missmoomoo depends on the brand, really, but newborn wee/poo isn't great volumes so I prewashed maybe twice I think. Maximum absorbency is something like 6-8 washes?

RedBlu · 29/03/2017 10:25

So I am home today. Midwife advised me to stay home for at least today as I am still not feeling right. Their advice is to get signed off sick until maternity leave starts so I have called the doctors to ask to be signed off on a weekly basis.

To be honest, I feel shit - I feel like I am letting my team down and that my boss is really pissed off with me. I know they cannot "do anything" but I just feel so on edge

Rustler74 · 29/03/2017 10:31

@RedBlu you can't help it as you're clearly (admittedly) not fit for work. As long as your gp and midwife supports you, they can't do anything. You're looking after two people's bodies now so rest up and chill out! Flowers

Badgerbird · 29/03/2017 10:34

Oh red it's not your fault and it really can't be helped. It's not like you're skiving off, you are growing a whole human being inside of you that you are responsible for (not to freak you out!), professionals have told you to take it easy, it's serious shit. You're not being awkward!
Have you been at your work long enough that they know you have a strong work ethic and wouldn't take the mickey? I'm sure you have and you can only do your best and right now you need to put your own and babies health first by the sound of it. Please try not to be so hard on yourself.

RedBlu · 29/03/2017 11:18

I have worked there eleven years but my sickness record isn't great. Beginning of this pregnancy I was off for six weeks with HG. Then had a few days off with migraines. Last week was off due to SPD....

It's just crap. Before being pregnant I had time off on occasion for migraines, sickness, etc I am just the sort of person who gets ill so easy. Never triggered the sickness warning level but when you are in a team who rarely ever seem to get sick, it just makes me stand out.

God I feel shit!

EsmesBees · 29/03/2017 12:46

I feel for you Red. I'm also not very good at having time off or taking it easy. But your priorities are going to change very soon and you probably won't care about work half as much as you do now. People get sick and need time off work. That's life and your boss and team will cope.

Tickyboovicki · 29/03/2017 13:23

@lullaby23 thats definitely my plan, i will be delivering all the instructions and doing not a lot with any luck!
Glad you've taken their adivce @RedBlu! I was signed off for a fortnight in decemeber and hated the feeling, but it absolutely did me the world of good, and work were actually very understanding despite my worries!

vanilla8 · 29/03/2017 13:29

@RedBlu it's only natural to feel guilty, but please don't, you have to look after yourself and the baby.

I'm 32 weeks today sitting in the clinic waiting room, and over the last two days feel like I have had a massive growth spurt and baby has been so active. Struggled to bend over and put my trainers on, right rib pain is really sore.

Barnes79 · 29/03/2017 14:29

Had my second NCT class last night. Thankfully better than the first! We looked at positions for labour and DH's got to try massage to help during labour. I hate massage (which, as a physio, some people find odd) so my poor DH wasn't really able to do much. Had a good giggle though.

Then had my 31 week midwife appointment this morning. Bump is still waaaay below the 10th centile but had grown 2cm in the last 3 weeks. However as it now measures 27cm, compared to the scan result at week 28 which said LO was equivalently the size of a 28cm bump, no one knows what they're meant to do with me! Midwife (and me) aren't concerned as the bump has grown, but she can't check the growth is "appropriate" as she doesn't have a curve to follow, and the sonographers don't know if I need rescanning as the bump has grown but is still measuring below the scan estimate. Confused The midwife was faxing my growth curve to the sonographers to get some more advice so I just have to wait to hear what the next step is (if anything is needed at all).

1004Rise · 29/03/2017 14:38

@RedBlu it's easy to say but try not to feel guilty, I know I would feel exactly the same if I were you but as everyone else has said you have two people to worry about now, healthy happy mum = healthy happy baby. If you weren't pregnant and had been taken to hospital in an ambulance yesterday you wouldn't think twice about not being at work this week.

@Tickyboovicki I'd seriously consider getting the movers to pack for you (they always leave the kettle & tea cupboard til last) it's so much easier and unpacking is no where near as disorganised as you think. They take a box to the corner of the room and pack that whole corner, so everything that was together is still together at the other end and labelled. Whereas when I pack I end up trying to put all the same things in one box so wander round the house looking for cds or something. Which means when you move you only need to unpack the boxes in the rooms you need rather that rooting through 20 boxes for stuff for the corner of the lounge GrinGrin

We had our last NHS ante-natal class today, again it was only DH & I there so personal service again! We talked through all the forms of pain relief, before and after, and we even did a bit of hypnobirthing with the midwife Grin She's very much of the try not to go down the intervention route because once you start it tends to lead to more. She was explaining how labour is all hormone driven so if you can keep your oxytocin up and your adrenaline down it will all go much more smoothly, which is why she's such an advocate of the hypnobirthing Smile She was also very practical in explaining when other methods of pain relief actually have their place... like at 2am when you've been in the first stage for 2 days and you're still only 2cm and it would be really useful if you could just sleep for a few hours to be more ready for the next bit... then morphine is useful. I think we both feel much more comfortable with all the options so if someone suggests something at some point we know what I'm saying yes on no to!

