slight change from the one i had planned but figured we'll only truly be hard-boiled once we're overdue!

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 09:19

Hi weeonion, how's bonny scotland
Do you think I can qualify as a bump that 'wants to be' north of the border???

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 09:20

Thanks MIABT, dh was lovely last night and treated me to curry and a bun bless him.
Have got people viewing the house today but will rest when I can.

muminabigtumi · 04/03/2007 09:20

Katy - not meaning to distract you - but they do still sell the door frame bouncers. They are great from when little one is abe to hold head up firmly (approx 4-5 months) James hated it at first but I kept trying it every few weeks, he ended up loving his and would happily bounce away!

Morning Weeonion!

muminabigtumi · 04/03/2007 09:23

Oh Fingers crossed for the viewings!
Glad DH has been looking after you.

I wish I could relax and not do very much but does anyone else find they get bored?? I'm sitting here with a cup of tea thinking...right - I could do ironing or get dressed and go get paper etc - why can't I just SIT STILL!!!!! - I feel guilty relaxing - like there are other things I should be doing!
x

Katy44 · 04/03/2007 09:23

Do you think they do them for adults? Apparently I used to love mine!
Good luck with the house viewing flumppootle! We had two couples looking at ours yesterday, unfortunately I think the ones who had sold their house weren't really interested.

Right, am shutting down MN!

octopussyintummy · 04/03/2007 09:24

Having huge crisis - ds2 didn't get a place at primary school - its in the next village - ds1 goes there - 38 applications and 26 places - am appealing obviously but completely stressed out. Am not going to send him anywhere else as physically can't be in two places at once so if appeal isn't successful will just have to wait for a place to come up and keep him in preschool - feel reaally bad for him - he is really excited about going to school.

Considering moving aswell as will push him up to the top of the list being a local sibling.

Retreating into own little world for a bit while sort my head out!

Katy44 - I'm CFK!!!

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 09:25

ROLF isn't that called being a mum MIABT?

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 09:29

Oh, octo thats not good. They do things like that with schools here, I dont know how they think that mummies can be in two places at once. Good luck with the appeal.

Will let you all know how todays viewings go

weeonion · 04/03/2007 09:35

hey flump - bonny scotland actually loks dry this morning ! it was a really nice day here yesterday - the sky was so clear for teh eclipse. you do indeed qualify for a "bump north of teh border" - not long til you are actaully here roll on icecreams in teh park together !!!

MIABT_ hey to you too!!

a big piece of advice!!!! we were converting some very lovely shelves in teh nursery into wardrobes with hanging rails etc but our handsome but fking dim handyman has made a total cockup of them ( what a absolute eejit - really, truly, incredibly stupid!) do people think it is importnat to have rails to hang wee ones clothes from or woudl they do folded?? i had my heartt set on having them on all colour coded, accordign to size (sad i know0 but now me and dp have had such a row as he feels we just make do with the ballsed up version.

time is hoofuing on - this flat still all looks liek a bombsite and i just want a day when i canget a lie in and not to be carting boxes round the place.

dp still thinks we have 6 weeks to do this all in - and still expects me to be able to be diy queen as he is yet another clumsy, handless man who needs constant supervision over every little step.

sorry for the rant. i ahve been up since 6am doing bits and bobs and he is in bed "tired and needs to build up reserves"

muminabigtumi · 04/03/2007 09:38

Oh god Octopussy what a total nightmare!
I really feel for you - I (stupidly) thought that if one sibling went to a school any others pretty much automatically got in??
Itis a real worry this school choice malarkey - I am taking James to look round the one that we think we want him to go to next Tuesday but competition is FIERCE as it got 7 Outstanding grades at it's last OFSTED inspection so everyone wants to get in there.

Luckily for us it is our nearest school, but like you say nothing seems to be guaranteed - it just all seems a bit of a lottery. Very good luck with your appeal - another stress I'm sure you really could be doing without!

Katy - if you are reading this consider yourself told off and GO DO SOME WORK!

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 09:42

Oh dear weeonion, if it makes you feel any better my dh is still in bed too.

