slight change from the one i had planned but figured we'll only truly be hard-boiled once we're overdue!

eca · 03/03/2007 19:57

evening all!

Mammyjo - glad to hear you're ok! Very exciting that you might be popping soon! I was thinking sickness can be an early sign of labour too...

katy - isn't cornflakekid now 'x-number-of-weeks' or now ocopussy something?? Not sure if i've got that right or just muddled 3 people up with each other!!

We've just won an urban detour travel system on e-bay! Very excited! And it was only £40. I think that has something to do with it being in quite a light colour and a bit of wear and tear. But hopefully it will be ok. MIL lives near where it is so can pick it up for us.

Am getting quite panicy about everything today. Not sure why. 34wks today, so maybe that's on my mind a bit. Baby has been having a right wriggle round too, and sometimes I can't work out if i'm getting BH or if baby's just having a good stretch.

Katy44 · 03/03/2007 20:10

eca, I think you're right.
WCL, thanks for the link - I think I have had those after all

eca · 03/03/2007 20:21

well done for sorting the stats list katy! I had a look at it earlier today and it was so confusing all in one paragraph!!

Katy44 · 03/03/2007 20:23

I have too much time on my hands and am avoiding work!

eca · 03/03/2007 20:28

I nearly tidied it up myself but made myself pack boxes for the loft instead! Oh, what an exciting life i have!

CaptainDippy · 03/03/2007 22:39

Evening - Absolutely manic w/e in DippyLand so far and still all the packing for going away on Tuesday to do - Head is full of a million and one things - Need to go to bed really, but sooo much to dooooo. DH is washing up though, bless him!

Have an awful cough atm - just threw up because I was coughing so much. (Sorry if tmi!)

Mammyjo - Thinking of you hon - what have the mw's said? - Have you been in to check on stuff recently?? Could be early labour, could just be a "PG thing", iykwim - Best to be safe than sorry, just call up your local Unit for a chat. Thinking of you.

Thinking of you too Pesha - difficult situation for you sweetie. Let us know how the meeting went. [hugs]

Sorry - only bits I can remember - Baby is poking me soooo hard this eveing - ow!!

Must go do stuff and get to bed....

Hellcat · 03/03/2007 23:38

Hi all,

been watching eclipse of the moon in back garden.

Pesha - you are supposed to avoid peanuts in breastfeeding too... you are meant to avoid them if you have any ashthma/eczema/hayfever type stuff in the family, which I do - had horrid eczema when small and mum and MIL big on hayfever.

Full jar of peanut butter in pantry staring at me...

Does anyone know about new babies and allergies to cats?

I am only very very mildly alergic to my cat's very fine fur which gets everywhere, but it does make my eyes itch a tiny bit, and the baby is bound to get covered in it as its everywhere./...cats sleeps on the bed and so on. Bit late now to avoid cat hair tho eh?

Thanks for all the tips you experienced ladies, please can we have some more hospital bag lists, and perhaps 10 moist essential things to have sorted back at home?

cheers all

Hellcat · 03/03/2007 23:39

ahem, 10 most essential

Emmymummy · 04/03/2007 07:19

Morning! Have been up since 6am as wide awake and totally bored of just laying there switching from laying on one hip to the other. Have been enjoying the peace and quiet down in the kitchen, but I hear noises from upstairs which means Emily will come barging through the door any minute......

Bugger Hellcat!!! You've just reminded me that I wanted to watch the moon eclipse too, but was zonked on the sofa by 9pm last night and dh had to drag me upstairs to bed. Bum bum bum!!!!! Not quite the same watching it on TV.

Funny as I seem to have all this energy 1st thing in the morning, but by mid-afternoon I'm ready to drop. Am going shopping later today to pick up the final load of bits and bobs for the baby - dh is coming so he can carry everything! Have been reading and nodding my way through the lists of 10 best and 10 worst things to buy and have agreed with pretty much all of them. The only one I didn't concur with was the Avent handheld breast pump - I found it brilliant, really easy & convenient to use. But then I always had plenty of milk, so I guess that's why it worked for me. If you were considering getting one I'd say wait til you've established breast-feeding and see whether you're a Jersey cow (like me). If you are then a hand-held pump may be the way ahead!.

