sah I Loved that article!! Not just for the bf side of things but expectations of baby to act/behave in a certain way. What a wonderful reminder thankyou.

There seems to be quite a bit of bf support in my area. I think along with the weekly pregnancy clubs, ante natal course for couples, breathing & relaxation workshop etc (all free) we are pretty well looked after here.

Hope your midwife app went well raspberry I've got mine today too. Pick up matb1 and sort whooping cough jab. Anything else I need to know/do/ask?

Also off with my mum to investigate an all terrain buggy travel system in mothercare today. Shall report back for those interested :)

RasperryInAMelon · 06/02/2017 11:42

All went well thanks Badger heartbeat is nice and strong, got a letter confirming that she's happy for me to fly next month and she's booked my 28 and 32 week appointments.

I need to call next month to book all of my antenatal classes too.

We had a quick chat about labour and birth plans, but she said we'd pick up on that more at 36 weeks.

Have you had a flu jab too?

High 5 to 100 days max Cinnamon and other May 3rd ladies!!

Rasperry thanks for reminding me, got the number to call for antenatal classes a good couple of weeks ago but it's an answerphone service and keep missing each other. Must try calling again, terrified of being told there is no room left...

PeachIcedT · 06/02/2017 13:06

How many classes do you tend to get on the NHS? I've booked mine but it seems to be just one 2 hour session - I don't think that'll teach me all I need to know about looking after a baby Confused

ginandcake · 06/02/2017 13:15

When I did them 4 years ago I got 6 one hour sessions and then an extra 2 hour sessions specifically about movements/breathing to do in labour. One 2 hour session is not a lot. But even with these sessions there wasn't much about what you actually do with the baby more about labour, pain relief and breast feeding.

savagehk · 06/02/2017 13:26

Last time my NHS ones were more focused on birth/labour. Think it was about 2 hours on that. There was another women-only session for breastfeeding, probably also two hours. There is also a tour of the hospital, probably 30 mins. Not phoned the 'parent education' team yet to see what is on offer this time.

littleem89 · 06/02/2017 13:27

With the NHS I get 2 two hour sessions - one on labour and the other on breastfeeding. Didn't seem very much at all!

savagehk · 06/02/2017 13:34

I wonder if the Sure Start centres might be better set up for advice on handling newborns. Not immediately clear but looking at one near me there are 'parenting classes' but suspect they're for older kids. Finding information on childrens' centre offerings is like looking for a needle in a haystack IMO. (Although if they are on offer likely to be done by health visitors, and IMO some health visitors offer downright shocking and outdated advice. I'm quite glad ours were so busy that they practically ignored us entirely clearly having decided we were low risk. Should be OK with newborn handling though.)

PeachIcedT · 06/02/2017 13:59

I suppose I should be grateful for what classes I'm given! Makes sense it's about the birth - I guess I also know little about that. But interesting how the sessions seem to vary so much. Think I may be able to book on separately to breastfeeding advice from what I read.

coxsorangepippin · 06/02/2017 16:04

We went to the John Lewis nursery advice service today - it was surprisingly great! Narrowed it down to two prams, and chose a car seat Grin

Anyone else got/interested in either the icandy strawberry or the bugaboo bee?

Have also booked in for nct classes plus their short 'early days' postnatal course which I'm looking forward to!

stationaryace · 06/02/2017 17:32

I got my maternity swimsuit from Asda as I wanted a one piece that wasn't a halterneck - I take the toddler swimming and don't fancy her learning how to untie my top in the pool Hmm It's actually pretty good and so much roomier than squeezing into my normal one.

beanandturnip · 06/02/2017 17:44

Hi 👋🏼
I am new here. So wanted to say hello. Quick introduction, I am married, 28 years old, pregnant with baby number 3. Have a ds who is 6 (7 in August) and a dd who is 3 (4 in march). Planning a homebirth. Bought the pram but that is it.
Pregnancy seems to be going ok, but I've been signed off work with pneumonia ... getting cabin fever and needed to talk to people. So here I am wittering on to you 😊
So hello 😀🤰🏼👶🏼 P.s. Due 25th May by NHS dates x

savagehk · 06/02/2017 17:57

Hi bean - first home birth?

ClaireSunflower · 06/02/2017 18:18

wish I totally agree on the bump looking bigger in maternity clothes. I don't have a huge bump, although you can tell I'm pregnant, but in my work maternity dresses it looks massive and loads of people have commented!

