside info from the Mums. Helps us (I often read bits out to DH) feel a bit more like we know what's coming.... I can dream! Smile

newbieho · 17/05/2017 18:03

@PeachIcedT hope the sweep will work - fingers crossed!

@teainbed wow on fitting into pre- pregnancy clothes, I'm jealous! I really need to get back on track once I get better and the stitches heal.

EsmesBees · 17/05/2017 18:08

Weirdly, I've just put a load of nappies and a mat in the play room so we can do downstairs changes. It's the convincing the toddler to walk upstairs that's the issue here.

Off out tonight for a curry. Hasn't stopped raining here all day and DD is climbing the walls. Looking forward to bedtime...

MrsJW15 · 17/05/2017 18:20

Ugh the rain is pretty miserable isn't it Esmes. We are trying to do lots of walking to get baby moving, but it's not really the weather for it.

Feeling a bit rubbish this afternoon. Head a bit fuzzy and a bit nauseous. Getting some painful tightenings again, but nothing regular at this point. So bored of over-interpreting every sign!

Adventuregame · 17/05/2017 18:33

Found you all - sorry I've not been very active on here. I was readmitted to hospital as my episiotomy stitches opened up ! Very depressing!
Quick question, well 2 actually :

  1. What's the best Moses basket mattress any of you have found ?
  2. In the day is baby ok to sleep in pram for a few hours at a time instead of carrying Moses downstairs? I know they can't sleep in pram overnight but I guess if you're out all day at a wedding for example they'd be asleep in pram right ?
Gosh it's so overwhelming being responsible for something so tiny !!
peasandquiet · 17/05/2017 19:41

Evening all, found you! Been quite on here as found it a bit easier on the FB group but don't want to miss any babies.

Hope all of those with planned inductions/sections this week are ok.

Have had a crap day, crashed my car (slow speeds just the car damaged not me) and overall have felt very low. Don't think it helps that I've now got further with this pregnancy than I did 1st time around. Was really hoping for a second early baby but looks like that's not what this baby has planned. 39w today so it's got to happen at some point in the few weeks.

I'm really really hoping thread #15 is my lucky thread...

uptown8617 · 17/05/2017 19:42

Due to date today and last day at work! 😬

@FoxMulder was your appointment at Helme chase? I had my 40 week appt today and they offered a sweep. It wasn't as bad as some of the stories I've heard but I'm not expecting much to happen from it.

Currently bouncing on the ball and planning a good walk tomorrow to see I can get things moving. My brothers are flying over from Canada and Australia in the next couple of days so they've put the pressure on to get this baby out!

FoxMulder · 17/05/2017 20:14

Hi uptown! Not heard from you in a while. My appt was at my GP surgery.

I've also got family coming up soon who are expecting to see a baby!

FoxMulder · 17/05/2017 20:15

Nice day here weather wize, which I'm pretty smug about because it's never good here and bad everywhere else!

teainbed · 17/05/2017 20:28

Oh @Adventuregame you poor thing, feel better soon hopefully.

Rabbitykins55 · 17/05/2017 21:57

I haven't forgotten about you all ladies!

We are doing ok just finding our feet.

Hope everyone is ok!

EsmesBees · 17/05/2017 22:10

Sorry to hear that adventure. Hope you are feeling better now. On the pram front, yes it's fine to let them sleep in it during the day (not that my little nap refuser ever would).

Sorry you are feeling low peas but good the car crash wasn't worse.

Sounds like you've been having some positive signs MrsJ. Absolutely no sign of anything here. I think I'm in for the long haul.

MrsJW15 · 17/05/2017 22:22

Oh I hope so @EsmesBees. I'm only 5 days past due date but feeling so miserable about still being pregnant. I spend far too much of my life googling 'what do contractions feel like'.

Hope you are recovering well now @Adventuregame. I'd assume yes on the pram as you take baby out in it for hours. So I don't see any reason why not. Hopefully someone else can confirm.

Any progress @PeachIcedT?

WishIWasSleeping · 17/05/2017 22:42

Peas - glad it wasn't anything major. Hope you're feeling better.

Adventure- Some prams are suitable for overnight sleeping too. (Such as the wayfarer) But regardless of that - yes, I'd say if your little one is willing to sleep in the pram then go for it. I think they say no due to ventilation? DD used to hate her Moses basket so I regularly put her to sleep in her pram. And never wrapped in a towel in her baby bath to sleep whilst I showered... Grin

mightymouse76 · 18/05/2017 00:53

Night all! Can't wait for those of you still carrying to drop and meet your babies.

Hope all the new mums and LOs are really well

We're getting on ok here although tricky due to tongue tie and bad wind.

My boy also point blank refuses to sleep in his cot or Moses basket- arms are the only acceptable form of bedding which is exhausting and anxiety raising...any 2nd/3rd/4th timers with prior experience of this? What did you do?!!!
I've cracked open infacol and a sleepyhead to try and help but nothing has settled/clicked yet.