Pesha - hope it all goes OK with XP today. Why's he turning up now to cause turmoil? Hope you get your ground-rules sorted and agreed so he doesn't confuse & upset dd.

Ellie - can't believe Stephen comes on here and lurks! Are you reading this now Stephen? Hope you're not going to come on here pretending to be a pregnant lady. Tut tut, if you're here you should pipe up as we feel we all know you now!

All this talk of peanuts!!! I keep looking at the jar of peanut butter in the cupboard and fantasising about peanut butter on warm toast. Think you are indeed supposed to still avoid peanuts when bfing, esp if you have a family history of excema, asthema etc (I can't spell medical words!) which I do .

As for eating during labour, last time I remember the midwife saying to me "you must eat something, you're gonna be here for ages and you need your energy" and virtually forcing some biscuits down me. Which I promptly threw back up again. I'd just say listen to your body - if you need to eat something then do, but stick to simple things like toast or biscuits and have a bucket close by just in case!

Baby was having major wiggles yesterday, can't help feeling sorry for her as she must be very squashed laying across my tummy. I keep thinking she must be trying to turn herself around to get her head down, but can't seem to make it. I can literally put my hand on her bum on the left hand side of my tummy and push, and then feel her head pushing out the other side of my tummy (feel a bit mean doing this but it's quite fascinating!). Have another scan on Friday so will hopefully find out if I can have her naturally, or will have to be the dreaded CS.

Sorry have rambled on for ages, hope you've all had a decent night's sleep and are feeling bright & breezy today.

Ellieump · 04/03/2007 08:01

you're safe, he's in the shower! i'm gonna set him up with a nickname so he caan post too, he'll prob be too scared too tho!

Morning, hope evryone is having a good weekend.

Where is Ooogs - do you all reckon she's having those babies?????

Busy busy day ysetrday as it was dd's 2nd birthday and we had my parents, sister and a couple of friends over. Only 3 toddlers, which was enough! Spent all morning baking and have some yummy left overs today - choc chip cookie anyone?

My best buys were - cloth nappies, medela breast pump, cheapo plastic feeding chair, cot bed, flannels. I thought the disposible pants were fab, have already got my supply in for this time!

Worst buys - baby bath, "outfits" for when she was little as only ever put her in babygros/sleepsuits at first, newborn size snow suit - used once then it was too warm, any baby shampoo/lotion/bubble bath etc - never used them.

In fact, my top tip would be to bath the baby as little as possible and only ever use water or if they have dry skin something like oilatum. Johnson & Johnson have a lot to answer for IMO - the less you fiddle with babies skin the better especially if there's any eczema in the family.

I think with cats, the more the baby's exposed the less likely they'll be allergic. Am not a cat fan, though & am very allergic to the b*ggers.

muminabigtumi · 04/03/2007 08:21

Morning!

Mammyjo - hope you are ok - sounds like something is definatley occurring but as you said I've also read you can have more than one show...I did think that the sickness thing was an ominous sign though - I remember having a show and then the next day "a big clear out" before labour began!

Dogin - Nice to see you love - you sound like you are all organised now.

Pesha - ditto the champagne on ice when baby is born!!! Also I had eczema as a child but TBH I had peanuts in last pregnancy and James is fine so I have not bothered about avoiding peanuts this time. I haven't gone out of my way to eat them but I have had peanut butter with Jam on toast alot recently....(sorry Hellcat!) I guess I'm running a risk but I'm not worrying about it TBH.

EllieK and Katy - Hi! Sorry was not around last night or I would have popped on for a chat - I was too tired after al my cleaning exertions!

Mammyjo - glad you are feeling bright and breezy this morning. James was up at 5.45 but went back to bed till 7.10 which was more civilised! He's now fully ensconsced in front of the TV watching WOw Wow Wubsy!