Sonnet18 · 06/02/2017 18:33

Hello to new people! Been super busy the past few days and haven't really been on and I've a ton to catch up on! Think everyone has now had their 24/25 week appointments- hope they all went well! A quick skim through has told me we have some gps on the forum- shouldn't have told me that ladies as I am a massive hypochondriac and will be plaguing you with daft questions- please ignore me if I do!

Rustler74 · 06/02/2017 18:46

Hello Bean! Glad to have another more experienced mum on board as well.
I'm very interested in all your pram stories! iCandy Strawberry is an option for us as well as the Uppababy Vista as their carrycots and frames looked of the best quality to me. I may just wait until April when hopefully the Uppababy 2017 comes out. OH feels that second hand is just not right for him, but I don't want to be a cheapskate either and compromise on quality.
Oyster2 has now been investigated properly and is not really approved due to the carrycot being really low. Even the adapters to make it higher would only make 7cm difference, so I don't feel right about it.
Lots of things happened today workwise but I have to let them sink in before I can write down on them.
Time for pregnancy club now!

beanandturnip · 06/02/2017 18:57

savagehk - planned a hb for my second, but was induced with her due to premature rupture of membranes and I was showing signs of infection. So this will be my first hb and I am incredibly excited by it. Labour is my favourite part of the baby making journey.

Rustler how many littles do you have? We think 3 is our number. We're expecting another boy and then that's us complete. Although part of me thinks there may be room for a fourth. 😬 Husband doesn't think so!

We bought the egg in royal blue for Spud (bump name, tradition in our house... bean ds, turnip dd)

Has anyone had a cervical stitch either in this pregnancy or previous?

savagehk · 06/02/2017 19:07

Good luck :) Considering hb here too (was planning one for first birth but 'overdue' baby meant midwives got jumpy). At least one other mum-to-be planning one too :)

yellowismyfavourite · 06/02/2017 19:12

I feel much bigger in maternity clothes too!
Midwife hasn't mentioned nhs classes although she knows we are booked with nct. Only classes she has talked about was nct and another local midwife who runs them as a business. Maybe the nhs don't do them here??? I have 28w appointment on Thursday maybe it will come up then.
Welcome bean sorry to hear you have not been well.
cinnamon that makes me just under 100 days... wow that's exciting and scary all at once!

mrspage1985 · 06/02/2017 19:26

Bean and teaspoon and any other egg purchasers! What car seats have u gone for?
We have bought the carrycot as well so not sure the lie flat car seats are worth the extra expense? Add that to the fact the kiddy lunar one doesn't seem to be compatible/ safety tested to my car. So we either go for the cybex lie flat or maxi cosi pebble? X

mrspage1985 · 06/02/2017 19:26

Ps midwife today for 24 week check up - all good and lovely heartbeat heard!

teainbed · 06/02/2017 19:27

Evening! Welcome to anyone new.

I wrote a massive post earlier. It's obviously vanished!

I met a few friends this weekend and had a go of some of their prams. The Vista is an absolute tank, far too heavy for me. And Bugaboo was very complicated! Still thinking Babyjoggers.

I have antenatal clinic this week and a growth scan, this baby is keeping me busy. It's an utterly mad kicker too, you'd have thought I'd be used to it by now but I swear this previous three never battered me as much!

I hope the antenatal classes are good. I went to NHS ones first time round and they were pretty good but they seem so variable across the country.

teainbed · 06/02/2017 19:29

I have a swimsuit but not used it yet. Really don't think I'm going to manage much exercise this pregnancy. Pelvis, hips and back aren't great and I've only probably got 7-10 weeks to go. I love being able to get back to exercise after actually having the baby so if I don't manage anything more I'm not going to get upset over it.

Welcome to all the newbies! 👋🏻

MrsPage I saw an article on the Bounty app today about lie flat car seats.

The ones to check out apparently are...

  1. Brittany Baby Safe Sleeper (£199)
  2. Jane Matrix Light 2 (£260)
  3. Cybex Cloud Q (£240)
  4. Be Safe iZi Sleep (190)
  5. Kiddy Evoluna i-size (£360)

On the topic of Antenatal Classes, I've just checked my notes and we have 3 'information' sessions. Birth preparation, Breast Feeding and Baby Basics