I will meanwhile try to post some tips for you other 1st timers as soon as I get an arm back/a bit of sleep, on the theme of 'things I wished I'd known before he arrived/remembered after'!

jennymac31 · 18/05/2017 01:50

Mightymouse - I've been using the 'cosydream' pillow for baby nate and he seems fairly happy with this. Unfortunately this pillow wasn't around when I had dd, who never settled in the moses basket or crib. Although I know this is not recommended but we were at our tether with trying to get dd to sleep so would put her in the 'fisher price aquarium take-along swing' as it was the only thing that would put her to sleep. Am really hoping I won't need to use it again for baby boy.

mightymouse76 · 18/05/2017 02:42

Thanks Jenny- slightly cursing my rashness over buying a sleepyhead two days ago. Eye watering! And he laid in it for a total 5 mins before vomming all over it ... so I bought a spare cover too as you can't put them in the tumble dryer. Spare cover on...and he doesn't want to sleep in that either!Confused

mightymouse76 · 18/05/2017 02:45

Also does it not seem the case that the only official recommendation (cot or basket, flat on back) is seemingly the exact opposite of what babies seem to want?! I'm overwhelmed with guilt and anxiety about not being able to do the 'safe' thing...even these pillows get questioned...

Sipperskipper · 18/05/2017 03:56

Hope everyone is doing ok - will catch up on thread when i get a chance!

teainbed · 18/05/2017 03:59

@mightymouse76 keep persisting with the cot or sleepyhead or whatever, he will get it eventually. Warming it with a hot water bottle can help as can adding something like a muslin with some breastmilk on it or a tshirt you have worn. Have a read about whether you feel ok with it but swaddling can be a godsend with babies that don't want to be put down. I have found wrapping/swaddling and waiting until they're in a really deep sleep before laying the baby down worked.

I think you end up making decisions sometimes that don't fit the guidelines, but very few people can say they followed guidelines to the letter. Whether it's breastfeeding for the recommended period, SIDS advice, weaning, the guidelines are just that - a guide, not the law. Only you and you OH can decide what is best for the three of you.

beanturnipandspud · 18/05/2017 05:02

Pregnancy insomnia has hit again .... been awake since 3.30am, can't wait to have a reason to be awake at this time 😊

Congrats to all the new mummies and babies. I've lost Track of where we are up to they're coming so quick and fast now 💙💕💙💕

@mightymouse76 I second what @teainbed says, the official guidelines don't always work for your baby or for you as parents. Bean was a nightmare sleeper for the first 4-5 nights, eventually I made the call is it safer to fall asleep with him in my arms or safer to put him in his Moses basket On his tummy. I chose the latter and he slept for 4hours. Turnip was the same and would only sleep on her front. But then I am exactly the same hence pregnancy insomnia 😡
Both mine started doing midnight until 6am from around 6wks old.

Waiting for them to be properly asleep also works, as does the wearing something and giving it them as a comfort. I already have spuds blanket coming to bed with me so it's all ready for him when he makes his arrival 😊

So a little update on us, I have managed to sort a house to stay in for 5 weeks (my nana's) we move on Saturday. I didn't even need to ask her if it was ok if I could organise a hb for her house, she just asked when the kit would be delivered 👍🏼😃 I have organised to see the midwives in that area this morning at 9am and then they are going to deliver the kit this afternoon. So until Saturday I will
Have both houses covered for a hb 😃👍🏼 yay!

Still not 100% about spuds early days being in someone else's house but needs must, and on the positive reduced household bills for 5 weeks, a nana that loves to be a nana so will
Fuss and make sure I am eating etc ... and limited visitors as they won't want to impose on my nana's house, so plenty of family bonding time.

39 weeks today 💙

newbieho · 18/05/2017 05:45

@Adventuregame my goddess me, hope it will get better from now. My plan is to put baby to sleep for a nap in the pram downstairs during the day, although I have not tried it yet.

Welcome back @peasandquiet and @uptown8617

@Rabbitykins55 hope you and the little boy are okay

@mightymouse76 As @teainbed and @beanturnipandspud said don't beat yourself up - parenthood is bloody hard and every baby is different. My DH have got mini meltdown yesterday as the baby newbie boy did not want to settle with him at all. The little one have got also windy explosive poops (sorry for TMI) that sent me to dr google and I've nearly called hospital ward. It appeared that the little boy emptied one breast and was still hungry and it got better when I offered second breast to him. Typical rookie mum mistake

@beanturnipandspud You've got lovely nana, what a golden woman!

Keeping fingers crossed for @MrsJW15 and @PeachIcedT

Rockyroad17 · 18/05/2017 06:03

@mighty we had the same problem with putting down in the moses. Midwife suggested rolling up a blanket to put under the sheet of the moses in a u shape around her (u bit at the foot end). It is essentially the same as a sleepyhead. She will sleep in there for 3 hours no problem now... apparently they use the same thing in the NICU / SCBU or whatever it's called.

As you can probably tell.. I had the baby! A couple of weeks ago now, right on time which was not what I expected. Been a tough / incredible couple of weeks but fingers crossed we're getting there. Hope all the new mums are enjoying themselves and to everyone still waiting - good luck! One little tip- buy some dextrose tablets to chew on during labour; I couldn't face eating anything so they were good to keep energy levels up.

RasperryInAMelon · 18/05/2017 06:05

Lots to catch up on... been AWOL for a few days...

Nothing much going on other than a few twinges and loss of plug, 39+1 now and just utterly exhausted so have been sleeping a lot!

DH and I visited QE Hospital last night for a ward tour. 100% put the frighteners in me about 'what if' I have to go to Delivery Suite... I'm petrified of hospitals as it is.

That said. I've got my assessment today for the Birthing Centre so will hopefully know by the end of the day what the plan is!

So lovely to see all of the beautiful babies joining us and hopefully it won't be much longer for the rest of us now!

savagehk · 18/05/2017 06:07

mighty try a stretchy wrap, or lie on your bed next to baby to see if it'll sleep with you closer by? (Obvs if so make sure you prevent baby rolling out when asleep and ideally don't try it when you're completely exhausted yourself).