Hellcat - as for 10 things to sort out at home...
Not sure I'll get 10 but

  1. Have some meals frozen to just defrost so that you are not ending up eating too much takeaway

  2. Have takeaway numbers handy just in case

  3. Even if intend to BF have a bottle and emergency carton of formula just in case

  4. Organise Online Shopping - in my opinion it is a godsend

  5. Buy a few spare Birthday/Anniversary cards and keep them in a drawer as there will be times you WILL forget.

6)Sort out your bills so that it is all Direct Debit and you don't have to worry about sending things off to be paid.

  1. Have a little box downstair as well as upstairs with nappies, wipes, cream etc - save you trekking up and down stairs - also in Day have Moses basket or similar downstairs for baby to sleep in (I felt it helped make bedtime more distinctive tot he baby as it was a different room and place to sleep).

  2. Get an answering machine if you haven't got one.

  3. Pre write birth announcement card envelopes and stamp them up so if you are going to do this you don't have a mammoth task after baby is born

  4. Pre warn visitors re visiting times - have your note ready for the door.

  5. Try and have a good clean and get on top of your washing before you have baby and accept all offers of help and cleaning and ironing etc from anyone who is kind enough to offer.

Great list MIABT. Have started filling the freezer already.

Would add - get LOADS of paracetomol & ibuprofen in.

Katy44 · 04/03/2007 09:01

Morning everyone
Today I am DEFINITELY going to finish my assignment. So if I come on here wanting to chat, tell me off and /or ignore me.

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 09:06

Morning all

Love all the lists! Would just like to add that our best buy has always been the baby rocker chair (a bit like a bouncy chair but lies flat and rocks) Have treated this one to a new one.
Agree with emmymummy about the Avent hand held pump but was another Jersey cow! I also found that if you pump at the same time as feeding from the other boob then you can use the let down reflex from the baby sucking the other one and will be able to pump a full feed.

Hope that today goes well for you Pesha and is not too stressful.

How are you feeling Mammyjo and Ellie?

Have a good holiday in Scotland cd very

Sorry I cant remember anything else at the moment.
Feeling very low this weekend. I took the dds and a friend to the cinema on Sat for her postponed birthday treat. Then went for a meal afterwards. On our way out we had to go down a flight of stone steps. DD2 froze and took a moment to herself just as we started to descend (she has a fear of heights) and we both ended up falling down the stairs
Mothering intstinct meant that I was so busy holding her head and back that I had no hands for myself. I have hurt my leg and had the fright of my life. The thing which really upset me was that although it was really busy not one person helped us
Managed to keep it together long enough to get the friend and then us home. Driving was agony, then sobbed for about an hour.
Feel like I'm not safe to be let out and like I have just made dd2s fear of heights worse.

Katy44 · 04/03/2007 09:10

Oh flumppootle how awful. Glad you and your DD didn't break anything. Would you possibly be able to go back and show your DD you're not scared? Make a joke of the flight of stairs not getting the best of you this time, just so she doesn't build it up?
Sorry if that's insensitive, I don't really have any real phobias, so I don't know whether that's possible. xx

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 09:13

Thanks Katy

My dh has the same phobia so I think that he has to resolve his before dd resolves hers. She wont go anywhere near the steps today but I might try again in a few weeks.
How's the assignment

Katy44 · 04/03/2007 09:14

Can I just check, when people talk about bouncy chairs, do they mean something like this ? Or is that a rocking chair?

Katy44 · 04/03/2007 09:15

Assignment - going fantastic, thanks

Oh sorry, I thought you also had a fear of heights, it's your DH and DD.

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 09:15

Thats a bouncy chair Katy

Katy44 · 04/03/2007 09:16

Good! My parents had a bouncer they hung from the doorframe, think I was pretty much stood in it, so I didn't know if that was a bouncy chair, although I don't think they're sold any more.

weeonion · 04/03/2007 09:16

oh flump - how bloody awful for you. cant believe not a bugger stopped to help a heavily pregant woman and wee one. rest up. xoxoxoooxoxoxoxooxoxooxx

katy - get off this computer and into your work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

flumppootle · 04/03/2007 09:17

Flumpootle

You poor poor thing - you must have both got a real fright. I can't beleive no one tried to help you....but then again...I can I suppose - it's very sad.

Don't beat yourself up - accidents can and do happen. You get your feet up and try and do as little as possible.
