@yellowismyfavourite I asked my MIL who's a HV (yeah aren't I lucky) & she says the look around the home and meeting the midwife is purely for safeguarding to see if we are safe at home, and our home is safe. My HV has cancelled due to staff shortages and I've asked not to have the midwife. Controversial I know, but I'm a grown woman who works at the surgery where the midwives do! They have all met my husband several times.

1004Rise · 29/03/2017 17:22

I'm getting stabbed in the ribs by a random body part, hopefully it's a foot but it's painful. Baby is not paying attention to my gentle nudges to move Confused Feel like I want to lie out on my front to stretch out, clearly that's no going to happen Hmm

savagehk · 29/03/2017 17:32

Peculiar that the midwives and HV both want to have a nosey? My 36w is at home but only because I'm going for a home birth so they need to check any issues (eg access, enough space to give birth, etc!) plus deliver a box of goodies they may need during labour.

nursebickypegs · 29/03/2017 17:36

@savagehk I said to the midwife that I'm not having a home birth so I'm not 100% sure why you need to see my house. we live on the edge of Nottingham where there is a high crime rate, high domestic violence and high drug crime is high, the midwife and HV need to see the house. My friend who lives in a sleepy village by the coast didn't get one!

nursebickypegs · 29/03/2017 17:40

Sorry if my last post didn't make sense, had a cat on the bump trying to get some attention 🙄

RasperryInAMelon · 29/03/2017 17:54

I leave you lot to it for 24 hours and it takes me a whole train ride to catch up!

I've been quite busy this week doing a handover with my replacement ahead of starting Mat Leave on Monday! 😬

32 weeks today and DH and I are also off to our first NCT session tonight, looking forward to it, but also a bag of anxious nerves with meeting new people APU.

@astormgivenflesh and @nursebickypegs I've shed a few tears with my movement too. I feel terrible and know I should cherish it, but it bloody hurts sometimes and really stops me in my tracks

@Rabbitykins55 BH is an odd thing I think when your a first timer and have no idea what exactly you should be feeling! 🙈

@RedBlu you poor thing! I hope you've been getting lots of rest today. Sounds super scary, look after yourself lady! 💐 I know it's hard not to worry about work and not wanting to let people down - but it's all about you and LO now. People will understand I assure you.

@Tickyboovicki I saw yesterday a thread on here with a lady who had her baby over the weekend, I think - she was due the first week of May 😱

@lucieloos the pain comes and goes - like @Badgerbird I've been getting terrible back pain too. As @EsmesBees says, if in doubt though, call the MW - always best!

@vanilla8 I'm due to start going through my 'Birth Wishlist' (they don't call it a birthplan here because things don't always go to plan) at my 32 week appointment on Monday

@savagehk that's mad! I've literally seen the same midwife every appointment from booking to now. Sadly it's unlikely that she'll be at the hospital during labour.

@nursebickypegs sounds like you've had a lovely day! ☺

@1004Rise same over here, I've got the wriggliest little bean today!

yellowismyfavourite · 29/03/2017 18:00

nurseb I said that to DH and he is going to drop into the conversation as many times as he can with the mw that he works in the safeguarding field... I think I am going to count! We probably live in a high risk area too so that makes sense. Saves me driving to the surgery anyway!

Rabbitykins55 · 29/03/2017 18:04

@Brightsmoke woohoo! Glad it's useful!

astormgivenflesh · 29/03/2017 18:06

At my scan the sonographer said baby was 'bang on average,' midwife said she was a bit big and consultant said she is a bit under so GOD KNOWS what they are all on about!

So glad others have struggled with kicking! People look at me like I've just said I get my kicks running over puppies when I tell them that I don't really enjoy baby moving! I mean, SURE it's great that she's active and so comfortable kicking my organs from one side of my body to the other but I could bloody well do without it, esp at night when I'm just desperate to sleep!

We need to buy a pram, thinking of getting it the weekend of baby show in Surrey. Any recommendations? Obv heard good things about the egg and icandy but are there any gems you'd suggest we look at?

❤️❤️❤️❤️

RasperryInAMelon · 29/03/2017 18:12

@astormgivenflesh we've gone for the Silvercross Wayfarer Chelsea, but I think it also really depends on what you want to do / where you want to go with it

astormgivenflesh · 29/03/2017 18:18

@RasperryInAMelon We don't have any plans to go up mountains or off road or anything so just want a nice looking one to use for walks and out and about. Needs to be light as I have a chronic illness so can't manage a heavy weight and needs to be good for a 5"3 woman and a 6"2 guy to use without much trouble! We both want something that looks great and folds well and aren't too bothered by cost xxx

Brightsmoke · 29/03/2017 18:21

My birthplan was done at 34 week app. I would defo push to have it if you haven't yet, it's nice having it all written down and sorted.

I haven't had any contact from HV yet, but we do live in a low crime rate area.

I'm very jealous of the sound of your room MrsJW. I don't have anywhere at work I can go to relax in, I could bring a blow up bed in to lay down on I guess! My work isn't geared up for pregnancy, and hardly has any females at all, but I know they would have tried to sort something if I mentioned it. Only 4 days left now, and Tuesday, my last day, I leave half way through as I have my next Midwife's appointment, so technically only 3.5 days left, woo!!