Shelves or hanging eh? Tiny clothes are fine folded BUT it is nice to hang the new ones up and I am another one who hangs them according to size etc
Sorry if that doesn't help.

Dry in scotland and pouring with rain in Wiltshire hopefully wont be long until we are up there . Think that baby will be another Wiltshire one though

muminabigtumi · 04/03/2007 09:42

Weeonion..

I would definatley go for folded...
I bought a wardrobe for James before he was born and the rail is currently empty and all of his clothes are now in a 6 drawer chest of drawers (one for socks and pants, one for vests and T shirts, one for jumpers etc etc to satisfy the inner organiser!!)

TBH the wardrobe is just standing there with bin bags of clothes in the bottom of it that I need to sort through when baby comes and we need to get shut of the wardrobe as it is just wasting space.

I just found it easier that everything is folded once it is ironed and I can't be faffed with putting small things on small hangers.

Plus you can get more clothes in a chest of drawers, I also find it useful as I have a drawer for stuff that is next size up etc and can regularly and easily sort through the drawers as to what is too small etc and keep on top of things. Have just bought a new chest of drawers for new baby too.

Sorry your Handy man wasn't so ....handy....

weeonion · 04/03/2007 09:47

ta to you too. i know i can be a bit of perfectionist but want things to be practical as well!

otcopussy - that is a nightmare. will he fare a better chance if you leave it for a year/ 6 mths?? i cant believe this whole lottery idea for schools.

northern ireland is very differnt - especially for secondary schools. they still have the 11+ system - grammar and comp. i dont have clue about the scottish one - either primary or secondary but have read a report on the local scholl- not so complmentary!

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 09:58

MIABT and any others with a planned cs. Do you pack anything different in your hospital bags or leave anything out?
I would love some advice on this because I dont know whether to pack the same as before or not.

liath · 04/03/2007 10:08

WO I use hanging space for some of dd's clothes - mainly dresses and nice tops. You'd manage without one but it's handy for girls clothes to keep dresses & skirts uncrumpled. We know a fantasic handyman who lives in West Linton so he might go through to Glasgow, if you ever need someone really good (though not so handsome, maybe) let me know.

All this talk of crumpled clothing reminds me I ought to be ironing....

Flump, that stair fall sounds ghastly, hope you and dd are feeling OK today.

Have been a very nice wife this weekend and let DH lie in both days. He's been looking knackered recently. However am about to force him into the garden to tie back climbing roses!

Katy44 · 04/03/2007 10:20

lurking - but have got quite a bit done in the last ooh 20 mins.
MIABT, thanks - just five more minutes, PLEEEASE

muminabigtumi · 04/03/2007 11:04

muminabigtumi · 04/03/2007 11:07

And amazingly that all fits into 1 large sports bag I got from Argos for £15 it has 3 handy compartments so can have a section for baby clothes etc, my clothes and one for all toiletries etc in case stuff leaks! (a Nike one I think x)

Bugmum · 04/03/2007 11:58

Hi All,
Have been keeping up with the reading, but not really posting. The whole hoo-ha a while back put me off for bit (epitomized all I hate about Mumsnet) and I've also been feeling rather overwhelmed with work and not being ready for the new baby, and still worried about how DS will handle it.

But I had to post today. MIABT you can't be faffed with tiny hangers after IRONING????? I mean, I agree about the tiny hangers (fold, fold, fold) but you iron baby clothes??? Are you secretly Nigella?

Hope everyone is okay, not too sickie and so on.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 04/03/2007 12:00

Hiya loves. Had a quick skim as I am at my parents and don't want to be here too long.

Hope everyone is ok.

Peeing with rain here and finding it hard to keep B occupied poor lamb!

Mammyjo, hope you are ok.

My rib pian is appalling today and the baby is moving around like a mad thing, so not comfortable at all. Hey ho.

You lot have been well chatty again, and MIABT, love all the lists! So organised.

I think once I am on mat leave I can focus on that, although I did buy some witch hazel and arnica yesterday. And some raspberry leaf tablets for later on.