MrsJW15 · 29/03/2017 14:38

Gosh Barnes how complicated. Hope they figure it out soon!

One couple at our NCT really got the giggles during that birth positions/massage bit and he had to leave the room. We were left trying to figure out if they were laughing or crying!

Slept so, so badly last night. Struggling through the day and contemplating a quick trip to the meditation room at work for a brief lie down. Four weeks of work to go...

vanilla8 · 29/03/2017 15:05

At what point are birth plans discussed?
I'm feeling a bit in limbo as just seen consultant and next appointment is with him again at 36 weeks. They said I have to book community midwife for 34 weeks but haven't actually seen my community midwife yet, just always been at the hospital Confused

teainbed · 29/03/2017 15:16

Goodness. Giving birth again. All getting a bit real now isn't it?

Red I can understand why how you're feeling I think but agree with everyone else, you don't have a choice. Just because it's pregnancy related doesn't make it any less legitimate!

I'm 35 weeks today. Smile One more morning at work and then I'm done! Had antenatal clinic yesterday and induction was mentioned for the first time. Start weekly monitoring next week and liquor volume scans.

savagehk · 29/03/2017 15:20

I thought birth plans would be the appt I've just had (34w) but it wasn't. I did ask for home birth team and my next appt is now at home (36w).

Given here you see a different mw each appt and the ones you see aren't likely to be the ones attending you in labour, I think they just expect you to print it out and hand it to them when you arrive at hospital/MLU!

If you want to discuss any points, I'd suggest asking specifically at your next appt when birth plans are discussed (if at all).

KLane · 29/03/2017 15:26

I asked my midwife at which appt birth plans are discussed as DH would like to attend that appointment specifically, and she said 36 weeks (at least for our area).

MrsJW15 · 29/03/2017 15:33

My notes indicate it should be 34 weeks. I have that appointment next week, so I'm going to ask then. But I'm going prepared with what I want to say!

Just went to the mediation room in the office and definitely fell asleep for a bit Blush

savagehk · 29/03/2017 15:42

To me it'd make sense for them to discuss the options at 34w and then have you come back at 36w with the plan you want, so that by 38w (when you're term!) it's all sorted, but who knows....

Rockyroad17 · 29/03/2017 15:50

Totally random question, is a sore scalp a pregnancy thing? It is similar to the feeling when you have slept with a hairband in too tightly. I had it a few weeks ago when I had a cold, so assumed it was just to do with that - but I have it again!

Rockyroad17 · 29/03/2017 15:51

Also, @mrsjw meditation room?! That sounds great.

nursebickypegs · 29/03/2017 16:06

@RedBlu I know exactly how you feel Red. Since I started in the NHS I've had "big bouts" of sickness; death in the family, pancreastitis resulting in huge abdomen and bowel surgery, broke my leg last year, miscarriage and now SPD and bubs heart condition. Work will understand, trust me on this. They want you well!!! Please don't feel guilty.

I'm having a great day ladies. DH is off, so we went into town for a pancake breakfast, went to see Beauty and the Beast and because we were the only ones we danced to Tale as Old as Time giggling our heads off and then I managed to get a colourful pair of converse in the sale for £20. Just one of those days were you feel super loved and so lucky to bring a baby into the world. :)

MrsJW15 · 29/03/2017 16:08

RockyRoad I know! It's called the contemplation room, actually, and I'm not totally sure what it's really meant for. But I went in and turned the lights off and lay down which was great. One of the joys of being in a really big organisation - they have a lot of these things.

Nurse that sounds amazing!

nursebickypegs · 29/03/2017 16:34

@MrsJW15 I DREAM of this room at my work!!!! I hide in my car and count to 100!!!

teainbed · 29/03/2017 16:38

That sounds amazing. Actually I'd like some of those sleep pods......

MrsJW15 · 29/03/2017 16:56

Tea sleep pods sound great! Other people can walk into the room, and I think the lights come on automatically so that would be a shock! Nurse no car to hide in here - just the tube station.

yellowismyfavourite · 29/03/2017 17:15

barnes that's really confusing! red I would and did feel the same when I took time off in October but nothing is more important than you and your baby... and most people understand. I think if they are in the small minority that don't then their opinions aren't worth listening to anyway!
Our birth plan is being done at 36w at home... anyone know why we have to have a home appointment? Feel a bit spied on as HV is also doing a home visit next week... house needs a good scrub this weekend.

Had another growth scan today. Growth has slowed but within the margin of error... Baby is 5 lb 6 oz already with a massive head on 86th centile but tiny legs on 8th centile. They seemed happy and sent me back to mw.