Sipperskipper · 29/03/2017 18:23

I've had an appt for a HV home visit too, for next week. Falls at the same time as 1st antenatal class though so need to change it!

Had 34wk midwife appt today, baby is in the right position (back to my left side, head down) and 2/5 engaged, whatever that means! She was a bit worried about my nighttime itching though, so I have to have bloods on Friday for Obstetric Cholestasis. Hopefully will all be ok though, feel fine otherwise. She also gave me her guess on baby's birth weight - between 8lb & 8lb7 was her estimate! Think that is pretty average nowadays.

Hope everyone is keeping well, enjoy your final few days at work those of you gearing up for maternity leave!

Brightsmoke · 29/03/2017 18:28

astorm, we have the bugaboo buffalo, which is meant for off road, which I know you don't need, so I would look at other bugaboos if money isn't too much of an issue. The buffalo seems great, has great reviews, folds up well (though I have a huge car, so might be worth looking into more if you don't, though the other versions do go smaller) and IMO looks and feels great, especially with the leather type handle! I'm so impressed with it and can't wait to test it out, I wish the mutt was cleaner with less claws, he'd definitely be getting a ride 😂

astormgivenflesh · 29/03/2017 18:31

@Brightsmoke ooh I have looked at the bugaboo and do love it but when Ive seem them with the basket/bag/storage (what are those bits called?!) but underneath, it looks a bit odd to me?! Like the two bits are too close together. Maybe I'll love it more in person!

MrsJW15 · 29/03/2017 18:38

Astorm you could look at the Bugaboo Bee, which is light and folds well. There are a few other options in that city category as well like the BabyZen. We rejected those largely because my tall husband didn't like how low the baby sat. They also don't seem the sturdiest option.

We spent a long time looking at options that suited a small me and a very tall him. We narrowed it down to the Silver Cross Wayfarer, the Uppababy Cruz and the Joolz Day 2. We've gone with the Joolz, which is a brand new model. It folds beautifully and looks lovely. I'm quite excited by it!

Sipperskipper · 29/03/2017 18:41

bright I've got the Buffalo too! It's still waiting patiently in its box to be assembled. Maybe a job for this weekend....

Brightsmoke · 29/03/2017 18:47

Sipper, I wish I had your patience 😂 I wanted it up as soon as I got it, it does look beautiful sitting in my nursery lol. What colour did you go for? We went for the grey melange as not sure on what sex baby is, so nice and neutral and I just love it 😂

nursebickypegs · 29/03/2017 18:51

So jealous @RasperryInAMelon that you have seen the same midwife. I've met 4 so far, but one regular one who is sadly leaving. She's lovely and was so supportive when we found out about his heart.

@yellowismyfavourite haha! Yes and let me know the count! I was a little offended when they first suggested it, but I understand why. We live on an edge on a Notorious estate in Nottingham, and teen pregnancy is high here with lots of generations living under one roof. When I think about it, I realise how much I take our life for granted.

@astormgivenflesh we have a Kinder Moov and it's so smooth and lovely. We got it from precious little one, £200 with a code from Emma's Diary. I'll link you the video...

I desperately wanted a Cosatto in bright colours, but I couldn't afford it.

MIL is in America at the moment. She's just sent me 10 photos of clothes at Baby Gap, Osh Kosh B'Gosh, Disney outlets and went "pick what you want". There are so many dungarees!!!!!!

astormgivenflesh · 29/03/2017 18:54

So many great ideas, can't wait to try a few out at the baby show now!

MissMooMoo · 29/03/2017 19:05

We have gone for the raspberry by icandy @astormgivenflesh. I am about 5'4 and DH is 6'2.
Handle extended a bit further than the bugaboo bee and its slightly lighter although no carrycot.
I have seen on the icandy website that they have a new accessory for it that you can use to raise the seat up.
We felt the YOYO was too low to the ground and just too small for us.

KLane · 29/03/2017 19:10

@Brightsmoke @Sipperskipper SO excited about our Buffalo. We got it in November (went for the classic navy) so assembled it to check it was all in order, then disassembled it for storage. Can't wait to reassemble and learn all the lovely techniques it has! AND to test it on some off roading paths Grin

teainbed · 29/03/2017 19:23

I gone for a Baby Jogger storm. Very very light and manoeuvrable and I've had loads of different buggies over the years. I went for the GT as I wanted to better off road wheels but the normal one looks fine too.

ClaireSunflower · 29/03/2017 19:26

We've got a cosatto giggle 2. It was an absolute bargain in the January sales and got even more off as it was the last one in store so got the display model, which is in perfect condition about from a few tiny scuffs to the wheels

peasandquiet · 29/03/2017 19:30

Astorm I'd probably go for a bugaboo cam or an icandy peach. Think you get style and substance with those two. Hope you can get one ordered and arrived in time and don't end up with your heart sent on something that's out of stock till July.
Feeling rotten today, literally sick and tired. Toddler bedtime in a minute and don't think I'll be far behind.
Nurse my MIL is also in the US hadn't thought to send her out for baby clothes. Tho I will probably send her to toys r us for some diff bit for the toddler as he loves some of the America shows!