Right, better go.

Back later. xx

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 12:31

MIABT Thankyou so much for the list. I had not even thoughgt about wound dressings etc
The bar of galaxy is now firmly on my list. Is your arnica cream or tablets? I bought some tablets in boots last week but when I got home they had miraculously changed into something called apis mel. so need to go back to boots to change them

I completely agree with the getting dressed as soon as you can, makes me feel so much better.

Have a good weekend SOSPL

WaspELLy, have emailed you my details so hope that you have them.

CaptainDippy · 04/03/2007 12:59

Hello all! Cough still bad - yuk yuk yuk!! DD's sleeping, so should be getting on with packing for Bonny Scotland .... Eeeeek!!

Still completely unorganised for new baby - haven't got anything out for him / her yet and haven't got anything in the way of a hospital bag packed - Pleeeeease someone, tell me I am not the only one ......!!?

Mmmmmmmmmm.....

Did have a wee look at Buggy Pods yesterday and am thinking it might be the way ahead for me. They are compatable with the P&T E3; but apparently make it quite difficiult and cumbersome - not sure I have much choice though, so think I might go with it .....

Thinking we're definitely going to get a new 7-seater car - No idea how we are going to finance it though!! Liking the Vauxhall Zafira - wanting something with 7 seats, but plenty of boot space too - Any other suggestions....??

Neeeeeeed to sort out baby clothes and get crib, car seat, autobase swinging chair and other bits back from friend ....... also need to tihnk about hiring birth pool for homebirth (using a fab Co in Brighton called Gentle Waters) Mmmmmmm, what else, bought a new bouncy chair yesterday - so one less thing to worry about! Ah, yes, need to buy new cot bed!! Eeeeeek .....

Think my head is going to explode .......

EmmyMummy - My bubs is still oblique too - can also push bottom and feel head - feel like my tummy is being pushed so hard from either side it might rip apart!!!!!! (Sorry if tmi!!) Total sympathy here - No talk of scans for me yet though - apparently bubs still hs plenty of time to turn, particularly as it is my 3rd. Guess I wait til my MW appt when I get back from hols ......??

@ not one bloomin' sod helping you with your stair tumble flump - You poor thing!! [hugs] How's the leg today? Must have been horrid for you sweetie.

Right, neeeeeed to concetrate on packing now....

How's the assignment going Katy hon??

Bugmum · 04/03/2007 13:13

CD You are not the only one
I am not even close to being ready. I have not packed so much as a maternity pad. I think I am in denial...

CaptainDippy · 04/03/2007 13:16

"In denial" - Absolutely - That's it!!

Glad it is not just me .....

mammyjo · 04/03/2007 13:36

CD, no bag packed here either but am planning to do it asap after my weekend escapades! Hope your cough eases soon, nightmare when you can take nothing to ease it either.

MIABT, thanks for that list. Have packed a bag before but cannot for the life of me remember everything I need!

Pesha, hope things with XP went ok.

Flump, hope you are feeling a bit less shaken up today. So sad that not one person stopped to help you. I can understand people not wanting to get involved with fights and things but how threatening could a pregnant woman and young child look FGS? Very sad reflection of our society nowadays.

Octo, hope the appeal goes ok for ds2 school. The school my ds goes to has automatic placement for siblings so would hope I would never have that problem. Its just not feasible to expect you to go to two schools every day. Impossible to get them both there to start at 9am.

SOSPL, poor you with the ongoing rib pain. I feel uncomfortable enough without that too. Hope you have a good day.

I still feel sickly today and have had a terrible craving for raspberries. I woke in the middle of the night wanting them so have been to tescos today. Have eaten nearly a whole big punnet so will undoubtedly have a bad stomach later! Weird though as I just dont feel like eating anything else. I know Ellie said her ms was back too so trying not to read too much into it!
Had another bit of a show this morning. Seems to be first thing and then nothing else all day so weird. Niggly belly ache too but that could be the raspberries! I think I am almost making myself think I have labour signs too though! Knowing me I will be the first to have any signs of anything happening and then still end up going two weeks over!
